Extinct Disney Parks and Attractions tournament round 1: Group C1
Reminder, you don't have had to experience any of the attractions/experiences to vote! Just read in the info and/or watch the vid, then vote for which you wish you would have experienced more/which sounds cooler!
Videos and propaganda/info dumping under cut
IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth: Epcot (1999-2019)
Propaganda:
Oh boy, here we gooooo. I could go on for hours about this show. It was one of the most unique nighttime shows Disney had, it was so unique to Epcot and didn't have any songs from disney films, which is what the park was suppose to be! Its all original and is so uniting and powerful. The soundtrack is absolutely gorgeous and fully original and gives me goosebumps everytime. Nothing can compare to how powerful it is. And yes, the middle section was a bit slow, especially if you couldnt see the globe well, but I think they should have just updated that part and kept the rest instead of forcing IP into Epcot like the replacement shows. This show was all about nations uniting and every culture being beautiful. From the torches that 'blow out', to all the fire in the middle, to the iconic globe opening with one united torch, to the different countries lighting up, to the jaw dropping finale of huge canon like fireworks coming out of each country area to finish with the brightest finale you will ever see, to the iconic song afterwards (from the Millennium Celebration Tapestry of Nations Parade!). And then Spaceship earth all lite up in purple with the song from Tapestry of Nations parade playing as you exit the park, nothing will beat the magic of that, and I cry every time I remember I will never experience that again. I kid you not, half the reason I did the DCP when I did, was so that I could see the last showing of this! Ill have to find video of me afterwards later xD This was my absolute fav show as a kid and remains so to this day. IN THIS ESSAY I WILL

Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular: Hollywood Studios (2016-2020)
Propaganda:
Okay so I actually really loved it! It is so much better than the simple animation projection show with like 2 fireworks they have going on now. The darth vader part where all the lights go out and you just hear the breathing, so chilling! Also, if you timed it right, going on Slinky Dog right as this was starting was the coolest thing ever. Being in the air while the iconic songs blasts everywhere with sparkle of fireworks, is something ill always remember. I think i have video of that too, ill have to find later

Disney Magic Bands: It’s like magic!
youtube
New technological innovations have enhanced theme parks and resorts with digital experiences beginning in 2022 at Walt Disney World Resort. Using technology and offering services that resemble a unified and connected metaverse experience. For instance, their MagicBand is a bracelet that tracks guests and contains all their data, including tickets, keys, payments, and photo pass, to allow guests to move through their parks effortlessly.
The company unveiled two new technological achievements carrying its theme park and resort guest/visitors' imagination deep into the future- the MagicBand+, a wearable wrist-worn device. In addition, it has a voice assistant named "Hey, Disney!" In addition, Disney has created its own custom voice assistant using Alexa technology for supported Amazon Echo devices.
This voice assistant will work alongside Alexa to respond to vocal prompts, bringing Disney characters and stories to life in magical new ways to make guest stays more convenient, engaging, and enjoyable. “Hey, Disney!” will make the services Alexa users know and love weather forecasts, timers, alarms, etc. - magical with the assistance of popular characters such as Mickey Mouse, Olaf, C-3PO, and many more.
A revolutionary device that will make the guest experience more convenient and hands-free, along with park and guest room entry, retail and dining Disney PhotoPass, and so much more.
Once a guest enters a theme park, MagicBand+ will come alive at various times, along with color-changing lights, haptic vibrations, and gesture recognition, intensifying the environment’s immersive storytelling. The wearable device allows guests to engage with their favorite Disney moments in new ways and discover new interactive experiences, such as
Play like a bounty hunter in a galaxy far, far away and find virtual bounties throughout Black Spire Outpost in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Interact with the “Disney Fab 50 Character Collection,” the golden sculptures spread throughout the Walt Disney World theme parks.
Experience nighttime spectaculars in a new way as they see their bands light up and complement the magic in the skies, including the new “Harmonious” at EPCOT and “Disney Enchantment” at Magic Kingdom Park.
The MagicBands, tech-studded wristbands, are available to every visitor to the Magic Kingdom. They even feature a long-range radio that can transmit more than 40 feet in every direction—bringing True Disney fans closer to the Metaverse and taking magic, imagination, and fun to another new level.

Thursday Thoughts: EPCOT’s Harmonious - Different, Connected, and Beautiful
Even though I live and work at Disney World, I’m always behind the curve on seeing new attractions and shows here. What can I say? I don’t love crowds, and new things always have crowds! At the time of writing, I still haven’t spent an evening at the Magic Kingdom since they started the new nighttime spectacular, Disney Enchantment. But the other night, I went to EPCOT to see their new spectacular – Harmonious.
I hadn’t watched any live streams on YouTube; fireworks never look the same on camera, beautiful as they are. And no one had really “spoiled” any major details for me, not that I care about spoilers. What I knew going into this show is that it had Disney songs in it, and that everyone on Facebook and Twitter seemed to HATE it. While a few of my most die-hard Disney-loving friends said they liked it, most people I knew wanted IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth to come back. An acquaintance of mine even said that Harmonious “doesn’t feel like EPCOT – it’s missing the whole idea of the world coming together as one!”
Now, IllumiNations has been my favorite Disney nighttime spectacular since the first time I saw it. It’s not that I don’t like the other shows – IllumiNations just stole my heart first, and it kept it! The soundtrack still gives me chills; even though that show’s been gone for over two years, its inspirational message of forward progress lives on in my soul.
Nevertheless, I went to EPCOT that night with an open mind. I was in a bad mood for no particular reason, and I was actively seeking a dose of Disney magic to pick me back up. So I found a spot on World Showcase Lagoon about an hour before showtime, and I waited.
Did Harmonious pick me up? Yes, absolutely. And even better than that – it surprised me! Because while I can see why someone might THINK that this show “doesn’t feel like EPCOT,” for me, it felt more like EPCOT – more like the true potential of EPCOT – than any EPCOT experience has ever made me feel.
Harmonious begins with the opening chords of multiple Disney movies. “Circle of Life” from The Lion King is the most obvious, but I also caught threads of “Vuelie” from Frozen and “Tulou Tagaloa” from Moana. I realized that the show was making several statements right off the bat. Harmonious is about music, and what specific songs mean to us. For example, these three songs are songs that tell you, because of their placement in Disney movies, “This is the start of the show!”
These three songs also told me that Harmonious is about the world – how the whole world hears these songs and the stories they’re from, not just how English-speaking viewers in the United States hears them. I love “Tulou Tagaloa,” but I couldn’t help but think of how my ex-boyfriend always skipped that song, and every other non-English song, when we listened to the Moana soundtrack. He thought it was “boring.”
“We find each other in song,” goes the narration. And then Harmonious weaves a world of water, light, pretty colors, music – and language.
Harmonious takes us on a journey around the world, through the Disney movies set in different parts of the world – Mulan for China, Coco for Mexico, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame for France, to name just a few. And every song in Harmonious is a mash-up of the English version and the language of the part of the world the story is set in. Sometimes it’s a duet of two singers using different languages, and other times the non-English lyrics preside without translation. From what I remember, the only songs which are completely in English are “Touch the Sky” from Brave and “Dig A Little Deeper” from The Princess and the Frog. This is not a show which focuses on ensuring the English-speakers in the audience understand. It trusts you to understand anyway.
Through this multilingual musical world tour, I felt that Harmonious was saying, “These songs mean something to people all across the world, and people use different languages all across the world. Listen and understand.”
Maybe that isn’t the same thing as “the world coming together as one” message some people expected from EPCOT. IllumiNations showed images from different cultures, sure, but it was all in English, and there were no clear distinctions between different groups. The message presented by IllumiNations is that all of humanity is one group making clear forward progress through time, from cave paintings to rocket ships.
Harmonious does not allow you to so simply think that we are all the same group of people. We don’t even all use the same lyrics for Disney songs! But Harmonious also presents these songs and stories as a way to connect different groups of people across the world – we love them differently, sure, but we all love them.
It’s a more complex message, a message that celebrates diversity over simple unity. And it only gets better from there, because the final song in Harmonious is “Someday.”
What is “Someday,” you ask? It’s a song from The Hunchback of Notre Dame – deleted from the film, but restored for the stage musical. It’s sung by Esmeralda and Phoebus, late in the show, as they acknowledge that their quest for love and peace might fail. And it’s a really fricking gutsy choice of a song to sing at EPCOT.
Here are the lyrics:
“Someday, when we are wiser, when the world’s older, when we have learned… I pray, someday, we may yet live to live and let live. Someday, life will be fairer, need will be rarer, and greed will not pay. God speed this bright millennium on its way, and let it come someday – one day, one day – someday soon!”
This is not a “the whole world has come together” song. This is a “the whole world has NOT YET come together” song. This is not the triumphant “We Go On” that closed out IllumiNations, that celebration of how far we’ve come. “Someday” is a song that acknowledges just how far we have to go.
Harmonious still ends with a note of hope – “Set the song inside you soaring,” says the narration, “and the whole world will hear it!” Through music, we can find that “someday” when we are wiser and can live and let live. Because the point isn’t for the whole world to “come together as one” – the point is for us to recognize that we are not one, and that that is a beautiful thing. We are many – we are both different and connected – and that that is beautiful. And isn’t that what EPCOT’s World Showcase really ought to be about?

ahhh i realize i haven’t made a trip update on here at all. i have been with twitter as much as i can but yeah i’ve been neglecting my tumble
so everything is going great and we’re having such an incredible time.. and i think i’m even more in love than i was before, and i didn’t think that was possible. it’s been a perfect anniversary trip!
but.....of course there was a little drama. so if you want the tea. it’s under the cut lol:
soooooo a group of some super obnoxious dudebros recently moved into the suite next to ours and they were like making hella noise at like 3:30 am while we we sleeping. all of them clearly drunk as fuck.
two of them got into some kinda scuffle too cause i heard one threaten to pound the other's ass into dust.....either that or there was some super kinky shit going on in there and i totally misread the situation.
either way i thought about calling front desk to make a noise complaint (WHICH IS SO SOMETHING MY MOTHER WOULD DO OMG IM ALWAYS SO THROWN BY THOSE MOMENTS WHERE I REALIZE IN SOME ASPECTS IVE LITERALLY BECOME MY MOTHER)
buuut Liam and I decided to get back at them by making our own noise. i mean we haven't been fucking that much (well for us anyways lol) cause we've been so tired from all the stuff we've been doing. so when we're in bed we're actually sleeping for once lol
so to get back at those douchenozzles next door we protest boned.....loudly. we boned on principle but once we get into it..............well let's just say the principle of the matter was quickly forgotten but now in a post-orgasmic haze im not hearing anything from that side of the wall at all. it's silent. and im like holy shit.........we just gave those guys a free show D:
so now im about to make that noise complaint i shoulda made in the beginning (LIKE CECILIA WOULDA DONE). before they get the chance to make a noise complaint about us.
IN MY QUEST FOR REVENGE, I ENDED UP PLAYING MYSELF. (liam don't care he's gone back to sleep- laid and happy...........im the one out here involved in a probably-mostly-in-my-head-hotel melodrama.)
#i literally just posted this saga on twitter and now im about to go back to sleep#in other news we're doing our last Disney park today!!! we did all four of their parks including one of the waterparks#but we begged out of early cause WHEW CHILE THE GLOBAL WARMING INDUCED FLORIDA SUMMER HEAT.#my boy was lobster BURNT that day. despite me coating him in spf. i felt so bad for him.#but yeah we decided to end with Magic Kingdom before moving onto the Universal parks.#we're gonna go later in the evening when its cooler cause we mostly wanna ride just a few rides there#(classics like Space and Splash mountain and the Snow White Mine ride that everyone is raving about)#and we wanna watch their fireworks display as well! all of the Disney nighttime spectaculars have been awesome.#Epcot's Illuminations has been my fave thus far but yeah all are aces. so it should be another really amazing day!#again if you want more frequent updates you can always add me on twitter. i'll accept your request!#alright love you guys!! i'll be back with more updates when i can#crazy ramblings of a troubled mind...

whats ur tea about the 50th anniversary? 👀
So like ok. This is the 50th anniversary of the magic kingdom. The hub of Walt Disney world. The “most magical place on earth.” You’d think they’d spend a while working on their celebration right?
Wrong. AFAIK, everything was rushed (except maybe the merch? Harder to tell w that). You ever heard of kite tails? The absolutely hilarious travesty of a show in animal kingdom? That shit is supposed to be part of the celebration for the 50th. The show where they strap kites to jet skis on a little lake and then the kites crash because no one got enough training and the kites are poorly designed. The youtuber Disney Dan has a video lovingly christening it as “kite fails.” I saw it once. Yes the kites were charming. No, that did not make it better when the kite’s face did not properly inflate.
They also barely have shit for the 50th besides merch, kite tails, food, and the new fireworks show, and THAT I have real tea on.
So, working fireworks, we got to work with and talk to the folks who helped design the shows and who help execute them. It was actually p cool esp to see the tech they use, and to learn how a fireworks show is made. The thing with Disney fireworks shows is that they know usually they’re going to last for years, so they have to do a good job. They spend a long time, usually years, planning how they’re going to execute it. Take, for example, Epcot’s latest nighttime spectacular, Harmonious. It is a beautiful display of music in languages from around the world, using water, fireworks, projections, and screens. It took years upon years to plan and execute this show, and the result is stunning. It gives me chills. It is a perfect encapsulation of Epcot’s spirit of worldwide unity while making use of songs from across disney’s movies. I am not a fan of fireworks shows, but I am in love with harmonious.
Enchantment, magic kingdom’s 50th fireworks spectacular, does not illicit those emotions, because it too was a rush job. I was told by one of the firework techs themselves that they only worked on it for a few months. It’s a miracle they got it finished in time, given what’s involved in making a show: for starters, they have to plan the story. Plan the beats. Plan the music. And they have to plan the fireworks and time them to said music, usually by timing exactly how long it takes a shell to explode with a stopwatch. Then they also have to animate the projections shown on the castle and Main Street. They have to coordinate the lights in the trees. They have to program the lasers which, during my time there, only worked about half the time. They have to plan the narration, and plan for Tinker Bell’s flight over the park. You can tell, with MK’s previous beloved fireworks show Happily Ever After, it got the time and dedication it needed to become a truly incredible show. I worked the last few months of HEA and there were still times it made me tear up (the Go The Distance part makes me cry thinking about it) and I was always in awe of Tink flying over the audience even tho I saw her do it like 200 times. Enchantment did not get the dedication and time HEA got, and it shows. The shells don’t always match right with the music. The projections on Main Street don’t start for like 5 minutes? As stated before, the lasers barely work. The projections on the castle are rudimentary compared to HEA’s and suffer from a lot of overspill because they’re not aligned quite right. And the story doesn’t have the same soaring beats as HEA did. I like Angela Bassett’s narration, and the Into the Unknown segment feels like it was pulled from a better fireworks show (which makes me think it was the part they worked on first), and Tink still flies, but the show lacks the creativity and heart that HEA had. People don’t cry watching Enchantment.
The worst thing is, the fireworks show makes ABSOLUTELY NO MENTION OF THE PARK ITS SUPPOSED TO BE CELEBRATING. It is just a collection of clips from Disney movies. This is not a 50th anniversary fireworks spectacular. If it had come before HEA, I’m sure people would have enjoyed it. It would make for an ok show like 10 years ago. But people were expecting a magic kingdom fireworks show, and they got a fireworks show entirely about Disney movies, most of which have absolutely no presence in the park. It makes no sense. It feels out of place.
Also cast members didn’t get shit for working the 50th I got a few limited edition art prints, a map, a pair of ears, and a cupcake. Couldn’t have at least given me a lunch box? Something I can use?
Jeepers sorry this one got long too but I worked before during and after October 1st 2021 (the 50th) and I worked very closely with the fireworks crew. Also don’t take this to mean I don’t like the people who worked on it they’re wonderful, creative folks who had to work with what they had and appreciated what we front line cast members did. Also they work with fucking explosives so like yeah my job was risky but theirs was even more so so I respect them for being willing to do that.
Thanks for the ask! Again sorry this got long lmao
