(spoilers for ep. 5 [Double Death Doggy Style] of NSBU)
Maybe this is just a plot hole, but knowing Brennan, he's got something up his sleeve.
Barsimmeon Higgs says that if one of the action heroes dies, the rest of them are stuck in NSBU because they came in together. However, his buddy died in the movie, and Barsimmeon was still able to come back to the real world.
My prediction is that Barsimmeon is overall well-meaning but also kind of full of shit.
