Five years experience with the specific lab equipment for each advertised job. "Just go teach", you need a teaching degree. Science communication? No one will take you unless you have a journalism degree. "What if you just did other sciences, you did a science degree". Water quality? Chemical testing? Environmental science? You need to have studied that exact topic as a major to get those jobs. "Surely the maths you learnt in physics can go towards getting a job as a data scientist or something?" Yeah so, they've started a new degree all for the management and manipulation of data.
They said getting a degree will help us get a job but to get one is so difficult I'm beginning to think something has changed in the job market environment and it no longer supports us.
