Happenings

Sabdon disarmed the pit trap in the entrway room to the undercity after Pixie almost triggered it.

The party saw a light coming from the cave to the east. Tredegar tried to sneak up but failed. He found cultists of Ophidious taking a mummified saint from the cave. There was a snake-headed cleric, a temple guard, and 2 scholars. Tredegar tried to lie and say he was part of the cult. They were not amused but seemed indifferent, they were trying to take the saint back to their temple in the underground city Umber. They heard a new cult had moved in and said they'd consider hiring the party if they could find out more about the cult.

The party decided not to press their luck and headed east where they encountered a pack of hungry Hyenas. A thrown flask of burning oil and some quick swipes from the fighters downed 2 and sent the rest running.

Farther in they found some hallways with niches carved into them. A few of those niches contained demon idols, suspended in liquid. Tredegar tried to lasso one of them. He was successful but the acid splashed out and he succumbed to the flesh eating burns.

The remaining members ended their delve there and buried his body unceremoniously in the sand on the surface.

uncle yuuri

yuuri is 16 and trying to hide the swath of acne across his forehead when he hears soft sniffles echoing outside the locker room

yuuri thought he was the only one that cried in the bathroom at the ice castle.

his first instinct is to wait awkwardly in the locker room until they go away but he’s already 10 minutes late so he tries to sneak out the door and avoid awkward eye contact

but then he sees yuuko slumped against the wall with her head between her knees.

“yuu-chan?” he calls, stopping in his tracks.

yuuko looks up with red-rimmed eyes. “oh, hi yuuri-kun,” she sniffles.

it’s not the first time yuuko and takeshi have had a fight.

yuuri slides down the wall next to yuuko. minako-sensei can wait. “what’s wrong?” he asks.

yuuko mumbles something into her knees that yuuri doesn’t catch.

“what was that?”

“i think i’m pregnant,” yuuko says, voice meeker than yuuri thinks he’s ever heard it.

yuuri soul ascends from the material plane. it’s the first time he has an out of body experience that’s not accompanied by a panic attack.

what the fuck.

“what the fuck.”

yuuko goes back to crying.

“um!” yuuri begins panicking, his natural response to any unfamiliar situation. “have you um. taken a test?”

yuuri’s knowledge of pregnancy comes entirely from bad j-dramas having had no reason to be familiar with it firsthand. but he’s pretty sure a test in the first step.

“no,” yuuko sniffles.

the next thing he knows, he and yuuko are on the train to itoshima, yuuko’s holds yuuri’s hand on her knee with a white-knuckled grasp. hasetsu’s pharmacy is out of the question. the town is so small that if yuuri bought a pregnancy test it would reach yu-topia katsuki before yuuri did, and hiroko and toshiya would be waiting at the kotatsu with concerned eyes.

yuuko confirms her pregnancy in a kfc bathroom, while yuuri anxiously clutches a bucket of fried chicken outside.

she tearfully rushes into his arms a handful of minutes later.

“um, so?”

yuuko nods tearfully.

every thought yuuri’s ever had flees his mind. “um! do you want some chicken?” he thrusts it towards her.

yuuko looks between yuuri and the chicken for a brief moment. then she throws up in the bucket.

yuuko is silent on the ride back to hasetsu. she keeps yuuri’s hand in a death grip as yuuri feels another out of body experience coming on. yuuko is the oldest of all of them at eighteen, only two years older than yuuri. yuuri is a baby. he’s too young to be an uncle.

the two of them shuffle into yu-topia katuski after sundown. mari pauses in sweeping the entryway to wap yuuri with the broom.

“Ma, yuuri’s home!”

hiroko rushes into the entrway, starting to fuss over her baby boy. “where have you been? minako-senpai told us you didn’t show up...”

She trails off when her eyes land on Yuuko, eyes red-rimmed and arms wrapped around herself.

“Ah,” Hiroko hums. She gently pats Yuuri’s cheek. “Have you eaten?”

Yuuko grimaces, nose pinching. Her hand makes an aborted move towards her stomach before she clenches her fist.

“Just some rice, and miso soup,” Yuuri answers.

After a light dinner, Yuuri rolls out a tatami mat on his floor and lets Yuuko take the bed. Vicchan hops into Yuuko’s lap and licks the dried tears off her face. Yuuko giggles, the first laugh Yuuri’s heard from her all day.

Normally, Vicchan would curl into a ball on Yuuri’s chest and go to sleep. But he must know something is up, because tonigh he curls at Yuuko’s side and lets her nuzzle into his fur and rub his belly.

Yuuri needs to give Vicchan extra treats tomorrow.

Suddenly, Yuuko starts crying again, muffled by Vicchan’s fur.

“What is it, Yuu-chan?”

Yuuko tries to speak as Vicchan dutifully licks up her tears. “I won’t be able to skate.”

Oh god. She’s doing this? She’s doing this.

“You can probably skate. Just no jumps.” Yuuri’s mouth moves but he doesn’t hear the words come out. His brain has been replaced by white noise.

Yuuko giggles. “I won’t be able to tie my skates.”

“I’ll tie them for you.”

“Yeah?” Yuuko’s voice sounds suspiciously watery.

“Yeah,” Yuuri promises.

It’s silent for a few minutes before Yuuko speaks up. “You’ll have to convince Takeshi.”

“I’ll fight him.”

Yuuko laughs so hard her belly hurts.
