why are y’all so obsessed with terry silver😩 genuinely wondering
There's a few ways to answer this.
1. You do not choose the blorbo. The blorbo chooses you.
2. Tig hot.
3. Bad guys are fun.
4. I genuinely find his character interesting. He started as a way over the top 80's villian, and that was fun in its own way. But there's his loyalty to Kreese to play with. His ride or die mentality. His obsessive nature.
He was a sweet kid who got caught in a homoerotic, mutually dependent male friendship during his formative years, against the back drop of a terrible war.
He's a millionaire who takes his meetings in a bath tub and drinks out of a tea cup, and sends his best friend to Tahiti while coming up with an overly convoluted plan to enact revenge on an 18 year old.
He becomes arguably obsessed with this 18 year old. Visibly enjoying causing him pain, in canon. He stalks him like the big bad wolf. He makes it his mission to shape Daniel into exactly what he wants.
We joke a lot about how Terry karate bdsm'd Daniel, but like. What we see there? That's a text book unhealthy Dom/sub dynamic. And they just did that! Like the absolute mad lads they were.
And now we've got Tig back, playing him with so much more nuance and humanity than before. They're delving into his and Kreese's fucked up psychology. They gave usa bastard, gave him a redemption arc, and then bastardized him again. And we get to watch the slow downfall of this intensely strange man.
The things he does and the reasoning behind them are so interesting to me, there's just so much to play with there if you choose to.
Tkk3 and it's production was a fascinating, blessed mess. And because of it, and the very particular circumstances behind CK, we get this character to take apart like a watch to see what makes him tick.
And we get to watch Tig take this on as an actor, which I don't think some people recognize how difficult that might have been? He admitted that JGA told him to go balls to the wall bonkers with this character in the movie and now he's supposed to do the exact opposite and give him humanity and depth and reasoning? And he does?? While still maintaining that edge of derangement just waiting to pop out.
That "no, Captain," scene was so good.
He's a stinky bastard karate toxic waste man (affectionate) and I want to study him like a bug.
Getting into his various ships is a whole 'other thing, because each of them have so many layers behind the specific flavor of messed up that they are.
So, I guess, like tldr; I enjoy the spice. Lol.
A character doesn't have to be good to be good.
