Encanto/Elemental AU

Decided to reboot the Elemental AU a bit.

Thanks to @ghostbrother30 for some ideas!

The Madrigals were known for being a respected earth family, having no mix-ups with other elements, even the ones that mix well with earth people.

One day, an earth woman named Alma met a fellow earth man named Pedro. The two fell in love, married, and had triplets who they named Julieta, Pepa and Bruno. Like their parents, they're all three earth-elements.

But unfortunately, the day the triplets were born, Alma and Pedro had to flee their hometown that bandits invaded. Tragically, Pedro died while trying to buy his wife time to escape with the triplets...

Alma was absolutely devastated, but she tried to be strong for her three babies.

Having nothing left in her village, Alma moved to Element City, starting a new life and raising her triplets there.

Years passed, and the triplets grew up. Alma pressured them to get well-payed and respected jobs. In the end, Julieta became a baker, Pepa became a weather scientist, and Bruno became a lawyer (though against his will, thanks Alma's pressure).

Julieta and Pepa eventually met Agustín and Félix, both fellow earth-elements. Alma immediately approved of Félix, finding him the perfect partner for Pepa. She didn't approve of Agustín though, not being able to stand his clumsiness. But Julieta managed to convince her mother that he was right for her. Alma eventually approved, but on the condition that they would give her grandchildren.

Bruno however, wasn't interested in relationships or start his own family. Alma tried to pressure him and set him up with some of her friends' daughters, but that didn't work out. Alma wasn't happy, but she let it go once Julieta and Pepa started their own families.

Having enough of his mother pressuring him and comparing him to his "successful" sisters, Bruno decided to leave the family, wanting to have his future in his own hands.

Isabela, Dolores, Luisa and Camilo were born, and were all earth babies, as the family expected.

But while Pepa's pregnancy with Camilo went smoothly, Julieta's third and last pregnancy was extremely painful. Throughout those 9 months the baby grew, Julieta felt like her insides were on fire, burning without an end.

Finally, after 9 months of pain, Julieta was glad when it was time to give birth. Unfortunately, the birth was even more painful and excruciating, so much so that Julieta almost died...

The family was on edge, hoping that Julieta would make it.

Thank goodness, Julieta survived, and the family sighed in relief. Now, they could finally focus on the baby.

But what they didn't expect was that the baby in question, who Agustín named Mirabel, would be the cause of Julieta's pain.

Mirabel was born a fire element…

The family was extremely shocked when they first saw the baby, almost not believing it.

Most of their reactions after the shock wore off weren't good tho. Alma, Pepa, Isabela and Dolores were weirded out and despised the baby, thinking they now had to take care of this burden who would cause pain to the family whenever they touch even slightly, also blaming Mira for Julieta almost dying. Luisa was just happy to have a little sister despite her element being different. Julieta and Agustín tried to focus and be happy to have a new baby, but they couldn't even hold Mira without being burned...

Unfortunately, being a fire-element in an all-earth family wouldn't be easy...

As she grew up, Mira was severely excluded by the family on a daily basis. At breakfast, lunch and dinner, Mira had to sit somewhere far away while the rest of the family ate and talked about their day at the table.

Pepa, Isabela, Dolores, and later on Camilo would snap at her to get away from them, giving her despising and angry looks. Pepa would also drag Camilo away from Mirabel whenever she thought he stood too close to the fire child. And Alma would look at her with utter distain and disappointment.

On birthdays or other holidays, Mira was kept away from the family and the guests, having to sit in her room while everyone else had fun. She never got her own birthday party because of this, only getting a "happy birthday" from Luisa and her parents and some gifts from them.

Mira was never included in pictures, especially family pictures. Whenever the family went out to eat to celebrate something or just because, Mira was left at home, Alma or Pepa not wanting to pay for an extra table just to have that burden who'd hurt the family with them. And a lot more...

It didn't help that Mira also got bullied by her classmates for being the only fire element in her class...

Despite all of that, 8 year old Mira tried to look on the bright side, and saw life in a positive light. But that was hard when her peers and her very own family avoided and despised her...

DOAI Possum Ramble 2 Electric Boogaloo: The Office

So basically if you already got what’s to know about the Modern Prometheus AU, then you most likely know about the whole “Lankmann feeling the eyes of the writers of this AU”/“If Pastra isn’t writing this story, then who is?” thing. Well, as shown in the last coupla reblogs of this thread, one idea is that we (the DOAI tumblr fandom) are basically all doing our fandom craziness in some kinda big office setting where we’re able to peer into the AUs we make via eyes, those eyes appearing somewhere in the world when we’re observing.

So basically what’s to know is that the inside of the building itself doesnt really follow the rules of reality all too much, it’s just doing it’s own thing to go along with our own craziness. Each member of DOAIblr has their own hallway of sorts, representing ourselves as creators. Some people’ve already started designing their own hallways!! Each hallway has doors (number of doors varying per person) leading towards different office spaces (which will be talked about a bit more later) representing the AUs we’ve created. If an AU has multiple creators, the door will manifest in several hallways.

The Sitcom AU door is pretty much a wildcard and is basically in everyone’s hallway, as that doesn’t really have a “creator” and is a big hodgepodge of everyone’s ideas and stuff (@purplechaosguardian sparked the original idea for it but being completely honest this au doesnt truly “belong” to one or a few people, it’s kind of a big group effort). It might as well be its own hallway with how absolutely huge it is.

I like to imagine that if an AU isn’t revealed to the public just yet (i.e @blazefirefox ‘s swap au as seen in her hallway), then to anyone who isn’t a creator the door kinda looks like what a door in Encanto looks like before a Madrigal kid gets their gift, if you’ve seen that movie. To a non-creator, it’s basically a regular door radiating with creative energy, if you listen closely you can hear small barely intelligible whispers of lore and ideas. Until it’s revealed to the public, only the creator(s) can see what the door really looks like, and only the creator(s) can get into it.

Getting into the offices themselves, the insides are basically amalgamations of different elements of the AUs themselves, all of them having different sheets inside for character refs and character sheets and lore and etc etc. For some decor examples, the inside of the Williams Foundation AU office would most likely be bathed in green and have various gadgets and etc for sciencey stuff™️. The Ragstra’s Show AU office would most likely resemble the backstage of a theater, with some mannequins/dolls and thread strung about.

What’s important to note is that each and every office has an Orb™️ in the center, representing the AU itself. The orb in the sitcom au basically takes up half the room with how big it is. (One thing to note: the orb for the Modern Prometheus AU starts to crack once Lankmann realizes the 4th wall/the writers)

The orb also acts as a way to “observe” and peer into the AU, said observing being how the eyes manifest into the world of the AU. Of course, the eyes shouldn’t be visible to the characters of the AU. *casually uses this as an opportunity to show off some of my own wip eye designs* *I plan to do more but this is what I did so far lmao*

These are all based on respective sonas/representative ocs ahehe (Idk what color the Tigera eyes would be but the Ark eyes are supposed to be teal lmao I just pulled it from a wip sketch) (Also purplechaosguardian doesnt have a sona iirc so in my mind theyre just Big Fuckin Purple Eyes heh)

Also this isn’t necessarily worldbuilding important but I think it’s fun to note: A potential scenario in the Modern Prometheus AU where someone accidentally no-clips out of the office and into the AU since the fourth wall is already breaking and someone has to come get them so there’s no more existential crises lmao

I watched Elemental so I can't do a normal art, right? It always has to be an AU (human AU in this case?) buuut it was a really warm movie. As someone who likes the new Disney and Pixar, I had a great time. I'm sure there will be more arts of Ember and Wade when I finish the Encanto requests.

DSMP x Encanto AU

This AU is a mix of DSMP, Encanto, and Fantasy. DSMP for the characters, Encanto for the story, and Fantasy to tie the two together.

While this AU follows the same progression of the events in Encanto, details are reminiscent of Minecraft Fantasy stories, and the interactions happen accordingly to the DSMP characters’ personalities.

I wanted to added the fantasy element because I wanted to keep Philza’s wings and Techno’s pig theme somehow.

Timeline: The Beginning

Kristen was a famous and powerful knight captain who had just taken maternity leave. When the kingdom broke into civil war, she was ordered to return and lead the army.

However, Kristen had just given birth to triplets and refused to leave them. She and Phil ran away to their home village.

A couple months later, soldiers found and raided the village. Kristen and Phil evacuated as many villagers as possible.

Soldiers eventually caught up with them. Kristen valiantly fought them off, but then a soldier aimed at Phil, who was carrying their children.

Kristen took the hit for them. She died.

Philza cried out in anguish. The combination of these two sparked a miracle to happen. The flame of the candle he held exploded with magic. Mountains rose protectively around Philza and his people, a magic house rose in the center of the encanto, and a pair of giant feathered wings sprouted from his back

Ever since then, the descendants of the Minecraft family were blessed with magical gifts and manifested their animal spirits within.

If its alright to ask. About Tropical God AU (Warning: This may be a lot of questions, I’m so sorry but I couldn’t help it, you don’t need to answer all of it, if you don’t want too.) 1. What happens if MT managed to kill one of the gods, at death. Will MT just straight up kill them or do a Maui taking Te fiti’s heart style that ends up resulting a negative effect in the island and to the god that got killed. 2. Are MT and Purple the only ones in the island or with a group. 3. What’s the scale of Second’s rage towards humans. Like the scale of Ruby from Steven Universe or Ember from Elementals. 4. Is Yellow the moodiest, since his mood effects the weather that makes him Pepa Madrigal from Encanto 5. Does Dark have the chain daggers like Kratos 6. Is it possible that Red can shapeshift to any animal he wishes, like Nimona 7. Can Green sing Siren like 8. Does Chosen have a Trident from Aquaman 9. How does Victim react if one of the gods are in danger or he himself is in danger 10. If there’s a route of God killing, What would be MT’s main target as a starter, whom he considers to be the weakest but unaware it affects the greatest. THATS ALL. also - Love the works and art styles, each AU you made has its own uniqueness in it. I have no doubt that someone out there will make a fan art or animation of it, with credits going to you.

He likes the idea of the potential fame and power he could have if he COULD kill a God, but he knows damn well that if he DID kill a God, he would be hunted down and killed by the other gods. It wouldn't be worth it in The end. He also didn't come to the island with the knowledge that there were Gods on the island. He'd just come to pilfer resources and set up a base camp.

No, MT and Purple are in charge of a nameless crew. It's roughly about 15-20 sticks big.

Second hates the idea of humans. He hates what they do to the environment and he hates that humans think everything belongs to them. He lets a human beg for mercy before he kills them

No, Yellow isn't really a moody person. The weather can change but only if his emotion is strong. If he's pissed, you get a hurricane. If he's depressed, you get a monsoon. He can also make small little clouds of weather and manipulate it as he chooses

No, Dark, despite being a God of a concept, doesn't really have weapons since it's rare for people to show up. It's more so he can make mortals feel certain ways and make them more likely to encite violence to others

No, Red can't shapeshift. He can create animals out of clay and bring them to life.

Maybe... he doesn't sing much since it doesn't take much to hurt the others if he sings too loud

No, like I said, the gods don't really have weapons.

Victim would exert his full power, which he shouldn't do often. He doesn't like forcing peace and forcing people or gods to lose their free will. But he would force stop anyone who is about to kill him or the others

Hypothetically, He'd take out Red first. Red is the smallest, youngest, and doesn't have a power that can change the will or feelings of humans, has control over a force of nature or element, and just isn't really an aggressive God. It'd be easy to kill Red... which is why it was so easy for MT and Purple to take Red back home with them without the others knowing

Hey this has been a thought bouncing round my head. Thought I’d crack it open and ask so;

What are your thoughts on a modern version of TETS and TEDAD (The Embers Dim and Die sorry lmao)

Would that ruin the outline of the story or would it just be a particular challenge on doing more research.

Because say it’s modern and they still have their gifts. Would that change a lot of the story and how it’s supposed to be?

This is a great question! I've actually got a number of different modern AU plots floating around, so I've definitely got some thoughts on how something like that would play out!

Usually in these modern AUs they're still set in the town of the Encanto and the Madrigals still have their powers, everything's just been modernized to fit into a 21st century time period: phones, cars, internet, all that. The Madrigals still use their Gifts in helpful ways, though many of them have jobs or hustles on the side - Julieta volunteers in the nearby hospital, the dads have proper jobs, some of the grandkids have internet followings, etc.

Modern!Mateo, meanwhile, is kind of considered a different entity from canon!Mateo, as his motivations aren't as... "profound" as they are in the stories, though there's still an element of obsession and believing Camilo to be his perfect match. In a present-day setting it wouldn't be nearly so easy as for Mateo to do what he does without being noticed - so he's forced to handle things in a more modern way.

There are officially 4 variations of a modern TEtS/AtEDaD storyline that have been drafted within the discord server, with 4.0 more or less being declared the "official" one. They share a lot of the same story beats so there's a lot of repeated elements. Note that these outlines may contain upsetting contents, please read with caution. I've put the descriptions under a readmore for this reason:

1.0 is more or less the very first TEtS AU to exist so it's not as polished, but the gist is that Mateo is a college student Camilo meets while crashing a college party. After a period of befriending, manipulation, and isolation, Mateo tricks Camilo into traveling with him to a motel in the middle of nowhere. However, Dolores was able to hear him leave, and follows them in her own vehicle to thwart the worst from happening. She is able to rescue him and have Mateo arrested, with them returning home battered but safe.

2.0 also sees Mateo as a college-aged friend, though Mateo's approach this time is much more sinister and violent. He uses party drugs to render Camilo unconscious, and films himself doing inappropriate things while he's incapacitated. This goes on until Camilo finds the recordings, horrified by their contents, leading Mateo to outright abduct Camilo to a derelict house off the highway. This AU is the first in which Tomás is an important player; this time he's the one to spot Mateo in a bar as an alert of the kidnapping is broadcast to his phone, so he's able to follow him and help free Camilo while his family catches up. This is the one time Mateo's actually taken out by one of Pepa's lightning strikes!

3.0 was born from an offhand comparison to a character from Life is Strange, and as such is the first depiction of Mateo being Camilo's high school photography teacher, living on his own in a small apartment in a nearby city. He gains Camilo's trust by being the "cool teacher," letting him skip class and hang out in his room, taking him out to do fun things, and eventually asking him to be his private model. This route also involves the use of drugs, primarily for Mateo to pose Camilo in certain ways, but the "sleeping spells" cause Camilo trouble at home when his parents have him tested and it's discovered he's got drugs in his system. Unfortunately they assume he's been partying and the rift between them only pushes Camilo further towards Mateo. This one doesn't actually have an ending, but it ended off with Camilo again discovering Mateo's been the one drugging him and trying to escape, allowing Dolores to hear him and try to help.

4.0 also sees Mateo as Camilo's teacher, but it harkens back to the first variant where Mateo takes Camilo to a motel after gaining his trust and isolating him from his friends and family. Unfortunately things go terribly wrong for Camilo here, and when he's returned home he's withdrawn, irritable, and even more divided from his family who aren't too happy with him going on a roadtrip without permission. We've played with a few different resolutions to this one, with Camilo finally opening up to a number of candidates, but the first and favorite scenario was having him open up to Agustín in the middle of the night as a parallel to TEtS Chapter 4. Mateo is again arrested and Camilo's able to sleep a little easier at night.

More Encanto/Elemental AU stuff.

Alejandra is a water elemental, and lives with her parents in apartment on the second floor of the building.

Juancho is an air elemental, and lives with his (kinda workaholic) parents on the fifth floor of the apartment building.

Cecilia is an earth elemental, and lives with her single father on the third floor of the apartment building.

But despite living on different floors and each of them being a different element, the three kids grew to be good friends.

Alejandra, Juancho and Cecilia really look up and adore Mirabel. They didn't care she was a fire elemental and that their parents and some Madrigals told them to stay away from her, because she's still their favorite person in the building!

The three kids often followed her around like ducklings, following the pretty flame. :D

Mira was quite surprised that the three kids like and adore her. After being excluded and yelled at to stay away by most of her family, it stunned her quite a bit, but it made her smile.

At school, things changed a bit as well. While she still got bullied a lot, Mira met an earth elemental named Terr, a boy from another class. The two later met a water boy named Curren, and the three quickly became good friends.

Like his mother, Antonio also had many Air-elemental friends!

And Isabela had many fellow Earth friends!

Oh my gosh, colorless au! I can already imagine the stunning visuals! Although I have to say, when it comes to the colorless parts, I don't think they should be all shades of grey like how we typically depict colorless things. Since Alma color trauma stems from standing out amongst the wilderness, the colorless parts should be dull shades of brown and green. I also think this version of Encanto, or at least the colorless parts, should look somewhat overgrown (courtesy of Isabella), with the houses and paths hidden by foliage, because Alma would want to hide the Encanto from invaders. I'm really wondering how the story of Encanto would go with the elements of Coco mixed in, does Mirabel get cursed and go to the land of the dead? would Mirabel's goal be saving the miracle or trying to convince her Abuela to accept color again? Speaking of the miracle, what about the candle? It normally shines a bright yellow, would the candle be different or would Alma simply hide it? So many questions!!! Please at least give me a colorless Casita

I do agree with the being the colors being not out there. Covered in foliage. In the original post, I did want to use neutrals along with muted, and possibly desaturated, in some cases, colors. They don't stand out as much (although I am biased, because gray is my favorite colors, and most of the clothes i tend to wear are on the darker/desaturated side).

I also like the foliage idea! I think even before Isabela got her gift, don't think care for the exterior of the house would be prioritized, as they want it to overgrown.

Also, while it's no enforced, it's heavily 'suggested', that you wear darkened clothes, muted and desaturated. Implied. It's kind of considered taboo (bad luck even) to wear bright, light colors. Clothing dye is very rare, and marks up at a high rate since it isn't made on the regular. How Mirabel gets access to these? Probably Agustín. Ignore the fact that I didn't do the embroidery 💀 colors for the family aren't set in stone, but its mainly to get an idea.

Also, Casita. I really wanted an au where Casita was in a mountain becase houses inside of mountains are so cool. Plus it quite literally blends it. Colors aren't set in stone, i just took the colors from what I remember and timed them down by a ton and removed the flowers and replaced it with overgrown plants. Possibly weeds. They live at the top, and while it's not a long walk, it is always snowing and cold (not because of Pepa though, that's just the magic and natural nature things) so it's not unusual to see the Madrigals coming down the mountain with some kind of covering over them. The inside of Casita is pretty warm though, it's not cold.

Can you tell I suck at drawing houses.

As for the candle, I think it would be different, but probably not by much. And I imagine Alma doesn't just keep it in the window, and if she does, it's not shining as bright. Not because of problems (until later), but just because. Alma kind of wills it to not be too bright.

And Mirabel, going to the land of the dead. Yes. How she gets there. I'm not sure. Right now, the best I can come up with is that she does something with the candle and accidentally ends up there. And Pedro is the only person who she can think of to send her back, so she's basically running around looking for him (while also being mezmorized by the brightness, and lights, and colors of the land of the dead.)

Well, I don't think their dresses would be much different from canon (i don't really see a reason for them to have a different style). Tho Luisa will have some teal elements in her clothes, most likely embroidery or her bracelets as a reference to the fact that she's replacing Julieta.

I imagined Mirabel in the same way, but the sixth option looks stunning. She also will have more embroidery that references to Luisa like weights

Hay Breanna, I keep noticing that when people write/make modern AUs of fantasy stories like The Legend of Zelda that they often take out the non-human races and magic, but I often wonder why that is.

Why do fanfic writers and creators have to take out the fantastical elements that often are the things that make the original story unique?

One YouTube series I quite like when I was younger was the YouTuber Aphmau’s MyStreet series. It was (originally) a lighthearted spin off series based on her main fantasy story Minecraft Diaries seat in a modern day seating, but instead of taking out the witches and werewolves, she kept them in and had them just had them casually existing in the modern setting. And I think that the series all the better because of it keeping the fantasy stuff.

So I would like to hear your thoughts and opinions as to why people often remove the fantasy element from there modern AUs.

There's a few things that might contribute to this.

1) Ease of writing. Making a modern au with multiple races means figuring out society changes, culture, technology, etc with that race in mind. It's a lot easier to drop that and make it a normal modern au, especially if someone only wants to write a short story.

2) Maybe they want to explore what it would be like without magic. How does it change the story, character, and relationships to remove that aspect? If you take away Ganon and spells, etc, what sort of hero is Link (for example).

The Townhouse AU is a Zelda one that I think keeps a lot of the Zelda elements but makes it modern. There might be others.

Magical Realism is probably the genre in that realm, but it might not be something people are as familiar with? Bee and Puppycat is a show that I feel does this well, or Encanto. Why is there magic? Don't question it, there just is.

It could also be that people who do modern aus just...don't think of adding magic; I'm not sure.

Anyway, just my two cents!

I was also thinking alongside the lines of an Umineko AU, where magic is actually real. The era of sorcerers and witches and alchemy and beasts are still generally assigned to being myths. It's still in regards to everything Ushiromiya and Rokkenjima and Beatrice.

I was thinking that magic would still be prevalent in ways similar to the anime Iroduku: A World In Color, or maybe something like Encanto where it runs in family lines and individuals have gifts. Or maybe Kinzo did something, who knows.

But Witches and Sorcerers magic, alchemy, is something long-forgotten and even rumored to have not actually existed - not like they do in stories. Which would further obscure Beatrice's heart in the Meta from Battler - because magic does exist, even if there's no one left that knows if Beatrice's magic is the real deal and killed everyone-

(Speaking of which, I wonder where exactly Meta-Battler's memory cuts off? At the airplane, in the cousins' room in the guesthouse? We never see him question in the vn where they are, I don't think. Does he assume Beatrice just ripped him through space and time to torment him with her games? Not to mention we know Rosa appears and is getting forcefed her family at the end of one of the episodes? Where does she go, after? Where does everyone else go? Are they just lurking in corners, out of sight?)

At the same time though, so much of Umineko is trying to pierce through the veil of magic - not to tear out the guts of the story, but to see the heart hiding underneath. In utilizing literal magic in the plot, even if things like occult black magic and sorcerers and witches and demons are deemed myth or legend, if writing with canon-context, wouldn't it clog the narrative?

Also, it's a rule in mysteries, isn't it? To not actually use supernatural creatures/abilities - including magic? At least, not to hand wave how the crime occurred and pull a solution out of thin air. Though, in a world where traces of magic exist, regardless, Sayo probably wouldn't use it? She wants someone to stop her, Battler to solve the mystery. Her murders - though not anyone else's, arguably - following the rules of a who-dunnit, how-dunnit, why-dunnit mystery.

Rambling here, sorry.

Putting this on anon, because I'm slightly afraid of offending anyone.

Honestly I think it all would really depend on the specifics of the AU and how magic would interact with the existing story to enhance or change it. If it ended up not really changing much, that wouldn't be interesting, but maybe it could. For example, maybe different types of magic are gendered, so 'witches' are generally supposed to have 'feminine' magic (healing, connecting with nature, emotions) and witches that have 'masculine' magic (controlling the elements, summoning powerful demons, etc.) is considered to be heretical or evil. Maybe Rosa encouraged or tolerated Maria's interest in magic at first, but as the abuse continued and Maria grew to be interested in 'unsuitable' magic that intensified the abuse and lead to a cycle. Just an example I'm throwing out - I'm not the best with magic worldbuilding.

Magic being 'real' would probably impact a lot of the metaphors about magic as love, understanding, illusion, etc. though. You'd have to work with that a lot to try to figure out what to do to replace it with in such an AU. In Umineko proper, magic is sort of real but also sort of not, existing in a gray area where you can interpret it either way.

As for using magic in a mystery, Knox doesn't explicitly forbid it. The rules relating to the supernatural are "It is forbidden for supernatural agencies to be employed as a detective technique." and "It is forbidden for unknown drugs or hard to understand scientific devices to be used."

The first relates to the detective, so as long as Battler himself (or Erika) doesn't use magic to suddenly just know things, all is well. As for the second, it doesn't explicitly mention magic, but it mentions similar deus ex machinas. So long as the magic is explained, it should be able to be used as part of a mystery. Van Dine, however, does explicitly forbid supernatural methods of murder/crime. So take that as you will. (Van Dine's rules are very strict compared to Knox.)

It's really about, if you want to make an AU and you think you'll have fun with it, go ahead. I feel like people feel the need to put so much thought into AUs but people can just have AUs, whether they're really meaningful and significant or just fun, which is meaningful and significant in its own way. I have tons of AUs that are just... fun. And that's nice.
