ok I've been thinking about ridoncuous race lately(blame the noco nemma discourse. pls get a hobby @ those ppl 😭😭) and im just thinking about what I'd change. not going into what I'd do for all of td bc atp I'd probably need to just rewrite the show(as tempting as that is I have like. a life i like living) bit rr there's just 2 major things.

firstly Noah's overall writing. hear me out, he was good especially in the one liners department but some things were just. like him being low-key a dick to Owen sometimes. he does have the casual mean-ness to him(samesies) with friends there were moments that were. like what. also nemma. if I could be as radical as possible and push my Sapphic agenda I'd have lesbian emma with a whole arc about it bc it would've been so good. the whole "I mess up every relationship I have with a guy by dating one's I know are shitty or just messing stuff up myself to find and excuse to end them" and "omg I've just been gay the whole time" would've been so good on her character. did my queen dirty. and with that I'd make nowen canon bc out of the Noah ships it's probs the best(not my favorite per say but just the best chemistry and canon wise).

but playing by network rules I'd just give them better chemistry. from memory(idk its been a while) I think they just have them sarcastic banter and then. Noah was all mushy. and emma was into the pathetic boyfailure of it all. which yk pathetic boyfailure is what he is(tho I tend to read him as gay. disaster bisexual works too). but Noah has the whole sarcastic banter with other charactets. like they could've given us more to work with is my point instead of rushing in with nemma to plug up the nowen and lesbian emma allegations(shout-out to the anon on total drama takes with that submission, you're my personal hero).

also I'd make the police cadets not police. as far as police goes they're not bad themselves considering MacArthur doesn't even believe in the institution herself and sanders just wants to do good but is ultimately misguided. but man like could've made them P.I.s trying to prove themselves after getting kicked off the force(I do hc they eventually leave).

Gwen finally goes to one of Geoff's parties where she meets one of his fellow Ridonculous Race contestants. She's happy, outgoing and loves having fun more than anything. They're complete opposites in every way. So why does Gwen feel so comfortable around her?

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get this done by the end of Wednesday but I was still able to get it done for the end of the week. This is for Day 4 of @totaldramararepairweek2023. I was gonna do a whole week of one-shots but I have a lot going on this week so I just stuck with this one. It’s probably for the best because this one ended up being much longer than I thought it would be. I don’t think a lot of people will see this but I’m really satisfied with how it turned out. For those who are here, I hope you enjoy!

as for the style guide, i am far from an expert at replicating art styles, but having a neo-UPA inspired art style really made this easier for me, even if i did struggle on getting used to some design choices.

DISCLAIMER: I do not condone tracing over other people’s artwork to claim as your own final product. I only trace the shapes from the total drama characters to break down and analyze the art style for educational purposes.

IN GENERAL

total drama’s art style is heavily stylized and takes inspiration from clone high and many UPA-inspired cartoons in the late 90’s to early 2000’s. it uses very thick and bold outlines to define its characters and their individual shape language. a lot of designs use a variety of sharp angles, straight lines, and curved arcs to achieve a balanced character design that works in the total drama universe.

because the shape language is very geometric and simple, it’s surprisingly easy to recreate the total drama art style & reimagine some of your favorite characters in the universe!

BODY TYPES: THE “TYPICAL” WOMAN

a lot of the women in the show follow this base, even more than the “typical” male body type. compared to the men, the women of total drama have cat-like eyes, stylized lips, skinny necks, an hour-glass figure, longer and thicker legs, and pointy fingers. head shapes & features may vary depending on character and/or ethnicity. not all women in the show look like this, though! there’s a decent handful of women with very unique body types, such as beth, macarthur, & emma from the 2023 reboot! it also helps to reference characters from different seasons to get a better idea of the shape language in the show’s universe!

BODY TYPES: THE “TYPICAL” MAN

the “typical” body type for men isn’t as well defined as it is for the “typical” woman, so there aren’t as many examples of what defines the “typical” male body type. However, based on the handful of characters we collected, we can determine that the “typical” male body type in total drama is top-heavy. compared to the women, many of the men have broad chests and shoulders, thicker and longer arms, thicker necks, thinner waists and hips, and shorter, thinner legs. they have flatter, more boxy fingers comoared to the pointy fingers the women have. head shapes and features may vary depending on character and/or ethnicity.

BODY TYPES: THE PLUS SIZED WOMAN

plus-sized women follow some of the same rules & principles as the “typical” woman does, from more cat-like eyes to sharper fingers however, in contrast to the more common body type, these woman have much thicker body proportions and use rounder, smoother lines to emphasize either fat or muscle. head shapes and other features may vary depending on the character and/or ethnicity.

BODY TYPES: THE PLUS SIZED MAN

there’s a pretty good variety when it comes to drawing plus-sized men. while some of them, like ripper, follow some similar principles to the “typical” man, others offer a new, unique design base to work with. their features are generally rounder and wider to emphasize their weight. head shapes & other features may vary depending on character and/or ethnicity.

BODY TYPES: THE LANKY MAN

unlike the “typical” man, the lankier men don’t usually have the same broad shoulders and chest. their limbs are much thinner, & they sometimes don’t have any pronounced calves. it’s more common for the lankier men to have their feet facing in the same direction as opposed to the other, though the latter isn’t an uncommon design desicion either. head shapes and other festures vary depending on the character and/or ethnicity.

BODY TYPES: THE BEEFY MAN

Of all the body types presented to the male characters, this one is the closest and most similar to the “typical” male body type. the difference is that the broadness of the shoulders and chest are exaggerated more, and the shape of the arms can vary between being wider to having more lumps. head shapes and other features may vary depending in character and/or ethnicity.

HAIR STYLES

a hairstyle can tell people a lot about a character. theres a lot of different ways to draw hair on characters, though in general, the appeal to total drama’s art style would be the simplicity and angularity in its shape language and character designs, so you don’t have to give your character thousands of spiky hair strands to make them appealing.

im not good at explaining how i replicate art styles so i really hope these help!!! also im sorry this ask took forever to compile lol i just wanted an excuse to study the shows art style more. heres another helpful video to help understand the process of character design !!

the rockers: actually more insuferrable than i thought they'd be, well, spud at least. rock was okay. i mean i liked them both! don't get me wrong! they just had some annoying moments. again, especially spud. of the two i definitely prefer rock. they were a fun duo overall, i loved when they did air guitar every single second of their waking lives. i hated to see them go mostly because of how unfair their elimination was. you're telling me you had so many non-elimination rounds and then just threw in a double elimination? man that's rough. i DID cheer when they almost left but didn't though. i think that counts for something

father and son. i liked them more than i expected. they definitely don't make the favorite list but their gimmick was fun. i don't get why people hate the dad - or why they ship him with don, even for my standards it's kinda random (i respect it tho. love me some old man yaoi) - he was so fun. just your average wannabe cool dad. kinda reminded me of my own dad which might be why i liked him lol. junior was also pretty okay. i really liked when they reunited after the whole waterfall thing :)

reality tv pros. okay, i'll say it: FUCK NOAH. they derailed his character so hard in this. wdym he wouldn't even high five owen? help him get through his fear of flying just a bit? not let him help with relationship advice? oh, and that's another thing. nemma genuinely sucks. i don't get it. it's not even good in canon. i mean they were kinda fine at the start, when owen and kitty were talking about getting them together i thought for sure i'd like them, but then they just became weirdly lovey-dovey and just.. yuck. nah. not to stereotype but emma is dressed like a lesbian and should actually have been a repressed lesbian. she reminds me of myself in a lot of ways. but anyways back to noah and owen, i'll come back to emma... owen was funny as always, i love the guy. noah was... something. yeah i didn't like noah. i actually despised noah in this. he was at his worst. but i can't expect the TD writers to treat their characters decently so at this point i'm keeping my tears to myself.

the goths: one of my favorite duos to grace this show. just... their whole bit was so fun. i loved them so much. they were amazing. they deserved to get further than the... others. as previously stated for the step brothers, ennui is only higher because i like his character design more, and also his whole bit with loki was more pronounced than crimson's with loki and i liked him for it. still love crimson, and i really like them both equally, ennui is just. hehe character design :3

the daters/haters: shut the fuck up. actually? just die. especially stephanie. ryan is just boring and hogs the spotlight a lot, whatever caleb 0.5 BUT STEPHANIE??? oh my god FUCKKK that girl bro. one of the worst characters on this show AND THAT'S SAYING SOMETHING OKAY. just. fuck her. okay moving on

the best friends: ugh. just. ugh. so annoying. their whole gimmick was annoying. okay marinette and adrien 2.0 like i wasn't even rooting for them at all. when they kissed i was like... oh great CAN WE MOVE ONNNNNNNNNN??? yeah sorry i despised these two. prileb but worse. at least prileb had potential. these two were just doomed from the start by the narrative

the sisters: i expected to like emma more. i still like her, i just expected not to fucking hate her entire "omg noah i love you sooo X3 and i HATE my sister ugh >:(" thing. like. why was she like that. why do the most lesbian looking women on this show get the most mid boyfriends (i love you noah NOT IN RR THO YOU CAN DIE IN RR sorry. sorry) but yeah kitty is definitely my favorite sister. their dynamic got better after noah left, and was better before nemma was forced down our throats. i loved their bits THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH NOAH and overall they definitely could have made the favorites list IF. NOT. FOR. NEMMA.

the ice dancers: i expected to dislike them or have mixed feelings on them but honestly? i just like them. they're fun. they know what they want. they're the epitome of antags in this show. they were so good. they knew what their job was and they executed it perfectly. not much to say on them just... love them

the surfer bros: in my mind they lost. i liked them much less than i expected , that being said geoff rose on my list after this season. he was an asshole in TDA but he makes up for it in RR. they are the hockey bros 0.5 and i love them... that being said they are so annoying and brody's gimmick with macarthur was uncomfortable to watch. and like. why did they give him a belly in that one episode. was that necesarry. also why did they come back lmfao. just bogus to me. they were fun but definitely don't deserve to win or anything

the cadets: unsurprisingly, my favorite of the bunch by far. macarthur was higher than sanders because of her witty and funny lines. sanders was so good in later episodes, but most of the time until then she just spent whining about macarthur. that being said macarthur WAS kind of an asshole. but anyways enough about the bad shit, MACARTHUR I LOVE YOU. I AM AROMANTIC AND ACESPEC BUT FUCKING MARRY ME. PLEASE. I ADORE YOU. PLEASE. MACARTHUR ONE CHANCE PLEASE. PLEASE... such a fun duo and MACARTHURRRR <3 so many good moments MACARTHUR!!! <33333 and yk what. ripper macsanders child in my heart. because yeah.

thoughts on every ridonculous race duo including don at the beginning because i just finished watching it for the first time. continued in reblogs

don is such a fun host! he doesn't want anyone to get hurt, and doesn't push anything 'for the ratings'. and even so, he manages to have a lot of funny, witty moments. of course, chris is still my favorite host, but don definitely cuts it close!... especially because, let's be real, we all forgot anyone else in the universe. (don't come for me blaineley fans she's fine I SAID DON'T COME FOR ME STAY BACK PLEASE I HAVE A FAMILY)

the LARPers. definitely some... interesting characters. they're the prime example of total drama's flat and boring personalities, most of which were distributed in pahkitew island. i'm kinda mad that, of all those horribly mid and boring characters, we got the most mid and boring one back. hell i'd have preferred dave there, he'd had given us some substance to the story. i don't even remember the girl's name and i don't wanna google it. forgettable, but definitely annoying for as long as they were on screen.

the tennis rivals. good, but overhyped i think. at least, i've seen a lot of people talk about them and ship them, especially since their cameo in the reboot. i for sure thought they'd last longer because of that. i really liked their banter but they don't come close to my favorites. i will not be calling any of their agents. sorry :(

the geniuses. yeah they definitely existed! i mean their characters were fine and i really don't have anything against them, plus their concept is kinda fun. but i absolutely despise courtney's character and hearing her voice come out of another contestant's mouth made me hate her immediately. I STILL KINDA LIKE HER... like, her character design is fun... i just don't care for them that much

the vegans. they look sooo pretty and.. that is the sole reason i put them down as 'i vibe with'. i really don't care for them. i don't even know their names lmfao

the fashion bloggers. sooo fun whenever they were on-screen. unfortunately this show is so predictable and i can tell when a character's arc comes to an end and they're going home. i don't wish they stayed longer tbh? i like them but i think they've had their time. the wlw/mlm solidarity ever next to the ice dancers but we're getting to them. anyways, solid duo!

the step-brothers. idk about you guys but they are really close to being my favorite duo. just... their entire gimmick is so good. the build-up to finding out they're so similar... ough the bros ever. i was so sad when they got eliminated :( they were so funny AND fun. lorenzo is higher than chet because i like his character design more. tbh they're kinda the same person to me? but this is a mistake i made before watching RR, thinking every duo is the same person. which they're not, i quickly learned. at least not most of them. but yeah these two were very fun, they bounced off each other very well. i really liked them. they should've gone further methinks.

People talk about how Geoff spoke abt Bridgette in RR and they still call her like a bad girlfriend but guys he mentioned her no less that maybe 5 times?(3ish that I can remember) so let me break it down for you

First time he just says hi to her and explains how Brody took what would have been Bridgette’s place if she weren’t in Australia surfin’ around. Everybody knows this duh but I just wanted to throw it in because cuties

Second(?) time, he explains to Brody how Bridgette ‘probably wouldn’t want him saving another princess (in reference to MacArthur & Sanders).

Bridgette has always had a jealousy issue. Final episode of TDA, she gets visibly jealous of Geoff signing sierra’s stomach and arm(?), and she even hits him with her surfboard for looking at another girl.

(Which-to her credit-was with a questionable smirk..but then again he’s always wearing that stupid smirk. But I see where she’s coming from.)

It’s not like Bridgette’s a pure saint. She isn’t some tiny weak girl who needs Geoff’s protection, and she isn’t some monster who treats him like shit. TDI, she snaps back at Heather, throws stuff at Heather, gets in a (verbal) fight with gwen…she’s allowed to be jealous.

But personally, I think the only thing that would have made her so jealous about that was the fact they were referring to the cadets as princesses.

Third(?) time When like..Emma and noah(?) had their kiss interrupted by Geoff and Brody to which Geoff says “if that ever happened to me and bridge, id be in the doghouse for weeks!”

Maybe Geoff was hit over the head one too many times before the race because when has she ever held a grudge. She would not have put him in the dog house be so real with me like look me in the eyes and tell me she would.

But let’s say you believe she would (for some reason.) While the most common definition of ‘being put in the doghouse’ is when you’re mad or at someone, it can also be when you’re just mad annoyed. Not at the person being ‘put in the doghouse’, but yeah.

Though the first definition is FAR more common so..shrugs.

Anyways Bridgette innocent . People would take those two sentences Geoff said and treat it like Geoff said “she throws me in a cage and doesn’t let me eat” be so real. Plus arguably Geoff was worse to her. What he did during TDA outweighs everything she did INCLUDING the cheating. I don’t stand for body shaming buddy
