Tumblr Redesign Religious Monuments
For this series, I combined the theme of subverting religion that was central to my Leviticus posts, with the theme of how people interact with monuments, which was central to Celine’s first series of posts.
What I found most fascinating about Celine’s series were the comments people made about the arch, that seemed to contradict the purpose of the monument.
I researched the most visited religious monuments in the world. In order to find out what people are saying about these monuments, I referred to reviews from TripAdvisor. For each monument, I looked at the “horrible” category of reviews on TripAdvisor, and found comments that subverted the religious purpose of the monument.
I imposed these comments on top of images that, to a degree, contradict the comment. I inverted the images to reinforce the way the comment subverts what the image (and the monument) are attempting to convey.
I complied several image/ comment compositions for each monument, and created a gif that played these compositions in a loop.

Tumblr Project Description
For this series, I combined the idea of inverting religious meaning/ subverting the sacred that framed my Leviticus posts, with the exploration of the way people interact with monuments, which framed Celine's posts. I created 7 gifs featuring 7 of the most visited religious sites in the world. Each gif contains several images of the site, and each image is paired with text from a terrible trip advisor review that works to contradict the image.

Punishments for Sin
Leviticus: What …makes you holy?
The people: I don’t know. I mean, I wouldn’t know what to say now because I don’t necessarily believe all of that but before I would say, how God makes you and loves you. But now I’m not sure there is such a thing.
Leviticus: Is…blood…sexual?
The people: Yes.
Leviticus: What…is a perversion?
The people: It’s something that is wrong and gross.
Leviticus: Is…death..wicked?
The people: No
Leviticus: Is…it….a disgrace…to…die childless?
The people: No.
Leviticus: Do…you…live…according to customs?
The people: Depends whose customs you are talking about.
