Hollyhocks are out in flower, sadly not in my garden though. I have embroidered this mini @dandelyne hoop with beautifully variegated silk ribbons although I think usually hollyhocks are just one colour in reality! 😆.

Last day of #marchmeetthemaker is #FAQ. One question that I am asked constantly is, how do I finish off my jewellery so neatly? I ALWAYS stitch my finished pieces to a form before attaching it to the setting. Some have inserts already, others I have to cut myself to fit. I gather the excess fabric around the embroidery with a running stitch, then lace the back. Full instructions with step by step photos in my book. Which brings me neatly to the #selfpromotion I didn't do on Sunday! A little bee brooch that I was commissioned to stitch recently. The bee is embroidered in stranded cottons, silk floss, polyester and metallic thread. What a mixture!

Recently I have enjoyed making my hydrangea pendants with antique ribbon. The flower head is made with antique French silk ombré ribbon which has a yellow stripe on one half and white the other, I love the effect it gives. I had been saving it for 'best' !! which is ridiculous. #usp also known as unique selling point, is that every embroidery I do is unique. Even if I tried to replicate my own stitching, I often use hand dyed threads so they will, by default look different. The silk ribbon on this pendant is beautifully coloured but the dye is random so I never know what part of the thread is going to appear on the surface of my fabric.
