I rewatched An Unexpected Journey last night and I’ve never noticed just how entertained Elrond seems throughout the entire Rivendell section. Did he NEED to immediately surround the dwarves with his guards? No. Did he NEED to respond to insult with politeness in a language they don’t understand? No. But he is, and you can see him almost smirking about it.

And the Look™️ he sends Gandalf when he reminds him that he isn’t the only one standing guard over Middle Earth I could practically HEAR the “My mother-in-law has shown up unexpectedly and it’s your fucking fault” I had to rewatch that entire part of the movie a second time I was laughing so hard

omg same!! i recently rewatched the hobbit movies with a friend after watching rings of power and the whole dynamics changed for me!! like especially elrond and the dwarves cause like now youve got elrond who was friends (and mayhaps even more) with durin, he saved his life from a number of trolls! so ofc he would know how dwarves think and lets be real he prolly enjoys having them around! like arwen is in lothlorien, elladan and elrohir are out ranging most days and its been too long!

dude just wants to live a little! and its been too long since hes been around durin's folk, like yes they are not the same but he can see glimpses

and do not get me started on the added layer of galadriel and elrond and even if you leave the trop goggles off its still such hilarious scene, like elrond is so taken aback when gandalf says he isnt answerable to anyone like slow blink included. its giving 'i ratted you out to mom what about it' vibes

and then ofc there's saruman 'how do you do fellow teens' the white
