Danny F. Long
Tumblr media
Danny F. Long, 75, of Carpenter Road, Harvey’s Lake, died on July 2, 2024, at his home.
Dan was born in Kingston and was the son of the late Fred and Pauline Franklin Long.  He graduated from Northwest Area H.S. in 1967. After graduation he attended Drexel University.
He enjoyed sharing his children and grandchildren’s accomplishments including; sailing, service, education, flying, cooking, smoking meats, sports, gaming, art, dance, travel, technology, and home improvement (which he happily assisted).  Spending time with and helping family was always a priority.
Dan was a very handy man and avid tinkerer, fixing everything around the house and yard (even if it wasn’t broken). He was very proud of the 3-D electric deer fence he installed around their property to keep critters out of his wife’s lovely flower gardens. He was Evelyn’s biggest fan. Everything in and around the house was created by him, for her. Every songbird, hummingbird, squirrel, and chipmunk found treats at his custom-made animal feeders. He enjoyed the occasional visits of the local bears to the yard and laughed as he repaired the damage they caused to his eclectic collection of bird feeders.
Dan enjoyed Garden Railroading and riding steam trains; many of his photos were published in Garden Railroad Magazine.  Dan was a cowboy at heart, his moniker was “RR Dawg.” He loved shooting his own self-loaded black powder ammunition and dressing in authentic Old West costumes for shoots. He loved listening to Roger Miller. Dan enjoyed hunting with extended family and organic gardening. He provided home-grown produce, canned vegetables from his gardens, and fresh game to his family for many years.  He was a loyal fan of Strawberry Jam Duo, and until recently, could be found “Every Thursday night, 6-9, rain or shine” at The Grotto listening to them. He loved his many dogs over the years, especially Cleo, Lucy, and Gusto. He bred and raised Portuguese Water Dogs for a number of years.
In March of 1969, Dan was drafted and trained for combat at Fort Dix, New Jersey. In September of 1969, he flew out of Fort Lewis Washington Processing Center for arrival in Vietnam. He was assigned to the Army Americal Division and sent to Alpha Company, 5th Battalion, 46th Infantry Regiment at LZ Gator. He was assigned bunker duty and shipped to the field where he learned to work with explosives. On May 8, 1970, he was wounded in an ambush. Despite being severely wounded, he held his position, suppressed enemy fire, and subdued the enemy with precision until reinforcements arrived. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Army Commendation Medal.  He was honorably discharged in 1970 at the rank of Sergeant.
Before he was drafted for service in Vietnam, Dan worked at Berwick Shell Plant making 8” artillery shells. After leaving the Army, he worked in home construction and logging. When injury forced an exit from forestry, he joined the Department of Corrections, Dallas where he retired after 23 years as Sergeant.
He was a member of the Harvey’s Lake American Legion, Post 967, Harvey’s Lake Rod and Gun Club, Americal Division Veterans Association, and a proud lifetime member of the NRA. He was a former Boy Scout Leader with Troops 17, 1 and 3. He was also a member of PSCOA and SASS. He was the recipient of a Quilt of Honor pieced by Jennie Valick-Kopacz and quilted by Diane Levandoski.
Dan is survived by his children, Daniel, Carl, and Susan Long (Rob), Lindsey Valentine (Alex), Alexis Smith (Justin) and Courtney Smith. His grandchildren Alexia Long, Kathryn and Liam Valentine. Siblings Cindy Jennings and Drew Long (Susan). Nephews Nicholas and Steven Long. Former wife Kay and brother in law Tom Andreas. Cousins Richard Long (Elre), Bonnie Evans (Barry) and Eric Long (Joan). Best friend and co-conspirator Dave Jumper and his wife Lisa who was like a sister to Dan. His beloved dachshund, Finnegan. He lived at Harvey’s Lake with his wife and love of his life, Evelyn Sgarlat Smith.
As someone who suffered from the impacts of combat on his mind and body, Dan sought to help other veterans receive their due benefits. He guided many veterans through the complicated paperwork of Compensation, Pension and Disability.  He often quoted “You don’t stop fighting for your rights until the day you die.” Part of his legacy of helping other veterans suffering from PTSD included donating his brain for study to the Department of Veterans Affairs Biorepository Brain Bank. Dan was also a lifelong blood and plasma donor to the American Red Cross.
A private graveside service with Military Honors will be held at Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas.
Memorial contributions, if desired, can be made to the Harvey’s Lake American Legion Post 967, 4907 Memorial Hwy, Harvey’s Lake, 18618.

I'm so confused. So... SJM said she laid out crumbs for the upcoming BOOKS in ACOFAS right? And that was like, domesticated Elriel. Right? And she said during the ACOSF tour for Aus/NZ (which I watched live btw) that none of the new characters have changed anything, she just didn't plan for all of them to be introduced. Yes? So how then, with all of this information, and all of the foreshadowing across the series, especially in ACOFAS and ACOSF, is Azriel supposed to become the mc for a book with his love interest being G*yn? They lack SJM's usual set up. She has absolutely no relevance to the overarching plot. She isn't training, she's in the library. She's still dealing with her trauma. How do people expect them to get the next book?
And why would you want that? Like, he's in love with Elain. It's not lust. The books and bonus chpt show that clearly. He talks about the secret glances and brushing of fingers. We see him stay up at 3am with her just to listen to her plans. We see him staring out the window into her garden. Mor was a safety net that he used to stop himself from getting hurt. He may have been in love with her once upon a time, but somewhere along the line love became like and like became trust. Trust that if he loved her she wouldn't love him back. And he knew that and therefore couldn't be hurt by love more. And then he met Elain and got to know her.
That's the difference. It wasn't instant love for them. It was the bond that formed over time after forming a friendship and learning to understand one another. Friends to lovers. They've both been hurt by love and have their own demons, but they also both deserve to be loved.
And unlike Gw*n, Elain holds significant plot relevance and could hold a book by herself. So how, with all this foreshadowing in the books and hinting that SJM had done in her interviews and old newsletter, do you expect me to believe that Gwy*riel is the obvious choice?
And Elain isn't going to become a villain over them. Where did that stupid rumour that SJM hates her and Feyre come from? She's said Elain would be her best friend out of the characters from the series because they'd get each other. I really don't get it🤷‍♀️.
Oh boy this will be long.
"So... SJM said she laid out crumbs for the upcoming BOOKS in ACOFAS right? And that was like, domesticated Elriel."
You really think ACOFAS confirmed Elr*el?
• Azriel face lights up when Mor enters the house and he was looking at Mor with yearning and heat in the same damn room Elain is in but you conveniently leave that. There was more romantic coding for Moriel than Elr*el in ACOFAS if we'll go by that Lol, but anyhow, we know it's not happening but Sarah was showing us who Azriel was romantically interested in. Yes, Azriel and Elain had a sweet moment and he sat with her that night hearing her garden plans, that does not erase his visible romantic interest in Mor. You argue that Azriel wouldn't change his feelings overnight for Gwyn, well... he won't change his feelings for Elain overnight either and his scenes with mor happened 9 months before ACOSF. He obviously entertained the thoughts of 3 brothers + 3 sisters and projected those fantasies onto Elain, and Mor being away on Vallahan probably made things easier. Wasn't it shown he didn't like Helion asking about "his beautiful Mor" in ACOSF?
• What you also conveniently leave out is the part where Elain is asking Amren about her transformation and Amren immediately shooting down any hopes she might have of transforming back to being human. You really think Sarah would hint at one of the fundamental arcs of Elain snd her struggle to adjust to the Fae world just for her to be like " hmmm Amren yeah you're right". She acted like Amren had no idea what she was talking about because she exposed her. Elain wanting her humanity back is a big crumb that has nothing to do with Elr*el.
• Azriel's hatred towards the Illyrians was addressed (as it was addressed again in ACOSF too). That is another crumb for Azriel's arc "It was healthy, perhaps, for Az to sometimes remember where he’d come from. He still wore the Illyrian leathers. Had not tried to get the tattoos removed. Some part of him was Illyrian still. Always would be. Even if he wished to forget it." Sarah won't keep bringing this up if it means it won't be dealt with because hating his identity feeds into his self-loath.
• Elain is keeping up an appearance to appease everyone. “Why wouldn’t I be all right?” she asked, a smile lighting up her face. I’d seen those smiles before. On my own damn face. Yep... even Feyre senses that.
• You also leave out THE Morrigan's speech to Feyre: Mor leaned back against the steps, utterly unrepentant. “Let him live with his Band of Exiles. Let him deal with Tamlin in his own way. Let him figure out where he wants to be. Who he wants to be. The same goes with her.” She was right. That doesn't sound to me like Sarah drowning Elucien, more like they have a LONG way to go before they get together.
Let's move on from ACOFAS.
And she said during the ACOSF tour for Aus/NZ (which I watched live btw) that none of the new characters have changed anything, she just didn't plan for all of them to be introduced.
Ah this part that you guys love to twist. Here is a post where I explain this. She never said none of the new characters changed anything she only said more characters were introduced and never specified what role those characters would play. The question was about it things change, she said things did not change as much as they expanded. (Link to the post here with video).
So how then, with all of this information, and all of the foreshadowing across the series, especially in ACOFAS and ACOSF, is Azriel supposed to become the mc for a book with his love interest being G*yn? They lack SJM's usual set up.
Here is another post on Sarah's ideal couples. I won't bother writing much on things I have already addressed before (link to post here).
Sorry but Elain and Azriel's chemistry is as blans as a stale biscuit.
That's the difference. It wasn't instant love for them. It was the bond that formed over time after forming a friendship and learning to understand one another.
Azriel said nothing. He hadn't gotten that far with his planning, certainly not beyond the fantasies he pleasured himself to.
These are his thoughts. We were in his head. He doesn't need to confess his love for Elain to Rhys but we might've had something since we're in his head? Sorry but what Azriel is feeling for Elain is a recycled version of how he felt, with less intensity though, for Mor. They barely interact. They barely talk. You said do yourself, there were only glances and brushes of fingers. Sarah did not add something of substance for them because it's obvious they're not ending up with each other, they're seeing each other as a safe option. Sarah likes to write her couples with tension between them and take the rocky road until they get together. Elr*el without the forbidden love have nothing spicing up their dynamic. Sarah knows how to write a romance, she knows how to build up a couple (e.g. Nessian in ACOWAR) and she herself said she likes to write tor her heroines to experience romance with a couple of characters before they end up with their endgame (e.g. Celaena with Dorian and Chaol) and she also said she did not want the romance between Rowan and Aelin to be obvious in Heir of Fire, back then people were convinced she would still end with up with Chaol while her and Rowan were platonic.
And unlike Gw*n, Elain holds significant plot relevance and could hold a book by herself.
No one denies that, Elain is getting her own book we know that. Who is connected to most of her plots? Here is a pretty little graph that clears that up. What is obvious to me is Azriel's book being next and I'm pretty sure that what Sarah meant by it being obvious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So how, with all this foreshadowing in the books and hinting that SJM had done in her interviews and old newsletter, do you expect me to believe that Gwy*riel is the obvious choice?
It is the obvious choice.
You're telling me that the next couple would have only a SINGLE dialogue between them in the entire book? This was the only direct dialogue on the text between Azriel and Elain. For those that haven't read the bonus chapter would be confused as hell if they read the next book and suddenly there is this forbidden romance because where did it come from? They barely interacted
Tumblr media
Look at the language Sarah uses with all her endgame couples (here is a post on that). It is so clear. I won't waste much time typing this because I am replying to you, I'm not trying to convince you because if you believe in Elr*el then... good for you I guess? And I don't think you can convince me either because I'm pretty confident Gwyn and Azriel are endgame.

83, 85, 7, 18 for Hphl Mc
Thanks for the ask @wangxianforever000
I’ll do the two youngest, Elred and Logan
Elred Rosseto
Tumblr media
7. Does your oc collect anything? What about of knowledge or facts? How big is their collection?
He collects random artifacts he sees when he’s in ruins he knows he’s not supposed to be in with Logan and Lierin
18. How physically strong is your oc? Is their agility or endurance better?
Damn I would say like Mike Tyson level but he’s more like Connor McGregor level, his endurance could be better but it’s not that bad and his agility is really good since he uses knives a lot and he doesn’t want to stab his eye out
83. What is your oc’s favourite trait about themselves? What about their least liked? What would others like and dislike the most about your oc?
Him being nice and him being too nice, him being nice has made him do some dumb decisions and he hates that he’s too nice
85. What would history remember your oc for? How would they become famous? Or are they the sort that would really only be appreciated long after their death?
Idk about this
Logan Rosseto
Tumblr media
7. Does your oc collect anything? What about of knowledge or facts? How big is their collection?
He collects random objects from the human realm whenever he is there and now that he lives there his collection is growing a lot bigger. He has a lot of random knowledge that he knows for some odd reason
18. How physically strong is your oc? Is their agility or endurance better?
He’s pretty strong and he can hold his own with his giant of a brother named Elred. His agility is pretty good as it has to be unless he wants to accidentally chop someone’s arm off when he’s running around with a sword killing random dangerous animals
83. What is your oc’s favourite trait about themselves? What about their least liked? What would others like and dislike the most about your oc?
He’s very self centered most of the time so he would say his looks and he least likes that he stabs/shoots first instead of asking first but it’s more effective that way.
O there’s would definitely hate that he’s self centered a lot and they would probably like that he’s protective a lot
85. What would history remember your oc for? How would they become famous? Or are they the sort that would really only be appreciated long after their death?
They would remember him as the meanest hufflepuff there ever was. He wouldn’t be famous except for the people who can brag that they know an elf and have been to the elf realm (Willam Devlin @unfortunate-arrow)

How the correct use of the right equipment will enhance your long distance tripod shooting experience
Tumblr media
People who participate in shooting competitions constantly want to know how they can perform better. This also sometimes applies to the hunter who needs to pursue accuracy to ensure the animal is not only injured but killed with the first shot. But what can lead to a missed shot, except the shooter himself?
When it comes to long distance shooting, the best advice for shooters and hunters who want to perform better is to use their equipment correctly and optimally, and the use of tripods, in particular, has over the years contributed tremendously towards accuracy in this regard. While many first-time hunters sometimes mistakenly think it is just a matter of aiming and firing, they too are often faced with several challenges out in the hunting field.
The moment the hunter makes that important ‘first shot’ at an animal, a great responsibility rests on his shoulders to ensure a quick death for his prey. The hunter who does not approach the responsibility with the necessary seriousness should think carefully about his role as a ‘modern hunter’.
Large quantities of animal are annually injured due to poor or missed shots. A responsible hunter must always know his limitations in terms of his shooting skills in the hunting field and this knowledge is only gained by regularly practising and responsible actions (application of sound judgment) in the hunting field. Therefore, it is also important to use the right equipment such as the long-distance tripod to ensure accuracy.
Few people shoot accurately from a free-standing position and for long distance competition shooters as well as hunters, it is essential to have the most stable rest as possible. In pre-hunting, it is necessary for the hunter to fire a few practice shots using the tripod, so that he can find a comfortable position that will also work in the hunting field.
Long distance tripod shooting may be a thrilling experience for many and its growing popularity in recent years proves exactly that point. However, accuracy, which is the skill to have your round hit precisely where aimed at your preferred range, is not often acquired if the right gear and equipment are not used.
Accuracy is the most critical aspect of the whole experience, but while accuracy is key for hunters, precision is the main requirement in long-range competitions. While hitting a target at around 1,000 yards during long distance tripod shooting is remarkable, competitors are constantly attempting to reach further distances every year.
Precision rifle, long-and extra-long range (ELR) competitions are amongst the fastest-growing shooting sports across the world and with this comes an array of rifle accessories and shooting gear. No sporting discipline is really the same and some present many different options that can easily empty your pocket if you do not go about the business carefully.
The best plan for those who just started with long distance shooting or even hunting is to find an affordable rifle store where you can purchase a good performance long distance rifle. Gradually buy the minimal accessories you will need and it may be wise to spend your time and money on some training too.
Good instruction is always a great start to any discipline and when it comes to long distance tripod shooting, the same applies. You can search the internet to find a company that provides customers with a choice of quality products to help you achieve the best aim when long-range shooting.
Long distance tripod shooting will require a rifle, a sling and a bag, and obviously a tripod to get the basics down. You may want to look at the carbon OTB tripod kit, which offers the convenience of standing out of the box. It is made from lightweight carbon fiber and the kit offers everything you will need to get started in long distance tripod shooting.

Uncharted Territory: Paul Phillips and Global Precision Group’s 6,000-Yard Shot (3.4 Miles) | McMillan Fiberglass Stocks
Tumblr media
Photo Credit: Tactiholics Uncharted Territory: Paul Phillips and Global Precision Group’s 6,000-Yard Shot BY MCMILLAN Paul Phillips has been using McMillan Fiberglass Stocks for nearly three decades. Our relationship goes back to when Paul left the service after serving our country as an Infantryman in the United States Marine Corps. He contacted Gale McMillan back then wanting the best riflestock for hunting and competitive shooting, and Gale got him what he needed. Settling on a .300 Win Mag, Paul not only had a new hunting rifle, but he started winning matches with it at Camp Perry. McMillan still offers a wide variety of the best Winchester compatible fiberglass stocks on the market — and just as Gale helped Paul, customer service remains the center of our brand’s philosophy. Paul said that by the ‘90s McMillan was a household name in the service, that he knew exactly who he needed to contact for his gun build. Several of our products have come directly out of collaborations with Paul. All these years later, he continues working closely with our company, helping us improve our products and importantly, breaking new ground in the competitive shooting and extreme long range (ELR) worlds. Recently, Paul made the longest confirmed shot on target. Not only did he do it with a McMillan stock, but Kelly McMillan was there to witness this feat. On January 19 in the desert outside Las Vegas, days before Shot Show 2019, Paul and his Global Precision Group team (Mark Lonsdale and Derek Rodgers) were preparing to take a 6,012-yard shot. With the main goal being ELR practice at 1–2 miles, it was a last-minute collaborative effort between sponsors, GPG, and their forward observers (Mauro Del Mastro and John Droelle) to push the limits of ELR. Paul had to put the rifle together and mount the scope on site that morning. After positioning a custom 11-mile camera system designed by Alex Cordesman, to monitor the target, they began shooting. “The exhibition shoot we did was merely to experiment and test the new TACOMHQ Charlie and Delta sights,” Paul said. “That was the purpose, why we went back to 6,000-yards, to see how well it worked.” The TACOMHQ Charlie Tarac mounts to the front of a riflescope and adds up to 800 MOA of elevation without adding or changing the gun’s rails, rings, or zero, and allowing for full magnification. Their Delta Tarac shifts the image center line in the scope to the side, because at a certain MOA the barrel and muzzle become visible in the scope at those extreme elevations. At that range, team GPG’s shot was at 625 MOA on a Nightforce 7-35×56 ATACR with the TACOMHQ Charlie and Delta attached. “You can shoot as far as the gun is capable of shooting,” Paul said. “Maximum range.” It wasn’t chance that Paul’s gun had a McMillan stock. He selected the McMillan ELR Beast 1 for this build because he recognizes the benefits and long-range capabilities of our fiberglass stocks. Paul was on the team of two King of 2 Miles champions, Mitch Fitzpatrick in 2016 and Derek Rodgers in 2017, who both placed first using a McMillan stock. Derek and Paul are 2 of 4 ever to hit the full 2-mile target in KO2M history. For this 6,012-yard shot, Paul used a BAT 50 caliber action and a Bartlein 40” barrel chambered in 416 Barrett, but the McMillan ELR Beast is what held it all together. With Paul behind the gun, the target was 1/2 MOA across and 3/4 MOA tall at 6,012-yards (32” x 48”). Team GPG was simply seeing how far bullets would fly. They were also testing the Applied Ballistics Analytics, a computer program that’s key to calculating D.O.P.E. and dialing in ELR shots, at the farthest it’s ever been used. The farther the distance, the greater margin for errors both in design and predictions. It took 15 shots before Paul’s forward observers even saw a splash in the sand. The flight distance is 17.1 seconds, so Paul would shoot and then shoot again. 7 shots later, the 22nd bullet made contact towards the top of the target. The next shot had already been fired and came in about 1 MOA short. In the video on GPG’s Facebook, Paul jumps up from the gun, everyone is excited, he watches the monitor to confirm it himself and then goes over and hugs Kelly. Paul followed up for a total of 30 shots, and while only one made impact on target, the following shots were all within 10-yards of the target, some missing only by inches. Paul wants to prove that multiple hits are repeatable at that range, and this is the first step towards gathering the information and testing the equipment needed to do so. Paul and his GPG team are proven competitors. Derek is the reigning FTR World Champion, Mark is an internationally ranked competitor, and Paul is the reigning NRA ELR National Champion. They weren’t lobbing shots downrange hoping to hit; they were using state of the art equipment, testing and taking data in order to learn more about shooting at both practical ELR distances and future extreme endeavors. This was following Paul’s GPG test at a 4,125-yards earlier this year, where he hit on the 6th shot. Team GPG plans to conduct a 7,040-yard (4-mile) exhibition shoot soon. Again, in the name of data collection and testing what the equipment and computer programs are capable of at their outer-limits. “By doing these tests and pushing the boundaries, it gives us a good sampling of how important each item [variable] is,” Paul said. “If we go again and we have the same type of data a second time, a sampling, maybe we can learn whether it was environmental changes or equipment.… We think that we can do well at 4-miles. We’re going to set up a one minute-of-angle target and we’re going to attempt to hit it at 4-miles within 25 rounds.” It took a team. Paul emphasized the importance of his help that day from Mark and Derek, including forward observers Mauro and John, technical support from Alex, and all his sponsors. McMillan is proud to be a part of this team as Paul and Global Precision Group continues to take ELR as far as it will go. Thank you to the other individuals and companies who made that a possibility. Check out their video of the shot. Now an accomplished F-Class and ELR competitor, thank you, Paul Phillips, for serving our country and for helping prove the McMillan brand in new and exciting ways.

The Immortal Fake’s absolutely have a communication device that looks and feels identical to a pistol, à la Gavin’s in ELR. It would be exactly as stupidly fatal as one would expect. When the brief shock-factor amusement of the thing wears off they agree to chuck it out, except of course by then someone has already mixed it into the armoury and no one can work out which gun it is. They try to hunt it down by testing everything but the absurd amount of mess they make shooting the real guns at the walls and each other quickly has everyone giving it up as a lost cause. Like most misplaced things the communication gun does eventually make a reappearance; unfortunately, the moment it’s identified coincides with the moment Jeremy goes to shoot a cop point blank and is met with nothing but an awkward pause and the crackle of static when he pulls the trigger.
