Tagged out in Starr County this season! Managed our herd and packed our freezers at the El Melado division of El Huarache Ranch. Blessed with tags on an 8, a 9 and an 11 point low-fence buck. Dropped the 8 and 9 right where I shot them on or near the road, but I had to track the 11 about 100 yards due to the malfunction of an old office chair in one of the blinds. Lol. The chair wasn’t locked and it decided to sink right before my cinch shot at 55 yards (see video), startled the buck, shifted my position and I ended up hitting the 11 pointer a little behind the shoulder. Nonetheless, we have meat for five households and the herd looks solid for seasons to come. Btw...our herd is loving the deer corn from @shopblueribbon in Beeville, TX! After a quick trip to L.A. last Tuesday, watching the #Astros win the World Series on Wednesday, playing four shows in a row starting Thursday at #BrewsterStreet and ending Sunday afternoon at St. Elizabeth of Hungary’s Fall Fest in Alice, I managed to race down south to catch the Sunday afternoon hunt of opening weekend. A big thanks to Mr. Max for taking me out to the ranch, despite the #Cowboys playing that afternoon. Hell, I was confused and thought they were playing at night, otherwise I’d have never gone hunting and never asked one of the biggest Dallas fans I know, to miss the game. That’s when ya know the Suegro probably does love ya! Ha. Good thing it only took me five minutes sitting in the blind for the spike we’d been wanting to remove from the herd, to come walking up. Needless to say, the hunt started at halftime and we were leaving #ElMeladoRanch by the start of the 3rd Quarter! It was a great way to cap off the week and a great way to kick off whitetail season! I dropped this 9-Point Buck at 150 yards while it was hiding in the brush with my .25-06, to close out 2016. Good thing the rest of his herd was drawn to @WGInnovations #SugarBeetCrush, which set up the shot to the heart. A huge thanks to J.D. Carrera of #ShootersAlley in Mission, TX for sighting-in my rifle with pinpoint accuracy, that helped me grab my two kills for the season. A very special shoutout to Mr. Max Diaz for putting up with me at the ranch, for buying me tacos and for telling me I need to go to confession after every kill. Ha. Happy New Year, Y'all!
