The Nazi violence towards Jewish people during the second world war took various forms and engaged on various levels, including clothing. The obligation for Jewish people to stitch a yellow star of David to their clothing like the one exhibited above, resulted in the easy identification of Jewish people in Europe who were then sent to ghettos and Nazi camps. In Denmark, the Jewish Danes were not forced to wear the conspicuous marker of religion that proved deadly for so many of the other European jews. From the beginning of the occupation, the Danish government agreed to cooperate with the Nazis by providing food and materials for their war effort as long as the so called 'jewish question' was not enforced to its citizens. The support from the King, the government and the people of Denmark of its Jewish citizens lead to their ultimate survival of the war as in 1943 when Germany decided to enforce the 'Jewish Question'.
