whimsical, eccentric, cheeky, charming, sentimental <3
also i think your vibe/ aesthetic is reminiscent of cocteau twins’ song & album names(?) like
-sea, swallow me
-seekers who are lovers
-ella megalast burls forever
-how to bring a blush to the snow
-milk & kisses
-pandora (for cindy)
-sunburst and snowblind
-glass candle grenades
like similar imagery idk—i have a vision of you frolicking in a spring field in a airy seashell-pink tulle dress, or dissolving into sea foam dramatically
i wish i could dissolve dramatically into the sea. or live up to this incredible imagery, LOL. actually, after I got your ask, I went to spotty and made a little playlist complied with the songs I could find from your list!! So thank-you for the new music, Anon. 🥺🌷💕
(given the imagery you painted — seashell-pink tulle and dissolving into sea foam — I thought it’d be fun to disclose that I have frolicked in a pink-tulle dress. :’) Multiple times, actually, now that I’m thinking about it which is weird BUT; in this case in particular I did a vanity shoot with a friend (highly recommend lmao) and almost immediately thought of this photo from the set, in particular, when I read your words.)

(identity ask) 2 - 4 - 15 - 19 - 29
Tysm!! 2: have you ever found a writer who thinks just like you? if so, who?: Mary Oliver and I literally share the same brain, I wish I got to meet her :( 4: do you like your name?  is there another name you think would fit you better?: Ehhh it’s okay and fits me but the names Rosemary, Violet, Wendy, and Autumn?? I would die for those names 15: five most influential books over your lifetime: 1. Don’t Know Much About Geography by Kenneth C. Davis 2. Our World by Molly Malone Cook and Mary Oliver 3. The Perks of Being a Wall Flower (this book & movie took over my life in middle school) 4. Any book I’ve read about Paganism 5. The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien 19: which Harry Potter house would you be in? or are you a muggle? I’ve only read like 30 pages into the first Harry Potter book but the test said I was a Hufflepuff! Fitting 29: three songs that you connect with right now: 1. Sea, Swallow Me by Cocteau Twins 2. Mary by Big Thief 3. Ella Megalast Burls Forever by Cocteau Twins

Blue Bell Knoll, Cocteau Twins (1988)
Tumblr media
Blue Bell Knoll might be known for its exemplary production; for its expansion of the Twins’ ethereal wave toward a more layered, structured and defined sound more akin to modern dream pop than shoegaze; for a couple of tracks here that still stand out as some of the band’s most emphatic, memorable material. But once someone points out the glaring irritabilities here, they’re impossible to ignore. Rolling ‘r’s and tee-hee-hees. Two crucial, unavoidable vocal tropes that Elizabeth Fraser rarely utilised on other Twins records, but are dominant here. Not that they spoil the record, they merely make it more difficult for other elements to make up for their over-reliant tropisms.  In truth, only two tracks overshadow Fraser to the point of compliment. ‘Blue Bell Knoll’ has fluttering synths and the might of a horns section behind it that add something enchanting about Fraser’s chuckling vocal fluctuations and ridiculously-rolled ‘r’s; while the graceful finality of the chord progression on ‘Ella Megalast Burls Forever’ could carry any tune. The rest isn’t so much unenjoyable, but more typical of what one will have heard on all the Twins’ records prior to this. Blue Bell Knoll was an accumulation of all their sounds up to its release and is a record that doubtlessly will appeal to anyone who found themselves endeared to the band’s previous work, but isn’t as distinctive as Victorialand, as eye-opening as Treasure, nor as perfectly refined as Heaven or Las Vegas.
Pick: ‘Blue Bell Knoll’
