4/ The Siman Tov family. Hamas burned them in their home.

5/ The Arava family. Hamas kidnapped Ella and Dafna, and murdered the rest of the family. All while broadcasting it online. They made the young boy force other people to come out of hiding before they murdered him.

6/ The Zohar family. Were murdered at their home in Kibbutz Nahal Oz. The son miraculously survived because he wasn’t at home during the attack. 

7/ The Bradichevsky family. The parents were both murdered while trying to protect their 10 month old twins. They managed to save the babies, but now they’re orphaned.

8/ The Or family. The parents were murdered by Hamas while trying to protect their children. The children Alma and Noam were kidnapped and released without knowing what happened to their parents.

9/ The Swissa family. When the terrorists arrived, the parents were trying to flee the city by car. The girls were left in the car while their parents' bodies lay at the front before policemen came and rescued them.

10/ The Sharabi family. On oct 7 Eli the father went to protect the girls but was kidnapped along with his brother Yosi. He didn’t know Hamas murdered his wife and two daughters.

11/ The Idan family. The parents were murdered by Hamas while trying to protect their children. Abigail the youngest was kidnapped, while the two other children hid in the closet for 14 hours while their mother dead body is lying on the ground.

12/ The Meir family. Hamas terrorists murdered them at their home in Kibbutz Nirim. One daughter hid in the safe room and miraculously survived.

13/ Lastly, the Bibas family. On Oct 7 the father Yarden went to protect his family and was kidnapped. He didn’t know his wife and two children were kidnapped too. Palestinians strangled the two boys by hands and murdered them.

1. Does your Rook fall for their partner at first sight? If not, what moment made your Rook realize they're in love with them?

I don't know if it was necessarily love at first sight, but I think something stirs in Ella when she and Bellara (yes, it's always Bellara) hit the Ossuary to save Lucanis. He's an objectively handsome man who single handedly took out multiple Venatori guards after that fucking backflip out of his cell. And the WINGS (she's Rivaini so spirits don't bother her). The style. The brooding. The beard.

But my dear Rook doesn't realize she's in love until Weisshaupt. She's been playing her flirting game and doing all she can to be around him because she simply enjoys being around him. He's a ball of yarn that she can't stop unraveling. There's a magnetism that draws her right back to the dang pantry every single time she's back at the Lighthouse, but they're friends. She might even go so far as to say he's one of her closest friends at that point, though Taash is quickly rising in the ranks.

When they end up at Weisshaupt, of course Mila is their guide, and Ella wants nothing more than to return the sassy lil Warden child to her dad but feels dread knowing he could very likely be dead. Every time Lucanis checks in with Mila or gives a word of reassurance, Ella has her heart twisting in her chest. They're both orphans, but without any other family, Ella had been that little girl alone. Seeing this renowned assassin who cooks love into every dish he makes for the team so dead set on reuniting Mila with her dad has Ella absolutely cooked.

She lays on her chaise that night after everything with her heart pounding in her ears at the realization that she's absolutely head over heels in love with this fucked up lovable man.

7. Are they a physically affectionate couple? Are they fine displaying those affections in public or do they prefer to be in private? If they're not, how do they prefer to show their love instead?

I was thinking about this over the last couple of days actually. My sweet unserious LoF (but also very clearly hiding an old buried hurt) Rook is very touchy. She's a casual conversation toucher. Very openly affectionate with everyone around her. She accidentally pats Strife's arm while chatting early on and nearly dies by means of death glare. Lucanis, however, is relatively closed off especially with people he's just met. He won't be just touching for the sake of touching. Especially when Spite won't shut up about Rook, which has Lucanis fully believing he can't possibly genuinely be into her. That it's just the demon. When Spite is sitting there unable to hear anything else besides the intense yearning Lucanis is going through.

Even when their feelings are clear for one another, he doesn't know what to do or how to act. It's all new territory, and he definitely cannot screw everything up. Meanwhile, she doesn't want to make him uncomfortable or push anything too far. So they just... stay like this for quite some time. It's not until well after the gods have been defeated that it gets addressed. All of their concerns are laid out on the table (or rather while they walk the streets of Treviso early one morning), and after that, it's all hands on smalls of backs. Hands held under tables. Kisses to knuckles. Longing gazes when the other is talking. Subtle enough to be acceptable in public, but enough that it's clear they are very loudly in love.

In private, there are a lot of mindless touches. Lucanis likes to toy with her curls, wrapping them around his fingers. Twirling the hairs at the base of her neck. Lightly scratching between her shoulders. Kisses to her forehead when he passes by. Whereas Ella is still ever the toucher. Sometimes she will just tap on his hand as she ponders things. Or there's always the clapping against upper arms or shoulders when she's enthusiastically talking about something. She touches his chest a lot, though, when it comes to actual affectionate touches. Gentle ghosting over a clothed or bare chest. Playing with chest hair (there is no way he's not hairy). She has always loved to be near him, so getting to be so close she can touch him any time she wants is thrilling.

They also write each other a lot of little notes. Sometimes silly. Sometimes loving. Always messages written with all the fondness in the world.

hi! do you happen to have any recommendations for contemporaries with an arranged marriage plot? or arranged marriage adjacent like they have to be together for plot reasons but not in fake dating kind of way.

The Lyonesse series by Sierra Simone (beginning with Salt in the Wound) is an MMF contemporary erotic romance series that kicks off with Isolde Laurence getting betrothed~ to the sex club owner/ex-assassin (maybe ex? Maybe?) Mark Trevena in order to align her family with him. The issue is that a) they don't trust each other at all and have their own agendas b) despite this, they're both fascinated with each other in a very "black cat meets black cat" way c) they both happen to fall in love with Mark's bodyguard Tristan. Who is NOT a black cat lmao.

Mafia Virgin by Mila Finelli. This is a contemporary mafia romance in which the hero (a mafia don who everyone thinks is stupid but he's actually just very smart and also a boxer) and the heroine (a lower boss's daughter who just wants to go to med school dammit) are forced to marry for alliance reasons... and the Big Bad wants her pregnant within six months. Good thing they both have a breeding kink, despite, you know, ALL THE ISSUES.

Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. A fabulous older contemporary; the spoiled little rich girl heroine's father basically forces her to marry this man who wants nothing to do with her. They plan on having it annulled as soon as possible, but FIRST... she has to go on the road with him and the circus he worked for as a kid. He's also very mean! In a way I was into! He does whip tricks in the circus! There's a psychic connection with a tiger, an elephant situation, SOOO much drama. It's great.

Marriage for One by Ella Maise. To be clear, I need to reread this because I largely remember enjoying it and not as many specifics, but it's basically a "marry for the inheritance" deal where the heroine needs someone to marry her in order for her to inherit a coffee shop (I think?). And for some reason, the cold man she hardly knows agrees lol

You might get some of this from:

The Bride Test by Helen Hoang. In this one, the hero and heroine don't marry off the bat, but the heroine is basically brought over from Vietnam because the hero (who's Vietnamese-American, to be clear) is single and his mom wants him to... not be. The heroine is secretly a single mom, and the hero is single because he's on the spectrum and believes he's incapable of love (also, he's a virgin).

Possession by Adriana Anders. This one has an A-list actor hero who is in a PR marriage with the ingenue rising star heroine. It's supposed to be completely platonic, but it is a legal marriage. He's caught "cheating on her" with a woman who looks just like her, and in the ensuing scandal he runs off to this secret kink camp he likes to visit when he's overwhelmed... and she follows him there... and learns some things about herself...

Nobody's Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. In this one, the heroine was this genius prodigy who basically has never had a normal relationship because she's too smart for everyone... So the logical solution is to have a baby (she desperately wants to be a mom) with a dumbass. So the baby has a normal IQ. She selects this famous quarterback as the dumbass (it makes sense in context) and pretends to be a sex worker and basically tricks him into getting her pregnant. WHICH IS BAD! But to be clear, the first time she pokes holes in the condom and it doesn't work lol. Then she never plans on seeing him again. But they HAPPEN to run into each other... and he goes "fuck the condom" because he's frustrated... and... WELLLLLP.

He quickly finds out she's pregnant because he is in fact NOT STUPID AT ALL LOL, and because no child of his is gonna be a bastard and he's famous, he forces her to marry him. I do... love this novel.
