#Fame in History is the story of #eccentricity - #History is not made by conformists. It is made by eccentrics; women & men, mostly LGBTQs whose original thinking, lifestyles & #fashion provided the new ideas & cultural leaps that shaped the achievements inventions & discoveries progress. The word Eccentricity dates back to the Ancient Greek word ekkentros: the measurement of a planet’s deviation from a circular orbit. In the 1600s The Eccentrics emerged as the #celebrities - originals who cut a line of their own of their own by daring to stand out rather than blend in. The history of eccentricity & it’s intrinsic role in Fame & Celebrity requires stripping away the revisionist accounts of Victorian #historians who rewrote history using bigotry rather than facts to ghost the enormous achievements of women & hetero-normalise LGBTQs - robbing women & LGBTQs of their heroes & heroines & denying everyone of the truth. Women Celebrites from Elizabeth Cary & #ElizabethWilbraham & LGBTQs such #FrancisBacon #AphraBehn #Shakespeare were hetero-normalised whilst - #MalFrith who in 1610 became the first #transgender #celebrity to become a household name throughout the kingdom & the subject of plays & biographies was erased by Victorian moralists in 1840s. The combination of women & #lgbtqs together make up over 67% of the world’s talent & it was this majority, ghosted from the pages of history, who emerged as The Eccentrics, the celebrities who set the world ablaze with new ideas & art-forms including opera & fashion. The birth of eccentricity began with the coronation of Britain & Ireland’s first openly & unapologetically gay Monarch, King James I in 1603 - James shook things up & inspired Britain’s Golden Age through his support of the #Baroque & #scientificrevolution ⚜️Ironically it took the death of England’s first Queen before the first fulllength #play written by a woman was staged...#elizabethcary erased like most famous women & #lgbtqs I’m breathing life into as I celebrate The #eccentrics of #history @jononamara @tombell79 🎥 @bbc (at Mayfair) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5_YcxUAVoQ/?igshid=1pxt3cgogqg3k

With @daniellismore @nationalliberalclub Celebrating The Baroque & the birth of Eccentricity - the Ancient Greek word ekkentros described the measurement of planets deviation from a circular orbit, ekk "out of" + kentron, “centre”. The words #eccentricity & #celebrity both words entered #britain & #ireland during the #jacobean 1603-1625 when Britain’s first openly gay monarch, King JamesI celebrated the #LGBTQIA thinkers & artists who’d been muted by the Calvinist prejudice of the #Elizabethian ⚜️#Shakespeare #Sir Francis Bacon #ElizabethCary #MaryWroth #InigoJones & other #Queer #eccentrics became #celebrities through the new freedoms & opportunities in the #Salons of the Jacobean & Caroline Era (1603-1942) who championed the cultural freedoms of the #aroque & new ideas of the #scientificrevolution ⚜️Eccentricity was valued over class, gender, colour & religion. Gender became more fluid enabling the rise of #Dandies #dandizettes & the fame & celebrity of transman actor Mall Frith (born Mary 1584-died Mall Frith 1659) who was the first transgender Torchbearer of History. Born into the artisan class of #cordwainers on Aldergate Street London amongst the aristocracy, next door to the famous Poet John Milton - Mall Frith became a household name as an #actor & his extraordinary journey to live & dress as a #transman & fight in the Civil War as a Royalist hero. Frith’s eccentricity & refusal to adhere to gender stereotypes was celebrated in the Restoration. Alas 400 years later, historians have maligned Frith as an immoral criminal based on Calvinist prejudice. This same prejudice has been used as a means of “racially & morally cleansing history” of women, LGBTQIAs & non-AngloSaxon Torchbearers of History & still too little is being done to redress this crime #artasfashion #fashionasart #queertorchbearers #historymatters #blackhistorymatters #womenshistorymatters #queerhistorymatters (at The National Liberal Club) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEw2_mwAp37/?igshid=11k63tl9omcmr

Celebrating #LGBTQ Britain & Ireland since 1603 when we welcomed our first openly #gay #monarch by cheering “The Queen in dead! God save Queen James!” ⚜️Within a week of his coronation in 1603 he knighted the 42 year old Francis Bacon who had been abused by the Elizabethan Court for being #gay & his lover Shakespeare staged his first play #AsYouLikeIt ⚜️In 1604 James loosened censorship laws & #ElizabethCary became the first woman to write a play under her own name ⚜️James abolition of #sumptuarylaws ushering in an era of #crossdressing flamboyant #fashions & unrivalled liberties during which #women & #lgbtqs not only came out of the shadows of the medieval but became the stars of the age & spearheaded the Baroque & new ideas of #scientificrevolution - Sir #FrancisBacon #Shakespeare #MaryWroth & #CountessofPembroke became household names ⚜️In 1610 Mal Frith became the world’s first Transgender Celebrity staring in a play about his life - #Puritans expanded their propaganda campaign & in 1618 JamesI was called to the Privy Council to answer charges about his displays of sexual affection with his “wife” George Villiers - He Declared “I will not have it (his love for George) be thought a defect!” His Queen, Anna supported their love & the 3 were buried together in Westminster Abbey ⚜️KingCharlesI expanded the liberties & refused the Puritan Parliaments demands to criminalise #crossdressing effeminate men & masculine women, close #theatres #taverns ⚜️KingCharlesI courage in refusing to bow to Parliamentary bigots ended in the #civilwars & #genocides of bold women & #LGBTQs as #Cromwell #Puritan #Military #Dictatorship of racial & moral cleansing ended with his death in 1658 & ensured Britain & Ireland never again tolerated religious fanaticism ⚜️It angers me that white straight Male Victorian historians - driven by bigotry rather than truth - have ghosted the achievements & names of the Eccentric women & LGBTQs who defined the Modern Age from 1603 onwards ⚜️I am committed to erasing the #bigotry from #history & celebrating the magnificence genius & talent of #Eccentric women & #lgbtq using source material of the age #pride (at Royal Festival Hall) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2zsc-9A8qJ/?igshid=1dwjd67wb4vnt
