Disclaimer:

We do NOT ship a child El with an adult Henry.

(People accuse us of this while simultaneously supporting equally or more problematic ships lol).

We support AUs and canon divergence ideas such as the following:

-Henry and El are the same age. They meet in the lab.

-Henry is redeemed in Season 5, and his relationship with El grows into a romantic one once she is an adult.

-El says yes to Henry's offer to join him, and a very slow burn romance happens only once El is an adult.

-Time travel!

These are just a few of the many reasons we ship Henry and El:

-Henry sees himself reflected in El. In a sense, they are two parts of a whole. The only one who can understand the other. Huge Reylo vibes here.

-They have gone through similar pain and abuse, but they have come out with opposite views on the world. Dark vs Light, Yin vs Yang, need I say more?

-Henry had no real need for El to join him, other than some deep part of him wanting connection, partnership, and understanding.

-He has a canon obsession with her. He claims in season 3 (if we assume Billy is possessed by Henry/Vecna) that he has been building the UD for her. Yes, perhaps for revenge, but there is a fine line between love and hate, eh?

-He literally became a monster without her. She was his last hope, his last attempt to reach out to another person, and she rejected him (we aren't saying she did the wrong thing lol).

-He has a continuous tenderness for/with her, even when it no longer serves him to do this for manipulation purposes (i.e. Henry as Vecna)

-His obsession with stroking her face??

Our main point: If we imagine all the events of Season 4 took place between an adult El and an adult Henry, would we not see the potential romantic subtext here?

We want a life of healing and love for Henry. We believe that a large portion of his anger, violence, and nihilism comes from how people have continuously rejected him. If El had said yes, we believe the partnership and family she would have given him would have greatly tamed and diminished his world domination plans.

We just want them happy together, okay? 😭

Anyway, we hope you join us! You are even welcome to disagree and tell us about how you view Henry and El's relationship. We would never attack you for your views, so please don't attack us for ours.

I've always found El and Henry's dynamic so engaging. They are literally the same person but are each others' foils at the same time. I mean it's impossible to not ship them, even if you don't see them from a purely romantic perspective, they still have that special bond that only exists between them. The Duffers also kinda played into that 'dark territory' regarding their dynamic, at least imho. They are paralleled to Beauty and the Beast (the whole rose glass thing is not something you can miss) El was specifically tied to there by Henry. It's also obvious Henry feels/felt a special attachment and bond toward El, he approached her, became her first friend and even intended to escape with her. I mean, there was no reason for him to ask that to her yet he did. Her rejection scared him forever. That's some tragic cruel fate right there, to be denied and rejected by the person you cared the most and saw yourself in? Narratively they are created for each other, their stories cannot exist without the other and from the start they've always been connected. There's so much stuff to say and analyze about them.

Most definitely! Like I noticed the stained glass rose from the start and immediately thought of Beauty and the Beast. I still wonder who made that decision because they had to have known exactly what they were doing. I definitely think El was Henry's last hope and he let the darkness inside himself overtake his entire being when she sent him to the Upside Down. They're soulmates, though, and deserve better than the fate show!canon has given them. It's devastating.

El and Henry, if they had been the same age in the lab, would have become amazing friends. I'm certain. This is canon.

If Henry had to be couped up in a house/cabin somewhere (preferably with El as company), what hobbies do you think he would get into to pass the time(sfw)? I don't see him watching TV unless El wants to, but aside from taking care of spiders, I could see him gardening; growing flowers because El likes them/growing veggies so he wouldn't feel as dependent on food deliveries, even from his allies. What do you think?

Reading, too, but yeah, I can go with gardening, especially if it's something El enjoys.

Am I the only one who found 001’s interactions with Eleven pretty sus even after he got Vecna’d?

There was a lot of creepily getting up close and stroking her face, she managed to pull his attention away from the kill simply by trying to appeal to his humanity even if it didn’t work, and he still admits he sees her as like him - different and special compared to humanity (even though he’s pissed about her ‘betrayal’).

Like…there is a dynamic there.

fr!! it mirrors the beauty/beast trope far too well for it to be coincidental imo. while i don't think the duffers are trying to make 001011 seem romantic, i do think that they use a lot of gothic heroine tropes for eleven throughout the show (im sorry i keep talking about gothic tropes but it's the english major in me i think) and this fits with the whole "join me" speech in volume 1 that we see a lot in conjunction with fantasy tropes! even that Special Connection El has with Henry in the upside down even though vecna has done all these terrible things is just so personal and despite everything, she still feels for him; they're bound by what they both suffered together. and now that she's older, she gets it. she understands. it's eleven trying to reach out this time, and that says a lot.

How do you think Henry's character will be written in S5? Some people have been speculating that he might get a 'redemption' right before he dies, and I also think that would be a better ending for his character too. I'd like to see El trying to reach to Henry for the last time and be there for him when he dies? What do you think?

That's such a great question! Based on the direction TFS took Henry's character, it really does seem like they are going for some sort of redemption. Or, at least, a super tragic character arc? I also see it like you do, that El and Henry could come to understand each other and team up against the mind flayer. It could give Henry's arc closure. I def don't see a way for Henry to not die, though, which is very sad, but i understand.
