International Self Care Day will be celebrated on July 24 2023. This year the focus is on #selfcareliteracy as a tool to empowerment for people and value to healthcare.

To make sure you are taking the time you need for yourself, self-care can be as simple as going outside and enjoying nature or as involved as reading a book that inspires you. Right now, self-care is more important than ever. Never feel guilty if you need to take some time for yourself, even if it’s just sipping your morning coffee outside while listen to a simple music.

Tonight, self-care was a boudoir photo shoot, courtesy of Sarah Haugen. One of my paramours has been asking for spicy photos for two decades and I was never comfortable with them existing, let alone distributing them. He remains one of the few I’d trust with any, and we’ve often discussed over the years a film-based photo shoot (no digital photos!!).

I’m still not necessarily going to share them with anyone (despite the distressingly full “hidden” album on my phone) but I looked at them and saw someone sexy. And that’s new for me.

Argyle (In what he thinks is a whisper, leaning over to Jonathan): Are we allowed to ask questions?

Will(Pinching the bridge of his nose, and wondering why he thought this was a good idea): What is it, Argyle?

Argyle: How old's this elf dude, again?

Will: Well. He said he lead this faction of high elves in a secession from their homeland- and since this is basic history in this world, your character would know that happened 300 years ago. So he's over 300.

Argyle: Are his teeth real?

Will(Blankly): Are his- teeth...?

Argyle: I mean, like- you said he's like 300. People can live for a long time, you keep a good lifestyle, avoid stress, eat your veggies- but teeth don't usually last as long as the rest of you. Like, my Abuelita's pushing 90-

Jonathan(Squinting): Your what?

Argyle(Remembering who he's talking to): My GRANNY'S pushing 90- and she's already got a full set of fakes. Even if this guy's got good genes, they can't ALL be real, right?

Jonathan(Attempting to steer things back to Will's control): Well, it's like- it's fantasy, man. It doesn't have to be totally realistic, elves can have magic, so their teeth are probably-

Will(At this point ready to make whatever sacrifices necessary to just end the discussion and move on): Elves have super advanced dentistry. They've invented fillings made of moon silver, they last forever, so if they fuck their teeth up they can just fix them.

Argyle(Delighted): No shit? That's rad as hell, wish I had something like that.

Will(Dryly): Don't we all. Anyway-

[Several sessions later, during the party's final battle with the BBEG]

Will(In character as a high elf warlord attempting to wipe out all non-elves on the continent): Your struggle is pointless. Why do you fight so hard to survive? To what end? Even if you survived me, in a few short years, you would grow old and feeble, your pitiable, limited bodies withering away to nothing. Your eyesight fades. Your joints go weak. The injuries that the elf heals from haunt the likes of you forever. I offer you the gift of a swift death, taking you from this world before your own nature betrays you to do the deed itself- and you deny me. You deny YOURSELF. What could possibly move you to go on?

[Argyle slowly raises his hand]

Will(Trying to ignore him before realizing that Argyle's character is next in initiative, and that he HAS to acknowledge whatever the guy's about to say): WHAT, Argyle?

Argyle: So, like... this elf dude.

Will(Massaging his temples): Fethrethriel.

Argyle(Handing him a tissue good naturedly): Bless you.

Will(Staring at the tissue he took on reflex in disbelief): I wasn't-

Argyle(Pushing forward): So, he's like... what, 300? 400?

Will(Knowing full well that Fethrethriel mentioned in his opening monologue that he was over 500 years old and deciding that reminding Argyle of this is a lost cause): A little older, but something like that.

Argyle(Nodding): Rad. So he's already hella fuckin old. And on top of that he's like- kind of a rough dude? Like, he likes to get up close n personal, none of that 'You can fight my soldier buddies while I watch' shit, he fights his own fights and he plays dirty.

Will: Sure?

Argyle: So if he got hurt doing it, he gets that fancy elf-healthcare-

Jonathan(Reflexively): Elfcare.

[Will shoots him an aggrieved look while Argyle starts wheezing. Jonathan has the grace to look mildly ashamed of himself.]

Argyle(Pulling himself together): But like- he's been punching, and getting punched, and gettin shit knocked off of him from time to time, and replacing anything that stops working or gets damaged with elf prosthetics for years.

Will: I guess.

Argyle: Probably got hit in the mouth once or twice?

[El, who has been silent throughout this line of questioning, suddenly sits up straight as she realizes where this is going]

Will: Probably?

Argyle(Nodding, as though getting something confirmed): Gotcha. Then I'm gonna cast...

[He briefly checks his spell list]

Argyle(Looking back up): ...Heat Metal.

“will meets eddie and plays dnd with him” yes sure great love it, but also consider: will dms a dnd game and argyle joins. and he’s never played dnd before but he is SO good at it he blows everyone out of the water with his strange argyle wisdom and roleplaying
