I've been driving my 2011 Mazda since I bought it new for about thirteen years now, and after a spate of issues in the past year I knew it's time was coming to an end:

My stereo system crapped out in the summer of 2016 and I've been driving in silence ever since

Perpetual leak in the rear passenger tire was giving me a low tire pressure warning about once every other week (more often in the winter) so I was constantly topping it off

The entire chassis rattled violently when I decelerated coming off of a highway and into an exit

A really loud screeching sound rang out whenever I accelerated uphill and was going between 40-50 mph

The rear driver side wheelwell had a gnarly rattle on anything but the smoothest of roads

Part of the dashboard literally melted and separated from the rest of the car

Rear-view mirror was warped

A lot of this stemmed from an incident in late '22 when I went too long without getting an oil change, which seized the engine and led to a really long process to get a replacement engine installed. When I learned that full electric cars didn't need oil changes and had less maintenance overall, that got my attention and kinda guided my decision towards considering one for my next car.

“Ride or Die” is a punk-rock band consisting of Clarisse, Beckendorf, Silena, Connor, and Travis. They started playing during highschool, but didn’t get famous until their sophomore year at college. A year later, they got a record deal at Lyre Records.

CLARISSE;

-The lead singer.

-Like, she might not be the nicest person ever, but her vocals are FIRE

-Was actually taught to sing to classical music, but when she was 13, she discovered Punk-Rock, and she’s never looked back.

-The red bandana is her brand. Even in fancy parties she’ll somehow have it incorporated into her outfit.

- Has several thirst-traps of her and beckendorf circling around social media.

- Her voice is so growly and shouty, but her vibrato makes it to where-UGH she’s so good.

- Shes currently dating a cameraman named Chris.

- Shes known Silena ever since 4th grade, so they’re really tight knit.

-To the point where all their fans think they’re dating lmao.

BECKENDORF;

- He’s basically the main vocalist too?

-Clarisse and him sing background for each other, and they switch who sings songs all the time.

-Basically the Dóberman of the band

-in the way that he looks super intimidating, but he’s actually so sweet and polite.

-Never had voice lessons until he joined the band.

-It was great before but now it’s BETTER.

- He used to post covers on YouTube that are still floating around. He cringes when it comes on his page lmao.

- His Mom actually helped get them out there, since she owns a relatively popular radio station.

- The only person who’s allowed to pick on his band mates are him.

SILENA;

-Shes the lyricist, but she also serves as the guitarist.

-Shes always written songs-ever since 2nd grade.

-Gets most of the flack online out of all the band members, because she’s very feminine so people are always arguing she seems out of place with the rock regime the band have going on.

-She pays no attention.

-Just to spite them she’ll wear the most girly outfit ever with punk accessories.

-Petty is her middle name btw.

-Learned acoustic guitar from her Uncle, then when she got into rock, switched to electric guitar.

-Nicest, sweetest person you’ll ever meet.

-Every fan who visits her loves her immediately.

-Wears lots of different vintage hairstyles(victory rolls, an updo, fluffy starlet hair etc)

CONNOR;

-Everyone is constantly getting him and his brother mixed up all the time.

-Anyways, he’s the drummer.

-He was the most hyperactive kid ever, so to stop him from going to Paris and back every time he turned around, his Dad gave him a junior drum set when he was eight.

-He’s never looked back since.

- Is the comedian of the group.

- Pulls random people from the crowd to do stupid shit during their concerts.

-LIVES for crowd participation.

-Has a weenie dog named Frank and he always jokes that he’s their unofficial mascot.

- Certified t-shirt cannon dealer. Every show.

- Lightens the mood whenever things get depressing.

-Says the most random, out of pocket shit that has nothing to do with anything in the conversation.

TRAVIS;

-the keytarist

-He makes all the special effects for their shows.

-He also deals with the merch because he likes making shit.

-Plays all sorts of practical pranks on his band mates, and the audience.

-The fuck boy of the band sort of? He’s known for getting with lots of people because he’s hot with commitment issues.

-Wears the most explicitly dumb shirts ever.

- Can be sweet at times though.

-For example, he’s the one who suggested the band name, because Clarisse, Silena, Connor, and Beckendorf were his “ride or die” people.

-Has a bird named Mr.Parrot

-Even though it’s not a parrot.

-He’s at home though, because Travis would never DARE to make him go on tour with him. Poor baby would be so crowded.

Disclaimer: Listen. Don't come at me. I haven't even read Queen of the Damned. I hadn't been planning on writing any fic for these two in the first place. Then I remembered Henning May's cover of The Needle and the Damage Done and something possessed me right in the middle of an online class and uh. This happened. (Whether or not you read this, definitely listen to that cover. Because like. Damn.)

I may have taken significant creative liberties with how it feels to drink vampire blood.

Still in pretty rough shape, I might try to neaten it up, continue it, and post it on AO3 eventually. For now, though, it's gonna live here. Enjoy some fucked up power dynamics and a junkie not-quite-realizing that he's bitten off more than he can chew.

The first time he drank of the blood, he knew he had crossed a line.

Up until then, it had been just another thing to try, just another probably-dumb idea. Dumber than his usual, maybe, sure, but at the end of the day just another step down his not-so-slow but mundanely steady path of self-destruction.

The instant the first drop slides down his throat, he feels the ground disappear beneath him and knows he’s reached that path’s end. What he thought was just another step turned out to be a plummet off the edge of the cliff he always knew, but never truly believed was there.

And then it’s too late.

He grabs Armand’s wrist, drags it to his mouth with more desperation and naked need than he’s ever felt drinking from a bottle, be it liquor or milk. He barely catches the flicker of cold amusement from the creature he does not yet realize he has just become wholly reliant on. For this, he cannot find another dealer. He can’t drop to his knees in the right club bathroom for another hit. Now, to a deeper degree than he even knew was possible, he is an owned thing.

For the moment, though, he isn’t thinking about this. He isn’t thinking about anything at all, everything beyond the instinct to drink, drink, drink stripped from him. He is too far gone to be ashamed of the mewling whimper he lets out when the source of the blood is ripped away from him. He turns his eyes up, wet, pleading, to those of his new master and finds a glinting smile.

“That’s enough for now, boy,” he says. Daniel blinks, slowly, an electric feeling starting to spark its way through his body. Neuron by neuron, his brain begins to come back to life.

“For now,” he repeats hoarsely. “We can do this again?” It’s a moot question. If the answer is no, Daniel will die. That doesn’t feel like melodrama, it feels like simple fact.

“If you’re good,” Armand says, buttoning the cuff of his shirtsleeve.

“Anything,” Daniel breathes. “Armand— I— anything.” Daniel tries to crawl toward Armand on the bed, but abruptly, his tingling arms give out from under him and he falls, landing face-first on the sheets in front of where Armand sits cross-legged. Before he can roll over so he can breathe, Armand’s hand lands in his hair, pressing his face harder into the mattress. Daniel doesn’t resist. Right now, breathing seems superfluous to Armand’s hand on him, Armand’s blood in him.

You’ll never leave me now, will you? he hears in his head. Stars swirling behind his eyes, he shakes his head as best he can. He tries to open his mouth to reply, but the pressure against his face is too great and he can’t draw breath to speak anyway. Instead he thinks, as hard as he can,

No. No. Never. I’ll never leave you, never, never, never— Things are getting hazy, now—maybe vampire blood doesn’t actually absolve a human of his need for oxygen—but even as he begins to lose feeling in his extremities, still all his thoughts are occupied by that one-worded mantra, repeated like a prayer. The stars flashing behind his closed eyelids are blinking out one by one when abruptly the hand against his head yanks him up by the hair. He heaves in a gasp of air, the room suddenly very bright, every desperate inhale carrying sharper, more intense scents than he’s ever experienced before.

“All right,” murmurs Armand, effortlessly flipping Daniel onto his back, stroking his hair as he pants. “All right. How do you feel?”

Daniel blinks up at Armand’s upside-down face. “I… I can hear a woman on the street hushing her baby. She’s speaking… Serbian, I think? Something Slavic. And the Nuts4Nuts guy—he’s just put a fresh batch of peanuts on to roast. I can smell them. Armand,” Daniel says urgently. “Armand, the window’s closed. The window’s closed and we’re on the seventh floor.”

Armand smiles indulgently down at him. “And so we are.”

Daniel closes his eyes and takes another breath. “Is this what it’s like for you all the time?”

All of a sudden, the electricity sparking through his veins meets oxygen and is set ablaze. He leaps off the bed, energy pulsing through him. “Is this how you feel all the time?,” he repeats excitedly. “God, no wonder food tastes like nothing to you—what could compare to this?” Daniel bounces on his feet a few times, then reaches out to yank on Armand’s wrist. “Come on, let’s go!”

Armand arches an eyebrow at him. Pulling on him is like pulling stone. “Go?”

“Yes, come on, let’s go out! Let’s go chase down some dumb guy or get in a bar fight or steal a painting or—or—or anything, let’s just go!” Daniel’s bouncing from foot to foot now, all but running in place. The energy thrumming through him is easily equal to any coke high he’s experienced, and usually he wouldn’t hesitate to strike out on his own at this point, burn that energy off however he saw fit. But somehow the only thing worse than staying still right now is the thought of being away from Armand. Armand, who looks from where Daniel is pulling ineffectively at his wrist to Daniel’s slightly manic grin with a deeply unimpressed expression.

“You’re forgetting your manners, I think,” he says softly. “Is this how you show me your gratitude?”

Daniel drops his hand as if burned. “No, I—I’m sorry—I—I only meant—”

Armand tsk’s softly. Daniel feels it like a knife in his chest.

“I know just what you meant, child. You think I can’t find sufficient outlet for the ancient energy in your veins here, in this apartment? In this very room?”

Golden eyes bore into him, and Daniel finds his sense of fear has been intensified along with everything else. He stops bouncing, trains his eyes on the ground, not daring to meet the deceptively soft gaze of the predator that owns him.

“Of—of course. I mean, what… what would you like to do?”

Silence. Daniel risks glancing up. The danger has dissolved from Armand’s face, replaced by a fond smile.

“Oh my darling boy.” A hand caresses Daniel’s cheek. “Why don’t we go out?”

Good gnus bad gnus time.

I pulled an all nighter earlier this week and knocked out the finale for CDE. All totalled it's like 13 or 14 chapters plus an epilogue. It was def a labor of love and I'm glad to be done with it. Now I can go back to writing other topics that people enjoy.

Life update: everything's fucked.

The parentals have been dragging me out of bed early all week with random demands. Drive my mom to the doctor. Deal with a repair guy they hired but weren't able to be there for the visit. Sometimes they just call me at ass early o clock to tell me to wake up because no one should sleep so late even tho I sleep so late because nighttime is the only time I feel safe to be active. It's when I do all my writing and gaming because a) work actually leaves me alone and b) I don't (normally) have family barging into my room without knocking at 3 am.

I'm currently kinda stressed about funds ATM. I blew all my savings and my last months paycheck repairing my car. Over the past few months I've been sinking more and more money into it to get it running. What started as a small warning light Digivolves into needing massive electrical work.as well as getting the entire ABS system replaced. All totaled I spent over 10k on it. I did some shopping for a new(?) Car but with interests rates as they are most dealers were offering 15% apr which is insane. So I decided to get my car running and see if I can keep it alive long enough for the market to turn around.

The good gnus is that I got it running and it seems to be working fine. Just in time for me to have to go on a road trip for work which will require me having to pay for mileage and room and board out of pocket with the hopes of maybe getting refunded some of it.

On top of that I've been paying for more and more stuff for work out of pocket with the promise that I will be reimbursed, but there's no telling when or if that will happen. So there's a few k there. Also my work hasn't paid me for May yet because the big boss is upset about the way the sites are being run and has not approved payroll until he finishes his inspection which will take a few weeks.

On top of this, I had a $3k tax bill due which I paid back in April. In may the gummint sent me almost all of it back as a tax refund. I used this money to pay for the aforementioned car. Earlier this month they sent me a notice saying that the refund was an error and now I owe all the money they refunded plus late fees and interest for not paying my taxes on time.

This is all on the tail end of surviving the semester from hell. I can't remember if I mentioned this here but I was in a class that the one entire course was structured around "group work". Well I got stuck with a group that didn't do anything and so I had to do it all by myself. I did the work of five people while holding down a full time job+.

Anyways on the writing front. I have a few chapters of CDE to post and a new Lumen chapter. But I realize those stories arent the kinda thing my core audience cares about. I've been struggling to find the time and energy to actually post anything because even after I finish writing and edits it's still at least an hour of work to format stuff for html and then share them online.

Below are some quick details about this fae....

The name that he legally goes by is kim yonghwa, but it is not his true name. that has been lost to the ages and something he has yet to speak to anyone that is still alive into this century. Commonly, among other immortals, he prefers to go by ghost. A nickname that he has had for centuries and he is more comfortable with it.

Ghost is a man of few words. Due to the nature of fae, he is careful with words when he speaks. More often than not he chooses to say nothing rather than struggle with making sure what he is going to say is carefully truthful. Commonly he is blunt to the point of cruel at times and often crass. But the silence is more common than anything. Often communicating with his eyes and face more or a non-committal ‘mmm.’ To acknowledge that he is listening.

His gift is that of water, due to his age, well over 1,000 years old, he has a strong control and understanding with his element. He does not often speak of it, but he could be found close to the sea. The biggest body of water around the island. Storms for the island crops are very common due to him paying attention to when it is needed and when it isn’t. ghost is careful with using his natural gift but when pushed, he could make the ocean roar to even greater heights if he wished.

As kim yonghwa, he works at the local university. A history teacher. His specialties are the old kingdoms and wars that took place. Not just wars in korea, but around the world. Unknown to most, unless they had seen his collection, he is always an antique dealer and finding. Specifically, he haunts down weapons of all times and sells them or trades them for other things. The wall of his office lined with various blades and items that once were used to fight in some battle or another.

Ghost doesn’t totally keep up with the times. While he finally has electricity in his beach side home, he doesn’t often use it. Preferring to use flame to get things done. Candles for light. Fire to heat water and cook. There is only one room in his home that the electricity is utilized and that is the office he put together for potential online courses he may have needed to teach. It is decorated with items that clearly speak of who he is and what he teaches.

Most often, friends are far and few between. He has grown far too used to those he befriends dying. For some time, there has been an effort to not get attached to those that could die. Due to his more solemn nature, he doesn’t often get along with the younger fae or most fae in general. Still, he tends to find himself paying attention to them. If they were to ask for help, he would be hard pressed to ignore it. The few friends he does make and keep, he would do violent things for if required. 

Teaching has only come up recently, within the last two years. previously he was a bit of a hermit among the folks around him. His glamour always tight across his skin and not moving. He looks rather warm and calm under that guise. Shaggy dark brown hair and soothing eyes. Nothing like his true form that he hasn’t shown in sometime time, to anyone.

He has only been on the isle since the late 1800s. before than he travelled the world. Seeing people, he had never seen and learning languages he had never known. While there are some things in history he has had to relearn over time. His memory has never been totally perfect, languages are something that have always seem to stick. Each one unique and over time, they have become something he truly enjoys knowing and using when possible.

For those that are immortal and older, they could have potentially run into each other previously. Ghost has been around for over 1,000 years and has travelled much if not all of the world. It allows for a lot of possibilities when it comes to meeting other immortals. Also, these immortals are more likely to have seen his true form which is something we can totally talk about if this happens in our plotting! 

For those that are young, since he has been on Jeju since the late 1800s, there is a chance that he has been there the entire time they have. For a good portion of that time, he was much more a hermit than an active member of society but there were would have been times someone could have caught him the ocean or enjoying a good rainy day. In truth, he wouldn’t have spoken to them much at first, but over time, would probably warm up. 

For any university students, this would be your well known history professor. a man you would know as kim yonghwa. He is known as a good teacher. passionate. But times he has put a lightning strike of fear into people due to his incredibly blunt nature and intense stare. Even with all of that, he is known to have open doors to his office and is willing to work with people when need be. Just need to  be brave enough to approach him. 

For those involved in the conflict, Ghost is known to be a very neutral party. It isn’t often he will even allow conversation of the conflict if they are trying to get him to do something within it. But, he has been paying attention, despite his want to keep his nose out of it. He came to this island for peace and quiet. Not something that the conflict fosters. It worries him...
