The Things Humans Come Up With (Ft. Beelzebub and GN!MC)
Warnings: Romantic relationships implied
Word count: 0.7k
A/N: Hi :D It's been a while, Character AI sort of took over my life, but I'm back now! There was this one scene from Obey Me! where the boys were absolutely baffled by human technology (like an ice cream maker), so that's kind of where the idea for this story came from. I hope you like it :D
I don't think this story requires many warnings, but if I should add one please let me know!
-Ethereal ^J^
Story below, please don't claim as your own!
Using your spatula, you carefully lifted up the bread to check the color. Nope, not quite ready yet. You put the lid back over the pan, opting to check your phone while you waited for your grilled cheese to finish cooking. You were idly scrolling through Devilgram when you caught something moving out of the corner of your eye. You glanced up, seeing Beel standing sheepishly in the doorway.
"Whatever you're cooking smells really good..." He started, shyly fidgeting with his hands.
"Thanks!" You told him
He took a few uncertain steps, and you swear you could hear his stomach growling. "I haven't eaten since Fangol practice..."
"No?" You asked. You knew what he was hinting at, but it was hard not to tease him on the rare occasion he was shy.
“Y-Yeah…and…dinner isn’t for a while…”
“No, it isn’t,” you agreed.
"Your food smells really yummy..." He gave you a pitiful look as his stomach growled, much noisier this time.
You smiled internally, finally giving in. "Beel, did you want me to make you some too?"
He lit up immediately, nodding. "Yes, please!
You smiled, nodding as you pulled out a few more slices of bread and set to work.
"What are you making, anyways?" Beel asked, coming over to lean against the counter.
"They're grilled cheeses," you answered.
"What are those?"
You nearly dropped the bread in your hand. "You don't know what a grilled cheese is?!"
Beel shook his head. "We don't have those here. It's a human food, I'm guessing?"
Man, culture shock still hit you hard sometimes.
"Yeah. It's like a cheese sandwich, but the bread is crispy, and the cheese is melted. You can put things like meat or eggs in them, too, but that's more of a panini at that point."
"Can you make those too?" Beel asked.
"Not today, but next time it's my turn to make breakfast, okay?"
He nodded enthusiastically and watched as you began to fry up his sandwiches. "You humans always come up with the neatest things," Beel commented.
“Yeah?” You asked.
"Yeah! Like, I heard you guys have a thing that turns food into drinks!"
"A...a what?" You asked.
"Yeah! Like, the thing where you put fruits into the cup with milk, and the magic turns it into a drink!"
"The...Oh, you mean a blender!" You exclaimed.
"Yeah, a blender!" He repeated, as if trying to commit it to memory. "And what's that thing called where there are little cages at the end that spin around really fast?"
"Uh..."
"I've seen them use it on human cooking shows," Beel explained patiently. "You plug it in, then sometimes the little cages spin too fast and goop ends up everywhere."
"Oh!" You snapped your fingers. "That's called an electric whisk. Sometimes people call it a beater.”
"I will say, I don't really like the thing that makes the bread stale."
"The toaster?" You guessed, and felt oddly proud when he nodded.
"Yeah, it just makes it super dry. I'll eat it if I get hungry enough, but it's not my favorite."
"I can't believe you don't like toast," you said. "What did you put on it?"
He paused. "...What?"
"What did you put on the toast after you toasted it?"
"...You're supposed to put something on it?"
“I mean, yeah.”
“…Like what?” He asked.
“I dunno, butter usually? Any spreadable condiment, really.”
“…That makes sense,” Beel admitted. “I’ll have to try that next time.”
You giggled, nodding. “Maybe, yeah.”
You plated all the sandwiches and sliced them each in half, then motioned for Beel to join you.
You didn’t have to ask him twice; he took his seat and grabbed one of the sandwiches.
He took a bite, and his eyes widened. “Mmph!” He exclaimed. “I’mph sho goom!”
You laughed. “What?”
He swallowed, smiling. “It’s so good!” He repeated. He reached for another slice, then suddenly snapped his fingers. “I know!” He exclaimed, grinning at you.
“Know…know what?” You asked.
“I know the best thing that humans have ever come up with,” Beel explained.
“Oh, yeah?” You laughed. “Is it grilled cheeses, because I don’t know if I’d ag-“
“It’s you,” he interrupted.
“A-Ah…” You blushed, staring at the table. He could be so dang sweet sometimes.  When you looked up, you caught him smirking at you for a split second.
He knew exactly what he was doing.

Can't believe I had to scroll all the way down to find some common sense. If you're moving out and living on your own for the first time, and assuming you at the very least have a stove in your new house/dorm (maybe even an oven)... I for the life of me cannot understand why you would purchase a damned air fryer or rice cooker before you get a microwave to heat up leaftovers (or quickly warm up a liquid that doesn't need to be boiled, like water or milk for instant coffee or something; or quickly cook up pre made food in a possible oven mode it might have; or quickly speed up defrost if it has a defrost mode; microwaves nowadays do a lot of shit for convenience, even if they do so in a mediocre manner. But you just moved out, you're looking for utility, not luxury).
When you move out, unless you have a lot of spare money, live in a place where it's extremely common for households to have a rice cooker (so: cultural factor), or you have an extremely busy life... Just make the rice on the stove. You don't need a bulky machine for it. Just use the stove. You can get a rice cooker later if you really want it. It's not an important first time living alone purchase. Rice takes ten minutes to cook unless you're cooking for a lot of people.
Air fryer? If you have an oven, or even a toaster oven, there's no reason for you to get an air fryer off the bat. Unless you're on a very specific diet that requires the type of thing an air fryer can do (or your house has no oven), I think this is... A very unnecessary and bulky purchase for when you just moved out. No one was talking about air fryers ten years ago. Hell, five years ago. You do not need this if you have an oven. Hell, I don't have an oven yet, and I do just fine without an air fryer.
Panini press grill things are cheap, I'll give you that. But let us be real. I own one of those I brough from home while moving out and 1) Most people don't use them often because they feel lazy to clean it up; and 2) is that really an important first appliance purchase? I guess you can use it as a toaster while having the benefit of it doing more than a toaster, and it is very cheap if you get a smaller sized one, but... Again. Why are we recommending a panini press before a microwave? Or a vacuum cleaner?
Electric kettle is a good and reasonable advice. You can also get one of those cheap iron pots for the stove, or a regular kettle, but electric ones get the job done AND don't waste gas if your stove is gas fueled (electricity is cheaper than gas).
This last reblog before mine voiced my thoughts on the coffee. I'll just add you can be a lazy cheap fuck and drink instant coffee, which is weaker but only requires hot water or milk (hot, not even boiled). This is an advice for those who drink coffee once a week but feel like they need an appliance for it: you don't. There's more important things. Don't buy a coffee appliance right away if you don't actually drink coffee.
Above all else, purchase what you know you will use. Again, if you're used to using a rice cooker, make a shit load of rice to eat, or have zero time to wait by the stove, sure get a rice cooker first. I was making fun of the air fryer, but if you have no oven or genuinely eat a lot of food that can be cooked in it, sure get it first. If you just haaaatee using microwaves sure heat up everything in the stove or oven. Adapt your purchases to your needs.
If you want my advice... Get your basics before you think of expensive or even medium priced appliances. Get your cleaning supplies, your kitchen pots, your towels and kitchen rags, and then think about everything listed here. Don't waste money on any of this before you have a broom and at least one frying pan and one pot for the love of god.
Kitchen appliances I would recommend purchasing when moving out on your own:
Air fryer
One of those panini press grill things (not only can you make sandwiches but you can grill chicken and steak if you have an expensive model)
Rice cooker (not only good for rice but quinoa and any other grain, alternatively you could buy an Instapot)
Electric kettle (depends on how much tea you drink but it’s good for boiling water for cleaning and preheating water for pasta etc)
Kitchen appliances I would not recommend buying when you move out on your own:
Counter top coffee maker (you should not be drinking an entire pot of coffee on your own and it will be stale by the time you get to the bottom, plus these bitches suck to clean, Keurigs, French presses and stove top percolators where you make one or two cups at a time are more practical for a single person)

MERROCK TASK #3 THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF WINTER
let’s start with an easy one… how does your character feel about winter? Lena loves winter! Although she is definitely more of a summertime girl, once the snow starts to fall and she can wear warm, cozy clothes, she really finds the joy in the season.
are they more of an indoor, by the fire or outside, running wild kind of winter person? Outside, running wild just so she can come indoors, warming up on the couch with a heavy blanket and a cup of cocoa in hand.
speaking of the fire, do they have any fireplaces in their home? Just a cute little electric one that's more for looks than anything. But it helps make the home cozy!
what is your character’s go-to outfit when they are heading outside for a day in the snow and wind? If she's going out to 'play' in the snow, Lena is not against putting on a snow suit, because why not? But if she's just going to be out and about, skinny jeans, a very warm sweater, an even warmer coat, gloves, a beanie, a very long, very thick scarf, and of course, warm boots.
and what about food, is there a comfort food they have to warm themselves up? Queso and chips, grilled cheese and tomato soup, chicken noodle soup, paninis... anything warm.
what drink just screams ‘it’s the winter holidays’ to them? Cocoa!
when there’s a snow day, what is your character’s favorite thing to do outside? Picking up Marisol and building snowmen in the yard.
how about inside, something they do to occupy themselves? Inside, probably crafts. Lena loves making Christmasy, wintry crafts and watching movies.
and what about the crazy nights when the power goes out – how do they handle themselves in that situation? She's actually very resourceful! She'll find all the candles, set them up around the house where they'll be safe from, ahem, Pepper. Gather up warm blankets, make sure to find the bottled water that she needs, and just bunker down and wait.
what does your character do to warm up after a cold day outside? First things first, take a hot bath or a warm shower, and get the body temperature where it needs to be. Then change into warm, cozy clothes, get under a blanket, and drink a warm bevvie.
moving into the holidays… what winter holidays does your character celebrate? Christmas!
how does their upbringing shape the way that they celebrate the holidays? For the most part, Elena's parents based their celebration of the holiday around the children and what they would want. That means that they do a lot of the traditional American Christmas things. There are some things -- foods, songs, movies, story times -- that she has picked up from her abuela.
what is their absolute favorite part of the holiday season? Spending time with her family.
do they have a least favorite part? something that they dread? ... also spending time with family, her sister can be a lot.
when it comes to decorating, what’s their style? do they go all in, or do they keep it easy? Definitely more of a 'go all in' kind of person. Lena wouldn't say that she overdoes it, per se, but her house becomes a winter wonderland, and you have to keep up with the neighbors when it comes to decorating outside when you live in Lupine Lane!
if a tree is part of their holiday traditions, do they get a live one, or haul the artificial out of storage? Artificial tree. It's just a lot easier and there is much, much less of a chance for spiders.
does your character get together with family on the big day? Lena plans on visiting her abuela first and foremost, with her mother, father, sister and niece, and then spending the day at her house afterwards with the aforementioned people.
time to give some gifts – how does your character do with wrapping gifts? does everything go in bags, or are they meticulous with paper and bows? Oh, very, very meticulously wrapped! Lena's always careful to make sure that her gifts look perfect when she hands them over to someone.
and the gift themselves, do they tend to go with homemade things, or splurge and spend a pretty penny on presents? That depends! She doesn't spend a ton of money on gifts, since money isn't everything, but she also has handmade gifts to give to people if she feels that it's something they'd like. Truly, she just wants to make people happy.
what is the best or most memorable gift that your character has ever received at this time of year? Every gift is memorable in its own way, but the little handmade arts and craft style gifts that she's gotten through Marisol have been her favorite.
getting a little personal, how does your character feel during the holidays? are they they happy and bright type, or do they get a little sentimental? For the most part, happy! A little sentimental, and if she is honest with herself, there's always that touch of sadness that comes with not having her abuela home for the first year, but the holidays are still a happy time, ands he holds on to that.
what is one tradition that your character has to experience for it to finally feel like the holiday season? There's a few things! Changing the sheets on all the bed to flannel Christmas sheets, putting out the holiday candles, walking through Lupine Lane to look at the decorations and, of course, decorating the tree.
how about we talk treats? starting with cookies… what is your character’s favorite kind of cookie this time of year? Ricotta cookies.
if they’re presented with a gingerbread house, how does it turn out? Actually, pretty well! She gets a little silly with them sometimes, but they always look like they're supposed to, and that counts for something.
… and be honest, do they sneak eat some of the pieces? Are they into seasonal candies in general? Everyone sneaks pieces of the candies when they're making houses!
whether they are cooking themselves, or going to a big dinner, what do they want on their plate the day of the big holiday? The usual, traditional kinds of foods! But on Christmas Eve, her family normally makes a big spread of Mexican foods.
do they have a favorite holiday movie? one they know word for word, and will watch over and over again? All of the Rankin Bass movies make Elena feel pretty festive and happy, she has to admit. And she does know a lot of them word for word at this point, too.
how about a favorite holiday song that gets put on repeat? Hard to say no to Mariah Carey's Christmas music, isn't it?
as the end of the year starts rolling in, does your character start feeling sad, or more optimistic for the year ahead? Optimistic for the year ahead! If it was a good year, all the more reason to have been happy. And if it was a bad one, the next might be better.
any new years or new years eve traditions that they feel like they have to do to ring in the new year and say goodbye to the old? Not really! She does participate in the polar plunge and the bonfire to get rid of bad energy, and always goes to whatever party is happening in town, but mostly she just goes with the flow.
lastly… any resolutions for the year ahead? Do more make-up.

Is a Commercial Outdoor Grill Experience Better Than an Indoor One?
Tumblr media
Grilling is a beloved cooking method enjoyed by many. But the debate on whether outdoor grilling is superior to indoor grilling is ongoing. Both have their unique benefits, but which one is truly better? In this blog, I'll summarise the atmosphere, functionality, and overall experience of both options to help you decide for yourself.
The Atmosphere: Outdoor vs Indoor
The atmosphere of a commercial outdoor grill experience can greatly influence the overall experience. Outdoor grilling offers an open, airy environment that many find invigorating. The fresh air, the sounds of nature, and the space to move around contribute to a more relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Cooking outside often feels like a mini getaway, especially in pleasant weather.
On the other hand, indoor grilling provides a controlled environment. This is beneficial during bad weather or in urban settings where outdoor space may be limited. Indoor grills allow you to enjoy grilled food all year round without worrying about the elements. The cosy setting of an indoor kitchen can also create a comfortable cooking experience, free from bugs and outdoor temperature fluctuations.
Space and Capacity
Outdoor grills generally offer more space and capacity than their indoor counterparts. Commercial outdoor grills are designed to handle larger quantities of food, making them ideal for big gatherings, events, or busy restaurant services. The ample space allows for better heat distribution and the ability to cook various dishes simultaneously.
Indoor grills, while more compact, are suitable for smaller gatherings or family meals. They are designed to fit in standard kitchen spaces, which can be a limitation when cooking for larger groups. However, their size makes them easier to store and maintain, which can be a significant advantage for some users.
Cooking Versatility
When it comes to versatility, outdoor grills often have the upper hand. They can accommodate different cooking techniques such as smoking, searing, and slow cooking. Many outdoor grills also come with additional features like rotisseries, side burners, and warming racks, providing more options for culinary creativity.
Indoor grills, although more limited in their capabilities, are still quite versatile. They are great for grilling, panini pressing, and even some baking. Modern indoor grills often come with adjustable temperature controls and removable plates for different cooking styles. While they may not offer the same range of options as outdoor grills, they are sufficient for most everyday grilling needs.
Flavour and Taste
One of the most significant differences between outdoor and indoor grilling is the flavour. Outdoor grills, especially those that use charcoal or wood, impart a unique smoky taste that many people love. This flavour is difficult to replicate with indoor grilling methods. The high heat of outdoor grills also helps to sear the meat, locking in juices and creating a delicious crust.
Indoor grills, while convenient, often lack the ability to provide that distinctive smoky flavour. However, they still produce tasty and evenly cooked food. Some indoor grills use electric or gas heat, which is more consistent and easier to control, ensuring your food is cooked perfectly every time.
Convenience and Accessibility
Convenience is a major factor when choosing between outdoor and indoor grilling. Indoor grills are incredibly convenient as they can be used regardless of the weather and don't require any setup or clean-up outside. They are perfect for quick meals and smaller gatherings.
Outdoor grills, while offering a great experience, can be less convenient. They require more preparation, from setting up the grill to cleaning it afterwards. Weather conditions can also be a limiting factor. However, for those who enjoy the process of grilling and the outdoor experience, these considerations might be part of the charm.
Safety Considerations
Safety is paramount when grilling, and both methods have their risks. Outdoor grills pose the risk of fire hazards, especially if used near flammable materials. Proper handling of charcoal, propane, and open flames is crucial to avoid accidents. Weather conditions such as wind can also affect safety when grilling outside.
Indoor grills eliminate many of these risks but introduce others. Electric grills can overheat, and there is always a risk of electrical faults. Ensuring proper ventilation is also important to avoid smoke build-up and potential carbon monoxide poisoning. Following manufacturer instructions and regular maintenance can mitigate these risks.
Tumblr media
Cost and Investment
The cost of grilling equipment varies widely. Outdoor grills can be quite expensive, especially commercial-grade models. They are a significant investment but can last many years with proper care. The additional accessories and fuel costs (charcoal, propane) can also add up.
Indoor grills are generally more affordable. They have lower upfront costs and don't require additional fuel, making them cheaper to operate. However, their lifespan may be shorter than that of high-quality outdoor grills. Balancing initial costs with long-term use is important when deciding which option is best for you.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Maintaining and cleaning your grill is essential for longevity and hygiene. Outdoor grills require more effort in this area. They need to be cleaned after each use, and parts may need regular replacement. Exposure to the elements can also lead to rust and wear, requiring additional care and storage solutions.
Indoor grills are easier to maintain. Many models come with removable, dishwasher-safe plates, making cleaning a breeze. Since they are used indoors, they are less prone to rust and weather-related damage. Regular wiping and occasional deep cleaning are usually sufficient to keep them in good condition.
Social and Entertainment Value
Grilling is often a social activity, and outdoor grilling excels in this aspect. It brings people together, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere. Outdoor spaces provide room for guests to mingle, play games, and enjoy the surroundings. The act of grilling can become a focal point of the gathering, adding to the enjoyment.
Indoor grilling, while less social, still has its place. It allows for intimate family meals or small gatherings. The controlled environment can make for a more relaxed and comfortable dining experience. While it may not have the same entertainment value as outdoor grilling, it is perfect for cosy and convenient meals.
Final Thoughts
Both commercial outdoor and indoor grilling have their distinct advantages. Outdoor grilling offers a unique atmosphere, larger capacity, and unmatched flavour, making it ideal for social gatherings and events. Indoor grilling provides convenience, safety, and ease of use, perfect for quick meals and smaller groups. The choice ultimately depends on your needs, preferences, and circumstances.
