It isn’t like he’s telling her something she doesn’t know. 

Limbs pinned to the bed, jaw clamped so tightly it’s as though someone has superglued her mouth closed, wide eyes fixed to that figure above her as long, dark tendrils of hair seem to reach down as though to wrap around her and pull her from the bed - Nell knows nightmares, waking and otherwise.

And despite herself - despite knowing that as they’ve grown up she and Steve have come to inhabit opposite ends of the scale when it comes to belief in the supernatural - for a moment, she pretends that this means he believes her.

She wants to curl against him, clinging to her big brother like she’d done so many times when he’d come to find her crying - scaring away Nell’s ghost because that’s what big brothers do. Instead she offers a tight, quick nod as her eyes flick up to meet his.

“Yeah. Yeah, that’s one way of putting it.”

“That’d be telling.” Theo’s smile is small but indulgent as she teases her sister, a gloved hand gesturing for her to sit down. “No, seriously - am I not allowed to want to see my baby sister outside of wedding prep? I just thought it’d be... I don’t know, nice to grab a coffee or something instead of one or both of us being stuck with pins during a fitting, y’know?”
