Mixed Emotions post-Eldercaregiving
God forbid, I'm quoting an article from AARP, but it helped me.
---
"Relief is earned
It's not just that the caregiving work is wearying — especially when it goes on for months and years — but that it often takes caregivers away from other life pursuits of great importance to them. They live in a constant state of tension, comparing who they were and how they spent their days before with the person they've become and the duties that now fill their hours. When those duties end, that tension abates as they contemplate resuming cherished activities and roles they'd set aside."

Caring is considered to be the most important source of portraying love and affection towards an individual. It not only tells someone that they are special to us but also makes us feel how important is that person in our life.

Dementia caregivers manage situations like sleeplessness, sun-downing syndrome, delusions, hallucinations, paranoia, communication gaps, forgetfulness, word repetitions, wandering habits, and many more.
With more and more time spent with the residents, new learning come along every single day.
At Epoch Elder Care the care team tries to accommodate the behavior instead of controlling it.

It’s only been about 10 days and it’s reached a head already. The doctor had warned my wife that her behavior and personality could change. She was always physically abusive to my wife as a child all the way until she was an adult. She stopped violence towards her when she became an adult, but was still continually mentally and emotionally abusive ever since. Her visits were NEVER pleasant, not even once throughout the entire 15 years we’ve been together. Never a kind word, never a sweet or soft moment, never once. Even with ALS and very little remaining physical strength, her demand to continue her compulsive shopping habit got her to get physical with my wife for the first time in the 20 years since escaping to the USA to start a life for herself and pursue her own dreams. My wife is THE most honorable individual I’ve ever known in all my life. She’s such a great daughter to this awful person, even though she’s a vicious tyrant. The lengths to which my wife goes out of her way to please her mother makes me look like a bad son, like one of the Menéndez Brothers. She started hitting my wife, grabbing at her hair, and kicking her to which my wife had to hold her wrists to stop her from beating on her further. I’ve NEVER raised my voice at her but I lost my cool and screamed at her like Yakuza. But remember, this is the woman who picked a fight with a Yakuza gangster over a damn parking space and won. We’re so stressed out right now. ALL the neighbors hate her, by the way. She’s THAT lady, the neighborhood lady nobody likes. But who else is going to take care of her?? My brother in law is a nice enough guy and all, but he’s lacking in human empathy as he may actually have Asperger’s Syndrome and is pretty useless as far as caregiving goes. Your mother’s your mother, what are ya gonna do? #alscaregiving #poisonousmoms #abusivemotherinlaw #violentmothers #mywifedoesntdeservethis #caregiverblues #abusivemothers #hardtimesinjapan #gaveupourlivesforthis #leftlosangelesforthis #ibearwitness #sharingeventhebad #eldercaregiving #violentmotherinlaw #makesmesad #nothingicando #cantevenhelp #allicandoiswatch #gaveupagreatapartmentforthisshit #intensemoment (at Otsu, Shiga) https://www.instagram.com/p/BtvR8FFFzQq/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1p2194jxmav1c
