Unpopular opinion: Pausing in a fromsoftware game is a bad idea but not because of the difficulty
I've been a fromsoft fan for a while and i've seen the discourse for just as long and i just wanna say that besides the challenge debate, more importantly, pausing would take away from the games atmosphere and severity. Game mechanics have been part of the whole experience since forever, the fact that dying is permanent and there's no way to undo that or reload. This applies to the pause. Fromsoft games are about the atmosphere and immersion of being in a death ridden existence with no escape, a truly adrenaline pumping experience where you have to find a grace/bonfire/etc to feel truly safe. Its immersion is aided by the fact that there is no escape. It's a beautiful use of a (lack of) game mechanic to underline its story.
Elden ring or any fromsoft game would be lesser for it if you added a pause, imo.
