i wouldn’t call myself a fan of chappell roan (i just haven’t checked her out in any substantial way to form an opinion on her music), but it’s so funny to me when people try to claim she’s an industry plant because they hadn’t heard about her until she got big. and like,

1. i was seeing posts about her on my dash back in 2022 (and i’ve seen posts about her from as far back as 2020 in her tag)

2. one of my favorite bands is ghost. i first became aware of them back in 2010 when metalheads started to catch wind of them

just like how chappell roan’s first wave of popularity was among queer (and mostly wlw) communities, because you know, a band/artist tends to get popular with a more niche audience first.

and then ghost started getting bigger and bigger until their popularity exploded in 2022 when people started using one of their songs in tiktoks…

which is the same thing that happened to chappell roan. she cultivated a niche, loyal audience, and that audience started using her songs in tiktoks and whatever other social media, which exposed her to people who would not have otherwise heard about her

like, just because you (chappell roan industry plant conspiracist) never heard of her until 2024, doesn’t mean that she hasn’t been cultivating a loyal audience for years
