The basics of the world
my ocâs story takes place in a place called The Nebulix Cluster.
A clusterverse (known colloquially as a âclusterâ) is essentially what is beyond a multiverseâ it is multiple multiverses in a single space. The larger the cluster is, the more likely it is to fall apart. Small cluster range from having about 10-15 trillion multiverses, while average sized clusters have 16-30 trillion, and large clusters contain 31 trillion or more multiverses in them. The largest cluster ever recorded was The Elktos Cluster, clocking in at a whopping 56 trillion multiverses in it.Â
Species and Races
The Nebulix cluster takes on a hierarchal system of power depending on what a person can do within the universe.
Gods: Gods are the genderless, omnipotent beings that preside over the Nebulix Cluster. Each of them presides over a different aspect of the clusterverseâ Creation, destruction, life, death, etc.â and are responsible for everything there. Gods cannot be killed, but their powers and consciousness can be subdued.
Starborns: Starborns are considered minor beings. Not quite as powerful as gods, yet aware of their existence and possess certain abilities mortals do not, such as the ability to shift the climate or weather of a large area, control and summon elements without major drawbacks, etc. Starborns have no definite lifespan. They can be killed, but it is almost impossible to kill them.
Demigods: traditional demigods. The children of mortals and gods or Starborns. Depending on if their godly abilities are recessive genes or not (typically, they are), they may not have any major powers. Typically, this manifests as a stronger resistance to harsher climates, improved strength and endurance, etc. they have a limited lifespan, but live to a much older age than mortals, typically 120-140 years. They age much slower than mortals.
Mortals: any being who is not any of the above mentioned. They can have abilities similar to demigods, but is much rarer. They live, on average, 60-70 years old.
Species
Humans: just your average, everyday human. Can have abilities and/or powers.
Anthromorphs: any animal with human features and intelligence. Essentially, furries.
Inkshifters: beings made of ink with a soul. They can control any kind of ink, shapeshift (to things either with the same or less body mass as them), and create objects out of the ink that composes their body mass.
Hybrids: refers to any individual with more than one speciesâ genetics. Typically, this phrase means anyone who is part Anthoromorph and part human, but it can be a mixture of any of the above.
The Godex
Godex - â(n.) the academic term theologists use (typically in the Nebulix Cluster) to refer to the physical recounts of the gods in Nebulix; derivative from âgodâ and âindexâ.â
âGENERAL RULE OF THUMB FROM THEOLOGISTS: the simpler they appear, the more scared you should be of them.â
Gods are ungendered. They are above the mortal concept of female and male roles and are oftentimes only referred to as they/it.
âThe Double Godâ
Colloquially known as âTwo-headed Godâ or âThe Twinsâ, Actos and Zeptis are the two gods who make up this duo. They respectively represent life and death, the sharing of a single body representing the conceptsâ interdependence, how one cannot exist without the other.Â
Actos represents the chaos and euphoria that comes with life, and Zeptis represents the grief and relief that comes with oneâs death. They are oftentimes mistaken for the gods of Creation and Destruction: Amalthea and Zalros.
(Actos, depicted on the left, Zeptis, depicted on the right)
Amalthea and Zalros
The gods of creation and destruction respectively. Amalthea is theorized to be depicted as a bird because birds are said to represent freedom and the ability to flock among others. Meanwhile, Zalros is depicted as a goat because of goatâs often aggressive nature and solitary lifestyle.
Zeptactos
Colloquially known as âthe creatorâ or âthe divineâ, Zeptactos is the creator of the Nebulix cluster. They are rather apathetic, but that doesnât mean they donât care for their creations.Â
Language
most extra dots have been omitted in more recent era of the Nebulixian language.
however, both dialects are still used pretty prominently in most areas. It entirely depends on what the speaker is intending to convey and to whom.Â
Ancient dialect is used in more formal and academic settings, while modern dialect is used on the everyday.Â
Alliances and Organizations
THE STAR GUARDIANS
The Star Guardians, known originally as The Five Point Heroes, are a faction of guardians that defend the multiverse and the souls inhabiting each. Originally forming sometime in the 17-1800s, it is believed that the very first of the Star Guardians, were put on trial for witchcraft and died by different ways of execution. When they died, their souls, along with their magic and willpowers, bound to their weapons, became bridges between the mortal and spirit world, searching for the next keeperâ they who would hold the weapon next.Â
Symbol of the Star Guardians, depicted above. Depicted on most weapons and in the necklaces.
Star Guardian Necklace
This necklace is personal to each Star Guardian and allows them to transform into their guardian forms. Aside from the colors, each necklace has a charm in that is personal to each SG. Putting the ends of each necklace together creates a five point star.Â
Star Guardian Weapons
Star Bow
Crafted out of a fallen branch from the Tree of Wisdom, sanded down and polished by greatest fletcher in the land, the Star Bow has earned the title of âThe Shooting Starâ. It has been passed down through generations of the pink Star Guardians, every arrow marked with a feather from each, a symbol of the tenacity and energy. The weaponâs inability to stop once itâs started represents not only the determination the Pink Star Guardian is traditionally known for, but also their hedonism and often blindness to their mistakes.
Star Dagger
The Star Dagger|, despite its association with the Blue Star Guardian (the healer of their team), is a fierce weapon; a force to be reckoned with, earning it the title of âIronyâs Daggerâ. It has been crafted by the finest diamonds in all the land, enchanted with an ironic healing property that allows the flat side of the blade to heal even the deepest wounds. The dagger represents how, the Blue Star Guardianâs kindness is, no pun intended, a double-edged sword. In their attempts to help their teammates, although good-intentioned, they might end up harming them instead.
Star Frying Pan
The Star Frying Pan, Or simply The Star Pan (with its title being âHospitalityâs Cast Ironâ) Is a less traditional weapon compared to the other weapons. It is used not only in combat, but in the Green Star Guardianâs domestic life. The very first Green SG enchanted the pan so it would be perfectly seasoned every time one cooks; whether it be serving up a spicy beat down to the next villain, or serving up the tastiest meal.Â
Star Katana
The Star Katana is as sharp as it is noble. This is the only SG weapon to be forged out of pure and enchanted glass, earning a secondary title as âThe Fragile Bladeâ. It often represents how the Yellow Star Guardian seems powerful and graceful on the outside, but may be frail and seconds away from breaking inside.
Star Hatchet
The Star Hatchet is a formidable weapon whose strength lies not in its blade but rather in its weighty swing power. It was once used to chop firewood, but now stands as a mighty guardianâs tool of the hearth and creation, earning the title of âThe Jackâs Hatchetâ, referring to the purple Star Guardianâs creativity and ingenuity.
THE NIGHTSHADES
A royal family that has been around for multiple centuries, roughly since the 1400s which presides over a realm known as the Shadowlands, a desert-like environment. They were originally known for their worshipping of Zalros and/or Zeptis. This, according to historical documents such as prayer books and other religious writings, was because they viewed death and destruction as a part of lifeâs natural cycles, and a reason to appreciate the time in which a person is still alive. However, after the 1900s, an event shrouded in mystery caused the Nightshades to begin a history of violence and warmongering. Details have yet to be uncovered about this event.
THE DEPARTMENT OF MULTIVERSE EXECUTIVES (D.O.M.E.)
The organization which regulates laws within the multiverse. They establish Headquarters, typically, in a place between universes known as the Multiverse Hub. The DOME presides over multiple aspects of regulating universes, such as what modes of traversing between universes are safest, documenting the history of the multiverse, and keeping its inhabitants safe.
Culture and Religion
Part of Nebulix culture is celebrating the cycle of life. Birth, childhood, adulthood, elderly life, and death. They celebrate these cycles through what is known as Festivals of Life. They are usually held in the Multiverse hub, but are celebrated across all universes. They usually include performances such as song and dance, spoken poetry, and plays recounting legends and fables that have been passed down through generations.
Over time, however, Festivals of life have grown to include friendly competitions that let people determine what the âbestâ of two teams are, such as coffee vs. tea, surfing vs. sunbathing, staying in vs. going out on a snowy day, et cetera. The winner is determined by a point set, which people on each team earn points through the popularity of each team, participation in performances, and competitive games and tournaments such as art competitions, relay races, obstacle courses, and other games.
Religion is prevalent in the Nebulix cluster, but not everyone is required to follow any given God or Starborn. There are temples and churches dedicated to Gods and Starborns and there are different kinds, depending on what god a person or family primarily follows. All gods are acknowledged in some way, but most families and individuals typically only worship one or two.
As for cultural and social standards, gender is not considered important, and most Nebulixian people follow the âlive and let liveâ philosophy, and even value those who are different than themselves. This is mostly due to the fact that education is extremely important to Nebulixians, so that the mistakes of the past are not repeated.

I haven't read Star Wars Visions: Ronin but I've read your post and I'm curious, tell me more about it! Especially the queer stuff, pls :D
You should definitely read it! It takes place in an AU, heavily Japanese-inspired version of Star Wars where Jedi serve the Empire in a "feudal lord" arrangement, Sith were a short-lived rebellion against them, and the Force is divided into "white flare/black current" instead of "light/dark." it is VERY cool but the worldbuilding does admittedly feel a bit like being dropped into the deep end. (also it has "hey, aren't the Jedi kind of FUCKED UP??" which is my jam.)
Okay, but you're here for the queer stuff, which I'm here to tell you is unfortunately pretty subtle? Most of the plot is the main characters trying to find a certain planet. The Ronin is pan, and The Traveler is NB. The moments in which they touch are so charged I nearly died. A minor character, Yuehiro, is a trans guy. I think there's lesbians in there somewhere if you look at Ekiya and Kouru and squint real hard.
ANYWAY. VERY GOOD BOOK. BLOCK OFF A FEW HOURS AND READ IT.

If you love THE ACOLYTE you should read RONIN A VISIONS NOVEL by Emma Mieko Candon
The Jedi are the most loyal servants of the Empire.
You've probably seen a lot of stuff around the Acolyte about getting into the High Republic if you want more of the same. And while the High Republic is amazing and you should read it, beyond the in-universe worldbuilding connects and that they're both stories with a lot of Jedi, they're honestly not that similar when it comes to tone and theme. If what you like the most is the unique perspective The Acolyte is bringing to the franchise, you can find more of that in Ronin.
Ronin is an expansion of the season 1 Visions short The Duel. It proposes a much more interesting origin of the Sith than what is in Legends, where you have Jedi with the samurai influence turned up to max and they are the enforcers of a corrupt state and exploiters of the peasantry. There is no Light or Dark Side. And the Sith rise up against the exploitation of non-noble force sensitive Jedi, but in the end they're fighting for their own freedom including at the expense of others. Whether you identify as pro Jedi or not, seeing what the Jedi would be like if they were actually what their worst critics- both in and out of universe- claim is a great way to expand your perspective. It draws even more on jidaigeki and Japanese mythology in general. The writing style is very unique, invoking barely localized Japanese literature.
Two decades ago, Jedi clans clashed in service to feuding lords. Sickened by this endless cycle, a sect of Jedi rebelled, seeking to control their own destiny and claim power in service of no master. They called themselves Sith.  The Sith rebellion failed, succumbing to infighting and betrayal, and the once rival lords unified to create an Empire . . . but even an Empire at peace is not free from violence.  Far on the edge of the Outer Rim, one former Sith wanders, accompanied only by a faithful droid and the ghost of a less civilized age. He carries a lightsaber, but claims lineage to no Jedi clan, and pledges allegiance to no lord. Little is known about him, including his name, for he never speaks of his past, nor his regrets. His history is as guarded as the red blade of destruction he carries sheathed at his side.  As the galaxyâs perpetual cycle of violence continues to interrupt his self-imposed exile, and he is forced to duel an enigmatic bandit claiming the title of Sith, it becomes clear that no amount of wandering will ever let him outpace the specters of his former life.
As for the similarities to the Acolyte, you got a darker tone, mystery, learning the backstory of characters as you go, a new way of seeing the Force, and witch(es).
It's also extremely queer. The main character in pansexual. One member of the main cast, the mysterious Traveler, is non-binary. There's also a sapphic romantic subplot.
It follows the Ronin right after the events of the Duel, where he is forced to join the Traveler, Chie- a bounty hunter who hunts Jedi while believing in her own Force religion, and Ekiya- a member of a people who the Sith displaced and forced to fight for them, now trying to regain her people's homeland. You also get to learn what the Sith Bandit's deal is.
It is in its own continuity (although it has also had some one-shot comics also telling original stories), although in my personal version of Star Wars it is a mythohistory about the ancient history of the Jedi and Sith. This means I don't have to stress out about the specifies of technology and magic, but can use the general gist to create my own narrative in my head.

Hi!
Iâm not sure if youâre taking asks about Ronin anymore, but I thought Iâd throw it into the void. Firstly though, thank you so much it was a fantastic book that bewitched me into finishing it in two days(havenât been able to do that in several years) and it has left me irreparably emotionally devastated. Absolutely my favorite book and has been placed on the shelf that houses the rest. So thank you so much for writing this book!!! It will rot my brain and live in my heart forever <3
Now my real question, how old would you say the Ronin is? The only reference we get is that he was definitely a young man during the rebellion, and then twenty years passed, so my assumption heâs maybe mid forties? But the crew keeps calling him old man!
Hi!! I am absolutely up for Ronin asks, especially on May 4th!
Firstly, I am so glad the book nested in your heart. It is the best thing to hear, and I am so happy you have found another story to keep there.
Second: my read on the Ronin is somewhere between his mid-late 40s and early 50s. I believe that everyone calling him "old man" is relatively younger (Ekiya) and/or kind of fucking rude (Kouru). There are decidedly older figures in the cast (Chie, Hanrai), so to them, the Ronin is a strapping young lad who's made some ill-considered life choices -- although they would accept that he's old enough to understand that sometimes when you wake up, your body is very upset about it.
The Ronin also thinks of himself as old because he is just so tired, all the time. And I wanted the weight of his life to have marked his body in very palpable ways. Probably has hella arthritis.

Queer Star Wars Characters (Round 1): Ronin Match 1
The Ronin | Identity: pansexual| Media: Star Wars Visions âThe Duelâ/Ronin Novel
The Ronin is the former Sith turned Sith-hunter seen in the Star Wars Visions short âThe Duelâ. He is from a continuity where the Jedi go full samurai, serving an Empire. Twenty years ago, a group of disaffected Jedi rebelled as the Sith, plunging the galaxy into war. Haunted by his actions in the war, the Ronin has set off to kill all of the remaining Sith. This is interrupted when he is saved by a group of travelers who need his help to find the lost planet of Reiâzu, which disappeared at the end of the war. I donât want to go into too much detail, as Ronin is an amazing novel with a lot of great plot twists. But in the course of his adventure and making his found family, he falls in love with the mysterious non-binary Traveler. Described as a âbig bad pansexual sadâ by the author, he also has an important past relationship with a woman.Â
Kouru (Sith Bandit Leader) | Identity: wlw | Media: Star Wars Visions âThe Duelâ/Ronin Novel
Kouru is the Sith Bandit Leader from âThe Duelâ. She is from a continuity where the Jedi went full samurai and serve an Empire. She was taken from her home by the Jedi at a young age and raised as a second-class Jedi, lesser than those born into the clans from Jedi parents. She joined the Sith rebellion, where she created her umbrella auxiliary in defiance of the Order mandating only standard lightsabers. After the rebellion failed, twenty years later she is a bandit leader terrorizing the people of Genbara. She is killed by the Ronin, but a mysterious entity revives her and fills her with a desire to kill the Ronin. She eventually has to team up with the Roninâs new found family, where she falls in love with Ekiya. Iâm keeping things vague, as Ronin has a lot of good plot twists.

Star Wars Visions: Ronin: A Visions Novel | Book Review
When it was announced that Emma Mieko Candon would be writing a novel based around âThe Duelâ short from the first season of Star Wars: Visions, it was exciting. Candonâs book Ronin: A Visions Novel would expand upon what was seen in âThe Duelâ going even deeper to the world created by Kamikaze Douga. Visions was a revolutionary idea from Lucasfilm, allowing Japanese anime studios to tell a Star Wars story of their creation not bound by the existing canon. As volume two expanded to animation studios around the world, weâve been treated to eighteen unique and fun stories.
In âThe Duelâ, the Jedi Empire and a breakaway sect known as The Sith have ended their war. A man known only as The Ronin shows up at a village under attack by bandits of former stormtroopers led by a Sith. While the Roninâs droid B5-56 saves the villagers, The Ronin fights and kills the Sith, revealing himself to be a former Sith as well. After he kills her, he adds her red kyber crystal to his growing collection. The Ronin gives the crystal to the villagers, promising that it wards off evil.
Candon begins their novel with a retelling of âThe Duelâ before telling an expanding story. The Ronin meets and begins to travel with Chie, a bounty hunter who hunts Jedi Knights; Ekiya, a former Sith conscript and pilot of the Poor Crow; and the Traveler, a man surrounded by mystery. Unfortunately, this is as far as I feel comfortable talking about the plot without spoiling the story.
Candon does a great job contextualizing the Star Wars mythology in a Japanese mythological and historical context. As someone who reads so much of the Star Wars canon, it was difficult at times for me to partition my brain to remember that I had to ignore existing Star Wars canon and that this was always loosely connected to the franchise. I did struggle with the first half of the book; however, once I crossed the âset upâ threshold, things flowed much easier.
I would be interested in reading a review of this book by someone who isnât an already established Star Wars fan. I donât think you would need to even have basic knowledge of Star Wars to enjoy the book, but I think knowing what canonical history is puts the story told in the book in an interesting context. I believe that with a few tweaks even this story could fit the historical context of the Star Wars timeline.
I liked Ronin, and what Candon did in their storytelling. Again, I donât want to go into much detail for fear of spoilers of a great story here, one that I didnât see coming.

you know what the real kicker is? these are only some of the characters i know and recognize. there are over 200 entries for queer characters on wookieepedia, and i just scrolled through the list and picked my favorites.
and these aren't just one-off, blink and you'll miss it characters. they have presence. they matter. their stories are central to the world in which they exist.
this isn't even including a bunch of the legends characters (except for juhani, who i have to include always because i love her and i am biased, but also she and the rest of the kotor gang are kind of in a ??? state regarding canon status). these are almost all characters who have come into being since 2012.
star wars has not had the best track record with representation, and it's not god's gift to the world. but you cannot say they have no queer representation. you cannot say they only ever bury their gays. there are so many people fighting to tell these stories with characters that reflect who we really are - people. messy, beautiful, luminous, queer people.
"star wars is so bad at queer rep" they just canonized lesbian fpreg (the f stands for force)

finished star wars ronin yesterday and i have some thoughts...
overall i wanted to like it but was left just so confused the whole time
the ending was kind of anticlimactic considering how confusing the story was leading up to it. the writing style is too poetic to the point that it's unclear what the end result of conversations are, so character motivations are unclear. ekiya is the most refreshing character only because i can clearly understand what she wants and what she thinks of the other characters. but for everyone else, i kept feeling like 'oh i'm excited to see where this relationship goes' but never getting any resolution.
and the world building is also very confusing. i know it's a tough order to create a whole new world that still feels like star wars but like... they subvert just enough things to have the potential to be interesting, but don't let the characters interact with the world enough to fully flesh it out. so like i kept leaning on the language of star wars, but that doesn't work either since so many key aspects are changed (the black/white currents of the force, the jedi serving the empire, the sith being the rebels). all concepts i would love! if only it wasn't explained in obtuse prose, or only referred to obliquely
it just felt like reading a good fanfic, where the best parts were the interactions between characters, but even these conversations tended to be confusing due to the prose. at least there was old man yaoi

How would you describe the POV you used in Ronin?
This feels broad so I'm not sure I'm going to get at what you mean -- let me know if you're thinking something else!
In technical terms: close third person with multiple narrators.
In character terms: four distinct narrators, one predominating over the rest to form the main backbone of the narrative, especially as the other three are reflections of his shortcomings or frailties in particular ways. The Ronin is contemplative, wry, and deeply skeptical of himself as like, a project; Kouru is sharp, driven, and surprisingly (most of all to herself) acutely sensitive to injustice; Ekiya is practical, funny, and compelled to compassion; and Hanrai is philosophical, insightful, and deeply assured of himself.
There were characters who I knew would never get POV, most specifically the Traveler, as they're very much a cipher, but also the witch, as she's both withholding and...in many ways, lost to the Ronin specifically.

Queer Star Wars Characters (Round 1): Ronin Match 3
Yuehiro| Identity: trans male | Media: Ronin Novel
Yuehiro is a 14 year old Twiâlek adopted into Lord Hanariâs Jedi clan. Despite all the evil stuff the Jedi of Ronin do, they were supportive of him changing his name and moving into the boyâs dormitory. As a Jedi, he is too curious for his own good and got in trouble attempting to investigate rumors about a Sith demon and disappearing Jedi bodies. He was part of a group of Jedi apprentices rescued by the crew of the Poor Crow when Lord Hanariâs flagship was destroyed, joining them on their journey to the lost planet of the Reiâzu.Â
He is tied with Shogo (also from the Ronin novel) for being the first binary trans person in Star Wars.Â

Shogo | Identity: trans male | Media: Ronin Novel
Shogo is a member of the Reiâzu people, who with Ekiya, was conscripted by the Sith as a child. He was part of a group of six conscripts who survived their own uprising against their Sith commander, but with the vanishing of Reiâzu became a refugee. During the uprising, his knee was damaged, but by the time his group could afford a prosthetic, he didnât want someone elseâs tech inside him and instead built himself a knee brace. He is primarily a slicer, but also built the Ronin a new jaw prosthetic.Â
While the group of Reiâzu refugees has drifted apart and Shogo considers Ekiyaâs plan to rediscover Reiâzu a lost cause, he is still willing to help Ekiya. He also has an emergency stash of hormones on her ship the Poor Crow.Â
He is tied with Yuehiro (also from the Ronin novel) for being the first binary trans person in Star Wars.Â
