I've been doing a final 'victory tour' of sorts around the Valhalla map with Eivor, because I needed to finish some trophies and also do the Last Goodbyes mission. So I was visiting my favourite locations and seeing if I could spot any old friends, and I went back to say goodbye to Ceolbert one last time and it gave the option to interact with the burial sarcophagus in the little chapel, and Eivor fucking CRIED OVER HIM 💔

It brought tears to my eyes too. I didn't expect that to happen, since I'd visited before this and I don't think it happened the first time. Ough. God. 💔💔

I just realised, Basim is pretty much the first *real* Assassin/Hidden One we get to play as, since a few games back

Bayek and Aya were the founders, but Bayek was a Medjay and only let that mantle go to become a Hidden One with Aya at the end of the game when they actually founded the faction. Kassandra was a misthios, her only encounter with any 'assassin' came from DLC content. Eivor was given the opportunity to join the Hidden Ones a number of times, Hytham practically begged her, but she declined

Basim..... well, I'm only right at the beginning of the game, but it seems like his true heritage is still repressed, so it makes sense that he is clinging to something that gives him a chance to fight injustices. I'm curious to see how much he changes as the game goes along

It also puts into perspective just how much people agree with the "Odyssey/Valhalla is a great game but it would've been better if it wasn't Assassin's Creed" sentiments. I don't have a frame of reference for games prior to Origins, so I just have to take these new games at face value kinda thing, without comparing to the old ones
