i feel like a very valuable lesson i’ve taken away from over a decade engaging with fandom is that deriving your enjoyment solely from Representation with a capital R (or lack thereof) will inevitably lead to disappointment & eventually resentment, and if you’re not enjoying the media you’re consuming on a thematic, narrative or technical level then you may be better served taking the elements you do like and fucking off to AO3 with it

#like. the psychic damage i caused myself by pushing through ouat years after it lost its appeal on every conceivable level…#and i truly think that is a learned behavior #out of a warped sense of loyalty but also b/c we’re all increasingly irony poisoned #at a certain point righteous anger becomes the default method of engagement #when they killed delphine off in OB i stopped watching & i never bothered going back. not even when i learned she was alive #b/c post-S1 i no longer trusted the capabilities of the showrunners #all this to say i kind of take this for granted on here because all of you are normal #but my god are the kids on twitter suffering #either lower your defenses & open your mind orrrrr hit the bricks!
