“Unpopular opinion maybe, but I will still say it. I don't agree with the idea that poor people have to remain poor. You can make it out of poverty, if you have a talent, work hard and yes, you need some luck. Jack is still salty about not becoming a national athlete, because he was too poor to get the best teachers.
If he had had an extraordinary talent, he would have made it, but he didn't. Children need schools to learn to read and write, yes, but if you learn that, books are mostly free. I'm sure Thailand has libraries. And everyone can get a phone nowadays, which puts the knowledge of the whole world in your pocket. Look for a normal job, save money, pay for your education and degrees.
Climb up that damn ladder. Because of generational wealth, there are people who wouldn't have made it without their parent's money. Yes. But in general I think, if a rich and a poor person start out the same, you give them the same amount of money, the rich one will be rich again, the poor will stay poor. This is not only about money, it's about the mindset. All those poor people don't seem to work hard in this series. Joker, Tattoo, Hoy - what are they even doing the whole day? They seem a bit dumb too.”
U see shit like this then remember why u r the way that you are lol.
No amount of wishing will have you make it out of poverty. It is pure luck whether getting collections from your local church or meeting some rich fuck by chance one day or even surreptitiously getting a phone and you can post on tiktok. It isn’t just money falling in your lap, it’s anything that can enable you to make that happen. What can Toey Ting do and post on TikTok that will help her situation when she can barely type?
Educate yourself! This person says when someone has no foundation to know what an education means and what a good one would look like. Can you just teach yourself? This is absolutely absurd this person is saying the best way to get an education and to not be poor is by simply going to the library (where is this library?) or using your phone (is my internet good?) and teaching yourself. And getting a job.
The mindset that makes rich people rich is….they have money. What the fuck is a rich mindset. Have we seen rose work a day in her goddamn life so far? Because what do you mean the poor people don’t work hard? We have literally seen them do all the fucking work that’s the point what the fuck?
Shit like this pisses me OFF but also puts inti perspective why I am not angry ar Jack at all. No he CAN’T just find another job actually that’s the fucking point and that’s kind of a fucking problem. Hey how about why the fuck do I, as an indigenous person to this land, a natural citizen, have to PAY TO LIVE? I thought we were one country? Why do I pay a broker that tells me if I get hurt I will either have to die or be in debt forever and they can garnish my wages and dip into securities? People get rich off of this! But no instead of asking that you give BRILLIANT ideas on how to stop being poor such as…stopping being poor.

I'm taking you down with me, bud! ❤️🌛 I challenge you to ALSO do all of the Part II questions!
Ooooooo Thank you!!!! I hope ur ready for some Ren Facts 😎 (the rest is under the cut just bc it's long lol)
1. What are your OC's best and worst qualities What do they think are their best and worst qualities?
Ren's best quality is probably his loyalty. Once he trusts someone, he's ride or die. For the most part.
His worst quality is that he holds a Grudge. He's pissed at Max for a LONG time after the scholar thing, and doesn't fully come around until well after Scylla. He's been hurt a few too many times to take what he sees as betrayal lightly.
Ren would probably agree his best quality is his loyalty, but he would say his worst quality is his temper.
2. Is there a meaning behind their name, or a particular reason why they have it? (either in the story, or why you as the author decided to give them their name)
I just answered a question about Ren's name so Ill give the real world answer! Genuinely, I saw someone with the nickname Ren when i was at work and i was like Yo that's a cool name. And i snatched it up. I steal a lot of cool names from work 😂😅
3. What does their voice sound like, in a couple of words? (ie soft, scratchy, seductive, high pitched, etc)
Oddly?? I haven't thought about it much! He's trans and was on T on Earth, and I've guess i always imagined like a bit lower and kinda scratchy? Look, Ive been on T for a while and only JUST realized like a month ago that my voice changed a lot, I'm not good with like,,, voices or describing them fjalfjalf
4. Do they have any underlying motivations? (ie hey seem hard-working but secretly just don't want to fall back into poverty, etc)
Ren's secretive about exactly what they're doing for Phineas at first, because he's not sure he can trust ANYONE, but as soon as he warms up to the crew and to Phineas, he's pretty straight forward with them. He doesn't tell them about his past on Earth for a while, but he came to Halcyon to start over as a paramedic. He truly wants to save the people on the Hope, and believes they can help save the colony.
5. Does their fashion sense reflect an aspect of their personality? (ie bright and colorful outfits symbolizing that they're an upbeat person)
Ren ends up wearing old altered Iconiclast armor. He uses his own fabric in colors he's not mistaken for the Iconiclasts. He ends up choosing the blue for the head scarf and detailing because he stopped dying his hair when he got to Halcyon (too much work) so it's a little homage to the hair color he sported for years. That's not really the answer to the question but... i'm leaving it there 😅
6. Do they have any tattoos? What are they, and why did they get them?
YES! On his left arm he has the word FUCK tattooed. His late husband Johnny had "SHIT" tattooed on him, because those were the first words they said to each other. Once they realized that after they got married, they got it tattooed
I want Ren to have more tattoos but i haven't put that much thought into it lol I think he'd get some in Halcyon too, and not all of them would have some grand meaning! I think eventually he'd get something to commemorate his original crew on the Unreliable
7. What is their biggest insecurity?
Ren biggest insecurity is that he doesn't believe he's as morally good as he really is. He has a checkered past on Earth, but really it's bc he's more of a Chaotic Good type than a Neutral Good.
However, he still thinks he's way in over his head and doesn't ever know if he's doing the right thing.
8. What is their coping mechanism?
Fake it til u make it baybee. That and cigarettes. He doesn't drink so much anymore, but he smokes as an anxious habit when he's not Doing Great (and generally only then, so if he's smoking, he's going through it)
9. What is their main love language? (gifts, quality time, acts of service, physical touch, words of affirmation)
Oooo copy pasting this one bc i answered it before from a different ask thing and im too lazy too type a new answer :,) :
Ren's love language is definitely physical touch, acts of service are important to him, but being physical close to his people is the best. Makes for fun moments when someone Ren cares about helps bandage him up after a fight uwu
10. What is their MBTI type?
INJF (idk i made it up im too lazy to go through and do that sorry lol)
11. What kind of person are they most compatible with? (platonic or romantic)
Queer people, generally, but anyone who isn't a dick 😂
He doesn't really like cynical people, even though he can be kinda cynical himself sometimes, so he finds it really hard to get along with Max and Ellie through the story. Ellie and Ren definitely bond somewhat after her quest, and Max kinda gets over the most annoying if his cynicism after his quest, so that helps a lot.
12. How do they feel about romantic relationships? Are they into casual flings or more serious, long-term romances? Or are they uninterested?
Very interested on all levels lol. Ren is very casual about sex, he's more of a 'it's a fun activity' kind of guy. He's totally happy with casual flings, however! He is also a romantic. In an ideal world, his partner(s) would be open to the idea of non monogamy, but if not, Ren would be absolutely fine with settling down with the right person. (spoilers i give Ren his happy ending........ no pun intended)
13. What are their views on marriage? If they want to get married, what would their dream wedding be like?
Ren's been married! He and Johnny got married for the benefit status, though. Ren doesn't particularly care about marriage as an institution, but he did enjoy having a party to celebrate his and Johnny's love, soooo he's not closed to the idea in the future. He wouldn't be the one to ask for one though.
14. How is their relationship with their family Which family member are they closest to?
Non existant. He cut off communication with his parents right after high school. He kept tabs on them from a distance for a while, but eventually stopped checking in on them. He used to spend summers on his uncle's dairy farm, though, and before he cut off his parents, his Uncle was probably the person he was closest too. It wasn't a very familial relationship, though, and he didn't answer after Ren reached out in his 20s. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
15. Has their personality changed at all since they were a child? Why?
Absolutely. Ren grew up with grossly wealthy parents, so he was coddled and shielded by a lot as a child. Until High school he was probably kinda like those pretentious little kids who's low key annoying, but i'm high school he learned about the horrors of ~capitalism~ and things went downhill from their (or uphill? Because he's definitely a better person for it 😅)
16. How do other characters in the story view them?
Ooooo, this is a tricky one, it depends on the timeline of the game, but at first I think their all a little bit optimistically confused by him lol. He's a stranger who came out of nowhere and is offering to help (for a fee sometimes), but then is actually capable of surviving in this colony while not knowing what "Tossball" is.
By the end of the game, they all see him as more human and less superhero, understanding he has his limits, but by the end of the game there's definitely a mutual respect from everyone on the crew. I could go more into each persons opinions but this would be twice as long as it already will be lmfao
17. How many hours of sleep does your OC get on average?
Not enough :,)
18. Where do they see themself in ten years?
Ideally, he, Phineas, and Hiram are settled down somewhere relatively safe in the colony and he and Hiram can work on the colony while Phineas relaxes and works in his own projects for fun for once in his life
19. If they had a theme song, what would it be?
BRONCO ORVILLE PECK (literally listening to it as i type 😇)
20. What AU would they belong in the best?
PIRATES hahaha probably bc i'm writing that one 🥴 but really ive thrown Ren into every AU at this point (at least in my head, if not scribbled somewhere in a notebook)
for the purposes of the ask~ i'll stick with pirates haha

Tumblr media
(Y/n) sat down hurriedly as she took her seat, already having missed the very opening of the play. She looked at her date who had new hope in his eyes at her sudden presence.
"I'm so sorry," She whispered to avoid disturbing anyone else in the café théâtre, "There was a delay at the Cité stop."
"It's alright, you're here now." He smiled, "I was worried that you weren't going to show up."
"I could never." She replied with a soft smile as he waved a waiter over.
"The usual and a (favourite coffee), s'il vous plaît, Victor." He spoke in a polite tone, proceeding to describe any other details of (Y/n)'s drink to the man, the employee nodded his head and went off to make them both.
(Y/n) had met Arno here at his café théâtre, she went in most mornings seeing as she worked at the florists just down the street. She was enchanted by the place when she first found it, often leaving the house earlier to enjoy a coffee and a chapter of her book there before her first shift of the day. There were often performers on the stage too and it was her favourite thing when a violinist or pianist was playing on the stage as she immersed herself in the pages of whichever novel she had been reading that month. Quite often, when she went in, Arno was the one working behind the counter. It wasn't uncommon for the two to flirt with each other at all either.
In fact, he didn't realise how much he liked seeing her in the mornings until she was put on an earlier shift at work and no longer had the time to visit his café in the mornings. When her shifts returned to normal, he asked her on a date the very first chance he got, and she readily accepted.
So, that's what brought them here.
"It's sweet to know that you remember my favourite drink." She smiled softly, feeling a slight heat on her cheeks.
"How could I not? You come in almost every morning." He teased, "But, I must admit, I usually take care to make sure I get it right for you." He watched her look down at her lap shyly, her smile tugging at her lips despite her trying to hide it. It was a small gesture but in a world full of so many thoughtless people, it meant a lot to her.
"So, (Y/n), what sorts of things do you like? Other than reading, I know plenty of Mary Shelley and Jane Austen by now." He replied. (Y/n) recalled to where he would often ask her how her book was going and she'd share her thoughts and favourite quotes with him.
"Well. . . I really like history and the arts. I think that there's always so much to learn from the people who came before us." At her choice of words, his face became painted with an amused smile, "And we have so many sources to look to now, to see the error in our past and current ways, to change things for the better. I'm particularly fond of the Renaissance and the French and American revolutions."
"The French revolution?" He raised a brow.
"Absolutely!" She replied with a grin and sparkling eyes, "I can understand why people aren't fond of it - it was bloody, ruthless, some instances were horrifyingly shocking and so many lives were lost. But how many lives would have continued to fall to poverty if that had not happened? I love the politics behind it, how easily Robespierre, the seemingly untouchable man, fell to corruption and, eventually, the guillotine. Also, movements like that are important became it gave many women the chance to show their worth - the women's march on Versailles, Charlotte Corday, Theroigne de Mericourt. . ."
"Ah, yes, I knew her."
"Oh, you've studied her?" (Y/n) replied, thanking the waiter as he placed their coffees down on the table before them. Arno laughed heartily, watching her confusion with amusement, the way she furrowed her brow and tilted her head, looking much more adorable in his eyes than she should.
"No, I met her. I helped her to get some food to the poor and get rid of some Jacobins too." He watched her face fall into shock, hardly able to drink his coffee with the smile on his face.
"How long have you been looking for your soulmate? When were you born?" She raised her brows. In this world, looks could be very deceiving: an eighteen-year-old could be a five-hundred-year-old. (Y/n) had even heard stories of people who kill their soulmates so that they never die.
"I looked for around two centuries, stopped after the first world war, then starting looking again," He hesitated, "recently." In truth, he had given up altogether until he met the (h/c)-haired woman sitting opposite him, "And I was born in 1768."
"Wow. . ." She breathed out, "You've lived through a good portion of history then, huh?"
"You could say that." He shrugged, "I take it that you're actually eighteen?"
"Twenty-six, actually." She replied, taking a sip of her favourite coffee, "So, I'm on a date with a two-hundred and fifty-two year old?" She tutted at him and shook her head teasingly, all in light-heartedness.
"All jokes I've heard before, chérie." He replied.
"Must be a lot of birthday candles." She continued to tease with a childish grin as he rolled his eyes playfully.
"Cut the old jokes and I’ll let you see some of my memorabilia from the revolution, how does that sound?" He cut her a deal. She lifted her hand to mimic zipping her lips and throwing the zip away.
"If it's not a sensitive subject, would you mind telling me if it's been difficult? Trying to find a soulmate, I mean." She spoke in a more serious tone.
"I always thought that my first love was my soulmate. Her name was Élise. My parents. . . weren't really in the picture when I was a boy so I was raised by Élise's father. We grew up together and we fell in love as teenagers. We both thought that we were perfect for each other but. . . neither of us aged after eighteen. It didn't make me love her any less, though. But, one day. . . She died in a fight." She could see that he was still upset by her death, though, the time passed since had clearly made him accept it and learn how to talk of it openly. "I've had a few lovers since then and many went the same way: three serious ones in the 19th century who left when they met their soulmates. One in the 1910s who died in prison-" He saw the look of shock on (Y/n)'s face "- she wasn't a criminal, she was a suffragette; as was I." He paused a moment more, "I gave up after that until recently."
"What made you change your mind?" She propped her chin on her hand, hanging onto each little detail of his stories. Was that the hint of a blush she could see on his cheeks?
"Not to be an old-fashioned romantic. . ." He joked, making (Y/n) smile at him joining in with her old jokes, "But it was you." Her back straightened a bit with surprise.
"Me?" He reached for her hand across the table, watching him nod his head as he idly twisted her fingers around his.
"You give me hope." He smiled simply.
♡♡♡
Quite a few months had passed since then - as had many more dates and Arno asking to ‘court’ her (that earned him both a ‘yes’ and many old jokes) - and (Y/n) was currently laid with Arno in his room, it was early in the morning and they were half-dressed, tangled in the bedsheets with half-drank coffee on the bedside table and a tray of various snacks laid by them: different cheeses, sweetmeats, cut fruits. Arno had his head laid on her stomach and she was propped against the wall, a pillow cushioning her back. One of her hands was running through his hair, his eyes closed as he listened to her voice and lavished in her gentle caresses. Her other hand was holding a copy of Frankenstein: they'd both read it before but shared a love for it.
" 'How can I describe my emotions at this catastrophe, or how delineate the wretch whom with such infinite pains and care I had endeavoured to form? His limbs were in proportion, and I had selected his features as beautiful. Beautiful! - Great God! ' " She glanced down to her lover, lips pursing as she laid the book down.
"Have you been stressed lately, amour?" She furrowed her brows, making him open his eyes.
"Having to change suppliers for the café has been a bit difficult, yes." He sighed, "What makes you ask?"
"You have a silver hair." She commented. His hand went to his head rapidly as he sat up, finding the culprit hair with shock. His mouth fell agape and (Y/n) was confused for a moment before she realised what this meant for both of them. He turned to face her, watching the smile creep onto her lips as he lunged forward to cup her face, pulling her into a deep kiss and holding her body as close to his as possible, skimming his hands down her spine as hers went up to rest on his shoulders, the two of them having to pull apart from smiling too much. He held her tenderly and rested his forehead against hers, lips brushing featherly over hers when he said:
"You took your time, didn't you?"
