Ramadan 2019 will end next week. Eid al-Fitr will celebrate the end of the Muslim calendar’s most sacred month. Here’s all you need to know about Eid celebration and how the special holiday is celebrated.

Muslims all over the world observed the pious month of Ramadan with fasting. During this month, Muslims do not eat or drink anything during the daylight hours. They believe that this practice brings them closer to God. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim’s calendar and ends with Eid celebrations.

The Ramadan dates change as the Islamic calendar works as per the moon cycles. This year Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on 4 and 5 June. The festival begins with the sighting of the Shawwal moon which is announced by a special astronomers’ board in Saudi Arabia.

How is Eid al-Fitr celebrated?

The festival is celebrated differently across the globe. Many Muslim communities begin with morning prayers followed by sweet snacks to symbolize Ramadan’s end.

Friends and family come together to exchange gifts and feast. Everyone wears new clothes and look their best. Fairgrounds are also put up especially for this occasion.
