I have tried
to get photos of the White-throated Sparrows that have been hanging around for about a week now and put a cam on the ground but to no avail. Squirrels and the groundhog were happy though. The first one here has also been nibbling on black walnuts, as you can tell by the darker ring around his mouth 😆

As a German-speaker, I feel appalled by the misinterpretation of the word Eichhörnchen.
(Once you are able to pronounce this word as a non-native German-speaker, you are unbeatable, btw.)
Eichhörnchen (squirrel) comes up frequently when talking about funny literal translation, being translated as ‘oak croissant’.
While this is not technically incorrect, and the German word for oak is indeed ‘Eiche’ (and yes, Germans capitalise all nouns), it’s really not the direct translation most native German-speakers would give.
You see, the suffix ‘-chen’, which doesn’t really exist in other languages as far as I know, is the Verniedlichung. The most accurate way I know to translate that is the ‘cutifier’. For instance, if instead of talking of a ‘Hund’ (dog), you talk of a ‘Hündchen’, it will be assumed you are talking of a cute, usually smaller dog.
(Note that certain vowels may be replaced with an Umlaut. U->Ü, A->Ä, O->Ö)
The word Horn (cutified: Hörnchen) means horn. Wile this is occasionally used to describe a Croissant (or any other horn-/sickle shaped backed good), they are usually referred to by their French name, if slightly differently pronounced.
So the most accurate literal translation of ‘Eichhörnchen’ is ‘cute little oak horn’, which frankly, I find even more amusing.

🪜🐿️🥜 Das Erstaunliche an diesem unscharfen Bild der Fotofalle ist das #Eichhörnchen im Hintergrund, das die am Baum nur kurz angelehnte Leiter nutzt, die wir nehmen, um die 🐿️-Futterstation oben in der Birke zu befüllen. Vielleicht sollten wir die Leiter einfach stehen lassen. 🤣
