Hi everyone, my name is Samantha. I am currently a college student interning for Dress Profesh. Today I am wearing my favorite color, my favorite scarf, and some of my favorite accessories. I would like to consider dressing professional as being able to express myself while looking ‘presentable’ to others however, would society think so? Can I really wear leggings to work? Will this outfit help enforce the idea that I am serious? Maybe it all depends on the culture and values of the company where my attire can be appropriate? What do you think?

It’s a million degrees in Michigan and it’s making it hard to concentrate on work. How do you dress profesh to stay cool?

I’m wearing a blousy top (Modcloth), a cardigan (Modcloth), black pants (Old Navy), and Keen shoes. I chose this for comfort, and since I’m at a conference where temperature control can vary, layers are important. This is #profesh to me because I’m wearing the clothes in a professional context but, it is an outfit that tries to balance comfort with style, which adheres to my sensibilities--some color, versatility and fun.

Today I was going for more of a comfortable and warm look. I am wearing skinny blue jeans, boots, a nice blouse, and a long sleeve sweater. These past two days I have worn dresses for presentations. The reason I am wearing this outfit is because my knees and ankles have been hurting due to walking in flats with poor support, so today I wanted to wear more comfortable shoes.

Since I am attending a long conference, I decided to look semi-professional without regretting my choices by the end of the day. I am wearing a jacket, a printed t-shirt, slacks, and a pair of sneakers. It’s a mixture of professionalism and comfort.

I’m wearing a helvetica typography tee, an oversized black and gray cardigan, a black and white striped textured skirt, and a pair of combat boots. #gothchic
I have asymmetrical hair paired with a color wheel enamel pin, and wearing an electric lavender lipstick. My professional style is the same as my personal style. I can never fracture the parts of myself in my style, my teaching, and my scholarly self.

I am wearing a black skirt suit, a faded neon blue, and green floral pattern that’s a size too big with purple opaque tights, and a pair of skechers (“dressing” looking shape-ups). I am also wearing a plaid purple backpack, a conference name tag, my eye glasses, a fitbit flex, and three pieces of jewelry: engagement ring, wedding ring, and a necklace.
This is the one of the first and only suits I’ve purchased; it hangs off my shoulders a little, which reminds me of how hard I worked to reclaim a body I love. Purple is one of my school colors and has been a favorite; I was a proud school-spirited freshman pirate. The shoes remind me of the value of being active without wearing sneakers; sneakers are for mowing my lawn. My backpack is part of my professional identity because in many of my professional spaces/have been ‘homeless”(no office space), and with a brief three year exception when I’ve had an office, it was too inconvenient to be worth adding that to the weirdness of my working conditions; so I have used them for a little more than long term storage.
Being ME! Wearing my identity is key to me regardless of the role I’m playing. I choose not to compartmentalize my personal and professional identities. If I cannot be me in a professional space, I do not belong in that space!

RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU WOULD WEAR THIS TO WORK

I am wearing a new dress with leggings, since they are comfortable. I am also wearing a jacket because of the air conditioning in the building. Professional dress for me is
Levels of comfort
non-dry cleaned and not needing an iron
covers enough to not feel uncomfortable with students (no accidental showing chest/upper leg)
fullfills of whatever my sense of “30-something cool enough girl”.

From Jeremy:
I’m wearing a hat, t-shirt, and jacket. I’m hosting an academic conference and want to be noticed.
It’s not professional in the traditional sense, but the mismatch of seriousness gives me status (or at least makes me noticeable).
