It was later that day, Hero was laying against Villain’s chest, their mind somewhere else. Villain watched closely at every move. Every rise and fall of Hero’s chest. Their fingers lacing through Hero’s hair. They couldn't believe SuperVillain would ever lay a hand on their hero. Theirs, not SuperVillain’s.  

The front door opened and closed, Villain’s eyes roamed to the door of the room, half asleep. A smile pulled at their lips as they met with Villain 2’s. “Hey, my love.” 

Villain 2 shrugged off their jacket and hung it up. Hero blinked their eyes open with a sigh. They stretched before tensing, their eyes falling to the collar of Villain 2’s shirt. Blood.

They sat up quickly, “Wh-what did you do??” Villain gently shushed them, hot breath catching their ear as they subtly held the Hero closer to them, “Don't worry, love, you don't have to worry about anything for a long while.” 

Hero went to jolt up, quickly stopped as arms wrapped tighter around them, “Hush, darling, you're tired, it’s alright.”

Hero sobbed, their eyes not leaving the blood that stained the cotton. Blotching like watercolour against paper. They didn't notice the tears until Villain 2 stepped forward, cupping their cheek and wiping Hero’s cheekbone with their thumb.

Villain 2 slowly knelt down to the plush carpet, smile full of sympathy, “It's alright, all you have to focus on is us. We are all you need, sweetheart.”

Hero melted into the touch, hating themself for it, “M-’m safe here?” Villain smiled, looking up at Villain 2, “The safest. We’ve got you. We are all you need. With us, you're safe.”

Hours had passed, Hero had fallen fast asleep once more. Villain 2 hummed as they worked away in the kitchen, stirring the pasta sauce, “My love, can you give me a hand dishing up?”

“Of course!” Villain smiled, they gently rolled Hero off of them and to the couch as they stood up, tucking a pillow underneath their head, “Just a second,” They smiled, whispering to Hero before walking to Villain 2 in the kitchen. Hero blinked slowly, taking in their surroundings. Coffee table, fireplace, a tv that murmured quietly, an abstract painting which hung on the wall. 

As they rubbed their eyes, they thought for a moment. Their eyes darted around the room. No villain in sight. They felt their heartbeat fasten before they slowly stood. There was distant talking of the two villains. Hero waited a second before pacing towards the front door, their hand reached out towards the metal of the door. Freedom. They needed to ignore the villain’s words and focus on freedom.

Their fingers wrapped around the handle and-

“Where do you think you're going, dove?”

Hero tensed. There was not even a drop of kindness left in their voice. No false sense of warmth. Just anger.

“I-I-” Hero didn't even turn around to face them, they didn't want to- they couldn't. They had kept their calm until they felt Villain close in on them. Hero spun around, yelping out as they realized they were trapped between the door and the city’s worst but greatest Villain. Villain leaned in close, soaking in how the frail Hero flinched back, “I really didn't want to do this, dove, but you have left me no choice,” They cooed, the flick of their switchblade going unmissed.

Hero flinched, their head hitting the door with a wince, “Nononono-” Useless pleas flooded from their mouth as their eyes met Villain’s. “No- no, please don’t do this I-”

“Dinner’s ready, my loves,” Villain 2 smiled, two bowls in their hands. They didn't seem bothered in the slightest by the sight before them. They continued towards the table and placed the crockery down. Hero gulped hard, a tear rolling down their cheek, throat closed up. Villain paused, knife just resting beneath Hero’s chin. 

Villain took their time as they leaned in, whispering against Hero’s skin, “Oh, my little hero, do not be afraid. I’m just trying to protect you. If you go out into the big scary world, think of all the wrong and evil. But here, with us? You're safe. Now…let’s dine.”

Hero stilled at the arm that wrapped around the waist, pulling them in tight. They let Villain guide them towards the table. They sat when two heavy hands rested against their shoulders.

“So,” Villain 2 smiled, pulling their chair closer to the table as they began to eat, “Doesn’t this feel better…here….with us?” Hero gulped, unable to get rid of the lump in their throat, “Yeah-yes…” They jumped slightly as Villain cleared their throat. “Tha-thank you..”

“Well mannered and all,” Villain 2 smiled.

Hero forced themself to pick up their fork, playing around with the spaghetti, twirling some around their fork before dumping it to the other side of their bowl. Villain tutted disapprovingly, “Honestly, Hero, I thought you were more mannered than that, do not play with your food.” 

Hero’s bottom lip wobbled before they dared to speak, “I..’m not hungry.. I’m so-sorry…” Tears were spilling down their face once more, Hero could feel their cheeks darken from embarrassment. They felt so weak.

“Do you not understand how long Villain 2 took to prepare this meal for us? You could at least eat to show how grateful you are.” Hero bit their bottom lip in desperate attempt to stop it from wobbling so much as they forced the fork to their mouth. 

The food tasted bitter in their mouth but they forced themself to continue to eat, their chest heaving with a silent sob. Just think of the freedom.

On their second forkful, they felt their head tilt forward. They quickly caught themself before their head fell fully into their dinner. Villain’s head tilted, “Everything alright, dear?” Hero blushed, clenching their jaw, “M-mhm..s’rry..” Their movements felt sluggish, every word felt trapped inside their mouth as their lips moved in slow motion.

“Honey, you don’t look well,” Villain 2 cooed, making Hero blush darken, “‘m fi-fine! I-I..” Then it hit them.

Their eyes darted down to their food, the sour taste stuck in their gums. Then their eyes met the two villains’. Their stomach dropped, “Y-you didn't…” 

They went to stand up quickly but their knees buckled and in a flash they collapsed to the ground. When Hero’s eyes cracked open Villain knelt by their side, their hand stroking through Hero’s curls, “Hush, little hero, just remember this is all for your own good. We are going to protect you.”

Hero’s not sure if anymore was said, but slowly, their vision was swarmed by black dots. Villain’s voice echoing through their ears. Hero tried to drown them out with their own thoughts but it was useless.

Just think about the freedom.

like im feeling better about sleeping alone now, like without my cat in my room [normally the cats sleep in the outside conservatiry] like shes in my room today because she got loose and didnt come home until like, an hour ago so shes a-snoozing on my bed and I went outside for the first time today and only momentarily died in the head and had a minor panic attack in the wendys bathroom but still-
