Eduard Angeli, The Leaden Sea (2020)
this was uploaded on tumblr before, but in lower resolution (759 x 589 pixels). I wanted to find a higher-res image of the painting if possible
above the readmore, I linked the artist's website, but I was not able to find this painting there, nor on any of the sites like mutualart which feature other paintings by the artist
reverse image search with google and tineye didn't work either, due to the simplicity of the image when shrunken down
other than that lower-res tumblr posting, the only other instance of this painting I was able to find (by searching the title) was a cached google images result for a listing on Artsy.net. the page on Artsy itself is no longer available (and not on archive.org either)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
however: the image displayed on the google results page isn't actually hosted by google, it's hosted by Artsy (well, hosted by the CDN Artsy uses, which is cloudflare)
Tumblr media
right-clicking this image -> opening in a new tab (or just inspecting the element) shows the image, which is only 639 x 471 pixels, comes from
https://d7hftxdivxxvm.cloudfront.net/?height=471&quality=80&resize_to=fit&src=https%3A%2F%2Fd32dm0rphc51dk.cloudfront.net%2FUS1RZJs5mSBBArfgWQEKvw%2Flarge.jpg&width=640
(the rest of this is pretty much just what's described here)
cutting out everything except the src argument—what comes after “&src=” up until the start of the next argument, “&width=640”—leaves
https%3A%2F%2Fd32dm0rphc51dk.cloudfront.net%2FUS1RZJs5mSBBArfgWQEKvw%2Flarge.jpg
this is an encoded form of the actual image URL (encoded so it can be passed as a parameter). decoding the url (pasting it here and hitting decode) yields
https://d32dm0rphc51dk.cloudfront.net/US1RZJs5mSBBArfgWQEKvw/large.jpg
the image at this address is still just 640 x 472. however, changing the “large” to “normalized” gives
https://d32dm0rphc51dk.cloudfront.net/US1RZJs5mSBBArfgWQEKvw/normalized.jpg
this yields the image at its full resolution, 3450 x 2544 pixels. wooooo image

TNT holds annual event “Experto Experimento 2024”
Tinik ng Teatro (TNT) staged their annual mini-event, Experto Experimento, on May 8 2024, at Adamson University's Ozanam (OZ) AVR with the theme “Saan tayo patungo?” with two performances running from 10:00 AM to 12:00 NN and 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
The event was hosted by drag queens Chopsleek and Astra Summers, who started the event with their solo drag performances, showcasing their artistic talents in drag lip-syncing and dancing.
Later on, judges for the show were introduced, starting with Cheska Manalastas, a former artistic director of TNT and a fourth-year communications student. Ms. Connie Sorgon, a communications professor at Adamson University, and Heart Romero, a movie and theater actress who produced one of TNT’s major plays, “Ang Babaeng Hindi Namamatay.”
Followed by the main highlight of the event; a mini-play titled “Tap, Tap, Aly,” written by Eduard Aquino and directed by Hadwin Parreñas was performed. The story revolves around a girl hoping to be discovered online with the help of her best friend by showing her passion for dancing.
The mini-play consisted of three genres of dances; Hiphop, which was the opening dance of the ensembles, a ballet performance by Francis Ong as “CJ” and Carllyne Bobis as “Kaycee”, one of the main dancers of the play, and a swing dance in a flashback scene executed by Ashley Etorma and Erin De Leon as “Aling Selya” and Juan Condeza and Kurt Andre Damot as “Joey”.
Additionally, at the end of the show, a title song produced by their musical director, Prince Krisswehl, was sung and danced by the actors on stage, making it the final performance of the show.
The main casts of the said mini-play were Samantha Dandin and Andrei Camaligan, who shared the role of “Aly”, the young protagonist. Ashley Etorma and Erin De Leon portrayed “Aling Selya” while Juan Condeza and Kurt Andre Damot played “Joey”. Ayz De Leon and Francis Ong as “CJ”, Carllyne Bobis as “Kaycee” and Baki Tumlos and Seanne Delacruz alternated the role of “Enteng”.
When asked about their experience during their performances, Baki Tumlos, a first-year Information Technology student who played as Enteng in the mini-play stated; “It was a great experience for someone like me who is passionate about theater acting. That was my first time to act a character that didn’t align with my personality and characteristic as a guy, but with the help of my friends and co actors, I managed to handle it correctly and perfectly performed it with my friend,”
“I am honored to have been given the lead role, especially since it was my debut show. Despite the setbacks along the way, we kept striving. It was challenging, but with the help and guidance of my seniors and co-actors, I managed to portray Aly better than expected,” stated Samantha Dandin, a first-year architecture student who played the main character of the show, Aly.
This annual event of Tinik ng Teatro serves as the starting point for apprentices to apply for membership of the said theater organization, testing their capabilities and aiming to improve their skills.

With Professors Ruth Pison (adviser), Grace Concepcion, Pauline Mari Hernando, and Loujaye Sonido (panelists). As panel chair and critic, I was just too happy to endorse Francis Eduard Ang's MA Comparative Literature thesis entitled "Feeling Low Walls: Emotions and Socioeconomic Class in the Short Stories of Estrella Alfon."
Previous studies on Alfon's works have predominantly focused on feminist or formalist frameworks. However, Ang's investigation takes a new perspective by employing Sara Ahmed's theory of the sociality of emotions. Ang's study demonstrates how Alfon's narratives depict and manifest how emotions create boundaries between individuals from different social classes. Through exploring these stories, Ang highlights the points of contact that allow individuals to assess their class positions vis-à-vis others.
From Ang's vantage point, Alfon's men and women are subjects who experience emotions towards objects, thereby establishing a distinct boundary between subject and object. These emotions enable the issues to evaluate the socioeconomic class of these objects, ultimately comparing them to their social standing. Consequently, these stories (e.g., Magnificence, English, The Gentle Rain, Servant Girl, Anguish, Those who love us, Compostela, Man with a camera, Low Wall) reveal that emotions play a pivotal role in enabling individuals to differentiate themselves from those who do not share the same socioeconomic class.
Overall, Ang's thesis sheds light on the significance of emotions in exploring class distinctions within Alfon's fictional universe. By adopting a more comprehensive and nuanced approach, this study offers valuable insights into the intricate dynamics between emotions and socioeconomic class in comparative literary and cultural studies.
Congratulations 🥂
