And this is why I love not only a sport, but a chronic illness that continually pushes me out of complacency and challenges the comfort zone boundaries. Wearing a ‘whale suit’ today is a never that I flippin loved breaking. ‬ . There’s a loss of control that comes with EDS and while it’s natural to fight, there’s a beauty to it that trickles over into other areas of life. ‘Nevers’ become could I’s which leads to maybe’s, then to I’ll try’s and finally I did’s! But *we*, not an illness, control those choices and the degree in which the limits are pushed... however little or small, or even as silly as do I freeze or wear the dreaded wet suit? . Our success is a perception. Tomorrow I plan on going out and challenging the hurdles, keep the mental game sharp by not letting the overly competitive side ruin the day, push my body to swim this race to the best of *my ability* - no one else’s - and give grace where needed. That I can control.
