Mastering Your Fishing Experience at Edmonds Pier: A Guide to Gear and Techniques
Tumblr media
Fishing at Edmonds Pier in Washington offers a unique blend of accessibility and adventure for anglers of all skill levels. Located along the Puget Sound, this public pier is a hotspot for targeting species like salmon, flounder, and perch, all while soaking in stunning waterfront views. Whether you're a local or a visitor, understanding how to maximize your time here—through the right gear, techniques, and preparation—is key to a successful outing. Let’s dive into the essentials for fishing this iconic location.
Why Edmonds Pier Stands Out
Edmonds Pier is more than just a fishing spot; it’s a community hub where anglers gather year-round. Open daily with no entry fee, it’s equipped with fish-cleaning stations and ample space for casting. The pier’s position in the Puget Sound makes it a prime location for seasonal catches, with salmon runs peaking in summer and fall, and bottom fish like flounder available throughout the year. Its accessibility—complete with parking and nearby amenities—makes it ideal for a spontaneous trip or a planned day on the water.
Gearing Up for Success
Your gear can make or break your experience at Edmonds Pier. A medium-action rod, 7 to 9 feet long, paired with a spinning reel, is a versatile choice for most species here. Line strength should range from 10 to 20-pound test, depending on your target. For salmon, a heavier setup with 15-20-pound line works best, while lighter tackle suits perch or flounder.
When it comes to terminal tackle, fishing accessories like jigs, spoons, and buzz bombs are local favorites. A 1-2 ounce jig tipped with a plastic grub can entice bottom dwellers, while a 2-3 ounce spoon is perfect for casting into deeper waters where salmon lurk. Don’t skimp on quality hooks—size 2/0 to 4/0 single hooks or treble hooks ensure solid hookups. Bring a net or gaff, too, as the pier’s height can make landing fish tricky without one.
Weather and Terrain Considerations
The Puget Sound’s weather can shift quickly, so dressing appropriately is crucial. Layering is your friend: start with a moisture-wicking base layer, add a fleece for insulation, and top it with a waterproof jacket featuring waterproof technology to stay dry during sudden rain. The pier’s surface can get slippery, especially after rain, so opt for rubber-soled boots with good traction—fishing rubber boots are a smart investment for stability and comfort.
Sun protection is equally important, even on cloudy days. UV rays reflect off the water, so equip yourself with polarized sunglasses to cut glare and spot fish beneath the surface. A wide-brimmed hat or cap adds extra coverage. For colder months, thermal socks and gloves keep you warm without sacrificing dexterity for rigging lines or baiting hooks.
Timing Your Trip
Timing is everything at Edmonds Pier. Summer and fall are peak seasons for coho and chinook salmon, with July through September offering the best odds. Early mornings or late afternoons align with tidal movements, boosting your chances as fish feed more actively. Winter and spring shift the focus to flounder, cabezon, and perch, with calmer crowds making it a peaceful time to fish. Check tide charts—incoming tides often bring fish closer to the pier, especially near pilings.
Techniques to Hook Your Catch
Casting techniques depend on your target. For salmon, cast spoons or buzz bombs 50-70 feet out, letting them sink before retrieving with a steady, jerking motion to mimic injured baitfish. Bottom fishing for flounder calls for a sliding sinker rig with a 1-2 ounce weight and a baited hook—fresh shrimp or squid works wonders. Position yourself near the pier’s edges or pilings, where fish congregate, and keep your line taut to feel subtle bites.
Patience is key. Unlike marlin fishing in open waters, pier fishing rewards precision over power. Watch other anglers for cues—locals often know the best spots and methods. If you’re new to the scene, don’t hesitate to ask for tips; the community here is welcoming and eager to share knowledge.
Regulations and Etiquette
Washington state requires a saltwater fishing license for anglers 16 and older, available online or at local retailers. Bag limits vary by species—salmon typically cap at two per day, while bottom fish have higher limits—so check the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife for current rules. Respect pier etiquette: give fellow anglers space, keep noise low, and clean up after yourself. The fish-cleaning stations are handy, but dispose of scraps properly to keep the area pristine.
Final Tips for a Memorable Day
Preparation elevates your Edmonds Pier experience. Pack a cooler with ice to keep your catch fresh, and bring a folding chair for comfort during slow bites. Binoculars can help spot baitfish schools, signaling where predators like salmon might be. For gear inspiration, explore resources like fishing essentials tailored to this spot—they’ll guide you on refining your setup.
Safety comes first. The pier’s railings are sturdy, but avoid leaning too far over, especially with kids in tow. If storms roll in, head for cover—lightning and wet piers don’t mix. With the right approach, Edmonds Pier offers not just fish, but a chance to connect with nature and fellow anglers in a breathtaking setting.
Wrapping Up
Fishing at Edmonds Pier blends convenience with the thrill of the catch. Armed with the right gear, timing, and techniques, you’re set for a rewarding day on the water. From salmon in summer to flounder in winter, this pier delivers year-round opportunities. So grab your rod, dress for the elements, and cast off—your next big fish is waiting.

CE NP Damage Calcs
Keep in mind this is for one Servant, but it provides a decent spread that illustrates many ideas at once
This was done with a Level 60 Sasaki with no Golden Fous (+1000 ATK), NP5 with his NP Strengthen. This notably is ONLY NP damage, and many CEs can be more useful than the numbers imply. For example, Imaginary Around is largely better than Royal Icing. This is a good list for illustrating the following:
1) Strength of ATK bonuses. Almost every single high damage CE gives only ATK, with a couple of exceptions (Versus, GUDAGUDA Poster Girl, and Dumplings Over Flowers comes to mind)
2) Multiplicative versus Additive buffs. Any CE that gives a 12% Quick buff is equivalent to a CE that gives a 10% NP damage / Atk up / power mod with the same ATK. Dumplings over Flowers is equivalent to The Infant of Atlus. Imaginary Around does the same damage as Royal Icing (30% Quick vs 25% NP damage)
3) Potential for extremely high damage Sasaki set-ups
I’m not sure how much I’m feeling up to doing this for everyone, because that’s a ton of edge cases (someone should code a tool for this) but it works well enough to paint general guidelines. The only thing not present is Overcharge CEs because Sasaki’s doesn’t boost his NP damage.

African players in Europe: Salah tumbles to first derby loss
Egyptian star Mohamed Salah suffered his first defeat in a Merseyside derby as troubled Liverpool fell 2-0 to arch Premier League rivals, Everton, at the weekend.
The two-time African Footballer of the Year failed to score for the first time in four games and was accused of diving after a theatrical tumble in a failed attempt to win a free-kick.
Burkinabe Bertrand Traore did manage to score for Aston Villa but also finished a loser as visiting Leicester City won 2-1.
We round up the performances of African stars in the major European leagues:
ENGLAND
MOHAMED SALAH (Liverpool)
Everton beat Liverpool for the first time at Anfield since 1999 as Salah endured an evening to forget. Liverpool are now five points adrift of the top four in their bid to rescue Champions League qualification.
BERTRAND TRAORE (Aston Villa)
He scored his sixth goal this season to give Villa hope of a fightback after trailing by two goals at halftime. Traore fired home from close range after Matt Targett's low cross evaded Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
SPAIN
IDRISSA DOUMBIA (Huesca)
The Ivorian midfielder helped Huesca win a five-goal thriller with Granada that keeps the team's LaLiga survival hopes alive. Doumbia was brought on to protect Huesca's advantage after three goals towards the end of the first half gave them a 3-1 lead. Granada pulled one goal back before the hour but Huesca held on for a 3-2 win.
ITALY
FRANCK KESSIE (AC Milan)
After Kessie's Milan suffered in a 3-0 derby defeat to Inter, the Ivorian midfielder urged his teammates to get their push for a first title since 2011 back on track next weekend against Roma. "When you lose it hurts, but we have to raise our heads because there are still so many games to go," said Kessie, with Milan trailing leaders Inter by four points.
VICTOR OSIMHEN (Napoli)
Nigeria forward Osimhen was hospitalised after losing consciousness following a knock to the head in a 4-2 defeat to Atalanta. The 22-year-old was stretchered off the pitch on 90 minutes after hitting his head on the ground following a challenge from an Atalanta defender.
MUSA BARROW (Bologna)
Gambian Barrow had a role in Bologna's goal in a 1-1 draw at Sassuolo, the Atalanta loanee pouncing on a defensive error to pull back for Roberto Soriano to fire in.
GERMANY
EDMOND TAPSOBA (Bayer Leverkusen)
The Burkina Faso defender slotted home a last-gasp equaliser to rescue a point for Bayern Leverkusen in a 1-1 draw at Augsburg, which kept his side fifth. Tapsoba claimed only his second goal this season after being left unmarked to convert a cross by Demarai Gray.
AMADOU HAIDARA (RB Leipzig)
The Mali midfielder put in a solid hour as Leipzig swept past Hertha Berlin 3-0 to trim Bayern Munich's lead at the top of the Bundesliga to just two points. Haidara was solid in the middle of the park before making way for Nordi Mukiele.
IHLAS BEBOU (Hoffenheim)
The Togolese forward opened the scoring in Hoffenheim's 4-0 home romp against Werder Bremen after being put into space behind the defence. "I thought I might have been offside," Bebou admitted to Sky. Bebou has scored in his last three league games to raise his season total to six.
FRANCE
SINALY DIOMANDE (Lyon)
An injury to Brazilian stalwart Marcelo meant 19-year-old Diomande started in central defence for a fourth straight game as Lyon won 3-2 at Brest to get their title bid back on track. Raised in Abidjan, Diomande recently told L'Equipe about growing up in a 15-child family. He made it into football after joining an academy in Mali and from there being picked up by Lyon in September 2019 before becoming a first-team squad regular this season.
LAMINE GUEYE (METZ)
Gueye, 22, scored what turned out to be the decisive goal as Metz won 2-1 at Nice to keep alive their unlikely bid to qualify for Europe. The winger has broken into the Metz team this season, becoming the latest in a long line of Senegalese talents to make a name for themselves with the club. Gueye's Senegalese predecessors at Metz include Sadio Mane, Papiss Demba Cisse, Ismaila Sarr and Kalidou Koulibaly.

“Cult King of Haunts & Certified Cool Dad”; Bobby Roe (Interview)
Admittedly, I’m quite behind the times.
Though, it’s never too late to sink your teeth into a new-to-you horror film, past or present. Specifically for this article, I’d recommend taking a look at The Houses October Built, directed, produced, written, and acted in by Bobby Roe.
This 2014 film started a franchise continued (and topped by) the 2017 sequel, aptly named The Houses October Built 2. Over the past seven years the franchise has become a cult hit, especially with films like The Blue Skeleton, which has been kept very much alive through word of mouth and the internet. (Listen, it’s freaky levels of fourth wall breakage.)
For the October film fraternal twins, Roe not only blurred the line between the frights, scares, and shit-yourself experiences that millions seek every Halloween season in haunted attractions across the US—he also flipped the norm on its head through the first person experience of found-footage films. Both films not only make you feel like you’ll be grabbed right through the screen, but also make you feel like you’re a part of the thrill seeking gang.
The found-film genre has been around for quite some time, popularized in 1999 with films like The Blair Witch Project. Every film under that genre has to constantly find new and innovative ways (sometimes actually getting police involved) to convince filmgoers to give it a shot. Roe not only sought out real haunted attractions within the deep south of Texas and Louisiana but also marketed the first film by creating a very real list of the attractions and making it available to the potential viewing public. By the second, the haunts literally came to them, with park reps and others reaching out to Bobby in hopes of showing the range that the holiday haunts had to offer.
Tumblr media
(Bobby Roe; source - IMDB)
(Article & Interview cont. below)
As of this writing in 2021, Roe is working along with eleven others to form a new anthology horror series called Isolation. As producer Nathan Crooker describes it to Variety:
“Isolation explores the human condition through a genre lens, weaved together in an anthology experience. The films live under a banner of survival and deal with relatable themes such as human connection, paranoia, hope, love, escapism, fear of the unknown, abandonment and opportunism. Like any good horror film, the themes transcend the genre.” (Source)
The filmmakers were only allowed to use whatever resources that they had within their own homes. As for Roe? He got his two children involved in the project.

───────────────
On top of that, he also wrote a children’s book titled Narah the Whale and has multiple projects in the works currently put on hold due to the pandemic.
As an aspiring indie horror screenplay writer, I was so incredibly impressed by the methodical mind of Bobby Roe. I had the opportunity to write up this interview that I held with the Cult King of Haunts and certified Cool Dad.
━━━━━━━━━
1.)  You’re a very involved filmmaker, producer, writer, and father. What was becoming a dad like for you? Also, what was the “a-ha” moment that led your kids, to them becoming involved in the Isolation project?
[Roe: Becoming a father inevitably makes you question some content for better or worse in the horror film business.  My children love Halloween, not sure if that is a hereditary trait or not, but there are enough masks in the house to be infectious. The A-Ha moment was making a film with them.  Initially I was turning the opportunity down.  They are young, and as hard as the lockdown was it gave me an opportunity to spend more time with them in formative years.  I knew how time consuming ISOLATION would be, so I worked backwards and Zack Andrews and I came up with a more Lord of the Flies approach that could involve the whole family.  I'm so proud of my kids on what they pulled off, my daughter in particular was only 5 and she improved a monologue for 7 minutes that I obviously couldn't fully use, but I was blown away.]
Tumblr media
Bobby Roe’s twitter photo of his two children [Source])
--------------
2.) When you were in the process of writing your children’s book, Narah The Whale (alongside friend and fellow RV tourist, Zach Andrews), what wonder from your own childhood did you use as inspiration?
[Roe:  It always bothered me since I was a kid that most people thought Narwhals were mythical creatures.  Just because they weren't in aquariums, people were unaware. I know there is a craze now, but I started this book for my unborn daughter in 2014 to hopefully talk to many children and give them an origin story for their favorite animal.]
------------------
3.) Let’s go back to 2014, during the early success of the Houses franchise. Blurring the lines of what people seek yet also fear came across as a breath of reimagined fresh air.
Question; How long was the actual process of finding the six or so haunts, and did you realize how incredibly accurate the escalating fear was where people actually want to scuffle with the haunt actors?
[Roe:  If people don't feel terrified in a haunt, they think they were ripped off.  We wanted to make the most real found footage movie you could at the time.  I just wanted you to argue what was real and what was fake after leaving the theater.]
-------------
4.) During quarantine, obviously everyone’s plans are put on hold.
Question; What is your current most anticipated project that you’ve got in the chamber, and has quarantine at all changed your view on the horror genre?
[Roe: I'm very proud of what was pulled off with ISOLATION in the height of quarantine with zero crew. It was a kick in the teeth to not be able to film A WICKED TALE in June.  It was postponed with lockdown so I am really looking forward to 2021 to get that in the can. Zack and I have worked almost 3 years on it.]
----------
5.) In slow burn storytelling, what is the biggest obstacle you face as far as keeping a viewer like myself glued to the screen while producing gut churning visuals without blood?
[Roe: It gets harder everyday. Especially with streaming.  I need you to hang around for HOB 1 & 2 for both endings. But if you don't take the slow burn it won’t work.  We knew people would be rude, go to their phones, so I made sure every place and interview you could look up that it was 100% real.  I think that adds to the terror.]
-----------
6.)  In the first Houses film, there are so many hilarious breather moments—from making clown dick jokes, rapping around a campfire, and you even scaring the hell out of Mikey in a mask.
Question: Were there any other hilarious (maybe improvised) moments that we didn’t get to see? And is there any prank competitiveness between you and your brother Mikey?
[Roe: You try to have waves. Goal #1 before scaring you, was to make sure you wanted to be in this RV and on the road trip with us.  I hope that was pulled off. Tried to buck the formula a tad. There is almost no blood and everyone is platonic (despite what people think with Zack and Brandy in bed scene).  That was designed to show lack of bed options and she is like our sister that we protect. Brandy is so good in these movies to me, she is my secret weapon. As far as Mike and I, we compete more with the creative than we do on jokes. Most pranks we are in on it together.]
------------
7.) What non-horror genre literature character would you personally take from any era and turn into a one-sentence pitch for a horror film?
[Roe: Edmond Dantes. The Count of Monte Cristo (wouldn't have to change the title).  But Edmond is murdered but saved as a vampire.  The Count comes back and tears the fucking town apart. Only he and Mercedes are left in the entire town after he stacks the bodies.  They live happily ever after...forever.]
Tumblr media
(”The Count of Monte Cristo, 1888 illustrated edition) (Source; Amazon)
--------
8.) If you could create anything into a “horror film trope” that isn’t already existent, what would it be?
[Roe: Honestly, I want a new kill I've never dreamed of in every horror movie.  So sick of the same shit over and over.  Prerequisite is every slasher needs a new kill or be gone.]
-------
9.) What is the one subject/hobby outside of filmmaking would people be surprised that you’re fascinated by?
[Roe: Scuba Diving. It's very much like horror. You have no fucking idea what's over that reef or abyss.  I love that feeling.  They also say there is 8 billion in undiscovered treasure out there.  That doesn't hurt the adventure.]
It was such a cool experience to bring a fresh perspective from the mind of Bobby Roe. Stay tuned for what he’s got planned for 2021!

Dream.
Kyla Ffyette Tabifranca Adornado a 17 years old Filipino girl from tondo manila wwas just your ordinary girl from the big city at 5’1 ½ she loves to travel. She always look forward for an adventure that will help her to keep her mind and body relax and calm. She also loves to go to museums and other theme parks with my favorite people. She also love to go to beaches. Going at the beach and just hearing the sound of the waves crashing beneath her feet. So one day she decided to be a little bit more adventurous and go to Mt. cristobal Quezon which stands beside Mt. Banahaw, a famous destination for devotees during holy week. Unlike Mt. Banahaw, which is believed to be home of religious deities, Mt. Cristobal is known as the “Devils mountain” besides this kyla still pushed through with the plan bringing along her friend Edmond ferer which is also seeking a new type of adventure Edmond and kyla had go through many things life has thrown at them and along the way Edmond has developed feelings for Kyla but he would rather die than tell her. The night before the trip Kyla had a strange dream about a huge white mansion with a handsome prince standing inside getting ready to walk out and great her but before the prince could even open the door Kyla woke up and for some reason blushing like a tomato but before she could compose herself she heard a knock on her door it was Edmond smiling widely as he greeted her “Good morning Aport” (short for airport) the blushing kyla suddenly turned into an angry one as she smacks Edmond in the head with a pair of underwear she had laying around Edmond blushed but before he could react Kyla had already took it away and slammed the door right in his face Edmond fell down to the floor holding his forehead as he said “H-hey that was just a joke get your stuff ready today is the trip remember?” kyla replied “yeah- yeah go wait in the car” Edmond does what he has been told and kyla proceeded to take a shower but, As the water drip down form the shower head and on to her forehead down to her cheeks with a small mole on it all the way down on her slender body she can’t help to think about the dream she had of the mansion and the mysterious prince that resides in it but as she does so she starts to feel warm inside and decided to stop as she took a look at the time and realized that Edmond has been waiting for her to finish up for over an hour now she quickly ran out of the shower and got ready as fast as she could and meet with Edmond in the car. As their trip ensues there was an awkward silence between the two mostly due to the happenings of the recent morning but a little while after Edmond started to open his mouth to kill the silence her said “hey are you excited to get there?” but kyla is still daydreaming about the mansion and prince but snapped right out of it has she heard Edmonds question and then she replied with “of course this is just what a need after a long year” “yeah I know right?” Edmond replied as the both of them dived into a friendly conversation which lasted the whole trip. As they arrived at the hotel that they would stay together the female employees cant take there eyes of Edmond as he has one of those chiseled body on him but beside all this right after he took the keys to their room he quickly took kyla’s hand and they hurried to the room where they spent the night together (sleeping)
In the morning after they get ready to climb Mt. cristobal, kyla is so excited and said “I can’t wait to put this adventure on our schools newspaper” Edmond smiled and continued to walk to the foot of the mountain they came across an old man carrying some firewood down the mountain and he gave them a warning to always stay together no matter what they hear of see, both of smiled and shrug it off as some sort on wifestale and continued to hike the mountain all day taking pictures along the way of the amazing forest that surrounds them as the day bleeds into night fall they both fell asleep at around 8:00 pm Edmond blushed at how close kyla”s body is to his and how kyla slept like a sweet angel that has fallen out heaven this was his last thoughts before he dozed off to sleep kyla woke up at a strange sound at 2:00 am it was a sound of a guy standing calling for her outside of the tent that she and Edmond are resting she hesitated to look out the tent but she does so anyway but the second she stuck her head out the tent something covered her head and proceeded to carry her away, as she kicked and scream for some time before the thing that’s carrying her throws her to the ground and she hits it with a loud thud as she cautiously stands up and look at where the person carrying her should be, but no one is there as she starts to turn around her eyes widen because of what she saw, it was the white mansion excited she rushed inside to meet her so called prince. The mansion is as big and glamorous as is seems outside and at the top of the stair case there stood a young man with blond hair blue eyes and a big diamond encrusted ring in his middle finger as she gestured her to come closer as she does what she has been gestured to do she was hesitant the moment she reached the young man started to grow horns and tail kyla although frightened calmly starts backing up as the once young man is slowly turning into something straight out of a horror movie and glared at her the beaming red eyes as it lunged towards her with incredible speed, kyla closed her eyes for she knows what’s about to come but when she opened her eyes it instantly got filled with tears as she saw Edmond getting mauled by that thing as the thing look at her and getting ready to attack she woke up sweating and breathe a sigh of relief that it was only a dream. She took a look at her watch and its 1:55 am after that she heard something strange outside the tent..

Textural Details of Heath’s Dorid - Geitodoris heathi
We have a LOT of yellow look-a-like nudibranchs here in the Puget Sound and this is one of them. Heath’s Dorid is often confused with various “sea lemon” nudibranchs, especially the Monterey Sea Lemon, Archidoris montereyensis. However, as you can see in the above photos, Heath’s Dorid has gill plumes that are slightly “dirty” colored compared to the brighter spotted dorsum. Heath’s Dorid also has flatter, smaller tubercles giving it a slightly more smooth appearance. I think Geitodoris heathi, which is a smaller slug overall, is one of the cuter yellow dorids I see diving :)
