Jay Vinyls, Born Jehoram Mckella, is from the town of Grangehill. Located in Jamaica’s most western parish, Westmoreland. Jay Vinyls favored music from an early age, listening to his brother’s sound system and other popular djs & sound systems around town. In 2001 he became a professional Disc Jock – playing as Dr Jay, of his own sound system group called Sound Vega, which lasted 2 years. Then transformed into a disc jock duo Jay & Bobo. The duo made their mark in the local music industry. Jay Vinyls nevertheless had started catching on to house music from in the latter part of the 90’s. Electronic music was not yet popular on the Jamaican party scene so most of his sets could only include 5-10 minutes of the genre. “Saturdays I use to ensure I listened Fame Fm, as Alric & Boyd did a lot of justice to electronic music during their slot”. “I have always loved electronic music no matter the sub-genre or Bpm. In 2010 he went directly into becoming an Electronic Music dj and in 2014 a Dj/Producer. While living in a country that 80% of the population was not in tuned to such musical vibration. The love had him blind and enthusiasm kept him focused. He started hosting his own electronic music events, and also teamed up with friends to bring more of the music to the local scene. “My objective is to continue incorporating my Jamaican Musical Culture & Energy in Electronic Music; play those hot tracks released by other electronic artistes to audiences that might or might not have heard it. Continue to take the music across the Island, the Caribbean, the Globe and soon to the Galaxies” Said Jay Vinyls. Currently Living in Kingston & Ocho Rios Jamaica, arguably Jamaica’s only fulltime Electronic Music Dj/Producer.
