In France we have a weeding protocol called "IOUPI" (that you can translate as "Yippee" basically and yes, I do find that funny as hell) :

I stands for "Incorrect" : The document contains false information, errors. Particularly important in academic/research contexts, it can also be dangerous in public reading (wrong information in a health book intended for the general public transmitting misinformation about cancer, for example, is problematic).

U stands for "Usé (Worn)" : In general the first criterion for weeding, since it focuses exclusively on the condition of the document. This includes irreparable damage (torn pages, broken spines, various and dubious stains, water damage, fungus) but also dirty, smelly, sticky books for all the reasons one can imagine (children are not the only ones to to return books in questionable condition, I have seen Things).

P stands for "Périmé (Expired)" : Widely used in university libraries due to advances in research and to a lesser extent in public reading. This is particularly relevant for everything related to textbooks, law codes, dictionaries, competitive exam preparation textbooks and research books on highly controversial subjects (you can't imagine how much historians can get at each other's throats).

I stands for Inadequate : Often the second criterion used, because it concerns collection management. Is the book borrowed, how many copies do we have, is the content relevant to patron needs, is it adapted to the age/maturity of our patrons, don’t we already have enough resources on the subject ?

Now, I think it might have been mentioned in the reblogs but, why do we weed/prune the collections ?

Lack of space : Libraries are sadly not expandable and in order for the collections to remain accessible without having obnoxiously tight rows of books, it is necessary to make space. The rule I've seen applied most often is "one document bought, one document weeded."

Keep the collection up to date : If we don't remove things, it's impossible to make room for new releases, for literary prize winners, for new trends, and an outdated collection is a collection that dies due to lack of loans and because patrons will go look elsewhere (except in patrimonial libraries, but this is a particular case).

Keep a "nice" collection : have clean books, in good condition, with beautiful covers and layouts, with interesting and accessible content is essential if you want your collection to attract and be useful to your patrons.

And after weeding, what do we do of the books ? What can and cannot be done ?

Storage : Not all books that are weeded are thrown away ! Some are removed from accessible collections and placed in reserve/storage. Some can still be borrowed (the librarian just has to go get it for you), some others are reserved for on-site consultation (this often happens with magazines) and others are kept for conservation/patrimonial reasons (local authors, research books on a specific subject, books considered to be reference material).

Clearance Sale/Thrift : It's a good way for libraries to recover some budget while making reading accessible to as many people as possible. Prices are very low (around 5€ maximum here) and it can become a regular event (every year/every two years).

Donation : Depending on the reason for weeding, certain books can be donated to associations, neighborhood centers, shelters. It's a good way to give them a second life. For several years, we have also seen books being placed in free sidewalk library, to be swapped, exchanged and travel at the discretion of the readers who will take them and return them (or not).

Recycling : Sometimes the condition of the book or its content makes its circulation impossible and it is then “pilonné” (pounded, ground ?). It is not always possible to recycle everything, but since books are mostly made of paper, there are associations and companies specializing in their recycling which enter into partnerships with libraries.

So, as I started to work on this comic, I needed to create a script to make sure I wouldn't get off track nor make it longer than I was capable of completing for the release of BBCR! So i just wanna share some comments + snippets from it under cut. This focuses primarily on the script, rather than the finished product, but i don't mind going over any questions ppl have abt it!

Around the script, Baldi actually had some dialogue where he tends to elongate some words he says, based on smth I noticed in sm of his dialogue. Maybe I'll bring it back smday

The original sketch wasn't formatted how it was, but I edited it! Also because I thought Playtime should be allowed to ramble bc she deserves to. Btw Mommy, Daddy, and Bubby are Substitute Teacher, Principal of the Thing/Vance, and It's a Bully!

Originally, Bully AND Arts were gonna be in the detention center together, due to them fighting w each other (Bully stealing Arts' notebook or using a plastic spider on them)

With this in mind, alternatively, Arts was gonna win the battle, and then turn to you, murderous intent, because you had one notebook! What I'm saying is that Arts fucking charges at you while Baldi + Vance duke it out

I was torn between making this part a comic page or a video, but because I didn't really feel like making a page for zoom-ins (that's literally the only reason i think. so sorry), I did a recording instead. I used Baldi's Basics Plus for free-roam, since I felt Baldi's Basics Classic didn't (i believe it doesn't?? Not until BBCR). Alternatively, I was planning on using a Baldi's roblox game for it, but I couldn't find a good one with free-roam. Realizing I could've possibly used one of those RP games in a priv server, but it ain't the same...

I also needed to find a place to put 1st Prize in! When I was plotting this script in my head, I was thinking of Baldi going in different classrooms, and you'd see Arts and/or 1st Prize, and he'd introduce them, but... that felt too lackluster(?) also i'm very biased w playtime so sorry (/lighthearted)

If I were to remake this comic in the future, I'd like to record the video using the free-roam in BBCR, but also Principal would fucking get me for running all around the place. Also hoping i'd be better at editing by then! (man who uses clipchamp)

btw i was so fucking sure 1st prize says he loves you in game. but apparently he doesn't?? that makes me sad. some time i'll go find the program his tts voice is from and make him say yippee

Speaking of the end of this video, there wasn't gonna be a bite sound effect at the end, but I love sound effects. There was going to be a fnaf minigame end transition as well, but I had already gotten enough viruses downloading the music for the video (/lh)

I wasn't sure I was gonna finish the friend pages on the same page or not, but if I knew, I would've had Null be like "Oh- you're right on time!"
