oh okay I started vol 6 and nonsense began. I guess I forgot homophobia exists? yayoi going "isn't it weird to like a guy? kinda unnatural and you're going to get hurt" and then going all "shit I just wanted to UNDERSTAND and I ended up hurting him first" is realistic, but it's realistic in a very uncreative way? because so far the lads' problems were fun and interesting to perceive, and seeing yayoi just pull a homophobic big sister is so boring compared to them.

"I didn't understand you at all" okay but why? what's here to understand? is it really so hard for a young woman to grasp that people are gay? I'm not asking for a side female character in a bl manga to deeply reexamine her ideas about society and such, nor am I demanding a cloyingly sweet "everyone's human, everyone feels love" solution, but idk, it just doesn't fit here, I feel.

also, this is where the mangafication begins -- yayoi raises her voice in very predictable moments, opens her eyes wide for pretty half-page panels, and tears up in both, and it just... has less of an effect on me? it feels -- ha, take that -- unnatural, like she did it because she was written that way and not because it's her natural reaction. it kinda feels like right around there kzntk started to take shortcuts, and I don't like that very much.

idk I might have liked this scene more if it didn't also resolve in FUNNY SHOUTING, and also showcase kzntk's dialogue problem? yayoi says she noticed akihiko liking haruki, but didn't tell anyone, and haruki goes "...are you serious..." to which she replies with "YEAH I AM SERIOUS, IDIOT!!! HE ALWAYS WANTED YOU TO HELP HIM, HE JUST COULDN'T SAY IT BECAUSE HE'S A WEIRDO" like. 1. I thought haruki would focus on the "didn't tell anyone" part? is homophobia a societal problem in this comic or is it just yayoi being homophobic for... no reason whatsoever, since nothing comes out of it 2. why is she even shouting. what's so funny in here. 3. so she's good at telling what people feel, courtesy of being an art major (???) but she doesn't get homosexuality. okay 😔
