A/N: Hi all! I’m so sorry it’s been a while since I’ve posted any fics in a while. The end of the semester has been wildly busy. However, I return with an Emily fic for @imagining-in-the-margins March and April writing challenge. I made my own prompt that is, a member of the couple isn’t sure they’ll make a good parent; they are reassured by a friend that they will be perfect. This is a continuation of my Moschino and Muddy Water series. You can find parts one, two, three, and four here (linked) You can read this as a stand-alone as well, you just need to know the reader works for a senator. This story kind of humbled me and challenged me as it took a long time to write and I needed to do lots of edits on it. But that is a good reminder for me. Emily walked into the living room of her apartment. y/n and she had recently repainted it a neutral beige that Derek had described as “sad sand” at brunch with Penelope, Spencer, JJ, and Will last month. y/n had nearly choked on her drink as he made the remark. It had been y/n’s idea to repaint their space to a more relaxing color. When y/n had suggested it, Emily had said, “Oh, what brought this on lover? Wasn’t it you last week who mentioned the security deposit on this place?” Em liked teasing y/n about these things because y/n was always a little more impulsive about things. Their dynamic remained light despite the hectic nature of their jobs. The ability to relax and joke in their off time kept both y/n and Prentiss sane. However, they were good at reading each other, most of the time. When things felt heavy or the job was pushing them to the edge of a breakdown, the jokes and teasing went out the window.

Only once had y/n made a joke in poor taste about a case that Emily had not yet fully described, and the tall brunette had snapped. y/n had looked at her girlfriend with shock. Prentiss never spoke to her in this tone nor with the angry expression she had on her face. The silence in the room after Emily's outburst was deafening. Emily instantly felt guilty for how she had reacted. Prentiss cleared her throat and tried to apologize, but y/n said, “Save it. I need a minute.” y/n had moved back to their room and closed the door, and burst into tears. ‘A minute’ turned out to be a long sleepless night for the couple. y/n tossed and turned and wondered if she was overreacting and what she had missed about Emily when she came in with her go-bag. She had seemed fine to y/n as she came in with a smile and normal attitude. Meanwhile on the couch, Emily wondered why she had reacted with such venom. y/n was only trying to lighten the mood, and she hadn’t said how horrible she felt. If she had, Emily knew y/n would hug her and kiss her and make her feel better inside of cracking a joke. Prentiss sat up and looked out the open window onto to the street as a few cars drove by. Emily wondered what brought those driving out so late. Who were they and where they were going? She wondered if they were happy. She slumped back into the couch cushions and missed the warmth of y/n’s snuggled up in front of her and the cool feel of their sheets over them.

In the morning, both Em and y/n had gotten up at the same time. Prentiss moved into their room which she found unlocked. y/n looked up at her. Em could see that she had been crying and the lack of sleep on y/n’s face. Before Prentiss could say anything, y/n stated, “I’m sorry, Emily. I’m sorry for how I acted. Immature and like a child. You didn’t deserve that.” Emily dropped her head and replied, “I’m sorry too. It was wrong of me to shout at you like that. You were just trying to make me happy.” y/n swallowed and said, “I was, but I must have been missing something. Would you tell me about the case, or what caused you to act like that?”

Prentiss nodded and sat down on the edge of the bed taking y/n’s hand in hers. “Yes. Let me explain. Thank you for giving me the time and care to listen.” After a long conversation, the pair set up some boundaries about not keeping things inside after cases for Emily and taking time to check in after she got home for y/n. y/n knew Emily had been acting okay, but in reality, she wasn't. y/n noted that if she was in Emily’s shoes, she might want to laugh after work and a case and y/n thought Emily might feel the same way. So after they had talked and kissed and made up, they both felt a bit crusty and decided to take a shower together.

It felt wonderful as Emily’s strong hands moved down her y/s/t’ed shoulders and back. The soap suds moved down y/n’s back and Prentiss rubbed them over her lush behind and thighs. y/n sighed into the touch. When Emily had finished rinsing y/n off, y/n turned and had Em face the water. y/n placed a dollop of her shampoo that smelled of rose and juniper berry in her palm. Prentiss smiled as y/n’s fingers brushed through her silky dark strands of hair massaging her scalp and then making sure that all of her locks were coated in shampoo before turning Em to rinse off her shoulder-length hair. After a few more minutes the water started running tepid, and y/n and Emily got out and dried off. They spent the rest of the Saturday morning lounging around and getting coffee from the fancy place two blocks over. It felt lovely to be back and not have an argument hanging over them. As y/n opened the door for Prentiss, she thought about how they worked together. They had their moments and arguments like any couple, but all in all, they were steady. It seemed that steady was something new to both of them, and it made them happy and secure in one another. It had made y/n so happy and secure that it had got her thinking about roots, about the future.

A few weeks later, y/n woke up early and realized that Emily was up. She snapped her laptop shut. The sound had Em turn around and look at y/n with just a hint of concern in her dark eyes. y/n smiled and got out of her seat saying, “Good morning, baby. How did you sleep?” Emily’s face broke into a soft smile and she replied, “I slept well. I love it when you’re the big spoon. It makes me sleep like a baby.” y/n got up and wrapped Em in a hug and whispered in her ear, “Well, I’ll have to do that more often then.” y/n inhaled her smell and tried to hide the blush on her face before pulling back and saying, “Do you want some breakfast and coffee? Or maybe a mimosa. I feel like cooking something if you want.” Prentiss nodded and said, “I think I could go for some blueberry or chocolate chip waffles if you’re down to make them.” y/n nodded and replied, “Of course. What are we feeling for drinks?” Em let out a small laugh and said, “Well, how about I make us lattes and you pop open some prosecco? We’ve still got juice in the fridge too. I’ll get the glasses.” y/n nodded knowing that Emily didn’t like popping corks -- a quirk that y/n thought was so cute. Em turned away to get the fluted glasses for the mimosas and while her back was turned she considered how y/n had been acting the last few days. It was like she was holding some secret. When y/n’s computer was in front of her, y/n always seemed to close it quickly or move it so she couldn’t see the screen. It wasn’t only that. Sometimes she was on the phone and talking quietly to someone she didn’t know. The pit in Emily’s stomach grew. And yet when she looked back at y/n who was humming her new favorite song while pulling eggs out from the middle row of the fridge.

This was so unlike y/n to hide things from her. When it had first happened, Emily thought that maybe y/n was cheating but that wasn’t something that y/n would do unless she had really misread her girlfriend and their relationship wasn’t going anywhere. This bothered Prentiss because she was planning on asking y/n to marry her in a month on their second anniversary. Even if things weren’t good with them, which y/n’s behavior indicated otherwise, Prentiss was uncomfortable with y/n hiding things from her. Em had a good way of feeling out people, and y/n had seemed more excited to be with her recently, so all of the messages both verbal and nonverbal were throwing her for a loop. Prentiss was going to talk to JJ and Penelope about it on Monday to see if they had any insight into what was going on. At this point, y/n and the rest of the girls on the BAU were thick as blood. Em took a breath and decided to not let her self-doubt ruin their relationship. She had let that happen before, and even though it had turned out to be a good thing, Emily didn’t want to do that here. She loved y/n, and she knew y/n loved her. If y/n needed to tell her something, Emily knew she would, even if it was something difficult to hear. Prentiss fixed her face and took a breath before setting the glasses on the counter for y/n who leaned in and gave her a kiss before she moved to the coffee maker.

y/n started mixing up the waffle batter. y/n didn’t like keeping things from Emily, but this was such a big subject to even bring up, and she wanted to have all of the facts beforehand. Not so that she could try and argue her point with Emily, but so she was sure it was what she wanted. But the more y/n looked at their options of getting pregnant, the firmer y/n was about her desire to start a family with Em. It was a conversation they had had before. A shared desire to have kids and raise them in a house full of love and tenderness that neither y/n nor Emily had had as children growing up on opposite sides of the globe. So the topic of wanting kids wouldn’t be a shock, just how quickly y/n was bringing it up. And if Emily said she needed more time, y/n would wait, but she couldn’t deny that her baby fever was growing thanks to JJ’s pregnancy and some recent laws passing. The whole idea made y/n’s stomach flutter in both delight and worry. Thankfully y/n was almost ready to tell Em, and again there would be no secrets to hold, just a future to plan, whatever that looked like for them.

The following Monday at work, Emily found Penelope in her office with its room full of screens and trinkets. Prentiss smiled at how Garcia’s personality shone through wherever she was. Em found the tech whizz inspirational in that way and many others. Garcia was busy typing something on her laptop and Emily had called her name twice already. Without any other options apart from pulling the plug on one of Penelope's babies, Emily tapped her on the shoulder instead. The genius shot out of her seat and Prentiss was eternally grateful that Gacria wasn’t holding one of her large cups of soda. “My God Emily, are you trying to get me out of my skin?” Penelope retorted when she had caught her breath. Em smiled and said, “It was that, or pull the plug on your computer. I thought you’d appreciate the latter. I did call your name twice.” Garcia let out a shaky laugh and said, “Okay, well lord, I have to stop listening to music so loud when I’m at work. Hotch got mad at me for it once already and somehow he’s always right because I don’t want to be scared like that again. So what brings you to my cave today dear? Need me to cast a love spell on you?” Prentiss laughed and replied, “Well I’m okay on that front. A clarification spell might be more in order. Are you back on the RPG game again?” Garcia blushed and said, “Maybe, maybe not. Anyhow, does the team need my presence?” Em nodded her head no, sat down on the ledge of Penelope's table, and said, “Not right now. I was just wondering if y/n had talked to you recently. She’s been acting kind of strange in the last three weeks and I just wanted to know if she has something planned?”

Penelope was buzzing in her seat because she had an answer but had promised y/n that she wouldn’t say anything to Emily about it. y/n had discreetly asked around the office if anyone knew someone who had IVF treatments before and would be willing to talk candidly about the process, how much it cost, and the pros and cons of the procedure. The only other person who did know someone who had gone through In Vitro Fertilization was Rossi, but Dave didn’t think that person would want to discuss such an intimate part of their lives with a stranger, even if it was a friend of his. However, Penelope had a good friend named Shayla back from her college days who was now a happy single mom and had moved to the Virginia area last year for a new job with her little boy. y/n had met Shayla once before, and when Garcia brought her up as a possibility, y/n almost begged her to ask Shayla if she was comfortable talking about the long process. When Pen brought it up in their next catch-up call, Shayla happily agreed to share her knowledge. She had done plenty of research before deciding to move forward with having a child on her own, understood the great sacrifice and fears that could come with it, and was happy to give any helpful information she had. Of course, this conversation had prompted Penelope to ask y/n why she was asking and y/n had revealed that she was thinking of asking Emily to have a baby with her. Garcia had freaked out, jumping up and down in excitement. y/n had to stop her from running out of the room and shouting at anyone that her friend was getting pregnant. Once the blonde analyst had settled down, y/n took a breath and said, “Now Penelope. I know you’re excited but I’m just in the research stage which sounds calculated when I put it like that, I haven’t told Emily about this yet and I need to be sure I feel confident before I spring this on her. Could you please please, please not tell her?” Garcia nodded seriously and said, “My lips are sealed. I pinky promise.” y/n let out a sigh of relief.

But as Garcia was faced with Emily now, it wasn’t as easy as telling y/n her secret was safe. It was threatening to burst out of her seams and she needed to come up with an excuse fast or risk losing a dear friend in y/n. Penelope cleared her throat and said, “Hey, Em. I kinda stayed up all night playing that game and well as you can see I’m running numbers for Stan’s team….” She gave her best pleading eyes that seemed to work on everyone. Prentiss let out a soft laugh and replied, “Alright, What flavor do you want grape, Cola, or orange?” Pen smiled brightly and said, “Orange, please. You are a lifesaver!” Emily patted her on the top of her blond head and said, “Well just hope Hotch or JJ doesn’t call a new case while I’m gone. You should get someone to install controls or something on your system at home to stop you from staying up twenty-four-seven.” Garica scoffed, looked at Emily’s retreating form, and said, “Baby, if anyone could crack into my harddrive, I’d let them.” As Emily moved out of the office and toward the 7-11 to get Penelope’s soda, she felt relieved. Not that she fully believed nothing was happening with y/n, but if the team hadn’t noticed anything, then, it made her feel better. Once Emily was out of sight, Penelope whipped out her phone and texted y/n: “Emily is asking questions, baby girl. I’d start thinking about asking her soon or she might find out what you’re doing.”

The week moved by quickly with lots of paperwork for Emily and the start of a new campaign cycle for y/n who moaned about it as much as possible without being annoying to Em. It didn’t help that the senator y/n worked with had gotten themselves into another scandal that was rocking their office and party. When y/n was going on a rant about corruption on Friday night Emily hugged her from behind, kissed her temple, and said, “I’m sorry sweetheart. I know it’s annoying, but you're good at your job even if it’s a bad system. But that doesn’t make you bad.” y/n relaxed into Prentiss’s embrace. y/n let out a sigh and said, “I’m sorry for going off. I know it’s annoying.” Emily nuzzled her face into y/n’s neck to relax her further as she whispered, “Don’t apologize y/n. Work can be agonizing sometimes, I know that as much as anyone. If it bothers me I'll tell you. Now, how about we do something fun tomorrow? We could get brunch at that place we like in midtown. You know the place where you asked me out officially?” y/n’s face broke out into a smile and she said, “I’d love that Em. Sorry if I’ve been a little distant right now. I’ve been thinking about some things and I want to share them with you in the morning. It’s nothing bad or anything, but something I just want to discuss with you. You’re everything to me love, and I’m so happy we’re together.” Prentiss’s heart fluttered knowing that y/n was finally going to tell her what was going on. Her words were reassuring, that it ‘wasn't’ bad’ or ‘anything bad about her,’ but even so, her nerves sang inside as they both headed to bed.

In the morning, y/n woke up slightly early for a Saturday and got into a hot shower. She washed her body in _y/f/s_ed body wash. She then moved to her hair and shampooed and conditioned it. Lastly y/n shaved so her legs were smooth. When she stepped out of the shower, Emily was up. y/n walked into their room in a towel, and Em looked up from the bed, Her brown eyes got wider and she said, “Well, good morning, love?” y/n smiled and said, “Morning sweetheart.” y/n dropped her towel, and lazily crawled on the bed. Emily followed her with her eyes and her tongue slipped out of her mouth and wetted her lower lip subconsciously. y/n grinned and moved over Emily’s body and kissed her gently at first and then with more passion. Em snaked her hands around y/n’s hips. Once y/n’s tongue was slipped into Emily’s mouth, her fingers moved to y/n’s hair and tugged it gently at the root. After y/n and Prentiss were desperate for air, y/n pulled away and moved onto her knees before saying, “Maybe we should get dressed or we’ll miss brunch sweetheart.” Emily whined and said, “Do we have to?” y/n laughed and replied, “I think so. I’m in need of a good mimosa and waffle. Plus, we can get right back to this when we get back if we want.” Emily sat up and brushed her thumb over y/n’s jaw before saying, “Alright love. Give me a few minutes to get ready and we can go. It’s good if we go sooner though because you know how crazy that place gets after 11:00.” y/n nodded in agreement as she moved to the closet to pick out a spring dress and some matching jewelry while Emily used the bathroom and vanity to get ready. Emily chose a pink jumpsuit that fit her curves perfectly and was strapless showing off her lovely shoulders and neck.

y/n and Emily got to the restaurant before the big rush and were seated outside at a quiet corner table surrounded by a fence and hedge that gave the space a cool and calm feeling away from the bustle inside and the rush of cars outside. A waiter came and got their drink orders and while he was there, Emily and y/n also ordered pain au chocolat. Emily got a glass of white wine and y/n got a pomegranate mimosa, and they both got coffee. The lean man noted what they wanted and moved away. The wait time at this spot was longer giving people time to relax and talk. y/n looked at Emily wondering if she should start the conversation. Emily returned y/n’s smile, her face looking radiant in the glow of the midmorning sun. Prentiss shifted in her seat and said, “You’ve been looking so happy the last few days. Whatever it is you have to tell me I just want to say I’m so happy to see you like this. I wish every day could be like this. That there wasn’t the stress or worry of our jobs looming over us. But you make me feel safe and seen every day, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Once Emily said the words aloud, the idea in her head sprang so full and bright that she felt like she might be bowled over by a small breeze. The idea had been there for a few months but she hadn’t planned it. Certainly hadn’t even dreamed of it being like this, but it felt so right. When she looked over at y/n who was clearly saying something, Emily thought for a brief moment that she might be looking at the sun, blinding it it’s light and radiance. Prentiss cleared her throat and mind and finally heard y/n repeat, “Are you alright darling? You were in your own world there for a second.” Emily nodded now knowing what she was going to do and said, “Yeah I’m good. I just had an idea. So I suppose I have something to tell you too. But you go first. What was it you were wanting to tell me today that you’ve been so secretive about?” y/n blushed and felt better now that they both were going to say something, though she had no idea what Emily had up her sleeve. y/n replied, “Well why don’t you go first.” Prentiss shot back teasingly, “No you first.” They repeated this one more time before they both blurted out at the same time:

“I want to have a baby with you.”

“I want to marry you.”

When Emily and y/n both registered what the other had said they were stunned into silence. y/n felt her chest tighten with emotions that threatened to bubble over. She composed herself first and asked in awe, “Emily Prentiss, are you proposing to me right now?” Emily took a shallow breath in at what y/n had said about wanting a baby and y/n’s question and, she said, “I am, sweetheart. It just felt right right now. I don’t want to spend another day without you being mine in the most real way possible. Time just goes by so fast and as soon as we know it we’ll both be grey and have bad knees. We’re both gone so often from each other so I’d like you to be mine if you’re willing to be. y/n, will you marry me?” Emily got out of her chair and onto one knee. Again she was glad they were in a quieter part of the restaurant. y/n nodded her head yes and fell to her knees next to Em embracing her in a hug and saying, “Yes, Oh of course I will. I love you so much, I want my whole life with you.” They both stayed there for a moment on the brick floor before Emily raised her head from y/n’s shoulder wiping her own eyes of the salty liquid at her corneas before pulling back and helping y/n to her feet. They hugged properly with a tight embrace that said they would never be apart for longer than they had to be, and even when they were apart, they would still be together. Em pulled back and said, “I’m sorry I don’t have a ring for you, but it just felt right to ask you now. I promise I’ll get you one that’s just perfect.” y/n smiled and said, “I know whatever you pick out will be perfect love.” She leaned in and planted her mouth on Emily’s and they both let go of each other with a feeling of lightness and ecstasy that neither had expected this morning in bed. Just as they both sat down, the waiter returned with their pastries and drinks on a tray. He set all the plates and glasses down and said he’d be back in a bit to see if they needed anything else.

Once he had gone, y/n and Emily raised their glasses to their engagement and y/n said, “To the best fiance I could ever ask for!” As they clinked glasses Em added, “And to my favorite person in the whole world.” They both took sips of their drinks and what y/n had said resurfaced to the front of Prentiss’s mind after the euphoria of y/n saying yes to her proposal dimmed slightly. Em leaned forward and asked, “y/n you want to have a baby?” y/n flushed and nodded sheepishly. Suddenly talking to Emily about this made her feel nervous. With a steadying breath y/n replied, “Not just a baby Em. I want to have your baby. I’ve been researching reciprocal IVF. Looking up what the procedure is like for both parties, how expensive it is, and where there are clinics nearby that we could visit and consult with. I even went as far as talking to some people who’ve done it before to see how their experience was for them. That’s what I’ve been researching for the last few weeks. And I know this sounds so fast. Like I’m rushing. I don’t mean to pressure you into making a choice now or next week or month or even year. I just want you to know that I’d love to build a life with you. A life that might include children in the future if that’s something you're interested in. I just wanted to have all the facts I could about what that would possibly be like before springing something this big on you” Emily absorbed the information and took a sip of her drink. She said with a smile, “Look at you doing your research. Not that you don’t research, but I think we’re rubbing off on each other. You’re making me more comfortable in making big moves like proposing while I’m making you research a topic as much as possible.” y/n laughed and said, “Well, I guess that makes us pretty compatible, huh.” Emily chuckled and continued to think about what y/n had just said.

It wasn’t something they had talked about recently, but children was a topic of discussion they had had and it made Emily relieved to know that y/n left that secure in their relationship that it was something she was seriously thinking about. Now that they were engaged, it only made more sense, even though y/n couldn’t have known that coming into today. For a moment Emily pictured y/n cradling their baby, and then a toddler running around their apartment, and the child grown up and going off to school. Prentiss pulled herself from the film playing in her head. As lovely an image as it was, it was a lot to think about. She lifted her eyes up to y/n’s nervous gaze. Prentiss moved her right hand to y/n’s and held it across the table saying, “I think that’s a beautiful idea y/n. It is a lot to think about. I do appreciate that you’re comfortable enough to tell me something that’s really important to you. Would you mind if I give it some time to think through?” y/n squeezed Emily’s palm and replied, “Take all the time you need love. There’s no rush.” Prentiss felt a surge of warmth move through her not associated with the fact that she was sitting in the sun. Having someone as passionate and who understood her so well was the best thing that could have happened to her. Emily did wonder if something had prompted y/n into her desire for children. She’d never been one to have baby fever before now and the shift was interesting to her.

Emily watched y/n sip her drink and relax in her chair a bit. Prentiss asked, “Sweetheart, what sparked your desire for kids if anything? Or did it just sort of happen?” y/n sighed and said, “It’s been coming for a while I think, but things have made it speed up for me I suppose.” Emily nodded her head as if to say, “Keep going, love.” y/n placed her palms flat on the table and continued, “I guess that so much crazy stuff has been happening in the country recently. I know you know that. We both do as we work in the government, but the upturning of Roe V. Wade and all the crazy abortion bans popping up all over the place. I suppose I just don’t want to be too late. Like one day we both decided it was time and by then we didn’t even have that option. I don’t mean to sound melodramatic or to push you in any way, we have time, it’s just made me prioritize some things in my life that I hadn’t given too much thought to before now. I mean if Alabama can almost stop IVF then I’m afraid of what might come after that. I suppose having a child became more important to me the more things like that happen here.”

Emily gave a soft smile, she could more fully see where y/n was coming from and it made sense with her personality. Em moved her hand across the table and stroked her cheek gently before saying, “That makes sense darling. I’m going to have to think about it for a while before we do anything, but maybe when we get home, you can tell me a bit more about the process, and the cost. If we commit to something like this we’re going to need to be saving for some time.” y/n chuckled and said, “Take all the time you need darling. We can save money for that and a wedding too.” Emily paused and said, “Do you mind if I don’t tell the team right away about the engagement? I just want to get a ring and have it be a bit more put together because once I tell them, we’re going to be swamped with questions from JJ, Garcia, and Rossi.” y/n snorted and covered her mouth at how accurate Emily was. She could picture that conversation happening and how Garica would pounce on Em and then how she’d get ten calls for Penelope and then some texts and another call from Dave congratulating her. Since y/n had gotten to know the team more, Rossi had become a father figure which made her heart warm. y/n replied, “Yes, of course sweetheart. That will be a day to remember. Almost as exciting as getting to say yes to you Mrs. Prentiss.”

Shortly after this their waiter came back and got them a second round of drinks and they ordered some plates to share. The weekend flew by as always, and Emily showed up at Quantico with an excited air about her. The team slowly rolled into the bullpen on work days like they normally did. Em and JJ passed through security at the same time, and JJ who was now very pregnant asked Prentiss, “You seem preoccupied today. Is something up?” Emily tried to stay cool and said, “Nope, well apart from the fact that y/n and I had a late night last night.” Em gave JJ a wink and JJ shot her a sly smile replying, “Well that would make you pretty tired I suppose.” Emily laughed and the two women moved up to their floor. Prentiss hadn’t been lying about y/n and her last night. They’d spent a few pleasurable hours both in the shower and the bed solidifying their bond. Telling one truth and omitting two others felt better than a flat-out lie. Emily was a mix of emotions today and it did make her feel and perhaps look different which she was trying to hide. She was incredibly happy about the unofficial engagement but nervous about y/n’s question. It was more than a question, it was a whole new part of their life if they pursued it. Emily spent a good deal of the morning telling Spencer and Penelope that nothing was wrong and that she was fine but tired. Even Aaron gave her a look saying that he knew something was up. But Hotch didn’t always have the time for gossip and he trusted and knew Em enough that if she was having a serious problem, she could come to him anytime night or day. By lunch time, Prentiss felt a little bit more emotionally drained than she had coming into work. She hardly noticed Derek sneak in behind her to use the microwave when her leftover pasta was finished reheating.

Morgan said over the hum of the microwave, “So you told Spence and Garcia everything is fine and you gave Hotch that look that it’s all cool and they left you alone, but you're one of the most put-together people on the team and something is off. Keeping secrets is a burden and I’d think you’d like at least one person to know what’s playing in your mind on repeat. Listen if we go on a case or something then it might make you slower. Would you please tell me what’s going on? I won’t tell anyone else. You know I’m also good at keeping a secret.” Derek’s appearance startled Emily, and she jumped at his first few words but calmed quickly as she listened more intently to what he was saying. She bit the inside of her lip. The problem was she knew Derek was right and somehow that bothered her. However, Morgan would be as good a person to tell as any. Their bond was strong, but not as interwoven as the rest of the team. And he was good at keeping quiet. Prentiss deflated slightly and decided to be honest with Derek saying, “Okay but this stays between us, please?” Morgan nodded his consent and indicated for Em to continue. Emily thought of the proposal but knew the issue that was bugging her was what she should say. Finally, she stated, with a slow caution, “y/n wants to have a baby with me.”

That response was far from what Derek had been expecting, and he blinked a few times just to ensure he’d heard correctly. Slowly a smile crept to his face replying, “That’s amazing, Em!” Emily nodded lightly and Derek was confused as to why she wasn’t showing the same joy he was. He cleared his throat lightly and asked, “Do you not want that Emily?” Prentiss let out a long sigh and said what she’d been thinking about since last night: “I do think I want kids in time. And y/n and I have talked about that before now. We talked about it before we became serious.” Derek was confused by her hesitation and asked, “Is y/n like, rushing you into this?” Emily nodded no and replied, “No not at all. She knows me too well for that. She did a bunch of research beforehand and told me there wasn’t any rush. And also that if kids wasn’t something I was interested in she and I could talk about it.” This reply left Derek even more confused and he scratched the back of his head. Finally, Morgan asked, “So, why are you upset exactly?” Em came out with it and said, “What if I’m a bad mom? I can see y/n being the most loving and caring parent in the world, but my track history with my mother just doesn’t indicate that I’m going to be that competent a parent.”

When Emily got to the point of contention, Derek couldn’t help but chuckle, and Prentiss lightly slapped his board arm and said, “Don’t laugh at me, Morgan.” Derek managed to stop his chuckling and say, “I’m mainly laughing at your wording, Em. I don’t think any parent would say they are ‘competent.’ And if you’re going to question me on that, ask Hotch if he thinks he’s a competent parent with Jack or JJ with her baby. I swear no one has it all figured out.” Emily was still hesitant and Derek continued, “Emily no matter what you decide it’s going to be the right thing. I know you and y/n won’t jump into anything, but if you ask me, I think you’ll make a fantastic parent.” Emily could tell that Morgan was no longer joking and she asked, “Why do you say that?” She was genuinely curious to hear how he would answer. Morgan leaned against the wall and replied, “Well you could just call it intuition, but the other sign to me is how in tune with yourself and y/n you are. You notice things about everyone, especially y/n. If you decide to have a kid together that will be the most loved child ever. You may not have it all figured out, but with how much you care about each other, I know you and y/n will figure out the rest. You’ll be a great Mom Em.” Emily felt her heart warm slightly and the original image of a child running around her and y/n’s apartment, or the park, or a variety of other idyllic scenes came back in a rush. She knew this wasn’t always going to be the reality, but she felt encouraged and replied to Morgan, “Thanks, Derek. I appreciate that. And thanks for letting me ramble.” Derek smiled again and was happy to see Emily happy. He said, “You got it Em. And my lips are sealed.” Emily felt much better the rest of the day having one person know what she was thinking about. It helped so much that after she had talked about it, she found it much easier to work.

It was a few weeks later as Prentiss had found the right ring for y/n, and she and y/n had talked about breaking that set of news to the team that Emily came up behind y/n who was standing at the kitchen counter. Prentiss hugged y/n gently from behind and said softly in her ear, “y/n, I want to try. I want to try for a baby with you.” y/n froze and then turned around slowly in Emily’s arms and said, “Really?” Emily nodded and replied, “Really baby. I want some time before we go for it, but I want to be with you.” y/n felt her eyes well with tears of happiness. Her life had felt so empty and barren before she met Emily. Now life felt so full. She was getting married to the best woman ever, and they were planning a family. A lot was yet to come in their journey, but for now, everything was perfect. As the tears started rolling, y/n mouthed, “I love you so, so much Emily,” as she leaned in with her tear-stained face and kissed Em with all the love she could give. Emily wrapped her arms around y/n and kissed her back. Yes, time went quickly, but together they would make the most of every minute there was between them and the family they were planning.

This is totally not a submission but I kinda want your take on this.

So I have this book on tumblr so I decided to place it on Wattpad in case someone wants an offline version. There was this one person that seems to enjoy it so far but as of recently uploads they commented something. (Image down below)

I don't know what to reply back. I know I'm not the strongest writer but l've seen people write and get tons of compliments n stuff, so I'm like, "I'm sure they won't mind my skills." And after this comment it made me more insecure and anxious every time I want to post in the next chapter or another book.

To some people it's nice to have feedback n criticism is 100% fine.

I know you reblogged something similar to how people are commenting, or putting their own opinion about other fanfics and how people are not commenting and it just got me wondering about this comment again.

Wasn’t even about the grammar because that’s what I’m most worried about. It was about how the chapter was formed. And for the past year, that’s what I’ve been working. So idk how to feel.

I’ve been writing for quite some time and this is the first time I’ve built the confidence to post something like this.

I know I shouldn’t be overreacting, but I’ve edited this chapter/arc on and off for the past year and even posted it on Tumblr before I took it down to re-edit it. I just want your opinion on this thing or am I just jumping too high? I just don’t know how to respond back to this. I don’t want to spoil anything, and I don’t really know what point of the chapter was so different than the previous one because it was a cliffhanger and the next one, it continued right after so…🤷🏾‍♀️

(I crossed out her name because I don’t know if you would reply back and I don’t want people harassing her) Don’t get me wrong, they’re an extremely nice person and sweet, she literally be the only person commenting under the story lol. And I love her for that.

Hi honey, first of all, I'm glad you asked! And I in fact would not send hate a person's way, don't worry ednfjb. As for what I think, I feel like as a reader, if you're confused, you should maybe ask questions like "hmm, I don't understand why character A did this or character B did that, when" or something along those lines you know? And it's nice to have feedback/constructive criticism, so I get them being a sweet commenter.

However 😌 I do believe that suggesting an author has not taken the time to edit their work is undermining all the hard work, blood, sweat, and tears that you've put into your stories, and it seems quite rude. You don't have to be the strongest writer or the best, but you worked hard and you continue to practice and get better with every story you create and edit. I don't think you're overreacting, because every time you write, you grow and change as an author, and if a chapter felt different or confusing, they should've politely said "hey, this part confuses me." Not just up and decided to say "you don't edit your work, let me know if you need me to do it." It might not have been intended to sound that way, but it comes off that way regardless. I don't know what to say to that either to be honest.

How you form your chapters is how you form your chapters! Don't let one odd comment stop you or make you doubt yourself, because your stories deserve to be written and seen, exactly the way that you write them! I promise you'll be the author you want someday, and you'll still have room for growth. (I'm still very taken aback that this person would even suggest that btw like, please don't think it reflects on the work you put into it, and no shade to her but that just seems so rude imo. If it was a cliffhanger and then continued...did she skip something?).

When will you continue the Cain Clef Comics?

As soon as I regain motivations and interest in Arcane Odyssey again! Don’t wanna do it when I have no will to do so. That’d only make my art and story all sloppy and not very interesting.

Blog Update

Hello everyone! I know it's been a while since I first said I'd be taking a break but I realised I needed longer away from constantly making edits and that I'd have to figure out a way to make running this blog more sustainable. It did begin to feel like chore to try to rattle through everyone's requests and having a break from doing them all made that more clear to me. Don't worry I'm not abandoning this blog, far from it! I will however be making some changes to how I run the blog to ensure it says enjoyable for me as well as being managable alongside my uni work. (Whilst this year I don't have to write a dissertation, next year I do and I would like to futureproof because I intend to keep this blog running a while).

First off just a bit of general stuff. There are currently 5 new posts in the queue, one of which is a submission and the others are my own post. I am thinking of making a few more edits tomorrow but we shall see.

Requests:

This is probably the area that will see the most change as these are what came to cause me the most trouble when trying to feel motivated to continue working on the blog.

I shall now be operating a request limit system where I only accept a fixed number of requests before closing them until my ask box is empty of requests. The current limit is 5 but this may be subject to change

I will not be carrying out any of the outstanding requests of which there are 28. There are a few ideas I really like in there but I don't think it would be fair on everyone if I only pick certain ones to fulfil. If you still remember and still want a specific request done please feel free to leave another one

I will now require that requests for images from a certain fandom are accompanied by specific images or link to a wiki page that contains images that you would like me to edit. This is to save me time when trying to get specific images, especially with fandoms I'm not familiar with as well as relieving any doubts that the image I would have picked is not what you had in mind

Frequency of posts:

Before taking my break this blog had daily posts for just over 4 months and whilst that was awesome it was draining to maintain. That is why I am now going to be less strict with myself in trying to keep daily posts up. When I make edits I usually sit down and make a few to a lot at a time so there will be periods of daily posts then periods of nothing. I really appreciate getting submissions and these would help break up the periods of nothing so please feel free to send in submissions.

I hope I've explained everything clearly here but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to reply to this post! I will be updating the intro post to reflect these changes as well as changing the format to make the rules a bit clearer. I shall reblog the intro post once the changes have been made.

Hi there!

Hey guys, I'll admit it.

I'm not sure what I'm doing.

But I'm a writer, musician, and Zelda enthusiast! I write for Linked Universe mainly (Illegible_Handwriting on ao3) and I figured I should make a Tumblr, so here we are! I like a bunch of other things too, though (marble hornets, stormlight archive, gravity falls, unravel 2, metroid, doctor who, the owl house, rottmnt, ben drowned/awakening, generation loss, episodes 4-9of star wars, HUMAN RIGHTS DAMMIT, just to name a few) so I'll pretty much post whatever I want to.

I swear a lot, so be warned.

Nonbinary (and everyone is hella valid, homophobes/terfs/transphobes/racists/ableists/anti-Semites etc. beware >:( so be nice everyone)

I use "#illeg scribbles" for my writing, and #chicken scratch for any other rambles or posts I make. #reblog is exactly what it sounds like!

#smoke & ashes has its own tag, and so does #dear four chronicles! #the chosen and the champion also exists but I don't really use it anymore because I'm working on s&a, so if you want updates on that, use the smoke & ashes tag thx :D

And I don't know how active I'll be on here (probably not a lot) but we'll see how this goes! If I'm not active, don't be alarmed, that'll be normal probably lol.

The Chosen and the Champion series (in progress)

The Chosen and the Champion (Switch gang tribute): Completed. A ton of Wild and Sky content because I saw Skyward Sword on Switch and went FUCK yes. This got off the rails very quickly. Just read all of them at this point, cuz I don't know what I'll bring back next. Chapter 20 and onwards is Exploring Sky's Hyrule.

Smoke & Ashes: Incomplete and in progress!! continues where C&C left off, with a huge fucking focus on Sky's adventure, specifically the end. However, unlike most fics, people are NOT very happy or forgiving with Sky. If you know, you know. VERY ANGST HEAVY. PLEASE READ ALL THE TAGS AND WARNINGS.

Like Mounds of Molten Gold: Incomplete and in progress!! Just a bunch of extra content for the C&C universe! Some are companion pieces to a specific chapter or section, while some are just random shit. There might be cut content every now and then. All of them help to give a deeper/more enjoyable experience to the main fic (in my opinion).

There it is again, that funny feeling...: Incomplete and in progress!! multi-chapter. It's a bunch of different ideas all stemming from the same base question: "what if Sky was the Fierce Deity?" Each chapter is a separate AU. Please heed the warnings on this one.

Imagine all the fun you and your future self could have, if only you had a driver's license: Completed. multi-chapter. Long-ass title because I never thought of a better one. Basically, pre-LU Wild and Sky are in Mariokart! Bunch of crack. Lots of fun.

Hello, my name is topaz. I am 25+ and he/they. I run several other blogs, including ones in this space. I work full-time and am disabled so I may not always be active. If you rush me for replies, I will not want to write with you. As someone with serious chronic conditions, there are times in which I will be unable to reply. If this is something you cannot tolerate in an rp partner, we may not be compatible. In addition, I tend to prefer longer replies bordering on novella and so even if I do not intend for a thread to get long, it may. This blog is multi-verse and multi-ship. Mains get priority but I am not exclusive.

Recently, there was an incident involving a former friend of mine in which he behaved very very strangely and cruelly to me. His name is Jay and/or JJ and he was not happy when i put him into a DNI after he hurt me very badly. He tried to make a callout about me to twist what he did and act like the victim. I never saw the post itself because I cannot stand to look at his blog. He has since deleted his blog but he did make a callout in an attempt to paint me as cruel and manipulative for my reactions to him. I posted a DNI about him in my rules, and when his friends continued to attempt to follow me, I made this post in which i continued to push that I wanted no crossover in our circles. Following that he made the callout in which I was told he edited our messages and only put parts he could use to paint his own narrative. After trying to hurt me further with this action, he deleted his blog. This is my response to him at the time. Mind you, I had him blocked but according to people who were still mutuals with him at the time, he was posting responses to my claims as if he could see my blogs. Which meant either he was block evading or having someone give him updates. Either way, the idea that he is still able to see my blogs made me incredibly uncomfortable. He hurt a lot of people. I am not his only victim. I DO NOT WANT ANYONE THAT INTERACTS WITH HIM NEAR ME. I do not care how minor the connection is. I cannot feel safe here so long as I feel he can see me. His blogs were ifri/tma/de (deleted), tales/wr/itt/en, baldu/rm/ad/e, and s/tori/esu/ng. Please be safe friends. I am not the type of person to do this type of thing, but sometimes people put you in situations. I will not discuss him further in public. I am happy for all of the supportive anons I got. They made me feel less crazy. If you do have any questions or concerns, you can speak with me privately. I do not want my blog to be all talking about him.

I won't push this relationship on anyone outside of Clive having very strong feelings for her. But yeah, I am not ship-exclusive. Especially not with canon ships. I WILL however be exclusive in terms of shipping with certain characters. I cannot really see myself shipping with any other Cids than my main one.

In terms of mains, they always get priority. These are typically people that I have ooc connections with or generally just really trust and have meshed with.

Aight, I'm pissed enough at Y*utube's aggressive ad bullshit (this reddit comment summarizes it pretty well) and it's one of the few G**gle services that we're stuck stuck with, that I'm gonna make my own post on current workarounds as of 10/12/2023, with info on methods that I know of for both desktop and mobile. They may not be the best workarounds, but they are what I'm currently using or trust from what I've heard (and I haven't had any other posts like this come across my dash, so maybe this is needed). We fight to the bitter end, comrades.

This post is specifically for if you must be logged in to use Youtube. Your greatest defense would be to use Youtube while logged out. From what I can tell, they basically can't do anything to you if you are.

Please note that I am absolutely no web or code expert, I don't understand the inner workings of the G**gle all seeing eye and how they catch you on this shit, I don't know if it's account based or IP based, I just barely figured out how to buy and use my own domain like three weeks ago, so there are likely things in this post I will suggest that people will correct me on. If for some reason this post gets big and starts circulating (unlikely), please check reblogs and replies for additional information (and make sure it's ACCURATE if you can). Knowledge is your friend.

With that plea to the void out of the way:

Desktop:

Some folks are using browsers with built in ad blockers such as Brave (with varying results; the comments are worth a read by everyone regardless if you use Brave) to circumvent the ad block policy, but that's Chromium shit! We don't do that in this house! I guess you can if you really want to (PrivacyGuides apparently gives it the seal of approval) but if you like your online privacy, I personally really do suggest sticking with Firefox.

"But Dyl, they're catching us on Firefox even with Ublock Origin."

Yes, but the Ublock team is working their asses off to keep up with every. single. ID. change. Y*utube makes to try to break their workarounds. If it's not currently working for you, click on that link right there and follow that guide. This war of the ads will probably continue for a while, so my advice for the foreseeable future is this:

Always perform the four steps listed in the above link any time you've been away from Y*utube for a while (even just a couple hours),

and double check the Y*utube ID VS Ublock's current ID as stated in the linked comment at the start of this post.

After verifying there's an ID update and Ublock is caught up, reset your filters every single time you get on after a several hour break (after backing up your personal filters and trusted sites, if you have any of those customized). Why so often? Because that's just about how often Y*utube's updating their popup ID to catch you with your ad blocker. The Ublock team is staying on top of it fairly well considering the insane frequency, but they may not always get to it for a few hours (hence checking the ID).

After rebooting your Ublock, check a few videos without being logged in first so as not to put your account at risk. Do so in incognito if it's easiest for you. EDIT: If you aren't logged in, YT won't give a shit if you have an ad blocker-- or so I've heard.

"That sounds like a hassle. Don't the filters in this post work?"

They may have at one point! But that post was made all the way back at the end of June 2023, and most recent replies in the post are stating it's not working for them anymore. Thus, I'd just constantly reset your Ublock for the time being until a better solution is implemented. Besides, once you know what you're doing, resetting Ublock takes a grand total of, oh I dunno, a minute? On that note, with YT's constant updates, I have no idea how Brave is faring/keeping up in comparison. And besides from using either Brave or Firefox+Ublock, I don't know of any other desktop solutions.

Furthermore-- and this applies to both desktop and mobile, but I'm bringing it up now-- if you really value your Y*utube channel and don't want it to lose access to watching videos-- or worse-- it may work to make a Y*utube account that's dispensable as your new default. I just used my spam email, honestly. It's literally no skin off my nose if that account suddenly can't watch Y*utube anymore. Then, save the browsing on your main account for when you can afford to have your adblock off (or just don't watch videos from that account anymore). It seems if you've already got the warning once, you're basically on G**gle's watchlist with that account now-- so if you've gotten it on your main, better safe than sorry.

Mobile:

There are a couple things I know of that you can do here. My first suggestion, and the one I just set up, is Revanced (aka the Revanced Manager, and it works in tangent with a MicroG fork (I absolutely do not have the vocabulary to explain what MicroG is/does, just know you can't log in to YT Revanced without it)). This Reddit post is the one I think will make the most sense to everyone for installation, but I would use it in conjunction with the official guide for dummies, not as a replacement for it.

TL;DR, Revanced is an open source APK patcher (or in gamer speak, a mod) that provides patches for numerous applications (T*mblr included, hint hint). Note the term "patches." Yes, you do need to download an APK of your app of choice (on non-rooted devices), but technically what Revanced does is create its own "build" of the app by combining the APK and the patches, and since they're not the ones distributing the APK, I believe that technically keeps them out of G**gle's death laser. PLEASE note that Revanced does NOT distribute its own APKs: if you're trying to save yourself hassle and find something claiming to be an already patched Revanced APK, be it for Y*utube, Reddit, etc, assume it's a virus even if it's not. Always get your APK from apkmirror with your own fingers and manually patch it in with Revanced.

I know the guide looks scary, but believe me: Revanced used to be WAY harder to install, as in, you had to go through a virtual machine on your phone harder. At the current moment, Revanced is Android only. Sorry Apple users :/

If logging in to an account is of no consequence to you and you could not care less, Newpipe is another good third party YT choice from what I've heard; I don't know if it has all of the same features as Revanced YT, but at the very least, yes, it should block ads. It seems to also be compatible with Soundcloud and Bandcamp of all things at a glance, so if those are common applications for you, Newpipe might even be a better option for you over Revanced. Alas, yet again, this app is not compatible with Apple-- and as this is the last third party YT app I have to offer, I don't know if there are any third party YT apps that are Apple compatible. However...

If installing a scary new non-playstore app isn't up your alley, Brave seems to have a mobile app as well; you'd be watching Y*utube in your browser instead of the Y*utube app, but hey, I was watching Y*utube in Firefox mobile with Ublock until I put on my big kid pants with Revanced, so it's absolutely doable. Again, I must reiterate, I don't know how Brave is faring with these changes.

That's all I've got, but just to reiterate: I'm not an expert. I only know bare bones web/code stuff, my understanding on some of these things may be slightly off or wrong, these are just the methods I know of that work to circumvent YT ads. Your mileage may vary on a number of factors, including but not limited to, your understanding of/ability to learn how to download and use non-playstore apps, any breaking updates YT makes to further enforce their tyranny, how G**gle keeps track of ad blockers in browsers, and how long ago this post was made vs when you're seeing it.

1. @allecsirp48 has been caught committing identity theft. They have been making racist comments against Chinese people , Islamophobic comments and mysogynistic comments using stolen pictures from another person. This is an ongoing issue with them.

2. @idcabuu account has now been deactivated most probably fearing the legal consequences. All their tweets have been deleted. They also spread a lot of fake allegations. So they will also most probably have a lawsuit now.

I just want to update this situation and determine the truth. We can all stand with whoever we like,but at the end I think we should present the truth.

Though Poi is the defendant now,she is still innocent until proven guilty.

edit: also I don't care about the case but I do work in public health so I care about medical misinformation and I want to correct that you said about increase risk of miscarriage with anti depressants. the results are mixed but here's some more recent research using the Danish registries and a more specific analytic plan to tease out the results.

Conclusions: Antidepressant use in the first trimester is associated with an increased risk of miscarriage when compared with either nondepressed or depressed unexposed women, even after accounting for induced abortions. The [increased] risk of miscarriage relative to unexposed, nondepressed women was 30% for antidepressant-exposed women and 10% for unexposed depressed women. a guide to Tumblr user interaction for newbies

Tumblr is the user interaction website. Not an advertisement website, not a popularity website. The goal here is not to become known to as many people as possible, but to be a little less lonely in this big wide world, and help other people be less lonely too.

Methods of user interaction, from most to least commitment:

Make a new original post.

Originally it will by default only be visible to your followers; if you want it to be visible to more people, use tags (five or so first tags count for the purpose of putting your post "into the tag" for other people to find outside of your blog). Beyond that you have no control: if it takes off, it takes off, if it doesn't, it doesn't. It's the highest commitment option because if it does take off it might be circulated for the rest of this website's lifespan, and you will continue to see people's reactions to it for as long as you stay here. Editing won't help, people will continue seeing the version that was originally reblogged (more on this later). Deleting will only help if you've put the post under readmore, in that people won't be able to access the original text anymore. Deleting your blog won't remove the post from circulation either. Beware.

It is very, very, very bad etiquette to make your own post with someone else's content without proper attribution. Tumblr is home to a lot of artists, writers and memers who take this shit personally. Reposting someone else's art (wide meaning of the word) as your own is just about the worst offense you can commit around here. If something you want to share was originally posted on another website, link back (unless it's a screenshot of a conversation, in which case just use your judgement for whether it's public and whether you have suficient permission to share it). If it was posted on Tumblr, for the love of god, REBLOG (see below). If you can't, that very likely means you shouldn't.

Good material for making your own original posts: Your art (and writing, and music, and so on). Your opinion on something (anything). A diary entry (though use your own judgement for whether you want to risk it being spread all over the website forever). A witty observation. A meme permutation of your own creation. A funny story you heard (with as much proper attribution as you can manage). Questions you want other people to answer. Excited recommendations of your favorite anything. Positive affirmations. Helpful information compilations. Wistful descriptions of extreme violence you wish you could inflict on politicians you don't like. Hornyposting. Etc.

Bad material for making your own original posts: Talking shit about other users in a non-vague way that allows others to easily identify them. Do not incite or spread harassment, even if they are really really annoying or really really wrong on the internet. Vagueblog if you have to, or take it to DMs (see below). Someone else's creations, as mentioned above. Unless it's formally published and the person has been paid for it, in which case, just don't take credit for stuff that's not yours, and attribute it so others can find the original source. Anxiety bait ("reblog this or have something bad happen to you") / screamers / jumpscares / common triggers (gore, flashing lights, etc) without proper tags. We used to have a lot of those, and nobody liked them, and we decided as a community to not do this anymore. Play ball or be prepared to get mass blocked and/or reported to the mod team for violating community standards. We don't mind hornyposting or threats of violence here, but don't be an ass to people who will see your posts, please.

Reblog someone else's post.

You can find other people's posts to reblog on their own individual blogs, in the tags (tumblr.com/tagged/your interest), on your dashboard once you've subscribed to any of the above.

The etiquette around reblogging is a weird and complex thing, but generally: reblogging without adding any text, with or without tags is considered a universal positive.

(Exception: when a person has explicitly asked people to not reblog the post in the text or tags of the post. The "forbid reblogging" function is new and might or might not work well, the point is don't be an asshole)

A reblogged post has its main body duplicated on your own blog, tagged with the tags you added yourself and no others, with your own additions (if any) appended to the end. People can remove additions after the OP (original post) when they reblog, but usually this isn't done. Beware of this also: if you add something stupid to a post and the version with your addition takes off, it also might well circulate forever with no option for control on your end. Deleting will only help if you post your addition under readmore, etc, etc.

The reason it's less commitment is that you will only get notifications from interaction with your post only from the people who will interact with specifically YOUR instance of it, on your blog or on their dashboard where they are following you. If person A reblogs your (reblogged) post, then person B reblogs it from person A, you will only be notified of person A's actions. Anything further down the line is between the OP (original poster) and whoever is further down the line.

Note that the OP gets all notifications for everything that happens with their post, no matter how far down the line. A reblogged post is not alienated from the original poster, it's not "stolen", the other way around, you're adding value and popularizing it (and/or adding harassment and making OP's life hell, depending on context). Most times someone makes a post, they WANT it to be popular and spread around, so unless specifically noted otherwise, reblog away!

As for adding your own commentary to the reblogs: reblogs are a very normal, traditional and classic way to have a CONVERSATION on this website. Don't be afraid to express your opinion, argue, disagree or agree with the OP / any previous opinions in the version of the post you're reblogging. It's even considered perfectly reasonable to copypaste the previous person's tags you are seeing into the main body of the post and express your opinion on THOSE - tags are personal, but not private. It's sort of like whispering to be polite and not interrupt the main conversation, but if someone thinks your tags add value to the discussion - if only entertainment value - into the pot they go.

Tumblr is a clown website for clowns, so making fun of any part of the post above is also valid. (Unless you're being an asshole about it. Don't be an asshole about it.) As is appending a joke or a pun. If people don't like it, they don't have to reblog it. OP will probably appreciate it. Note: "I hate you" or similar in an additional reblog is a common way of expressing appreciation. (If you genuinely don't like someone's joke, you won't parade it around on your own blog. "I hate this" is, sincerely and seriously, a joke love language on this website)

Giving compliments / expressing appreciation is also an always good option. "Holy shit I love this" is a great addition to any post at any time in any context (unless the op specifically asked not to reblog etc etc). The reverse is not true - unless your criticism/disagreement is actively adding value to the public discussion, keep it to yourself or to the less public ways of engagement (more on this later). Or vagueblog about it, always a good option.

A holdover from the horrible old days of notifications clogging up your dashboard is general disapproval of "derailing" a post. If someone made a long post about their favorite Pokemon mentioning the word "stove" and you reblog it with a long monologue on your favorite stoves and the origin of the word "stove" and your personal funny story about using a stove once, it's considered "derailing". We are however no longer in the horrible old days, so derail away if you want to. That said, you can always put any and all of those free association things in the tags - that's the good manners option. Tags are not infinite length, but if you have THAT MUCH to say on the unrelated topic, you can always just make your own post!

Tags are freeform - nothing reblogged can be found in the general tumblr tags, so they only serve for organization on your own personal blog and as storage for your rants. I've seen original posts that have one line of the actual body of the post and then several paragraphs' worth of additional text in the tags. This is quirky and makes other people's lives more dificult if they want to respond, but you don't owe it to them to make it easy to respond to you. Tag away. (Note that your tags are visible to (1) your followers, (2) the OP who will receive the reblog notification along with the tags you used, (3) anyone who looks in the post's notes. Tags are quiet and polite but still public. Use your judgement)

Note that reblogging a post makes the resulting version be part of your blog same as if it were your own post. There's nothing bad about that, but again - it's somewhat high commitment. If you don't want to reblog something, you are always free to. Demanding that other people reblog your post, expressing judgement of those who don't reblog, guilt tripping people over not reblogging, are all considered bad etiquette, and are likely to result in people who would have otherwise reblogged refusing to, just so their followers won't be subjected to that. This particularly goes for artists going on rants over how their like to reblog ratio is terrible (more on this later). You are not anyone's personal advertisement agency no matter how much they wish you were unless they are literally paying you for it. Reblog away, and also don't reblog away. It's your blog, your rules.

Note also that having a blog that consists entirely of other people's reblogged posts with zero commentary or tags is a perfectly normal way of existing on this website that won't raise any eyebrows from anyone. You can even make friends by doing that and nothing else, if people whose posts you reblog choose to talk to you about it. Your blog is as much or as little of a scrapbook of other people's stuff you like as you want it to be.

And finally, there's no such thing as necroposting. If you archive dove someone's blog until you found a post from 2011 you really want to reblog with commentary, go WAY ahead and do that. If they didn't want you to, they would have deleted it. (Barely anyone does that, which is because most people don't mind and perfectly welcome the interaction, however inane. We're a very social media)

Send an ask. (username.tumblr.com/ask, or tumblr.com/new/ask/username, unless they have it disabled)

Once upon a time, there were no replies and no private messages on tumblr. The only options for interaction were reblogs, asks, and fan mail - an utterly amazing feature I kind of wish they hadn't gotten rid of, even though literally no-one misses it for its functionality. The flavor though, the flavor!

Asks are the result of the assumption that the website will consist of creators and their fanbases, and the fans can send short questions to their favorite creators that they can then deign to answer publicly for everyone to see, or privately for just that person only. (Or delete the ask and forget it ever existed). This usage actually persists for the local celebrities and microcelebrities, and their inboxes are usually as swamped as you'd expect a celebrity's inbox to be, with as little guarantee they'll ever get around to your ask in particular as you'd imagine. In the meantime, everyone else has adapted asks for more mundane, everyday use.

There are "askblogs" - blogs where pretty much all of their content is answering asks sent in. Specifically advice blogs, where your typical post is a one or two sentence long question (ask) and an essay length answer, and roleplay blogs, where your typical post is an ask of variable length with a reply from the character(s) the blog is for in comic form. There are liveblogs (liveblog blogs?), where asks are usually sent to a separate blog where an "ask screener" reads through them to filter out spoilers before passing them on to the liveblogger to answer, usually in screenshot form - basically the microcelebrity situation but with a better chance of having your ask in specific answered. There are submission-based blogs, which use the submission feature instead of the ask feature and are pretty much the only use for the submission feature on this website ever.

When it comes to regular users, an ask is what you send when you want an up-to-essay-length answer posted on their blog. (Although they can always choose to answer your privately instead, unless your ask is anonymous. And either way they can choose to never answer you at all.) Like if someone is doing theorycrafting in your favorite fandom and you want to prompt them to write up their opinion on your pet question? Asks exist for precisely that. (IRL science, US politics and the bible count as fandoms in my personal opinion)

There are ask games being passed around in reblogs. One genre is along the lines of "send me an emoji to get an answer to this question" or "send me one of these emojis to give me your opinion on me". A post like that showing up on someone's blog means they are participating in the game and hoping someone (you) sends them an ask along those rules. Sending an anonymous ask for these is perfectly acceptable, assuming the feature is enabled - many people disable it, for reasons... good, valid reasons. Sending multiple game asks to the same person at once is an excellent thing to do too (assuming the game allows for it), whether you're anonymous or not. If you reblog one of these games with the hope your own followers / mutuals (people who you follow and who also follow you) engage in it with you, good etiquette is to also send an ask participating in this game to the person you're reblogging it from, because all too often everyone hopes someone will send an ask to them but nobody actually sends an ask to someone else.

The second genre of an "ask game" is the chainmail-like positivity messages. "Answer this ask with 10 things you like and send it to 10 latest people in your notifications" or something along those lines. You are never under obligation to answer these, just leave them hanging in your inbox or delete them if you don't want to. In that vein, passing them on to someone else is generally considered a nice thing to do, whether anonymous or not. Someone thought of you, and zero pressure to go with it.

I'm classfying asks as mid-commitment, as while they won't show up on your own blog (unless you choose to reblog the other person's answer, which a lot of people do, whether to continue the conversation from there or just to archive it for their own later perusal and enjoyment / to brag to their folowers), they WILL show up on the other person's blog. Probably. Unless they choose to answer it privately or not answer at all. You know what I mean.

(I'm classifying "answering asks sent to you" under the "make your own original post" option, as it has all the same caveats and conditions. You can of course always answer non-anonymous asks privately, which has the neat feature (?) that the interaction is subsequently deleted from your own inbox to never be reviewable by you ever, and the other person will get their ask with your answer back with no "reply" button and will have to send a separate additional ask if they want to continue the conversation. Basically answering an ask in private is the "and fuck off" of tumblr social interaction. Don't read it like that if other people do it to you though, lots of people, especially tumblr oldies, don't really think of it that way and just act as if it's private messaging. Because, you know, once upon a time it was the only option for that. Yeah.)

(Also, don't harass people. Don't send death threats / threats of violence / suicide bait. Don't dox. Even if someone told you something really bad about them. It's bad form, usually lies, and mass harassment is decidedly a disproportionate response for anything you can know for sure another tumblr user actually did. There's a reason we have 2.5 actually famous people on here under their own names and the reason is everyone else got harassed off the website. Along with a lot of local microcelebrities. Most of them for no good reason / over lies. People have actually died as a result of mass harassment campaigns, too, so, just... don't, okay?)

Replies

This feature is surprisingly new - for the longest time, the only way to engage with someone else's specific post was to reblog it. Then replies appeared for special "question" posts that you had to put a question mark at the end to make, then disappeared again for a while, until finally we got the actual functional feature as it is right now.

It's still not... perfectly integrated with the rest of the website. Replies to your post will show up in your notifications along the same rules as other post interaction notifications (on any level of nesting if you're the OP, just for the people replying to your instance of the post specifically if you just reblogged it), but if they are too long they will not show up in full and you'll need to dig through the notes of the post itself to find them. Which of course include all replies to the post, regardless of level of reblog they occured at, and are sorted by witchraft and wizardry. You can't reply to a specific reply to make a thread either, to adress someone in specific you need to tag them (@username) in the text of the reply. Replying to someone else's reply on a popular post is an exercise in frustration. The feature seems designed for everyone to reply to the OP specifically, so that the OP may peruse the mass of the replies as a whole at their leisure. This is not how the replies are actually used, and they are basically a free for all. Write whatever.

A normal way to interact with replies to your post, originating from back in the days of "question" posts, is to screenshot the reply and make a new post with the screenshot and your reaction / reply to it (assuming it's longer than the one sentence of your average reply), and tag the person you're replying to. (Unless you're dragging them / their opinion / their phrasing, in which case it would be polite to not tag them and also crop their username out of the screenshot or black it out. The same old don't be an asshole rule)

This feature is also, in my estimation, mid commitment. Your reply will be accessible on another person's post, but usually fairly buried, whether under an avalanche of other replies or due to the post's obscurity. Note though that unlike a post, you cannot delete a reply you've made (tumblr is a functional website :) ), meaning if you say something particularly stupid the only way to dissociate yourself from it is to delete your account. Which, to be clear, is normally a gross overreaction to leaving a stupid reply somewhere, because literally nobody cares. Stil, it's an Indelible Mark you're publicly leaving on the internet landscape. Can't leave anonymous replies either. Truly tragic.

Personal messages.

I believe there are multiple options people can set for privacy for who can send them these. For most people, if you follow them, you can message them. Just say hi! Compliment them! Share a fun fact! Start a conversation! Most people will appreciate it, even if they will first leave you on read for a couple of months because that's how often they check their inbox, oops.

Personal messages are decidedly NOT integrated with the rest of the website's functionality, which is really the main attraction. The only way to publicize a private messages conversation with someone is to take screenshots and post them, same as if you were using a different app entirely. (Incidentally, don't do that unless you have permission or a really, really good reason. Asshole rule etc)

You will sometimes get spambots in your personal messages. You can easily identify them by features such as: wanting you to go to another website, wanting you to buy something, offering you money for something, offering to have virtual sex with you. Don't act like that, and you won't get blocked and reported by other users!

Personal messages are... mid to low commitment. No-one but you and the person you're talking to will ever know (unless they choose to tell other people, but that's any interaction with another person ever), but you also can't delete personal messages, because tumblr is a functional website :) and personal messages are a relatively new feature. Seriously, we used to use FANMAIL to communicate. Fan fucking mail.

Likes.

Okay, real talk. You will see a lot of posts going around saying "likes don't do anything", "likes only upset people" and so on. Absolutely do not take those as a serious guide on whether to like other people's posts. (Well, maybe as a guide on whether to like THOSE SPECIFIC PEOPLE's posts. Not everyone else's.)

A "like" is a way to communicate to the poster (the OP and the person whose reblog of the post you're viewing, if the post is a reblog, which most posts on this website are) that you: (1) agree with them / the latest stated opinion in the reblog chain; (2) appreciate this post's presence on your dashboard / in the tag; (3) really like the thing they made; (4) are happy for them / sorry that happened and sending positive vibes their way. People whose reaction to being told this information is "if you like what I made you should advertise it on your own blog" or "this is clearly a passive aggressive message that my content is not good enough to share" need to log off tumblr and either go touch grass or start an instagram account or something. They are also a VERY SMALL minority. When seeing a stranger's post, the reasonable default assumption is that they will take a like as the positive message it is - someone took the time out of their day to put a little red heart on their post! - and be happy about it.

Likes are a very minimal commitment way to participate in the general tumblr discourse melting pot. You don't need to put anything on your blog, or say a single word to another person. Just decide what you like and what you don't, and send little positive affirmations to the former while ignoring the latter.

You can also access posts you liked later, meaning likes can also function as a personal archive of posts you want to be able to find later, if you don't want to use your blog for that.

And finally, an important function likes serve that cannot be overlooked is differentiating yourself from a spambot. Spambots are a constant cursed presence, and people generally snipe them on sight (block and report). And one easy way to tell a person from a spambot is that a spambot follows you out of nowhere and does not interact with your posts in any way (maybe reblogs something at some point to make their blog look like it's real). A person, on the other hand, generally follows you because they like some of your posts... which until the recent surge of stupidity, would generally be visible in your notifications via a string of liked posts before, around or after the follow notification. Distinguish yourself from a spambot by also doing that! In my observations, an average like:reblog ratio for posts and for individual followers is about 10:1. That's average, mind you, you have every right to reblog nothing or reblog everything.

(In my personal opinion, it's reblogs without a like that come across as somewhat hostile... but in the recent climate, one has to assume that people don't mean it like that are just took the 'how dare people interact with me without promoting me' moaning seriously)

Voting in polls.

The absolute newest thing to happen on this blue hellsite, and THE lowest commitment you can possibly have. It doesn't require you to write words AND is anonymous. No-one will ever know. But you DO need to make an account, so... still in some ways more commitment than sending an anonymous ask? Judge for yourself!

And please, for the love of god, like the posts you like.

Well, the answer is my today's "Navi Scratch-off" via the Wangan Navigator app! 🙂📱 And here are the items I've gotten before proceeding to the Wangan Terminal to claim. • Here's a little tutorial on, how to change your MAXI car name by using the "Name Change Ticket" via Wangan Navigator app? But first, Ri. Do you remember, when you decided to relinquish your GBR Impreza car to me because you want changed to the GDB-F Impreza car? → [CLICK ME!]

Me 🇵🇭: Correct! Because it's time to change the name of that GBR Impreza car, and I officially owned that cool hatchback blue car!

Riya 🐰🏎️: Aww sweet! But, how do you do that? 🤔

Me 🇵🇭: I'm glad you asked! Here's how you change your MAXI car name using the "Name Change Ticket" via Wangan Navigator app? 🙂📝🚘

• First, open the "Wangan Navigator" app & then tap on the "Ticket Box". Then tap the "use" button & select the car you want to rename it. (I know, what car am I gonna change the name! *look at the upper*)

SIDE NOTE #1: be sure that you've owned a "Name Change Ticket" after checking in your miles, daily.

• Once selected, you're now typing in the new name of your car, like mine. I decided to change the name "RIYA★" to "★ETE★". 📝🚘

SIDE NOTE #2: Only "5 letters" to type in. Six or more letters won't count. Special letters are acceptable albeit limited, like → ★ or ◇.

• Once it's done, you have to read the confirmation message before you decided to change the name of your car. Well for me, I tapped "OK" (twice) to proceed.

SIDE NOTE #3: As the message says, you can't changed the name again for 30 days.

• And once it's done, you noticed that my GBR Impreza car is barred with the red bar. Meaning, the name of that car has changed! And look at that, I've used one "Name Change Ticket" on my "Ticket Box"! And yeah, it's official! I've finally owned the GBR Impreza car! You get the notes, Ri? 🙂✍️🗒️

Riya 🐰🏎️: Yup! And man, that was easy! 😃 Plus, you don't need to send that ticket the Terminal for changing the name! But, will it effect after that? 🤔

• Here it is, let's go to the Wangan Terminal to set things up, and I started with my new car, the Toyota GR Supra in gray metallic. 🇯🇵🚘😃 Mmm... I was expecting to be "Dark Blue" (or any kind of blue body color) 🚘🔵, but that's alright. At least, I've got the modern Supra car from their recent campaign (from May 11th to Jun 11th, 2023). 😊

• Now onto items from the "Navi Scrach-off" (from the Wangan Navi app). I'm selecting two new stamps & two titles, which are "I'm not sick" & "Old tires are a resource". Mmm... Is this title ("I'm not sick") related to the COVID pandemic? 🤔😷 Nevertheless, the rest of the titles will be decided for the Speesdter Twins' on their Imprezas. So, here are ff. titles:

• Finally, let's check out the effects of changing the name & it is! The entire stats of my GRB Impreza remain intact. Also, I unlocked two WMMT OSTs: the Maxi Tune 1 & 2, and three WMMT3 installments (3, 3DX, and 3DX+). So, why not set the Maxi Tune 1 & 2 as my BGM race? Because they've got some of their great music if not many (in my opinion). And the rest, well, I decided to check my two cars, including the recent GR Supra.

Riya 🐰🏎️: Yeah, you're welcome for unlocking two OST installments! I enjoyed listening Wangan Maxi 1 & 2 soundtracks! 😉🎧🎶

• Overall, I'm having a blast with my recent update! Not only I've finished the fully tuned 350Z (a.k.a. Fairlady Z Ver. S), but also getting a new body color, which is my favorite color 🥰🔵🚘, and the GR Supra on my Wangan garage list 😁🆕🚘, as part of their current campaign. Which, by the way, it starts on May 11th & will end on Jun 11th, 2023. So, for Wangan Maxi players, here's your second chance to claim it by playing Maxi Tune 6RR arcade 20 times. I suggest that you should finish the "Story Mode" to obtain it 📖🚗, like me. Speaking of which, I only have 20 episodes left before I get the random WMMT OST background. Then another 100 episodes of "Story Mode" to get another random OST, so you get the idea. As for today's "Ghost Battle" nothing new on the table, but we appreciate 9 new items from the Wangan Navi app. Although, I've forgotten to equip my new stamps, but, that's gonna be another day. So, twins, anything else to say before I end this post?
