ALRIGHT BUT
I’ve been having flustered Steve thoughts.
The Party has NEVER seen Steve flustered. Steve’s always the one flirting and no one ever flirts back anymore so Steve’s never actually flustered.
But then Eddie Munson comes slithering along and he flirts with everyone just cause he can but nobody’s flustered by his attempts because he’s not trying to actually fluster them.
But for some reason he really flusters Steve.
Eddie uses this to his advantage and actually puts forth effort when he flirts with Steve.
Steve is flustered, bashful, embarrassed. He’s twirling his hair and giggling and he does this thing where he taps his fingernails on his front teeth when he gets distracted.
The Party was NEVER seen Steve like this.
Not even Nancy when they were dating.
Steve has described what he was like when he was flustered to them, calling himself stupid and saying he acted like an idiot to try and get them to just lay off.
All anyone sees is an absolute sweetheart.
Steve blushes really bright, starting with his ears and it just travels down from there. And also he’s really bad at hiding his smiles and he smiles so BIG when Eddie flirts with him. Like you can see every tooth and his eyes crinkle so much they basically close and his nose scrunches up.
And Eddie fucking THRIVES in it.
Because NO ONE else gets Steve like that.
Eddie’s witnessed Steve flirting with the girls of Hawkins. Has seen them all flirt back with varying degrees of bluntness.
None of them have gotten Steve nearly half as flustered as Eddie has.
UNTIL.
Eddie has Steve come over to the trailer to hang out. Steve by some turn of events ends up cooking and making grilled cheese and tomato soup.
Wayne comes home right as Steve is playing everything and Steve is DISTRAUGHT. Like “no Wayne it’s alright, really. I can make you some to it’s ok I like cooking you’re really doing me a favor.”
So Steve makes Wayne a grilled cheese to and refuses to let Eddie eat until they can eat together.
So they’re all sitting and then they start eating. And obviously it was a damn good grilled cheese— Eddie knew Steve could cook but good GOD.
And then Wayne puts his grilled cheese down, looks between Steve and Eddie, and tells Eddie “If you don’t marry ‘im I’m adoptin ‘im.”
And Steve BEAMS.
It’s that same smile he gets when Eddie flirts with him and Eddie is only somewhat livid.
Cause he totally gets the rush of having Wayne compliment you for the first time. He’s just such an honest man.
And it goes from there that the only people who can fluster Steve are Eddie and Wayne (Eddie romantically and Wayne platonic-fatherly).
They both go out of their way to compliment him constantly just to see him smile like that :)))
Aaahhhhh this makes me so happy!!!!

We're a Family Part 22 (Steddie X You)
A/N: Get ready to feel old <3. I wrote Good Neighbors a little over a year ago and I've loved how they've evolved. I'm not done with this little family yet. I still have one more chapter with Dylan and then some ideas with an older Ro but, ugh, lol I feel how the reader feels when it comes to her first born.
Warnings: Dads Steddie/ Mama Fem Reader, SMUT, edging (they are still trying new things), handcuffs, etc, FLUFF, they love each other <3 and their kiddos, ANGST, someone from the past comes back to talk to the adult Munson-Harringtons and Dylan, Steve and Eddie struggle being protective over their eldest (Eddie just hides it better), lots of talk about Dylan growing up and leaving the nest and how these three feel about it.
Word Count: 5256
An 18-year-old Dylan bounces anxiously on his toes as you sort through the mail too slow for his liking.
“MOM! Come on! Did anything come for me or not?”
Two years had passed since you reconnected with your mother and things had been going very well. She was always extremely busy with work but when she came over Aurora insisted on showing her all the movies she missed out on.
“Grandma! Watch how cool this is!”, the seven-year-old squeals with delight as they focus on the film in front of them. The light saber flies past Kylo-Ren into Rey’s hand and Ro breathes a sigh of excitement.
“Ok, now explain to me again how ‘the force’ works.”, yoru mom asks as she leans forward over her crossed legs on the couch.
You grin from your spot in the kitchen as you bump Eddie’s hip with yours.
“Definitely your daughter, nerd.”
“Takes one to know one, princess.”
James was now a toddler causing all kinds of chaos around the Munson-Harrington home. His sticky fingers got into everything even some of the cabinets that you had believed were too high for him to reach.
“James Wayne Munson Harrington.”, you scold with your hands on your hips as you watch him lean back and laugh with a wide smile that only rivaled that of his dad. “What do you think you’re doing?”
Plopping his butt down on the counter, he dangles his legs over the side as he reaches his tiny hand into the snack box and produces a chocolate chip cookie.
“Mama cookie…Yames.”, he coos as he points to himself while struggling to say his name correctly.
“Mhmm. Didn’t you just eat lunch?”
“For…for mama an Rara.”
“Don’t you bribe me and your sister with sweets, you little butthead.”
“Why are you being mean to our son?”, Steve asks as he rounds the corner into the kitchen.
“Because our son parkoured up the counter for a snack.”
The three-year-old giggles as he offers his dad a cookie that he accepts before lifting him into his arms and putting the box back in the cabinet.
“What did we say, bud?”
“Ask.”
“That’s right. You have to ask first. Now give mommy a kiss as an apology and get out of here, you butthead.”
Dylan was halfway through his senior year of high school and applied to a lot of colleges but was anxious to be accepted to a certain one because that’s where Daisy was going. The two of them had continued to date and see each other which you didn’t mind. What killed you however was that because of her family she was looking at a school that was a few states away. You had never been that far from your son and it scared you.
“I don’t know. I see bills and ads. Let me take my time to really read these though.” Dylan huffs making you smile as you give him a hug. He was so much taller than you now, your head resting against his chest as you wrapped your arms around him. “Everything’s going to be ok, weirdo. You’ll hear something soon. There’s still some time.”
***
Steve ran his hands over his eyes exhaustedly while grading papers during his lunch. With winter break coming up, he wanted to get everything out of the way so he could take these next couple of weeks to spend some time with the kids especially Dylan. When he had mentioned going to school out of state, of course, he was proud and encouraged him to apply but he’d be lying if he didn’t say the idea of his son being so far away broke his heart.
“Stevie?”
The sound of Eddie’s voice calmed him as he smiled towards the door his husband was leaning against.
“Hey you. What are you doing here?”
“You, uh, just started your lunch hour right?”
Steve knew that tone, something was going on that the metalhead was afraid would upset him.
“Yeah? Everything ok?” As he turned his head towards the hall, your ex-husband stepped into view. “No. Nope. Not happening.”
“Give us a second.”, Eddie gestured towards Charlie before entering the classroom and closing the door. “Steven, calm down.”
“Calm down? Why the fuck is he here?! Whatever he wants the answer is no.”
“Baby, sit. Please? At least hear me out first.” Steve huffed as he folded his arms and pouted while Eddie sat on his desk in front of him. “I get it. Trust me I do but I felt like…for what he’s asking we should talk about it at most. He wanted to speak to us both first out of respect because we are Dylan’s dads.”
“Damn right.”
“He’s not asking to spend time with him again or anything like that. Charlie doesn’t think Dylan would even want that but… he’s asking to see him graduate.”
“Are you fucking kidding me, Edward Munson?!”, Steve practically shouts as he rises to his feet.
“Shhhh.”, the metalhead tries to calm him doing the same.
“No! He hasn’t earned that fucking right. He hasn’t been here AT ALL in over 5 years. Why is that?! Oh, that’s right, he signed him over. Charlie had plenty of chances to be there for him and he failed! WE raised him and he thinks he can just waltz back in and be a part of something like that?!”
“Steve! Breathe.”, Eddie tries to sooth as he cups his face in his hands. “Breathe. I get where you are coming from. I said all of the same things to him when he came to the shop. But… I get it from Dylan’s side to. Remember when I finally graduated? I was so excited that Wayne was there but there was still a part of me… that wished my mom and dad could see me finally do it to. A lot of that was to spite them and show them I could do it.”, he chuckled making Steve smile. “But a lot of it was also the little kid in me wanting them there.”
The man in his arms heavily exhaled before tilting forward to kiss his lips and gesturing for Eddie to bring him in.
“I warned you before, Charlie, about hurting my son. If we talk to him and he wants you there and you don’t show up…I swear to God—”
“No, no. I understand. I’ll move heaven and earth to be there I swear.”
“Yeah to bad you couldn’t do that for him or Brody before.”
“Steve.”, Eddie warned.
“No, he’s right. I always said I’d never be like my stepdad yet… I’m, um, glad he’s had you two. I’m working with Vivian to be there for Brody. I’m trying…”
“You understand if he or Y/N says no, then the answer is no?”
“Yeah, I understand. Thank you for hearing me out though. I know I don’t deserve it.”
***
Your eyes constantly raked across them during dinner while they ate. Both men seemed completely distracted but especially Steve.
“I’m done. I’m going to go play games upstairs.”, Dylan announces as he stands from the table.
“Ah, kid, do you mind staying for a bit?”, Eddie asked throwing the two of you off guard. “Are you done to?”, he asks Ro as she beams up at him with her messy face.
“Yes, daddy.”
“Good. Can you take this troublemaker and go watch tv please?”, he laughs as Steve blind sides her with a napkin to wipe her mouth and the other boy pulls James out of his chair, placing him on the floor.
Aurora grabs her brother’s hand, giggling as they run to the tv in the living room. They wait until the sound of a show blares from that area before Eddie leans forward on his elbows and Steve leans back folding his arms.
“I don’t know how to ease into this so I’m just going to say it. Charlie came to visit me and Steve today.”
Your eyes widen as your head ticks to the side while Dylan sighs mirroring Steve’s posture.
“Whatever it is the answer is no.”
“Y/N…please. He said all he wanted was to see Dylan graduate from high school.”
“After everything he’s done?!”
“Yeah, I already went down that road, baby, but Eddie seems to think it’s worth the conversation.”, Steve exhaled heavily.
“Do you?”, his son asked. “What did you say when he asked?”
“I told him that it was up to you and Y/N. If you two said you were fine with it—”
“But you don’t want him there?”
Steve glances towards Eddie who gives him a look of subtle warning.
“No, I don’t.”, he answers honestly causing the metalhead to huff in frustration. “I don’t feel like he’s earned that luxury after everything he’s done and put you through. But…I also feel like it’s your choice. If you want him there then he should be there. You know no matter what, kid, you’re still my son. It won’t hurt my feelings if you want him there.”
“Our feelings.”, Eddie added. “I get what Steve is saying but I’ve been on the other side. My dad was in prison when I graduated. I was ecstatic Wayne was there but…”
Dylan’s soft eyes shift towards you as he reaches for your hand.
“Mom?”
“I just…I don’t want him to hurt you. I don’t you to get your hopes up and then he doesn’t show.”
“Oh, don’t worry. Stevie already threatened him if he didn’t show.”, Eddie grinned making your son laugh.
“I’d, um, I’d like to talk with him before I make a decision if that’s alright.”
***
“Baby?”, Eddie cooed as he came up behind you and wrapped his arms around your waist while you leaned in the doorway of James’s room. Steve had fallen asleep in the toddler’s little racecar bed, his frame much too big for the mattress underneath as his legs hung off the side. His arm was holding the small boy to his side as he rested his sleeping head on his father’s chest.
“Eddie, why do you think everything with Charlie affects him so much more?”
“Hm, sweetheart, it affects us both about the same but Steve here just sucks at hiding it. I love Dylan with my heart and would do anything for him. I’d be lying if I said the idea of him going to graduation doesn’t make me angry but if that’s what our son wants then I want him to be happy.” You nod at his statement, giving the man pause. “How does it make you feel? Be honest.”
“I don’t want him to go. I don’t…trust that he’ll actually show up. I feel like Steve right now where I just want to tell Dylan that we’re his parents and the answer is no so we can protect him.”
“The problem with that, my love, is you don’t know for 100% if that will be the outcome. I mean look at what happened with your mom.”
“Eddie, he’s my baby.”
“I know, babe. I know.”, he soothes as he turns you around and wraps you in his arms.
***
“When he gets here, do you want us to leave you two alone?”, the metalhead asked as the three of them waited at a table in the nearby Hawkins Diner.
“Not like alone, alone though. We’d be a couple of tables away.”, Steve assured confidently, trying to push down all of the emotions he was feeling.
“Can you stay, please? I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’m a little terrified.”
“Terrified how, bud? You don’t have to do this if you’re uncom—”
“Steve! Calm down, sweetheart.”, Eddie chuckles as he rubs his back comfortingly.
Dylan reached for his father’s hand and flashed him a big smile.
“Everything’s going to be ok, dad. No matter what you both are always going to be my real fathers.”
As they beamed over at him, a figure caught Eddie’s eye as it quickly turned to leave.
“Hey, I’m, uh, I’m going to go smoke before he gets here. I’ll be right back.”
Throwing on his jacket, the long-haired boy hastily power walked towards the front door, opening it just in time to see Charlie heading back to his truck.
“HEY! No. No, no, no, no.”, he shouted as he ran to block his path. “No. You are NOT doing this to him. You’re here now just get the fuck in there and talk to him.”
“I-I-I can’t. I saw him and… he looks so different now. That’s not my little boy anymore. I can’t do this. I can’t—”
Eddie abruptly shoved the man against his vehicle, cutting him off.
“You’re right. He’s not a little boy anymore. Unfortunately, you missed that because you were too fucking selfish. Now you have a chance to be a part of his adult life if that’s what he wants but, Charlie, if you walk away now that is never going to happen. Don’t be a fucking coward. He’s a good kid.”
“Because of you two. He fucking hates me.”
“Believe it or not, he doesn’t. Dylan thinks YOU hate HIM.”
“What? No. I love him and Brody so much.”
“Then where the fuck have you been?!”, he sighs releasing him from his hold. “He’s graduating with honors and a baseball scholarship to any school he chooses. He wants to go to a school up north with his girlfriend to major in music and education so he can become a music teacher. Dylan has worked so hard to get here. Don’t ruin it with your bullshit.”
Eddie shakes his head as he saunters back inside and plops down next to Steve.
“Are you alright?”
“Yeah, I’m fine.”, he grins but his husband can see right through it.
Placing his arm around the back of his chair, he leans close to his ear.
“You’ll tell me later?”
A throat clears startling everyone as they turn to see Charlie standing beside the table.
“Hi. Hey.”, his voice trembles as he shakes Eddie and Steve’s hands before turning to give Dylan his attention. “Hey, um, wow. Jesus. You look so much like your mom.”
“Oh. Uh, thank you. She thinks I look like you. To be fair she thinks none of her kids look like her.”
“Yeah? How many siblings do you have now?”
“Not including Brody, two. A sister and another brother.”
Your ex nods taking a seat as Dylan folds his arms over his chest. The guys were trying their best to stay as out of the way as they could while still being present for their son.
“So, uh--”
“Why do you want to come to my graduation?”, the boy asked bluntly. “My entire life you never went to anything that I was involved in and then signed me away. Why do you care?”
“I didn’t…sign you away… I just…I was never good at being a dad.”
“Why didn’t you try? Was it because of me?”
“No. God, no. Dylan, to me you were…are… absolutely perfect. I love you with all my heart. That’s why I signed those papers. After talking with your mom, I realized these two would be a better father for you than I ever could.”
Your son nods, sighing under his breath as he collects his thoughts.
“Mom will be there and Vivian to. Is that going to be a problem?”
“Oh, uh, no. I didn’t realize they were talking to each other.”
“They aren’t. Dylan wanted to get to know Brody and Vivian missed him so Y/N lets him go to her house on the weekends.”, Steve explained.
“Wow. It seems a lot has changed.”
“It’s been 5 years, Charlie. What did you expect?”
Your ex flinched at the sound of Dylan using his name but unlike the incident with Steve, it didn’t bother your son. He had long since moved past feeling like Charlie was his dad and could honestly never see himself calling him that again.
“I don’t want you to go to my graduation but, maybe, we could get together and get to know each other again. Work our way up to having a relationship… I mean if mom and my dads are okay with it.”
“Yeah, Dil. I’d like that.”
Hearing Charlie call him that again stuck a raw nerve he kept tucked away for the last five years causing him to abruptly rise from his seat.
“Ok, I’m ready to go now.”, he announces without waiting for an answer and flying out the front door.
“Thank you guys for this. Tell Y/N I said thank you to.”
“Oh, she didn’t approve of this either. I’m the only one that seems to be slightly on your side but that’s because I know what it’s like to have your father abandon you.”, Eddie exhales as he and Steve get up as well.
“I didn’t…I didn’t abandon him.”
“Yeah, sure. Neither did my dad. He just boosted cars and ended up in jail for the rest of his life. It’s not his fault.”, he responded sarcastically. “Step one on rebuilding your relationship with him Charlie… Own your mistakes.”
################
“No Grandpa! You have to wear the crown because you’re a princess.”, Aurora giggled as she places the colorfully crown she created out of paper onto Wayne’s head.
“I’m a princess? Not a King?”
“No.”, she laughs harder, cover her mouth with her little hand.
Beaming over at them from your place on the floor, you and James continue to color in his little coloring book Eddie’s uncle had brought over.
“Granpa, purty.”
“Thank you, James. I do feel beautiful.”
The alarm beeps as the front door opens and you do everything in your power not to get up to run to them anxiously.
“Oh wow, Wayne. I must say, you make a gorgeous queen.”, Eddie teases.
“For your information, son, I’m a princess.”
The metalhead chuckles as they come to sit by you in the living room and your son immediately crawls to Steve to show him his pictures.
“Dada, look.”
The sound of Dylan’s feet subtly bang up the stairs as he heads for his room and closes the door.
“He’s ok, baby. Just needs some time alone.”, your husband assures.
“What happened? Did he show up?” They gave you a recount of everything that happened including Eddie telling you both about him almost leaving. “I can’t say I’m not happy he won’t be going but who knows. Maybe in these six months Dylan may change his mind.”
The next couple of days went by with little to no fan fair as Christmas break finally came. That Friday after coming home from work, you checked the mail like you normally do except a college insignia catches your eye. Running full speed into the house, you drop everything as you scream your son’s name.
“Jesus Christ, woman. What is happening?!”, Eddie exclaims as he slides in from the kitchen.
As Dylan sprints down the stairs with Steve in tow, you present him with the envelope he had been waiting weeks for. Hastily, he yanks it from your grasp and tears it open as you dance on the balls of your feet.
“Oh my god.”
“What? Is it good news? Bad news?”
With wide tear-filled eyes, a small grin spreads along his face.
“I got in.”
All the adults in the room shout in excitement as you tackle hug your arms around him.
“Baby, oh my god. I’m so proud of you!”
“Good job, Dylan.”, Eddie beams. “You’ll be the first Munson to go to college.”
“I’m proud of you to, little man.”, Steve smiles softly as he gives the boy a hug.
“I’m going to go call Daisy. I love you guys!”, he declares as he speeds back up to his room.
The metalhead holds up his index finger in your direction as both men tilt their head and wait for his door to close before the other boy nods. As soon as you get the go ahead, you fall into their arms and begin to cry.
“I know, baby. He grew up too fast. We’re going to miss him to.”
***
“Ok, I finally got Aurora and James to sleep. Eddie is in the kitchen eating Santa’s cook—“, Steve froze when he finally entered the bedroom and noticed the image before him.
You were sitting on the edge of the bed in a velvet red lingerie dress that cut off just so on your thigh barely hiding your panty less crotch with the white fluff that wrapped around the bottom. Your hair was curled and flowed down your shoulders as the Santa hat you wore sat perfectly on your head.
“I thought you two could open this present early.”, you grin in a seductive voice as you cross your legs and lean back on your hands.
“Eddie…”, Steve tried to call with a needy crack in his tone. “E-Ed-Eddie… EDWARD!”
“What!?”, the metalhead whisper shouts making you giggle. “Dude, lower your voice. You’re gonna wake—” While he was talking, the man pulled his collar to hurry him up and your grin grew as the other boy’s mouth fell open as well.
“Get in here, you dorks.”, you tease as you get up, pull them both into the bedroom, and shut the door. “I was thinking we could try something Eddie has mentioned a few times.”
“Oh my god, I’m so in love with you.”, Steve sighs happily as he lifts you into his arms and spins you around before placing a kiss on your lips. “Do we get to handcuff him? Please tell me we do!”
“If you both want.”
Eddie giddily climbs into the bed, kissing your lips before a thought crosses his mind.
“Wait, we haven’t handcuffed Steve to the bed yet and I feel like this whole edging thing would be way more fun to do to him… Mr. I’m-the-big-protector-guy.”
The pretty boy rolls his eyes as he falls on to his back, lifting off his shirt, and throwing it in his husband’s face playfully.
Pushing some of your hair behind your ear, you restrain him to the headboard as the metalhead pulls off the boy’s sweats and boxers.
“Should we have like a safe word or something? You both get sensitive quickly and I don’t want you to be uncomfortable.”, you ask in a soft, loving voice that makes him smile.
“I’ve heard ‘Red’ is a good word.”, Eddie offers, grinning when you both nod in affirmation.
“Say ‘Red’ if I’m uncomfortable. Got it.”, Steve repeats, smirking when you put your Santa hat on his head. “You know, you’re pretty sensitive to, fyi.”
“I guess next time, we’ll have to test that theory.”, you tease as you run your palm through the hair on his chest and over to his side. “Ok, my love, do you want to start since you’re the sexual deviant that’s been looking up this stuff?”
The long-haired boy smiles mischievously as he leans over the other boy’s stomach to kiss your lips.
“You…like…it.”, Eddie coos between each peck.
As you continue to rub his chest, Steve’s breathing stutters as the man he loves take his cock in his warm hands and begins slowly stroking him.
“How does that feel, baby?”
“G-good. Really good. I like when y-you both touch me.”
Your palm slides up his neck to his cheek and he tenderly kisses your thumb as it grazes his lips. Shifting your body, you curl up on his side as you listen to the sound of Eddie spit over his tip and smear it along his length making Steve’s mouth open in a silent O.
“Fuck, Eddie, baby.”
Trailing kisses along his side, your hands and nails continue to roam his upper torso as his back arches at the sensations. As your husband’s ringed hand pumps him faster, Steve bites his bottom lip to suppress the loud moan that wants to escape.
“You look so handsome like this.”, you whisper as you tenderly move some of his hair away from his face. “Keep talking to us, Stevie. Please.”
“C-Can’t.”
“Why?”
“Too…too good.”
Beaming towards the other man, he winks at you as he drops another glob of spit over Steve’s tip as the boy ruts up into his hand. You both know his tells for when he’s about to let go; you’ve all studied each other very well over these past almost 12 years. Just as Steve was nearing his release…Eddie let him go and leaned back on his knees.
“N-No. No, no, no!”
“How are we feeling now, Harrington?”
The man huffed as he tugged on his restraints before groaning with need as Eddie wrapped his lips around his cock taking him all the way down to the back of his throat. After kissing his lips, you trailed your own down his chest to his stomach and stopping just above the base of shaft.
The metalhead came off him with a syrupy smack, stroking the man with his hand as he leaned towards you to passionately kiss your lips. The two of you played with Steve for a good long while, taking turns bringing him to the edge just before pulling back. His cock was dripping with both your saliva, angry and red from all the teasing.
As you glanced his way, his eyes were squeezed shut as he muttered things under his breath.
“Steve, honey? Are you ok?”
His eyes opened abruptly, meeting yours with a fire you hadn’t seen from him in a very long time.
“Eddie, let him go.”, you breathily moaned as his intense gaze never left yours.
The moment the cuffs came off, Steve’s sweaty frame practically tackled your own as he lifted you into his arms and spun you around making you giggle at his earnestness as your head hit the pillows. His lips devoured yours as if it had been ages since he tasted your kisses. Hissing at your touch, you reached between you both and guided him into your entrance. Before he could make any kind of movement, Eddie took hold of his hips and slide into the man above you.
Steve was anything but gentle as he slammed his lower half into you both desperately chasing his release.
“Oh…oh my God, baby. Just like that.”, you whimpered as his head feel beside you, latching his lips to your neck.
Glancing up to your other husband, his hair blocked his face as he grunted and clung to Steve’s waist as he met each thrust with a hard, rough one of his own.
The bed underneath you began to shake and the metalhead quickly reached up to hold it still with his palm.
“Fuck, Steve. You feel so fucking good. I love you, baby. M-Make me cum.”
Clinging to his hair and back, he pounded into you till the coil snapped and your pussy clenched tightly around him. The sound he made in your ear drove you crazy as his body trembled on top of yours and you felt his seed release inside of you. As he aggressively thrust it deep into your cunt, Eddie fell against his back, and held his chest as he came inside of the man below him.
“Jesus fucking Christ, that was amazing.”, the metalhead panted. “Steve, sweetheart, are you ok?”
“I think he fell asleep.”, you giggled as you petted the boy’s head. “Stevie, baby?”
“Hm?”, he grumbled as he snuggled closer to you.
“Are you alright?”
“Hmm…mmhmm…”, he nodded.
“As much as I would love for you to fall asleep inside of me, it’s Christmas eve. You know at 7am those kids are going to burst through our door.”
Groaning, he nods as he rolls off you with Eddie immediately ready with a pair of boxers and rag to wipe him off. After making sure Steve was set, your husband grinned as he lifted you into his arms, disrobed you, and placed you in the shower as he delicately cleaned you.
“I love you to, baby.”, you smile up at him as he kisses your forehead.
“I love you even more. You looked really gorgeous in that outfit and I’m sure Steven will agree when he’s more coherent.”, he chuckles.
Wrapping your arms tightly around his waist, he does the same as he rests his chin on your head.
“You know these next few months I’m going to need you two to help me hold it together.”
“I know, sweetheart. I can’t even picture Dylan not being in this house anymore. God, and we’re both going to have to be on Steve duty because you know he’s going to be a mess to.”
################
While Eddie and Steve sip their coffee, you pat James’s back as he curled up around you after opening all his presents and went back to sleep.
While Aurora was distracted with her morning cartoons, Dylan had gone upstairs to change and came back down just as your doorbell rang. Passing the baby to one of his fathers, you threw on your jacket and opened the front door to a fiddling Charlie.
“Oh, um, hey Y/N. Merry…Merry Christmas.”
“Yeah, so you’re taking him to Vivian’s?”
“Um, yes, ma’am. She’s letting me spend the day with Brody so I asked Dylan if he wanted to join and he said yes.”
Turning to your son, you fixed his ski cap before kissing his cheek.
“No detours to Daisy’s ok? I want you home straight after for dinner.”
Smiling at you, he jogs towards your ex’s truck and quickly climbs into the heat.
“Thank you for this. I really appreciate it…after everything.”
“Don’t thank me, Charles. Thank those men in there. I still think this is a bad idea because of everything but we all just want our son to be happy. But I swear to God…I’m not the same woman I was 18 years ago. If you hurt him—”
“I know…your, uh, boyfriends threatened me already.”
“Husbands. Oh, they’ll be the first wave but I’ll be the finishing move. I’m not weak anymore.”
“You never were.” His response startles you as you hug your arms tighter around your body and he softly smiles. “I’ll have him back in a few hours.”
As you reentered the house, their eyes watched you as you sit beside them on the couch still hugging yourself. Ringed fingers threaded through your hair before turning you to face them.
“Everything ok?”
“Yeah. It’s just weird seeing Charlie be this way.”
“I can understand that. It’s like if my dad came through that door with a smile and a Santa level of presents.”, Steve sighed.
“Are you both ok? I told him to be home for dinner that way after we eat maybe you three can play that new game we got him.”
“It’s whatever he wants, baby. I try to remember what it was like when I was his age and I never wanted to be home.”, the pretty boy laughs. “So, the fact that he likes hanging out with us at all makes me happy.”
Eddie nods in agreement as James wiggles in his embrace.
“Daddy. Yames…hungee…”, the boy babbles as he taps his mouth with his palm.
“I guess it is that time to start fattening him up so we can have him plump enough to eat for dinner later.”
“No, daddy! Don’t be mean to James.”, Aurora scolds as her brother giggles.
“Come on, you. Let’s see if Santa left us anymore cookies in our pantry.”

Chapter 33. Resting
Steve’s nose twitched, which in turn sent a message to his stomach, which poked his sleepy brain into floating from the dark depth of restful sleep, back to the waking world. There was still a hand in his hair, only it was a different hand and was scratching at his scalp with blunt fingernails in a way that made him want to purr. Luckily for his dignity, his higher brain began to cooperate before he did.
There was no doubting that his thoughts were still a bit on the slow and muddled side, but he was perfectly used to that after an Upside Down related incident. This one might have been government sponsored, but it had been about powers and stuff, so in his head it still counted. There was a bowl of something on the coffee table in front of him, which was where the nice smell was coming from. It took him a second to realise the table was the one from the pool room, because he definitely remembered seeing the main one in several pieces.
Blinking, he looked around a little without trying to move. He was kind of surprised to find Argyle sitting on the couch opposite the one he was lying on. Things had definitely moved on while he was asleep.
“Hey, my dude, Argyle said with a big smile, “welcome back from dreamland. I hear it has been quite a day.”
He hummed a reply.
“How’re you feeling, Stevie?” Eddie’s familiar voice asked, even as the fingers massaging his scalp stopped moving.
“Hungry,” he admitted as he valiantly fought from making a pathetic noise of complaint at the loss of Eddie’s touch.
He felt much more rested and with it this time around and decided to chance sitting up. Eddie gave him a small boost as he carefully swung his legs down and tried pushing himself into a sitting position. Somewhere along the way he noticed that the iv was gone from the back of his hand. Clearly, he had been asleep a while.
The living room had also been tidied. It was not up to its usual standards, but, apart from the bullet holes in the wall, it looked pretty normal. The front door had been patched so it was no longer hanging open. It was also dark.
“Here,” Eddie said, leaning forward and picking up the bowl from the table, “you have this one. Joyce has been producing some of her wonders.”
“It’s yours,” Steve said, rubbing his eyes as he came to the obvious conclusion.
“And there is plenty more in the kitchen,” Eddie said. “I promise I did not get my cooties all over it yet, so eat up.”
That made him smile. It also made him want to lean over and give Eddie a kiss, but not being alone made that a problem.
“What did I miss?” Steve asked, accepting the bowl despite his reservations.
“Well, to start with everyone over twenty is conspiring in your kitchen,” Eddie told him, looking much happier as soon as Steve began to eat. “We have no idea what they came up with, because they wouldn’t let us in on it, but your mom looked very pleased with herself by the time Owens left, and Owens didn’t look defeated, so I think they were conspiring together.”
“Mom was an attorney before she had me,” Steve said, more than a little proud of how his mom was dealing with the whole Upside Down situation. “She went back to it once I was old enough. She heads the legal department in the firm, doesn’t trust anyone else to do it properly.”
“Your mom is one stand up lady,” Argyle agreed from the other couch.
“The only thing I heard was Hopper mutter something about no one being able to touch this town with a fifty-foot pole.” Eddie added, “so whatever they’ve come up with it’s probably good.”
“It is.”
Steve turned to find his mom coming from the direction of the kitchen.
“Hi, Mom,” he said, giving her a small smile. “Are you saying jump and making government people ask how high?”
“Sort of,” his mom replied, coming over and perching on the edge of the couch, “but I have to admit, Sam seems to be a surprising ally.”
He blinked at the way his mom casually called Dr Owens, Sam. That went a long way to settling his immediate doubts. Not all of them, but given that him mom had been known to eviscerate people by using their titles as a weapon, the way she was referring to Owens spoke volumes.
“Unfortunately,” his mom went on, “Will has become part of the official record thanks to Sullivan’s men and their radio chatter, however, we have agreed that you and Eddie will be kept out of the official report. He assures me his people can be trusted.”
“How did you get them to agree to that?” Steve asked, so shocked he completely forgot about the fork halfway to his mouth.
“Sam is a surprisingly forward-thinking person,” his mom told him. “He is more than aware there are other factions within the government that would like nothing more than to use El and any like her as weapons. While he is sure he can downplay Will’s abilities as an echo of El’s brought on by contact with the Upside Down, he agreed with me that if yours became widely known it would bring too many eyes onto the project once again. And likewise with Eddie. Sam has, however, offered the facilities at the lab, should either of you wish to investigate what you are capable of further.”
“Wouldn’t that be dangerous?” Eddie asked.
“I wouldn’t recommend it unless either of you start having problems,” his mom said, “but I promised I would pass on the offer, so I have. And don’t worry, we have certain things in the works that should make touching El or any of the rest of you far riskier than any covert government organisation would like.”
“Do I want to ask?” Steve said.
“No, Darling,” his mom told him with a smile, “but I didn’t want you to worry. You and the other kids just need to focus on yourselves for a while, you’ve all done more than enough.”
There were many ways Steve could react to that, from rejecting the idea outright, through being put out by being kept out of the loop, but he settled on acceptance in the end. He was tired, he was starving, and really all he wanted to do was eat and curl up. It was nice to be able to let go of the reins for once.
“Okay,” he said and put the meatball on his fork in his mouth.
“Oh my god, where are they, they must be riding over the hill any minute. The four horsemen have got to be knocking on the door,” Eddie said in his usual dramatic fashion.
Steve gave his boyfriend his best bitchy look, which made Argyle laugh out loud. His mom for her part smiled widely.
“That smells so good,” Eddie said, pushing himself away from the couch. “I shall return once I have quested for such bounty. Anyone want anything from the kitchen?”
“A glass of milk would be great, thanks,” Steve said round his bite. “If there’s any left.”
“I’m good, thanks brochacho,” Argyle said.
“Thank you, but no,” his mom replied.
“Milk coming right up,” Eddie said and disappeared.
It was only when it was just him, Argyle, and his mom in the living room it occurred to him the house seemed very empty.
“Where is everyone?” he asked.
“Hopper has taken Dustin, Nancy, Mike, Lucas and Erica home,” his mom explained, “while Eddie’s friends have made their own way. The incident today has made the news, so everyone wanted to reassure their parents they are alive and well, and they’ve been given a vague cover story for now.”
“The news?” he asked.
“Not many of our neighbours have returned yet, but the explosion on the drive was enough to garner the attention of those who have,” his mom said. “The press has been told it was a paramilitary organisation masquerading as US government troops. Sam is working it into the cover story he was already arranging and is handling the news people.”
“Okay,” he said, trying to sound confident, even as he vaguely panicked about reporters lurking in the bushes. “Is everyone else staying?” he decided to change the subject, his sleepy brain couldn’t cope with everything at the same time.
“That is the plan,” his mom told him. “Will and El woke up a little while ago, long enough to have something to eat, but are sleeping again. Sam sent a clean-up crew to Joyce and Hopper’s house to make sure no one can break-in, and everyone will be staying here tonight, so as not to disturb the kids.”
“Jon is helping his mom in the kitchen,” Argyle provided cheerfully. “Broke all the speed laws to get back here when he heard the news. Dude could really have done with the healing powers of Purple Palm Tree Delight.”
Steve glanced at his mom, but she seemed to find Argyle amusing rather than anything else. He had no idea if she knew what Purple Palm Tree Delight was, but given that Argyle carried the scent of weed with him almost all the time, Steve suspected his mom could guess.
“And Robin and Wayne?” he asked, deciding he didn’t want to touch on that particular subject.
“I have just had a fantastic shower,” Robin’s voice carried from the stairs, and she appeared wearing a selection of Steve’s clothes. “I hate how hard it is to get blood out from under your fingernails.”
Steve could very much relate to that these days.
“Tell me about it,” he agreed, ignoring his own rather grubby nails for the time being.
A long hot shower sounded really good, but his first priority was his stomach. That he had almost finished his bowl of carb rich pasta and meatballs already should maybe have been a little embarrassing, but he really was starving.
“I believe Wayne is in the backyard getting some air,” his mom provided the answer to the other part of his question. “Given today’s excitement he has called in sick to the plant.”
“It took Eddie using his big ole brown eyes,” Robin revealed as she threw herself onto the couch beside him, “but it worked. Also, I think Eddie’s eyes should be listed as a lethal weapon. Devastating!”
Steve ate the last of his pasta, so he didn’t say something stupid to that. He was well aware of the effect of Eddie’s eyes, although he suspected they affected him a little differently to other people.
“They only work on Wayne when he wants them to,” Eddie said, appearing once more from the kitchen. “He’s been immune to them since I was nine.”
Steve accepted the glass Eddie handed him with a quiet thank you.
“That smells really good,” Robin said, peering at Eddie’s new bowl.
“Oh, good lord,” Eddie said, rolling his eyes and just handing it to her. “I’ll get another one.”
Robin grinned at him.
“You are an angel,” she said, which made Steve’s chest flush with fondness for both of his favourite people.
“And looks like you could do with a refill,” Eddie said, waving his hand in Steve’s general direction.
He knew when not to argue and just handed over his bowl.
“I’m not going back a third time,” Eddie said as he walked off, “so speak now or forever, etc, etc.”
Joyce and Jonathan appeared shortly after Eddie came back the second time, taking seats next to Argyle on the other couch.
“This is delicious, thank you, Joyce,” Steve remembered his manners as he tucked into his second bowl.
“Just one of my staple recipes to feed growing kids,” Joyce replied with a smile. “Also easy to keep warm.”
“If Steve leaves any,” Robin joked.
“The betrayal,” Steve said, because he could be dramatic too, when he wanted to be.
“You still love me,” Robin shot back.
“I do, remind me why again,” he replied, so she elbowed him in the side.
“I am practically perfect in every way,” Robin said primly.
“Did you just quote Mary Poppins?” Eddie said with his fork hovering in front of his mouth.
“Did the scary metal-head Dungeon Master recognise that I quoted Mary Poppins?” Robin countered, batting her eyelashes in a way that Steve was pretty sure was supposed to look innocent, not demonic.
“It’s a classic,” Eddie replied, “but it’s not like I go around dropping lines from it. And I think my reputation is less likely to take a hit from a fantasy musical than yours, it doesn’t come as a two VHS set and I don’t think Cockney counts as another language.”
Of course, that launched the pair into bickering about films, which Jonathan and Argyle chose to join in. Steve sat back, finishing his meal and enjoying the whole thing. It was kind of hilarious how Eddie, and surprisingly Jonathan, ended up teamed up against Robin and Argyle.
Food eaten, milk drunk, he put his bowl and glass on the table and sat back into the couch. His mom was still perched on the arm, and he leaned in without really thinking about it. The way she stiffened at his touch sent his thoughts reeling before he remembered why. For a second, he held his breath as well, wondering if there would be any repercussions.
“All good,” he said quietly after a moment, looking up, “sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry, Darling,” his mom replied, draping her arm over his shoulder and giving it a squeeze. “Glad you’re feeling better.”
He gave her a smile and tried to enjoy the comfort of his parent’s touch while listening to his friends playfully bicker, but his mind was distracted now. His thoughts skipped back over the events of the afternoon. It almost felt like a dream. An army colonel had tried to kill his friends and invaded his home. That it had been purely human driven made it worse in a way. There were no creatures, no mad superman to blame everything on this time. It set him on edge.
When the front door opened, his almost jumped in surprise.
“Just me,” Hopper announced as everyone looked over, “but Joyce, look who I ran into.”
“Dimitri,” Joyce said, standing up from the other couch.
A hard-faced man with a moustache stood in the doorway. Steve had never seen him before and he had had never heard of anyone called Dimitri. That it was a Russian name was not settling.

'86 baby!
summary: what's vol 2? never heard of it in my life. anyway this is my take on eddie finally graduating hawkins high.
word count: 421
a/n: very badly written i was tired and had a headache from crying ygm, i needed to write this for my own sanity
no warnings, no ocs, just eddie and a mention of others
“Edward Munson.”
Eddie could hear his friends screaming and whooping as he climbed the stairs to the stage. Hellfire were there, of course they were, and so were Steve, Nancy, and Robin. His uncle was among the cheers too, holding a firm and proud smile as he reached the final step. Eddie had in fact not totally bombed Ms. O’Donnell’s final to the surprise of most of the Hellfire Club, which finally meant he was eligible for graduation. He’d told everyone that it was his year.
Eddie strutted along the stage with a smirk on his face while he remembered what he had said to his friends just a few weeks ago.
“I’m gonna walk that stage next month, I’m gonna look Principal Higgins dead in the eye, I’m gonna flip him the bird, I’m gonna snatch that diploma and I’m gonna run like hell outta here!”
So that’s exactly what he did.
As Principal Higgins started to hand Eddie his diploma and reached out to shake his hand, Eddie did one of two things. First he grinned down at the shorter man, before taking one of his hands and flipping him off. That made some of the people in the first few rows of the crowd produce an echoing laugh that tittered through the auditorium for a few seconds. Eddie then snatched the diploma and ran off stage laughing as he jumped down the last few steps.
It’s not like they could take the diploma off him now anyhow.
Eddie was tempted to not go back to his seat and actually run like hell out of there, but a few Hellfire friends were graduating too and damn him if he didn’t support his friends. The rest of the ceremony was tedious, Eddie was near the middle of the graduating class so he fiddled with his rings while people walked the stage and only looking up while it was his friends being handed their diplomas.
When the final person had walked the stage, Principal Higgins asked the graduating class to stand up.
“You may now move your tassels from the right to the left, as you are now graduates of Hawkins Highschool.”
The cheers and arounds that erupted in the auditorium were cacophonous. Friends grabbed friends and hugged, some shouted "we did it", and Eddie? He took this opportunity to actually run. He ran to his uncle, seated with all of his non-graduating friends, and laughed as they all hugged and congratulated him.
“I told you guys, ‘86 is my year.”

Chapter 31: The Whole Family
I was in full active labor seven hours after I lay down to nap with Steve. My water broke at around nine that night, but it was just a small trickle and it took a little while for me to realize it had happened.
It was quite a strange feeling to be in labor while everything was just going on as normal around you. We were experts at it this time, so babies were being breastfed and given tummy time. Dinner was served and eaten together. Riley and Pietro were given their stories and a bath before being put into bed and all the while I was getting these strong, debilitating pains that lasted barely anytime every 20 minutes or so. There was a rotating roster of people who stuck by my side depending on what needed to be done in the house and when all the kids were down for the night Tony suggested that maybe we should just go down to the Medbay and see how things were going. Turns out the answer to that question was; ‘not well’.
“Elise, honey,” Doctor Schroeder said, as I lay back on the bed with a bunch of probes attached to me, and one inserted inside me and attached to the crown of the baby’s head. “The baby is in distress, we really need to do the c-section.”
“What?” I said, the alarms beeping around me as my blood pressure shot up. “No, no, no, no, no.” Beside me, all the color had drained from Tony’s face and he started fidgeting where he stood.
“It’s going to be fine,” the doctor said. “But he needs to come out. We need to put you under as soon as possible.”
“But… I…” I couldn’t think straight. I didn’t know why he would be in distress now. I had made plans. I’d gone into labor, I was supposed to deliver like Wanda and Natasha had.
“El, princess,” Sam said, stepping close to me and crouching down by the bed. I looked at him, still panicking. “Honey, I’ll stay with you the whole time. Okay? I won’t leave your side for one second. We’ll get Edwin out and when you wake up, we’ll all have a happy and healthy baby boy.”
I felt tears prick my eyes but I nodded, feeling a little bit more sure about things. Everyone backed off a little and I was moved onto a surgical bed and set up with an IV and wheeled into surgery. Everything felt like a blur as I was given an anesthetic and oxygen and talked off to sleep. I remember the last thing I could focus on was the light above me and Sam’s voice telling me he was right here with me and everything would be okay.
The next thing I was really aware of was my throat hurting and how cold I felt. “Hey, El,” Sam said, gently. “You waking up?”
I managed to force my eyes open but they fell closed again right away, I shook my head slowly.
“It’s okay, princess,” Sam said, running his thumb over the back of my hand. “You can keep sleeping if you want to. Everyone is fine. Edwin was crying up a storm as soon as he took a breath. He’s with the others now. His feet and hands were a little blue and his pulse was a little high, but everything settled once he got used to being out in the big bad world. They don’t think he’s going to need to be in intensive care or anything. Just your blood pressure stressing him out.”
I relaxed as Sam spoke and seemed to doze off for five minutes or so before waking again. A nurse came over to check me over. “Do you have any pain, Doctor Cooper?”
I nodded and pointed to my stomach where they had cut.
“Do you want some pain medication?” She asked.
I nodded again and started crying - though I wasn’t actually sure what was setting it off.
“Hey, El,” Sam soothed. “It’s okay, honey. I’m still here.”
“And you’re going to see your baby very soon,” the nurse added as she adjusted something on my IV. The pain started to back off again, but I couldn’t seem to stop crying.
“What’s upsetting you, princess?” Sam asked.
“I don’t know,” I cried, my voice raspy.
“Aww, honey,” Sam soothed. “Having a bad reaction to the GA leaving your system. It’s alright. It’ll back off soon.”
I’m not sure how long it took to start feeling more awake but they brought me juice and crackers and checked me over before letting me go to my room where the others were waiting with Baby Edwin. Sam stayed by my side the whole time, talking me through every little medical thing that they did so I wouldn’t worry.
I was wheeled into the room and was greeted by all the others who were seated around on the various couches and sofa chairs set up. They all stood at once except for Tony who was holding the little bundle in his arms.
“Hey, sweetheart. They said it all went fine. How are you feeling?” Steve asked.
“I'm okay. Feel weird. I was pregnant and now I'm not anymore,” I said. “Usually a thing that happens between those points.”
“You had a baby,” Steve assured me. “He's right there. Tony’s won’t let anyone else hold him.”
“Hey! You all got a turn,” Tony argued. “But I helped make him, I’m proud of my good work.”
“Puh-lease, Tones,” Clint snarled. “You jizzed inside her. Who hasn't done that?”
“Hey, not in front of the baby!” Tony said, covering Edwin’s ears and looking at Clint with a scandalized expression on his face.
“Alright, alright,” Natasha said. “I think it’s time for Elise and Sam to get their chance holding him.”
Tony got up and carried the little bundle over. He was wrapped in a blue blanket with just his face showing and he was sleeping peacefully. He had a fine head of brown hair and a little button nose. “Look at what we made, El,” he said as he put him in my arms.
“I can’t tell who he looks like more,” I said, looking down at him.
“Well he has blue eyes,” Tony said. “But that could just be because they haven’t settled.”
“He’s perfect either way,” Wanda said.
I smiled down at him and ran my finger over his cheek. “Hey, Eddie,” I said softly. “Sorry I missed you being born and stressed you out so much.”
“He’s fine,” Wanda said. “I promise.”
“A hearty lad,” Thor added. “You have nothing to fear, my life.”
I smiled and kissed Edwin’s forehead. “Good,” I said. “That’s the main thing.”
“Not to hurry you along, El,” Sam said. “But I want a turn too.”
I giggled. “Okay, but only because you stayed with me the whole time.”
Sam grinned and took him from me, and I lay down, closing my eyes. “Maybe we should leave you to sleep, honey.”
I mumbled something, trying to ignore the pull of sleep, but finding it hard to resist. “Mishka,” Natasha scolded. “It’s the middle of the night and you just had major surgery.”
“We’ll be here when you get up, and so will Edwin,” Bruce said. “You should sleep while you can and heal so you can come back home as soon as possible.”
I nodded slowly. “I’ll stay with her,” Tony said.
“What a shocker,” Clint teased and came over and pressed a kiss to my forehead. “You did good, El.”
“Thanks, Clint,” I murmured.
The others all came over and kissed me goodnight before leaving. I dozed a little while Tony fussed around and eventually set himself up to sleep on the foldout next to me.
The following day I woke up to the sound of Edwin crying. Tony had him cradled in his arms, trying to soothe him as the nurses came and propped my bed up. I have no idea how long I’d slept for, but the sun was up and the room was filled with flowers and balloons.
“There’s your mama,” Tony said. “We were starting to think you were going to sleep all day long.”
“Sorry, Tony,” I said.
He shook his head. “You’re healing. It’s fine.”
“How’s your pain?” One of the nurses asked as she fussed around me.
“About a seven,” I said. “Maybe seven and a half.”
“We’ll get you something. Are you hungry?” The nurse asked.
I nodded. “Very.”
“Okay,” she said. “I’ll organize that too. And are you going to breastfeed?”
“I’m going to try,” I said.
“Okay, let’s see if we can do that first,” she said, gesturing Tony over with Edwin.
It took a little bit of doing but we eventually had him latched and suckling. I knew I wasn’t really producing anything much yet, the surgery would delay my milk production, but it was important to get him to suckle to bring it on. He suckled with a scowl on his face, staring up at me with his dark blue eyes as he gripped at my breast with one little hand.
The nurse left to go order my breakfast and my pain medication and Tony sat on the side of my bed and started playing with Edwin’s hand. “You ready to see the others?” He asked.
“Yeah. That’ll be good,” I agreed.
“Your mom is here. Those are from her,” he said, pointing to a large bunch of white roses and blue irises set in a blue box with foil balloons attached that read ‘It’s a boy’. “You okay seeing her too?”
I nodded. “Yeah, that’s fine too.”
“FRIDAY, let them know,” Tony said.
By the time the very large group that consisted of my husbands, wives, children and mother came through the door, Edwin had stopped feeding and fallen back to sleep and I was slowly eating my way through a plate of French Toast with fresh berries.
“There she is,” Steve said, kissing me hello. “You slept for so long.”
“I guess I was tired,” I agreed. “I’m up now.”
“You otay, mommy?” Pietro asked, coming over to the bed and putting his chin on the side.
“I have a big cut,” I said, caressing his hair. “But I’m okay. I missed you.”
“I misted you too,” he said.
Thor and Bruce lifted both Riley and Pietro up on the side of the bed. “Be careful of your mother, she has an injury,” Thor said.
“Don’t touch her tummy,” Bruce added.
Riley immediately ignored both of her father’s instructions and gently patted my stomach. “Tan I see?”
“It’s just a bandage right now,” I said. “But I can show you when they come and change it if you really want. It has stitches because they had to sew me back up.”
“Otay,” she said and promptly stole a strawberry off my plate and started eating it.
Pietro’s lip began to quiver. “Dey sewed you up?”
“It’s okay, honey,” I said, pulling him in close. “I’m okay and so is your new baby brother. Did you see him?”
“Yeah, he’s borwing,” Riley said, matter-of-factly making me laugh a little.
My mom stepped forward and kissed my cheek. “Congratulations, darling,” she said. “He’s so beautiful. They all are, but Edwin looks just like you when you were born.”
“Thanks, mom,” I replied.
Everyone settled around the room. Some cradling babies while others looked over their shoulders. Everyone was relaxed and happy and completely present as a family. It was a little melancholy to think how back when I was born, my mother had me, and I looked so much like him, and yet I didn’t have this. I would grow up not knowing that this deep love and devotion was a real thing. That I wouldn’t know it until one day when I knocked over an ex-Russian assassin on the way to work and somehow that act would lead her to become fascinated by me.
In the end, it didn’t matter. Every little thing that happened in my life led to this. Me here with the people I loved most. With the people who I had chosen to be a part of my life. I wouldn’t change a single thing if it meant I would lose this. I might not have known it growing up, but my kids would. This was my family.

What is your interpretation/view on Steve's PTSD?
Canon-wise, it’s an odd mix of getting why it’s not presented enough but also knowing the reason they didn’t wasn’t for how they characterized Steve but because they seem to legit forget and only bring it up themselves when they want to add some Steve angst to an episode. It’s a lot to do with the way I guess I view...viewing. This might not make sense so I’m sorry in advance.
I understand that a show is a story trying to be told. Both episode to episode, but also in a season long arc. But I also understand that the writers and actors and producers are all different factions in a way and they don’t always...line up perfectly. So I understand...
That said, the way I view Steve he's had issues since his mother died as a kid. His relationship with John and then how his mind had to compartmentalize as he enlisted and rose in rank, it was just piling up traumas. While serving, he was very young and it was easier for him to push it all aside as he focused on the next op, on keeping his team alive, at making his country and superiors proud. With Five-Oh, the speed is toned down. Five Oh still does a lot of high action stuff, but the constant ops of a SEAL like him changes. He’s no longer around other SEALs and their mentality of ‘it’s just part of the life’. His Ohana understands as best as their able of his military side, but they also know that it’s not all he is...and more so since starting Five-Oh. So it’s a journey...it’s a bridge Steve has to cross. A very dangerous one, full of traps and trauma, and even if Steve did his best to navigate through it, he never could get past the center of it.
It’s like a sort of limbo. Part of it is because the show never tackled it properly They teased it here and there. Any claims of them doing it is bullshit because if they cared about Steve and his ptsd they would have had it been part of it from the beginning. It’s okay if they didn’t want to tackle that story line as hard, but at least acknowledging it more...even if it was in him denying it, but Danny or others around him seeing signs? Talking to him.
I would have loved to see Steve go to group talks actually. But they didn’t. They gave Eddie’s ptsd more actual attention and just piggypacked the seriousness of Steve’s own issues to his dog. Which....speaks to ...I’m not gonna start that. I’ll vent forever about PL’s lack of care for the characters. BACK TO MY INTERPRETATION!!! With the mix of what canon did, Steve is sometimes stuck by his ptsd. He can’t move forward completely because of his survivor’s guilt. There’s a lot of people he thinks should be there instead of him, he’s tormented by the people he couldn’t bring back with him.
The only reason he hasn’t crumbled and isn’t completely crippled by his depression and guilt over all of his losses is honestly Danny and his Ohana. On that metaphorical limbo bridge where Steve looks back to the decaying start where all of the ghost of all those he thinks he’s failed smiled at him, they point him to the other side, the side he technically belongs at despite wanting to run back to try in vain to save them all.
On the other side, the side of the still living, Danny and Five-Oh and all the others friends he’s made along the way who loves him for him, call his name...they urge him toward them! And even though each step feels like a ton to make, he makes it...each and every day that he wakes up...
Danny...stubborn, insane, loyal Daniel who is always breaking rules for him, is always running onto that bridge and helping him towards the side of the living.
So if he were ever to lose Danny, there would be no question. He would lose his battle against his ptsd and would run, without a second thought, towards the side of the dead....
He should be scared of how dependent he is of Danny to live but...that’s just fact at this point.
