Hi! I am a UK based trans artist and writer looking to pursue a private hysterectomy. I run an Etsy store (you may even have one of my stickers or badges!) and work part time but am still struggling to save much of anything towards surgery due to debt, living costs, etc so I’m looking for a little bit of help!
The reason I am pursuing a hysterectomy now is due to having cervical ectropion. This condition is where the cervix is essentially inside out and causes bleeding and excruciating pain. Frustratingly enough the treatment for this condition worked for all of two weeks before returning straight back to how it used to be. Cervical ectropion is aggravated by fluctuating hormone levels, particularly estrogen, so if I was to ever experience atrophy and seek treatment for that it would only make my ectropion far worse. The NHS does not offer hysterectomies for this condition due to them deeming it “a harmless condition”. Funnily enough the only procedure they approve of to “treat” this is a tubal ligation which has nothing to do with the cervix (make it make sense).
I could attempt to get a hysterectomy through my GIC (Nottingham), however their communication is abysmal, I get one appointment a year with them and I cannot sit by and wait for the topic to come up on their terms, they never even spoke to me about top surgery (after telling me they would) leaving me to get that privately too, and I think even if they do approve a referral it’d take far too long and I would have little control in the situation. I simply cannot be in this pain for however long they wish to take to help me. Especially with how things are going for trans healthcare.
So I’m looking to get it privately. I have been recommended Mr Saurabh Phadnis with Nuffield Health in London due to him approving hysterectomies for many reasons and getting rid of everything you wish to remove and not just the bare minimum. I would like to go with him as I wish to remove everything including the cervix. My GP is happy to do a referral for him, so it is literally just a case of getting the funds. I was quoted an estimate of roughly £9000. I’m not going to ask for people to send me that amount as I know it is a huge sum to ask for. I’m hoping to raise as much as I can by about January/February time (through donations, etsy sales, and anything I can spare from my part time job) and look at taking out a loan for whatever is left over and if I can save even a third of the full amount that would help immensely.
A hysterectomy would truly change everything. I don’t want to take depo injections for the rest of my life, I don’t want to be in pain anymore and I don’t want to bleed randomly throughout the day because I dared to go for a walk. This is not just for transition purposes, this is so I can live without fear of further pain, more bleeding, being unable to treat potential atrophy because of an existing condition, HPV, cervical cancer, pregnancy scares etc.

Even if you can’t donate, please take a moment to share. It’d mean the world to me.
#also if anyone has any questions about cervical ectropion feel free to ask! it's not talked about a lot in terms of trans healthcare#trans#transgender#transsexual#queer#trans artist#kofi#transmonstera

HOLY FUCKING SHIT i just tried putting a tampon in for the first time at the ripe old age of almost-20 and it’s one of the worst things that’s ever happened to me???? it hurt so fucking much holy fuck. i took it back out almost immediately, it was so uncomfortable. why do so many women choose to do this to themselves
I've never used a tampon bc scary but I've just never really understood why that would be your first choice and why it's the most common choice. I always used pads and while they may not be the most secure, they're comfy and dont require insertion so they were always my first choice (never used anything else). lichrally why would you choose this!!! they're so horrible they need to be abolished tbh
#ask#anon#I've heard mooncups are good but idk abt actually putting anything up my cooch that shit is terrifying#plus i have cervical ectropion which is sort of similar to vaginismus and is agonisingly painful wrt penetration#so id probably just stick with pads if i still had a period

Ectropion (drooping Eyelids)
Ectropion is a condition in which your eyelid ,the lower lid turns out. This leaves the inner eyelid surface exposed and prone to irritation. Ectropion is more common in older adults.

Ectropion Repair and Corrective Eye Surgery in Fairfax, VA
As we age, our eyelid skin begins stretching. This can cause your lower eyelid to turn outward. This is called an ectropion. Outward-turning eyelids can cause redness, dryness, discomfort, excessive tearing, and eye irritation. But with corrective eyelid surgery to repair this condition, you can avoid these eye health issues and potential for vision loss. https://www.eyeplasticmd.com/surgical-procedures/ectropion-repair

"Ghufran is a disabled 8-year-old in Gaza. She has a life-threatening skin disorder called icthyosis. She also has ectropion, meaning her eyelids are turned inside out bc of her tight skin. She can't blink or close her eyes." (copied from original fundraising post)
Ghufrans donations have stalled for a few days but shes very close to her goal!
As of June 19th 2024, shes at:
$43,542 raised of $50,000 goal
with just a bit more of a push I think she can reach her goal very soon

anyway i wish ectropion/entropion were taken much more seriously as faults in pedigree dogs because i guarantee if you had to live with either of these eye malformations you'd really not enjoy having it!!
#see how long you can manage pulling down on your eyelid and exposing the pink part to the outside#feels pretty bad!

SO I have been rewatching some episodes and I realized something I hadn't before and, well, I made a little oppsie. So I actually thought Dante's eyes, like the pink part, was natural Ectropion. A common condition in dogs where the lower eyelids droop or roll out. Its normal in some species and while it can cause issues or be a sign of illness, normally its just droopy skin.
I thought that was what Dante had. However re watching some episodes, I'm now pretty sure its makeup. When his lower lids lift up, it stays pink. Plus when Dylan pretended to be a goth, he got the same make up.
Had I figured that out before, I likely would have done some things differently in NSBAW, however now Dante just has Ectropion. He got it from his mom along with his eye colour.
Just some stuff I was thinking about.

FUCK i had to make an emergency gynecologist appointment and i would’ve had to wait until tuesday to see a woman so i had to book a visit with a man. it’s my first time seeing a gyno which is stressful enough but i also have to go to a fucking dude. i genuinely feel like crying and throwing up, not even using meme vernacular right now
fuuuck I'm so sorry, I can't imagine how scary this must feel. I had one appointment with a male doctor regarding reproductive help and that was horrible and nerve wracking, and it wasn't even invasive, it was just to get the implant in my arm replaced. I avoid gynecological altogether because this is my worst nightmare. I'm really sorry, I've got no real advice to offer here other than just try and relax leading up to the appointment (easier said than done, I know) to make it as easy as possible. Men should never be allowed into the field of gynaecology. I really hope this appointment goes well for you and you get the treatment you need
#ask#anon#i really am sorry this is happening#I've never had a gynecological appointment before and im putting off getting a pap smear (i got my letter in the mail about a month ago)#its just so scary#i had a checkup last august that ended in me being diagnosed with cervical ectropion. and then nothing happened. no treatment no follow up#i am still in pain and it still feels like my cervix is on fire but whatever its cool i guess :)

This is something different, personal. No one but my partner knows irl but it's really bugging me so I wrote a thing, which, unfortunately people might relate too...
TRIGGER WARNINGS - gender, doctors, potentially terminal illness, operation, medical talk, loss of life
A lump I found over a year ago
Antibiotics, here you go
4 weeks later no change
Antibiotics, a different range
4 weeks more, still the same
Oh well, it doesn't matter I'm not in any pain
3 months postpartum, back up the doctors again
Hi how are you doing, this is your "6" week check up, how is the baby, he's sleeping through the night? Congratulations, what a glorious sight.
Contraception, baby inspection, any other questions?
Actually, I'm still bleeding, it's probably nothing
Birth was crazy I might still be healing
It's normal, you've just had a baby
you are probably a bit crazy
How's your diet, what's your weight
It's pretty average nothing's change
Oh you're actually 14 weeks bleeding, that's not great.
Anyway I'm busy have a good day and don't forget, remember every word I say
14 weeks after my baby, he's my third
I don't really think I'm crazy,
It's still as heavy as it was on that day
Oh, you're busy?
I understad, you're in demand
Peoples health in your hands
4 months on, It's still the same
A different doctor please
They didn't listen to what I had to say
Blood tests
Infection risks
Negative, nothing on our list
Speculum examination
Doctors concentration
Silence
I'm staring at the ceiling
"What was your last cervical screening?"
I've never had one
It's never seemed super important
Urgent appointment
You have a cervical irregilation
No explanation
I'm doing my research
what could it be?
Cervical ectropion, pap test, colposcopy, biopsy
Is this happening to me?
Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, 1, 2 and 3 different stages of severity
There's one more possibility
Cervical glandular intraepithelial neoplasia
There's a chance this one turns into cancer
Cancer signs, different stages
Operations, challenges facing
If caught early we can fix it
You can still have children though it'll be different
We remove your cervix but keep your womb
We can do this if we catch it soon
Any later it spreads too fast
Full hysterectomy no questions asked
Chemotherapy, radiation
We won't know yet for weeks, just be patient
I've been patient for over a year, no one has listened to any of my fears.
what if it's been present for far too long?
I look at my babies, they could end up alone.
I know I'm overthinking, but what if I'm right?
How much longer can I worry all night?
I tried to tell you I knew something was wrong, but it's been biology all along.
Biologically I'm female, assigned at birth, but you didn't listen to me because why on earth would someone who aligns different be so worried about the body they were given?
Why am I so different?
Why should my pain be hidden?
Biology has dictated that you could missed something that stop my existence.

top to bottom:
Ptysical or shrunken eye. Known as Ptysis bulbi
damage to upper levator muscle with ruptured globe repair
corneal scar with ectropion caused by lid scarring
Lid tarsorapphy with present wound scar

Why can you not have kids if you don’t mind me asking? Coming from someone who worries about their reproductive health for a plethora of reasons
I'll pop this under a cut, for those that want to scroll past. Trigger warning for fertility issues.
In my teens I went to an STI clinic because I was experiencing spotting between periods and this is a common symptom of chlamydia. My test came back negative, but upon further investigation it was discovered that I had an ectropion - this basically causes your cervix to slowly erode over time. Apparently it's quite a common condition and completely benign, so it doesn't require medical attention, but it does mean that you are more susceptible to bleeding between periods and bleeding if you have sex that's on the rougher side.
Fast forward to age 25 and I go for my first cervical screening - they found stage three cancerous cells, so I had emergency surgery under general anaesthetic to have all of my cervical lining removed.
That, combined with the ectropion has caused irreparable damage to the structural integrity of my reproductive organs - I can conceive, but I can't carry to full term - my body basically collapses under the weight of it. So, yeah, no kids for me.

The Importance of Specialized Care from an Oculoplastic Surgeon
In the ever-evolving field of medical science, specialization is the cornerstone of exceptional patient care. This holds especially true in the domain of ophthalmology, where intricate and highly specialized procedures often determine the difference between impaired and optimal vision. Among these specialized professionals, Oculoplastic Surgeon play a pivotal role. They combine the precision of ophthalmology with the artistry of plastic surgery to address functional, reconstructive, and aesthetic concerns involving the eyes and surrounding structures. At Amanat Eye Hospital, the expertise of oculoplastic surgeons ensures world-class care tailored to each patient’s unique needs.
What is an Oculoplastic Surgeon?
An oculoplastic surgeon is a medical professional who specializes in surgeries involving the eyelids, orbit (the bony socket of the eye), tear ducts, and surrounding facial structures. This dual expertise in ophthalmology and plastic surgery makes them uniquely qualified to manage conditions that require both functional restoration and aesthetic improvement.
Key areas of focus for oculoplastic surgeons include:
Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty): Corrects droopy eyelids, removes excess skin, and restores a youthful appearance.
Tear Duct Surgery (Dacryocystorhinostomy): Addresses blocked tear ducts to improve tear drainage.
Orbital Surgery: Treats conditions like tumors, fractures, and thyroid eye disease.
Facial Rejuvenation: Offers cosmetic procedures like Botox, fillers, and surgical lifts to enhance the appearance around the eyes.
Reconstructive Surgery: Repairs damage caused by trauma, cancer removal, or congenital abnormalities.
Why Specialized Care is Essential
1. Delicate Anatomy of the Eye and Surrounding Structures
The eye and its surrounding areas are among the most intricate and sensitive parts of the human body. Procedures in this region require exceptional precision to avoid complications and ensure optimal results. Oculoplastic surgeons have advanced training to handle this complexity, making them the ideal choice for surgeries in these delicate areas.
2. Functional and Aesthetic Balance
Oculoplastic procedures often aim to restore function while maintaining or enhancing aesthetic appeal. For instance, repairing a droopy eyelid not only improves vision but also enhances facial symmetry. The dual expertise of oculoplastic surgeons ensures that both functional and cosmetic outcomes are achieved seamlessly.
3. Comprehensive Management of Eye-Related Conditions
Certain conditions, such as thyroid eye disease or orbital tumors, require a multidisciplinary approach. Oculoplastic surgeons collaborate with other specialists to provide holistic care, addressing both the underlying condition and its impact on the eye and surrounding structures.
Common Conditions Treated by Oculoplastic Surgeons
1. Ptosis (Droopy Eyelids)
Ptosis can obstruct vision and affect the appearance of the eyes. Oculoplastic surgeons perform blepharoplasty or other corrective procedures to lift the eyelids, improving both function and aesthetics.
2. Entropion and Ectropion
Entropion: Inward turning of the eyelid, causing irritation from eyelashes rubbing against the eye.
Ectropion: Outward turning of the eyelid, leading to dryness and exposure.
Both conditions are treated surgically to restore proper eyelid positioning.
3. Tear Duct Blockage
Blocked tear ducts can cause excessive tearing and recurrent infections. Procedures like dacryocystorhinostomy create a new tear drainage pathway, relieving symptoms.
4. Thyroid Eye Disease
This autoimmune condition can cause bulging eyes, double vision, and other complications. Oculoplastic surgeons manage these symptoms through orbital decompression surgery and other interventions.
5. Eyelid Tumors and Trauma
Oculoplastic surgeons expertly remove tumors while preserving eyelid function and appearance. They also reconstruct eyelids damaged by trauma or previous surgeries.
Advanced Techniques in Oculoplastic Surgery
1. Minimally Invasive Procedures
Modern oculoplastic surgery often employs minimally invasive techniques that reduce recovery time and minimize scarring. For example:
Endoscopic surgeries for tear duct blockages.
Laser-assisted blepharoplasty for precision and quicker healing.
2. Use of Advanced Imaging
Technologies like CT scans and MRI provide detailed views of the eye’s anatomy, aiding in accurate diagnosis and surgical planning.
3. Customized Approaches
Every patient’s needs are unique. Oculoplastic surgeons tailor their techniques to achieve the best possible outcomes for each individual.
