Turns out a proper book press is way more effective than stacking math textbooks lol. Still ended up having to squash the press under said math textbooks for the added weight. It was surprisingly easy to make too, though I suspect the plywood I scavanged is a little too thin.

Made a ton of progress today. Book boards are made from some thick chip board looking material I found in the shop supply closet (the label said ecoboard?). Stopped by Blick on the weekend to pick up some decorative paper and the black book cloth. I don't know what it's so satisfying to see a completed case? All the edges are so straight and clean?? I'm very blessed that my uni's makerspace just has all these tools available to use, I've only had to supply my bone (plastic) folder and the PVA glue.

I think the spine was glued a little crooked, but crooked width-wise so it's hopefully hard to tell with the finished product. Letting the glue dry overnight and I should hopefully have a finished product by tomorrow!

Stitching signatures complete. I fucked up and forgot to check how the thread would line up with the holes on the stencil to wrap around the tapes so now the middle stitch is extra long. Need to fix that in my stencil before I commit to a laser cut one. Also need to get better at punching holes, they're not quite on the creases for this one. I guess 8 pages/signature was too much.

I think I had to restart the first two signatures four or five times because of continuous fuckups, but at least once you get into the grove it becomes really relaxing. Not sure if the threads are supposed to feel this loose or if that gets fixed at the gluing stage? Feels like the signatures have a lot of room to slide around.
