hi amanda!! i’ve been wanting to ask—what sparked your interest in shipping steve/katya, and what about their dynamic keeps you coming back? i’m not typically a rarepair person (bc i can’t do the lack of canon content 😭) so i’m curious!

Hi Maybe! I’m delighted to answer 😃

I started first thinking about them around the time season 2 ended. I was planning on drawing raeda’s wedding reception (which I still never drew—rip) and was thinking about where everyone should go—Gwen and Dell watching fondly along with Lilith and Hooty and King, Willow dragging Hunter onto the dance floor, Gus and Mattholomule goofing around together, etc etc. Then I thought about the CATs and I went hm! wouldn’t it be cute if Steve and Katya were dancing together! After all, they officially know each other and are technically coworkers! Why not, I thought!

That was supposed to be the end of it. (It wasn’t).

I just couldn’t stop thinking about them. I think what intrigues me most about their dynamic is that they are two people who wear masks for opposing reasons, one a scout for the Emperor and one a rebel against said empire. I’m a sucker for dramatic irony, and what’s better than lovers on opposite sides of the law? As far as we know they met for the first time in canon in O Titan, but I love thinking about the possibilities of them knowing each other beforehand. There’s just something so fascinating to me about that that I wish I could put it into words.

And for what it’s worth, from the little we have seen of them, they do actually have things in common. They both like food (which yeah I know who doesn’t lol) and they both like love and romance (Katya with her fan fiction and Steve crying at the old ladies in love) They’re both extremely loyal and they both have a bit of a silly side too. And they’re both non-conformists in a way (Katya is more obvious for this one but for Steve too, even as a scout he was the only one who we saw try to express his individuality with his t-shirts, and he was the only scout shown to be still loyal to Lilith by the time of her party). Also they’re both hot and make a good looking couple At this point too I’ve written so much fic about them and dove so deep into their characters I’m pretty much past the point of no return lol

So yeah! I just really like them a lot! Honestly I’ve never gotten this attached to a rare pair before but I’m certainly having fun! Thanks for asking!!

Thank you and @eclispedbyglory for requesting this one! Bit of context: this is an au of sorts where the boys reconcile shortly after SVSF. The other HAS members quit after finding out about Matt snitching on Luz:

Augustus opened the door to the classroom where the HAS meetings were held. Although it was still the club’s meeting time, the classroom was empty aside from the new president who was slumped on the floor with his head in his hands. Gus spotted his crown nearby on the ground and picked it up, taking a seat next to Mattholomule.

“Eileen told me what happened.”

Matt looked up, glaring at him with red eyes. “Yeah? What’s it to you? If you’re here to take back your dumb presidency, go ahead, I don’t care.”

Gus turned the crown over between his hands. “I didn’t come here for that.”

“What did you come here for then? To make fun of me?” he spat, “To laugh about what a pathetic loser I am because I can’t keep my club members from quitting?”

Gus frowned. “No—I didn’t—“

Matt held his hand up to stop him. “Don’t bother. I get it. I stole your club. If I were you I’d hate me too.”

“I don’t hate you.”

Matt blinked. “What?”

Gus repeated himself: “I don’t hate you.”

Mattholomule looked down at his lap. “Well you should. I was a jerk.”

“True,” Gus said, knocking his shoulder into the other, “but I should’ve been more receptive to what the other members wanted. And I shouldn’t have used Luz for my own selfish reasons.”

Matt raised an eyebrow and cocked his head to the side. “What are you trying to say?”

“Well, I was thinking…maybe we could call a truce. Maybe the HAS could have two presidents.”

Mattholomule’s eyes widened before narrowing. “Is this some kind of trick?”

“Dude, you’re the one who tricked me, remember? Besides, I just saved you from the detention pit, did that mean nothing to you?”

“No, you’re right, sorry I—uh, didn’t have the best experiences with my classmates at Glandus.” Matt rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.

“Oh, so there was some truth to that whole speech you made, huh?” Gus asked with a teasing grin.

Matt rolled his eyes. “Don’t get ahead of yourself. It’s not like we’re friends or something now…are we?”

Augustus stood up and held out a hand to help the constructionist up. “Hmm, I don’t know, that depends.”

“Depends on what?”

“Do you think you could make some more of those human replicas?”

5- Whats your dream role?

I’m think Jared (from Dear Evan Hansen) for this one. I like that he’s the comic relief, but still has scenes full of eMoTiOn. He can also be a little bit of an asshole, which can be fun to play. Not to mention he doesn’t have a crazy singing part.

6- Whats a role that you’d like to play that you’d never be able to?

For this one I’m thinking Jeremy Heere. (from Be More Chill) The chances of me getting a lead in a musical is slim as it is, and its not a simple part. If there was ever a gender swapped version of BMC, then I’d be all for it. There really should be a gender swapped BMC though. A female squip would be amazing to see.
