❝ dancing shoes — ♡

          ariel does actually know some of the convex songs   —   meaning don’t at her as in @ her for knowing certain songs the most, i.e. the vocal unit songs or a certain someone’s lines, but this does feel new to her. essentially collaboration stages but, alas, nothing to do with that person in particular. instead, ariel feels a certain apprehension towards it if only because of haseul’s dance partner in particular. she wonders if haseul knows . . . about jennie that is and she doesn’t especially think haseul needs to know but it is interesting how someone’s existence continues to weave into that of those around her. even more so intriguing is that haseul was chosen. 

          it isn’t that ariel thinks haseul is a bad dancer. on the contrary, she thinks haseul and her have come so far ( because they had a lot of room to grow but whatever ) but that she knows how haseul views her own dancing and having the spotlight in such a way. no matter if it’s her own element, a singing stage, haseul shows doubts in her own performances and ariel is often saddened by the idea, about as much as she scolds haseul for not being more confident. so she stops by the practice room she knows haseul was still in and peeks her head in, wiggling her brows as she asks, “ everyone decent in here? ” despite knowing haseul isn’t practicing with anyone at the moment. how often will she get to joke about this kind of situation?

The day after the grand Halloween event, the girls have gathered once again inside a typical practice room. With their comeback already planned, they should all be kept in check.

“I hope you all had a lot of fun yesterday,” Kim Geonwook, their dance coach, starts things off, “because from today on we’ll work on getting everything right, which shouldn’t be as fun.” He starts by staring at the newest member. “What we worked on the most was getting Joohyun to learn all the songs she needed to. She did her job, but the struggle now is to get you all in sync. This isn’t like changing a tire where you just it into a new one and the car starts to move. Each screw needs to be properly fixed and, right now, she isn’t the only problem. Because you aren’t used to her as well, you can’t anticipate her movements, which leads to people not matching each other.”

He claps his hands together once. “But, Joohyun, you’re a good dancer. At the start of this, we had to push each of the members to work on their dance to make this teamwork. Now, I believe you can all do well together. My diagnosis to you is a lot of hard work and maybe some bonding time.” And so their month starts. To help with bonding, the coach prepared some trust exercises such as trust falls, but since that’s not really his style, they quickly moved over to just practicing their moves. With that the coming months have prepared, the group needs to go through the same routines over and over again not to screw up on the most viewed live shows of the year. 

Two weeks after her audition, Minji receives the news on November 10th right from her manager about how the producers got interested in her for the role. However, how this will be a big-scale project, things can’t be confirmed with one simple audition. Between all the people who tried for the part on the month before, five of them remain, including Minji. She’s told to return for a second round of auditions on November 24th. This time, more information was given on the project in hopes that it’ll inspire the candidates on doing the best job. The drama will follow a group of rich, privileged high school students as they are about to take over their families' business empires, overcoming difficulties and growing every step of the way. The role they’re auditioning for, however, is of Cha Eunsang, a down-to-earth and somewhat cynical woman who diligently works part-time jobs to support herself and her mother. When they arrive on the scheduled day, the five finals actresses looking for the role will receive a scene on the spot to study for in a set of minutes before performing it. They’ll also receive an impromptu prompt to act on-the-spot in a group scene. The final results will come out the following month.

Since Eclipse were invited to some end-of-the-year shows, that means that Joohyun will have to perform with them live for the first time. Before that can happen, the girls will be taken out to record a reveal video for their new member. They’ll go on November 11th to record the video outside. It’ll follow the essence of this video, but the content will be different. Following Joohyun’s reveal video for the KTROOKIES project, all five girls will be recorded on the busy streets of Seoul while the cars zoom past the streets. They’ll be moving as if they’re looking for something with their faces never being completely visible. That’s until another car crosses the screen and Joohyun is revealed standing on the other side. They’ll also be recording a video like this one next to the Han River. These will be uploaded later in the month. The girls will be using the outfits as seen in this image (without the skates).

In order to avoid the harsh cold of December, the group will be recording the music video of their title song still in November. Their comeback will happen in early January. On November 12th, the girls will go out to their usual hair salon to make needed changes, or just to make sure their hair is in good condition.

On November 16th, the group will go out for their album photoshoot. This will consist of two different sets, one inspired by these images ( 1, 2, 3, 4 ) and another by these ( 1, 2, 3, 4 ). The day after, their music video recordings will start.

The first award in line is on November 30th, it’ll be the Melon Music Awards which will take place at the Gocheok Sky Dome. ‘Me Gustas Tu’ will be the only track they’ll perform. They’ll enter the stage while an intro audio plays before breaking into the song. For this event, they’ll all be wearing wigs to hide their new hair colors. This will be their first public group performance with Joohyun on the team.

December 4th is the date of the Mnet Asian Music Awards. This will be their first stage after their comeback. Their stage will be slightly based on this video and this video. This means that Eclipse’s stage will be highly linked to Convex’s, however, the two groups will not practice together until the day before the show for the final stage check. Since the event will take place in Japan, they’ll fly over there on the day before and return soon after the end of the event. Their roommates were separated as Anna&Haseul&Joohyun and Blue&Jennie&Minji. For the pairs, Minji will be Sinb; Anna will be Yerin; Blue will be Eunha. On the dance duet, Haseul will be Yuju. The stage will start with Haseul singing one of her lines from ‘Me Gustas Tu’ (2:20-2:25). Blue will do Eunha’s part from behind the stairs, also from ‘Me Gustas Tu’ (0:26-0:35), leading into the song’s performance. For the duo dance and onwards, the girls will put a robe on top of their previous outfits as seen here. Haseul will sing one of her lines from ‘Chase Me’ this time (1:02-1:07) before they head into this song’s performance.

❝ rollin’ with the homies — ♡

          back home in california, skating was one of the few sports ariel did partake in. rollerblading, of course, because that’s what the linear ones are called, right? but it’s roller skating with the four-wheels that she used to love. it reminds her of middle school and high school and awkward group hang-outs that are more like giant group dates where people pair off without arranging it properly. she supposes they could’ve learned better from how group dates are done in korea. they’re practically mini-parties, not that ariel lets people know she’s been before or that it looks a lot more fun in dramas so she wanted to try once or twice. 

          but nothing’s ever quite like the movies, except maybe this moment as ariel skates around ahyoung, hands reaching out for her roommate before she ends up doing one of the tragically cliche hand movements from clueless as she sings, “ rolling with the homies ~ ” coming to a stop after a spin, she throws her arms dramatically around sun. “ so how’s it rollin’ for you? ”

❝ 새롭게 시작해 볼래 너 그리고 나   —   11월12일       ✦

          let’s start fresh, you and me   —   she thinks that’s what today is meant to feel like. starting fresh, because even though it’s a different comeback and technically the same number, six group members, they’re starting fresh in a way none of them would’ve expected. six chairs, six different styles, a bittersweet feeling. that’s how she especially feels looking at yeri go from beautiful golden hair to match her energetic, vitamin-role in the group to brown. that’s how she feels seeing ahyoung’s hair rise into fire the way she’s been called before, a firecracker, a phoenix, too hot to touch, too wild to contain. it’s how she feels knowing her own hair will be the most sunkissed in the end. 

          bittersweet because golden hair makes her think of the california sun, fiery red hair reminds her of her days in la and a few years ago when she last auditioned for royal. it reminds her of people she’d done her best lately not to think of. maybe bittersweet is synonymous with nostalgia, with regret, with knowing the past is only that and looking to the future is the best choice they can make from now on. 

          foil in her hair and the smell of bleach destroying her one of her senses for the day, she texts woohyun ‘ you’ll be surprised ‘ and when she thinks of the video they filmed yesterday for joohyun’s addition to the group, she realizes he’ll be surprised a few times over. most things she tells him but this didn’t feel quite right yet. it didn’t feel like she should and she feels a bit guilty for it, as if she didn’t say it because it means suji is really gone, as if she doesn’t say it because saying she’s happy joohyun is with them means she doesn’t care about suji leaving, as if, as if, as if. when she looks down at the phone, she realizes she has so many as if’s. so many things she was hiding, so many things she’s hiding in, and maybe that’s why she was given blonde hair for this comeback, so that maybe her true feelings, her true self might shine through a little more than usual.

❝ 하얀 진심을 담아   —   11월24일       ✦

          choosing an audition piece this time around still proves to be as complicated as the first. does she choose something similar to the theme of the show that’s been disclosed so far? does she choose the opposite to show more versatility? does she panic at the idea of another lead role, of losing it to the others auditioning with her? that begs the question: can she lose something that isn’t hers? seems like a valid question, one that applies to too many things at the moment. 

          in the end, she relies on her tried and true methods   —   an excuse to watch drama scenes for reference but she comes back to the same show she loves most, to the one the synopsis for this new drama reminded her of. if only she knew how different it was. either way, she can’t deny that she loves all versions of the show but the korean one isn’t her favorite. there’s small differences and changes here but there is one concept that’s stayed the same, as cliche as it is: the male lead will do anything for the female lead, even when he’s lost his memory. 

          a forlorn expression, a necklace that’s no longer a token of affection but a mere trinket in the hands of the other. ariel thinks she might know that part a little too well. then again, she’s never been the type to also wear a necklace with initials etched into gold. there’s no direct sentiment that can be tied to her, unlike the one for this scene, unlike the writing of ‘ jj ’ that ought to be written in stone, in the stars, anywhere and everywhere for a love as formidable as this one turns out to be.  

          the character she chooses to play knows her counterpart better than he does   —   so much so she’s willing to bet her life on it and ariel wonders what it’s like, pretends that she does as she tells him   —   or well, one of the judges, casting agents, whatever they deem themselves   —   just how well she knows him with such loneliness, such yearning for his memory to come back, to remember her, to remember them. 

          “ you’re a lonely but affectionate person. that’s exactly who you are, ” a list of his faults that comes to this: to the most subtle of confessions, more said in her eyes than in her words. all in all, it comes down to a name. a different way to say, to insist, to demand, you know me. 

          and that’s when she’s meant to take the fall, but ariel only takes off her jacket as jandi did, bowing as she says 끝   —   this was the fall she took, the hope in that they’ll say her name, that they’ll choose her in the end. after all, isn’t that what auditions are for? 

          you know me, choose me.

❝ 꿈에서 깨어나   —   11월10일       ✦

          waiting is the hardest part   —   or so she thought, because getting more details this time around makes her feel genuinely nervous, and just as much as how happy it makes her. the last month went by so quickly but so did her thoughts, her worries, her concerns. instead of thinking that there’s too much going on for what will be joohyun’s debut with them, their first full album, she’s begun to think more along the lines of isn’t it exciting that they’re working on so much? 

          that they’ll be participating in so much, that it feels so official that way that they’re idols. rookies still, of course, but to be invited to so many events? to receive calls and offers, isn’t that a sign of their growing success? she’d like to see it that way, to think that they’re proving themselves as eclipse. 

          when yeunhye tells her of the details, ariel almost laughs because it’s high school again and it was already funny the first time around in dream high. this time, she has to admit she might like the premise a little more because it reminds her of a certain series she’s adored for years. more than one of them, matter of fact. 

          “ unnie, did you know the time i’ve worn a school uniform the most in my life is dream high. do you think this show would beat it? ” and now she can’t help laughing, because the truth is she might not get it, the truth is it might not work with their schedule and if she had to choose between this opportunity and eclipse, of course she would choose the girls. if only that was a decision none of them would have to make: solo activities or the group. 

          because if they truly are eclipse, surely they can do it all right?

❝ one in a melon — ♡

          this time around, ariel wants to be the one to find jennie alone in the dorm first. with the other members spread throughout the dorm, all she needs is really but a small moment with her cousin to confirm what she’s been thinking, what she’s known has been possible since jennie was added to the group even despite her own worries. as soon as she finds jennie in her room, no yeri in sight, ariel is quick to shuffle in   —   too quick, in fact, that she bumps her shin against the edge of one of the desks in the room, wincing as she leans down to briefly rub her leg. it’s quickly forgotten once she’s in reach and can take both her cousin’s hands, squeezing them tightly in her own. 

          “ wasn’t earlier so exciting? even if those wigs are annoying and hot. didn’t it feel hot? ” admittedly, she was actually worried at least one of their wigs would slip or peek through. but, then again, some of the hair changes were more subtle. it was more so half of them that had a somewhat drastic or very drastic change. ariel still jokingly whines that she smells the bleach to their manager unnie only to be made fun of for probably not showering enough. she takes great offense to that accusation! 

          with another squeeze, her tone softens, her expression is gentler, her gaze more adoring than it naturally is towards one of her youngest cousins. “ that award was yours tonight too, you know that, don’t you? how could we be a hot trend without the ever-so-creative kim jennie? our powerful all-rounder. you’ve been working so hard, i didn’t think it was possible to be more proud of you but i am. you’re one in a melon, you know, ” she laughs, though the way her eyes water are more telling.

❝ dramarama — ♡

          knock knock   —   if she’d actually said it instead of tapping her fist against the doorframe, she would’ve walked into yeri and jennie’s shared room singing a catchy song instead of focusing on the task at hand. though she isn’t too sure how much of a task it truly is. barely even advice she’d say, because she’d yet to connect with a certain scene as the right one for the audition. at least a girl can’t be blamed for trying. so she comes to yeri in her time of need, exaggerating her exhaustion as she takes a seat and almost flops on yeri’s bed with her, laptop open to youtube with various tabs open. 

          “ what do you think i should do for the second audition? it took soooo long to pick the first time. ooh, wait i told you what they told me about the drama right? it’s a high school drama. i should be flattered they think i can still pull that off, right? ”gaze landing on the different titles she has open, she sighs, looking to yeri as she sulks. “ do you think i should use a scene from another school drama or maybe do something completely different? my last audition was way different. a lot darker, i think . . . so maybe i should avoid that? ”
