Local Competition
The food delivery service industry is a new and exciting field of business that has been steadily growing over the past few years. It's completely normal to order takeout from your favorite restaurant just about anywhere now. Still, some companies have taken it one step further, using only mobile phones to communicate with customers. The best part? These services never close; you can request anything at any time without ever having to worry about finding someone on call. If you want something delivered right away, they'll be able to get it done in no more than 30 minutes or less (sometimes even faster). Some notable names include GrubHub and Eat24Hours, and Uber Eats.
Therefore, with so many different service providers, it can be challenging to decide which one is the best option for your needs. For that reason, I will examine their website experience and other factors such as price point and social media presence to identify what they are doing well and where improvements need to be made on these top 3 competitors before we launch our venture online ordering food delivery services into a new market.
With a click of the mouse, you can order anything from your favorite restaurant. But with all these options popping up on your screen at once, it's hard to know which one should win out in terms of price and quality. This is where GrubHub steps into play as they have created an easy way for users to find their perfect food by sorting through restaurants based on ratings or specific types that are desired (such as vegetarian). In addition, there is also Eat24Hours available who offer services such as dinner delivery within 2 hours- making sure those late-night cravings get satisfied no matter what time it may be! And finally, Uber Eats has been providing top-notch service since 2017, with over 600 different cities being offered across America. They deliver fast and offer all varieties of food from top restaurants hence all being convenient in their unique ways.
The prices for GrubHub, Eat24Hours, and Uber Eats are very similar. This is because these companies offer a service that directly competes with each other: food delivery from the comfort of your home or office kitchen table to where you need it most - on time. This is because the internet has revolutionized the food industry, and you now have a plethora of choices to order in your favorite meal from all over.
Moreover, GrubHub is one location where people can go if they're looking for some fast delivery service that offers lower price points than others on this list. The cost per item ranges between $2-$13 depending on what type of dish it is; their chicken tenders are only two dollars! Eat24Hours also provides affordable options like these-they vary anywhere from $5 to $ 10 each depending on how many items you choose at once (though there's no set limit). And finally, the UberEATS menu ranges between six and eight dollars, depending on the restaurant you are ordering from. Some of these dishes can be found for less than $8, with an average price point at around three or four dollars per item.
Finally, GrubHub, Eat24Hours, and Uber Eats have all enlisted the help of advertising agencies to create a social media presence for their company. These firms are tasked with creating an online profile that will attract potential clientele and keep customers excited about what's happening at these restaurants through informative posts on Facebook or Twitter. These companies know how important it is to reach out digitally to stay competitive among other businesses, so they make sure every dollar spent goes towards reaching this goal by using different creative strategies like leveraging Instagram Stories while also making innovative use of hashtags such as #foodporn which can be used alongside their business name when posting updates on Snapchat.

Swiggy joins quick grocery delivery race with InstaMart
Tumblr media
BENGALURU: Swiggy is preparing to launch a chain of virtual convenience stores to deliver grocery and household items within 45 minutes, sources told ET, a development that the food app delivery later confirmed.
The launch of InstaMart comes at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic has hastened consumer preference for doorstep deliveries, especially in metros, and as deep-pocketed entrants, including Flipkart Quick, as well as existing players Amazon, BigBasket and Dunzo have heightened focus on this category.
The move has also come amid the entry of Reliance JioMart, which has expanded into 200 cities, a foray that is expected to give stiff competition to established players. Swiggy plans to offer about 2,500 items from its partner ‘dark stores’, the sources who are aware of its plans said. These dark stores do not have walk-in locations and exist only on its app. Swiggy's pilot will begin from Gurugram and will run in Bengaluru subsequently, the people told ET. Swiggy already operates ‘Swiggy Stores’ which lists products from nearby local stores. Even as that will continue, InstaMart is expected will give it tighter control over the delivery experience and product selection.
“With 30-45 minutes deliveries... day and night serviceability (7 am - 12 am), a wide assortment across categories such as instant meals, snacks, ice creams, fruits and vegetables, Instamart will address the unmet grocery needs of the time-pressed, convenience-seeking urban consumer,” a Swiggy spokesperson told ET.
For consumer internet companies, on-demand delivery -- which was a matter of choice before the pandemic struck -- has increasingly become a necessity as consumers fear stepping out due to the risk of infection.
“Earlier, a large set of consumers preferred to handpick their grocery items from nearby shops. Now, suddenly, the market is wide open and competitive...It will come down to consumer experience,” said a person in the know.
Swiggy’s key differentiator is its ability to fulfil deliveries in less than half the time it takes for existing players, but the execution will be complex and be key to its success, the person added.
Last month, ET was the first to report that Flipkart would launch 90-minute grocery delivery in Bengaluru, which it did officially last week. Most e-commerce companies Amazon, Dunzo and BigBasket promise delivery in 90-120 minutes. They also have scheduled delivery slots. “There are about 10 dark stores of 1,800-2,500 sq ft set up in Bengaluru, covering 85-90% catchment areas within a 5-6 km radius,” said another person directly aware of Swiggy’s plans. The average basket size for grocery top-up business is close to Rs 400-450.
Swiggy’s rival Zomato scaled down its grocery delivery business Zomato Market last month, after aggressively pushing it during the first phase of the nationwide lockdown.
Better monetization For Swiggy, the bet on grocery delivery is happening when its core food delivery business is recovering slowly, to only 50% of pre-Covid-19 levels.
The InstaMart launch will give Swiggy better margins from brands and newer monetization opportunities like banner ads in future, an investor in the firm told ET.
“The biggest monetization perspective is that this model offers a direct 15-17% gross margin on products plus the opportunity to monetize brands, compared to marketplace commissions which are close to 4-5%,” the investor said.
Dunzo, Flipkart, BigBasket, and Amazon also use similar fulfilment models to ensure high fill-rates, at better economics. Brands are increasingly preferring to work with online players after the outbreak as physical retailing has taken a big hit.
The movement towards home delivery is also heating up globally. Last week, US-based DoorDash launched its own dark stores called DashMart. And, in China, Missfresh raised $495 million led by China International Capital Corporation. Swiggy investor and China's largest restaurant delivery platform, Meituan Dianping, added grocery to its offering last year.

Popular Free and Open Source Online Food Ordering Software
Tumblr media
While food delivery and online ordering were already on the path to become a $200 billion market by 2025, COVID-19 related lockdowns are resulting in even higher adoption. With dine-in prohibited due to social distancing, most foodservice businesses can now only offer food delivery or takeout to keep their doors open.
If you own or manage a restaurant, chances are you are busy putting systems in place to manage food delivery. And you are not alone! The search for food delivery software has spiked 179%* on our website between February and March 2020.
To help you find tools that don’t require much investment, we have prepared this list of popular free and open source software for online food ordering. We will talk about the features offered by these tools and answer some frequently asked questions (FAQs).
The tools included here are selected based on how frequently they appear on Google’s Search Engine Results Page (SERP), the features they offer, and the presence of a stand-alone free module. To know more about how we selected these tools, read our methodology here.
let us understand what core features they offer.
Online menu: Feature your restaurant’s menu on a website, mobile app, or social media page.
Online ordering: Receive orders through online and offline sources, streamline them, and send them to the kitchen for preparation.
Kitchen management: Notify the kitchen about incoming orders via printed tickets or a digital screen.
Delivery routing: Prepare the shortest route (either with built-in features or via integration with third-party tools) for multiple deliveries and direct delivery agents to customer locations.
Delivery team management: Create profiles for delivery agents (either with built-in features or via integration with third-party tools) and store their personal information in one place.
Delivery zone management: Set the area the restaurant caters to (either with built-in features or via integration with third-party tools).
1. Flipdish
Flipdish helps restaurants and cafes set up branded websites and mobile apps for online ordering. The tool also provides a dashboard for a quick overview of online sales performance, average order value, and order location/source. It offers delivery-related core features via integration with service dispatch and field service management tools.
Highlight to know: The tool offers built-in marketing features to support notifications and loyalty programs. It also offers SEO optimization for websites to help them rank higher in Google SERP.
2. GloriaFood
GloriaFood is an online ordering tool that helps restaurants and cafes receive orders from their websites and Facebook pages. It also offers an app for restaurants to streamline incoming orders and accept or reject them. The tool offers delivery tracking via integration with restaurant delivery software, such as Tookan.
3. Ontabee
Ontabee helps restaurants and cafes streamline online ordering and manage in-house delivery teams. It also offers a digital wallet that customers can recharge and use to pay for orders. Additionally, the tool provides a comment field for customers to add cooking instructions and enables reporting hourly sales, total orders, and total sales.
4. TastyIgniter
TastyIgniter is an open source tool that helps restaurants and cafes set up online ordering and manage incoming orders. You can either plug it into an existing website or use vendor-supplied extensions to create a new website. It also offers features such as customized delivery zones, newsletter campaigns for marketing, and promo codes for discounts.
Online food ordering software typically has one of the following two deployment models:
Cloud-based: The responsibility of hosting and managing the tool rests with the vendor, and you can access the tool via a browser or mobile/web/desktop app. However, cloud-based tools usually come with multiple limitations and are comparatively less flexible.
This is a good option for single-outlet restaurants and cafes that do not have a lot of traffic and want to dip their feet into online food ordering.
On-premise: The responsibility of hosting and managing the tool rests with you, so you’ll need reasonable technical knowledge and some IT infrastructure (such as a small server or cloud-hosting subscription) to use such tools. Open source tools fall in this category and offer a lot of leeway with functionalities since you can tweak them to your unique requirements.
This is ideal for multioutlet restaurants and cafes that can afford to build an IT setup.

Best Food Delivery Apps In India For 2020
Tumblr media
online food ordering in India is on the rise as more and more people are getting access to the internet. For many people like me who live in metro cities and don’t know how to cook, various food delivery apps fill their belly when it’s hunger time.
It doesn’t matter what time of the day it is. Whenever you feel rats dancing in your stomach, just take out your phone to order food online, and some food delivery service will be ready to help you.
Right now, Swiggy, Zomato, and UberEats are some of the top food delivery apps covering multiple cities in India. These food startups have managed to penetrate Tier II and Tier III cities in India which has contributed to their success. But many other food ordering services can bring mouth-watering meals right on your doorstep at affordable prices.
So, here I have compiled some of the best food ordering apps that you can try in various Indian cities.
1. Swiggy
Platforms supported: Android, iOS, Web
Payment options: Cash on Delivery, Wallets (PayTM, Amazon Pay, PhonePe, Freecharge, Mobikwik), Credit/Debit cards, UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe), Food Cards (Zeta, Sodexo), Net Banking,
Areas Served: 100+ cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Gurgaon, etc.)
The food ordering app Swiggy has risen to fame after facing a crisis for a while. It has managed to replace Zomato as the online food delivery king in India.
Swiggy is a 5-year-old startup based out of Bengaluru and offers its delivery services in over 100 cities, making it one of the biggest in the game.
2. Faasos
Platforms supported: Android, iOS, Web
Payment options: Cash on Delivery, Pay Later Faasos Elite, Wallets (PayTM, Amazon Pay, Ola Money), UPI (PhonePe, Google Pay, BHIM), Credit/Debit cards, Netbanking, Sodexo, Paypal
Areas Served: 20+ cities (including Ahmedabad, Pondicherry, Coimbatore, Surat, etc.)
Faasos is a different type of food delivery app that has existed on Indian soil since 2011. Unlike Swiggy and Zomato, who provide food delivery services for other restaurants, Faasos has set up its own cloud kitchens to serve food to its customers.
The popular food startup maintains different sub-brands, including Behrouz Biryani, Lunchbox, Oven Story, etc., offering different food cuisine options when you order food online.
3. UberEats
Platforms supported: Android, iOS, Web
Payment options: Cash on Delivery, PayTM, UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, BHIM, Credit/Debit cards.
Areas Served: 30+ cities (including Ludhiana, Bhopal Kochi, Lucknow, Chandigarh, etc.)
As you might know, UberEats is a food delivery app owned by the popular taxi aggregator Uber, Inc. You can consider this app as the third big fish in the sea of online food delivery apps in India.
It has been almost two years since UberEats has existed in India and become one of the top food delivery apps. In that time, it has managed to make a good reputation among customers in various metro cities.
4. Zomato
Platforms supported: Android, iOS, Web
Payment options: Cash on Delivery, Wallets (PayTM, Freecharge), Cards, Net Banking, UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe), Pay Later (Lazy Pay, Simpl)
Areas Served: 500 cities (including Alappuzha, Pushkar, Azamgarh, Sawantwadi, etc.)
It is a well-known app that many people use to find restaurants and other eateries in their nearby locations. But it also doubles up as a food delivery service in India and offers food choices from hundreds of restaurants depending on the location.
Zomato came into existence back in 2008. Since then, it has expanded not only in India but also in other countries where it mostly offers its restaurant finder service.
5. eat.fit
Platforms supported: Android, iOS, Web
Payment options: Wallets (PayTM, Airtel Money, Ola Money, Amazon Pay), UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe), PayPal, Sodexo, Net Banking, Credit/Debit cards.
Areas Served: 8 cities (Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Pune, etc.
You think of eat.fit as a must-have food delivery app for health-conscious users. It’s operated by the famous fitness startup cure.fit. It was founded by former Myntra co-founder Mayank Bansal and has received major funding from Indian actor Hrithik Roshan.
Just like Faasos, eat.fit also provides meal options prepared by their own staff and doesn’t offer food choices from third-party restaurants when your order food online.
Tumblr media
Comeneat  is the right solution. Comeneat is an online food Order and Delivery platform launched by Roamsoft with a drive to connect the customers to the Restaurant. The process of taking online food orders and delivery is simplified by utilizing this platform.
