Well that was an exceptionally tough shoot at the weekend. The first day of a double WA1440 saw us shooting in a very strong cross wind and being on one of the first targets we really felt the full force of it. Keeping as true as I could to the newer technique I finished 5th at the end of the day. The second day nice and still and should have seen some high scores, but a lack of bow fitness after being battered the day before saw me drop points and finish 6th overall. I'm pleased with that position however, and I know that with a bit more dedication to training over the next few weeks I'll be able shoot the scores I know I can. I've been really pleased with my shooting lately. An important part of progressing is to understand why it is a shoot feels good. I think I can put this down to my new gym reigme, making me stronger and more in control of my shot, as well as having a greater understanding of my shot process. Working my upper body and core with @elevate.fitness.jc has definitely seen an increase in strength after only a short while. I'm hyped to see the effect this has for the outdoor season. My aim is to get my competition bow weight to 65-70% of my 1 rep max (last time I checked I was at ~75%). With my shot, I'm understanding in finer detail how it and I all work together. Understanding my movements that contribute to a strong shot and replicating it is becoming easier. Oxford County Champs today and it really was a game of two halves. The morning saw me struggling with my horizontal groups leading to a below par 11th seeding going into the Head to Heads. No byes for me going into the H2Hs and my first match got off to a slow start, but as I secured a win and moved on, my shooting improved with every opponent. Winning 2 shoot offs in a row (with a blinding X) I ended up in the gold medal match against John Prior and took the win to secure my first ever H2H Gold Medal. Today @georginacutts and I hosted our first tournament, our club's Longbow Open, of which we have many take-aways... Whilst criticism is generally constructive and accepted, it's frustrating and humiliating when these comments come often and in the middle of announcements, all in reference to "oh but in past shoots we did X or Y". Other than that, the shoot ran well and to time with a good many happy archers.
