Mother: Fracture update (1-8-19)
Hi, there! Been a while, hasn’t it? I know I’ve been silent on this project for a while now, but work is still being done “Onett”. Nevertheless, here’s a few small updates to hold you over:
Font:
Yeah, there’s nothing much to this section, just showing you the regular font used during the overworld.
Tumblr media
New sprite style:
Tumblr media
As you can tell, Ava’s design and style have a complete overhaul. The style is supposed to be more reminiscent of the “Mother 4″ style. I feel it’s much easier to deal with compared to the older 2 styles. Additionally, other characters have had minor redesigns as well.
New story and locations:
Starting off, the locations have a brand new names and designs. Now, the story takes place on the Pallete Islands, with locations such as Reed, Orinji (Desert of the Golden Sun), Blues Lake, and Silver Isle. If you weren’t able to tell, all of their names are based on the color palette; this is meant to be similar to the names of locations from the first 2 Mother games.
While the story stays the same most of the way, there are other things that have been added that weren’t fully realized at the start of development.
The Mr. Saturns:
Yeah, they’re in.
That’s all for now, but I’ll (probably) update again in the future. Stay tuned!

earthbound is far more fitting a title for mother 2 because its the only game in the trilogy with no particular “mother” in the story, not counting the earth itself (yes i know the title is far more in reference to the style and philosophy of the game itself than in the literal sense, but that doesnt mean moms arent important in m1/m3)
but what is weird is how the mother logo has the earth in it despite it not having a whole lot specifically to do with the first and third games, but the earthbound logo doesnt (atleast not in earthbound, its present in the mother1 Earthbound title screen)

Happy birthday UT!! I don't have any art as I'd like, but I do have an history to tell.
At the beginning of the year, I started a new job, an administrative position in an hospital. (...Don't ask me how it has been) As my job (used to) be, I had several hours where there was nothing to do. I had downloaded an emulator so I could play through Sega games (my fav), but since it came with other games and EB was on the list, I went "why not".
See, before I played UT, I had never, ever, played a RPG. I had seen playthrougs of OFF and Ib, but I had never played either. But since I had heard so much about Earthbound from being UT main inspo, I decided to give it a chance. The result of that, by the way... Currently replaying it, playing through Eartbound Zero for the first time (I played Mother 1 already, but I wanted to see the translation), overleveling Lucas and Boney so I can go to Tanetane Island with just the two (yes), also overleveling everyone in the Halloween Hack.
So! Eventually, quarantine hit, and now I had even more hours to kill. And I had an idea.
I began then a big project I called "Road To Undertale/Deltarune". The idea was to try to play or watch a playthrough off, depending the case, of every single RPG that influenced UT. (No, I am not rereading Homestuck) Beginning with the Mother series (yes, I know I'm still missing the Dragon Quest series), I watched/played so many RPGs since then. The fun part? I am nowhere near done yet! There's DG, for one, and others that I still have yet to experience.
Another fun fact: the only other RPG esque game I had watched was Super Paper Mario. (It's a platformer with RPG elements) But since it was the only game of that series I had watched, I decided to watch the rest of the series, sans 64, since I could emulate that one (I have since discovered that emulators hate that game. I finally found one that is mostly reliable, but geez). And halfway through playing 64/watching The Thousand Year Door, Nintendo randomly announced "oh yeah! New Paper Mario in three months!" I had to scramble to finish the series before that game came out. So that was fun.
But going back to UT, my point is, I literally wouldn't have discovered so many amazing games without it. So. Thank you, UT, for all of that. And in your honor, today, the day of your anniversary, I begin to watch a new playthrough of a game I had never watched before: Yumme Nikki. (Loving it so far) Cheers for UT, and for every other wonderful RPGs.

Mother 3 is more of a loose sequel to Mother 2/Earthbound, but the games aren't super connected to each other like a proper sequel (although Mother 3 features a major character and a handful of neat references and Easter Eggs that come from Eartbound).
Mother 3 doesn't borrow many references from Mother 1, although for completion sake, I would do Mother 1/Beginnings first then finish off with Mother 3. It's a great game to end your experience with
I have Earthbound Beginnings on Wii U but I know its an older system game so next time I play a Mother game should I play Beginnings or go onto Mother 3 when I find a reliable rom source? Since I finished EarthBound on Wii U.
