Join us in celebrating art in our collection! Manuel Carbonell presented this bronze sculpture, entitled “Bicentennial Eagle,” at the White House on June 29, 1976. Milt Mitler, coordinator of Bicentennial activities, accepted it on behalf of President Ford.

Carbonell was considered the last of the Cuban Master Sculptors of his generation. He regarded this work as a symbol of freedom and a show of gratitude to his adopted country for the Bicentennial.

This particular sculpture is the first of an artist’s edition of six cast in bronze by Carbonell. The second of the series was given to Burt Reynolds. #ArchivesArt
