WeddingSutra’s Features Writer Pallavi Mehra was a guest at a destination wedding in Oman. She shares her experience at this one-of-a-kind immersive destination wedding.
Who doesn’t love destination weddings? It’s the first step into matrimony for the couple and a vacation for everyone else. This summer, I flew to Muscat, Oman, for an Indian destination wedding of my friends Jeff and Leta. The couple wanted their guests to do more than just meet and greet. They planned a range of activities which allowed their friends and loved ones to discover stunning, scenic Oman. Here are some activities I enjoyed which may inspire your own destination wedding itinerary in Oman.

Naing Win and Aye Nandar Myint’s reception and cocktail party in

The decor emulated lush forests, with hues of purple thrown into the exotic setting through lights. Candles and lasers illuminated the forest, enhancing its magical appeal. Luscious blooms, embellished arches and chandeliers contributed to the gorgeous decor. There was also a gigantic tiered cake that was later cut by the couple. The ceiling was decorated with drapes and lasers that resembled the magnificence of a starry night.

The highlight of the special night was the ring ceremony. For the event, the couple’s wedding rings were brought in by flight – via trained exotic birds!

Nidhi and Varun first met at a music festival but long after the festival ended, the romantic background score played on. A few years later, they decided to celebrate their wedding at the Jai Mahal Palace. The festivities, orchestrated by WeddingSutra Favorite – Indian Wedding Planners, were a sight to behold! Co-founder Anant Khandelwal says, “Our vision for this wedding was to create regal magnificence and we spared no effort in trying to achieve absolute perfection. Right from palatial venues and magnificent decor to captivating couple entries and other unique details, everything contributed to this royal theme. This indeed was a once in a lifetime celebration that will be cherished not only by the two families but also their gusts.”

The groom tells us their story and shares highlights from their wedding.
“Soon after the engagement, our families decided on a destination wedding in Jaipur. We wanted the venue to be very regal and Jai Mahal Palace stole our hearts! The 280-year-old, 18-acre property has three large lawns that are frequented by peacocks and various species of birds. Not only was this hotel undeniably majestic but even the staff were incredibly warm and hospitable.”

Indian Wedding Planners and it was a pleasure working with them. They did a fantastic job of bringing everything that we wanted to life using their expertise. The team was patient, cooperative, willing to understand our needs and eager to work with us as a family. We are grateful to have had them by our side through this journey.”

“We kicked off the wedding with a smashing pool party in shades of blue, yellow and white. At the entrance, we had trellises decorated with oversized paper flowers along with wooden ladders decked with fresh blooms. The canopies featured origami birds while colorful paper lanterns were suspended from the trees. The vibrant color palette we chose was perfect for this bright day!”

Rambagh Palace under the starry sky. While the decor designed for this function further enhanced the regal appeal of the venue, the stellar performances put together by our family and friends made this night absolutely unforgettable.”
“For the Sufi Night, Nidhi and I made our entry to the song ‘Azeem-O-Shaan Shehenshah’ in a horse-drawn chariot. The dress code was red and gold. The décor was filled with Moroccan-inspired elements – metal water jugs decorated with flowers as centerpieces, large Moroccan lamps at the entrance and sofas with bright rugs and cushions set the stage.”

Jai Mahal Palace to life. I arrived with my baaraat on an elephant for the varmala. This was followed by a beautiful ceremony conducted by a priest who explained the significance of each ritual. These were some of the most poignant moments from all the festivities and are sure to be etched in our memories forever.”

Our series ‘Young and Inspiring’ presents the newest talent powerhouses from the worlds of design, fashion and events, who are raising the bar and setting new trends as they conjure up dream weddings.
A young and passionate filmmaker, Anish, and his equally zealous journalist wife, Noopur, began their filmmaking and photography venture named ‘Happy Flashbacks’ in 2015. Becoming one of the most sought-after filmmaking companies in less than five years, the dynamic duo has come a long way, capturing the special moments of innumerable couples.
They have recently added another feather to their cap: an Instagram travel blog called 2happypassports to showcase their amazing talents. Anish and Noopur of Happy Flashbacks continue to be among the best in the industry, inspiring many other young innovators to turn their passion into a profession.
Here are excerpts from our interview with Noopur and Anish about their journey.
The camera-conscious aspect is common for everyone we meet. We try to make the process of filmmaking extremely fun and intimate in order to get the most natural shots and the most candid moments out of our couples. Focussing on small details and all the little and honest moments, we act as spectators and not directors. This allows us to capture real emotions. Yet, some people will be very comfortable and others not so much. But you have to weave stories and keep things natural.

Although we have been very close to every couple we have shot so far, I would say that filming Bhavna and Karambir’s wedding has been extremely close to us because theirs was a very different but beautiful story. Documenting the journey of the couple and the family never felt like we were there to simply shoot a wedding. They made us feel very comfortable, even though we got to know each other without any prior references.

From quiet coasts fringed by swaying palm trees to stark desert landscapes,
“Rajat’s proposal was very old-fashioned. Instead of popping the question to me, he went and asked my mother for my hand. He promised her that he would take care of me and love me more than anything else in the world. I thought this was a very sweet gesture since every mother needs to feel assured that the man her daughter is going to marry is the right match for her.”

“A lot of thought went into creating each look, and we were always making sure that the colors and styles of our clothes aligned with the scenes against which we posed. We planned five unique looks for the photo shoot which included me wearing a full-sleeved white gown while Rajat opted for a burgundy suit against the rugged landscapes of the Sultanate. We also wore jeans with black leather jackets that allowed us to emulate the ‘biker-couple’ look. Pictures of us on a pier with me in a maxi dress and him in a lemon yellow jacket spelled relaxed romance. We also clicked pictures by the vivid blue waters of

“This was the first time we had ever got a professional photo shoot done and capturing our love this way gave us a ton of memories to take back home. One of the most unforgettable moments was when we were traveling on a boat. At one point the waters got quite rough because of which everyone on the boat, understandably got quite scared. Rajat and I, however, managed to have fun even in that situation.”

Prachi and Sahil were in the same school as kids, but Cupid’s arrow found its mark much later! The adventurous duo picked a travel theme for their unique pre-wedding photo shoot which was done by WeddingSutra Favorite – ShutterDown. Here, Prachi shares some highlights.
“Once we fixed a shoot date, we began looking for ideas. We wanted the photographs to reflect our true personalities instead of looking like another run-of-the-mill series of romantic pictures. Thus began our quest for a theme that would define us and we settled on a backpacking theme. The two of us are very fond of traveling and going off the beaten path; so, in the images, we wanted to look like comfortable travelers who are on a mission to explore the world together.”
“To turn our theme into beautiful photographs, we hired ShutterDown, and the decision to work with their team was one of the best we have ever taken. They’re a powerhouse of talent who take the effort of knowing their clients and understanding their requirements. Working with them gave us a chance to explore something new, which was far beyond our comfort zone – we even shot pictures in which I was wearing a gown with a backpack and sneakers! It was the team’s supportive attitude that eased us into the whole process.”

The surreal beauty of Ladakh, with crystal clear waters mirroring the clear blue sky, made for a stunning setting for Kunica and Rahul pre-wedding photoshoot. The couple was keen on a unique destination with a striking scenery as the backdrop to their romantic shoot. Ladakh’s stunning vistas did not disappoint. The groom, Rahul, talks about the Bollywood-inspired photoshoot.

“We did some extensive research for about two years before we finally decided on Leh Ladakh, which she describes as paradise. Ladakh is one of the most enchanting and beautiful places we have seen. We had about 12 outfits to choose from, that had a mix of styles, from sophisticated to dramatic, casual to Bollywood. We worked on coordinated outfits, which we customized from designers in our cities.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Shooting in Ladakh was not easy; there were many challenges such as the weather and the way it affected us. The climate fluctuations, right from extremely sunny days at Nubra Valley (Hundar Dessert) to heavy rain and the cold and wind, especially at Pangong Lake, were a lot to deal with. However, we were determined and made it all work!”
