Hello motorsport people!

I have decided to blog about motorsport , a passion I have had for a long time and will probably get my own website in the future. This is a weekly publication, and with the waffle done, let’s start.

EXTREME E

Everybody’s favourite electric rally championship got under way last weekend with an exciting shakedown, and then qualifying one. The Veloce of Sarrazin crashed hard and rolled his vehicle but was overshadowed by the enormous crash involving the ABT Cupra piloted by Claudia Hurtgen. 

Coming down the hill, The torque generated by the EV motor was too much and the car spun and hit a bump, concluding in a monster crash where the car roled twice, dug into the sand and came to a rest, upside down and unrecognisable. This was not all for the ABT team, as in the crazy race they collided with the Ganassi in the same corner and both were out as the Ganassi ran the ABT out of road.

In the end, Nico Rosberg’s RXR prevailed as it dominated all races, despite a 60 second penalty caused by a faulty pit limiter that dropped them down to 3rd, behind Carlos Sainz Sr. and Lewis Hamilton’s respective teams. However, during the first heat, Kristofferson led from gate 1 and after the driver change, dominated the race and subsequently the weekend.

In the world of F1, The two Ferrari’s and Alpine’s took part in 18″ tire tests the week after the grand prix, which will be implemented in 2022 alongside the new regulations. However, Sebastian Vettel’s woeful Aston Martin debut saw him rack up 5 penalty points, 2 from ignoring yellow flags in qualifying and 3 from his collision with Esteban Ocon on sunday; He says he is not quite at home with the new car but some are already questioning his chances of seeing out the season.

Pre-season testing at the Red Bull ring started off with snow, as all 30 cars shook down and are currently in the process of evaluating their car, Prema, as expected, are the clear championship favourites, boasting Denni Hauger, Arthur Leclerc and Olli Caldwell.

MOTOGP: FÁBIO QUARTARARO VENCE NA ALEMANHA

Sachsenring sediou a 10ª etapa do Mundial de MotoGP, e teve como vencedor o campeão reinante Fábio Quartararo, com Johann Zarco e Jack Miller completando o pódio.

Pecco Bagnaia conquistou a pole no sábado na Alemanha, mas não teve chance de converte-la em vitória por conta da queda de Bagnaia na quarta volta da corrida, aliviando a pressão que Fábio tinha com a disputa contra a Ducati de Pecco, desde que conseguiu assumir a liderança logo na largada. Quartararo disparou na frente e não foi mais incomodado, conseguindo uma vantagem confortável e passando pela bandeira quadriculada com quase cinco segundos de diferença para o segundo colocado.

Tivemos uma prova lotada de abandonos: em quedas tivemos Joan Mir, Darryn Binder e Takaaki Nakagami deixando a prova. Ainda assistimos Maverick Viñales ter problemas na sua moto e quase se desequilibrar, sendo obrigado a se encaminhar aos boxes e abandonar, e algumas voltas depois Pol Espargaró fazer a mesma coisa, aparentemente também com problemas na moto.

Seguimos com uma perseguição de Miller em cima de Aleix Espargaró brigando pela terceira colocação, que com um erro de Aleix foi sacrimentada pela ultrapassagem do australiano, conseguindo o pódio e únicos pontos para Ducati nessa prova. Com dezesseis competidores terminando a corrida, tivemos apenas Stefan Bradl (substituindo Marc Marquez) não pontuando.

Completaram os dez primeiros colocados: Fábio Quartararo, Johann Zarco, Jack Miller, Aleix Espargaró, Luca Marini, Jorge Martin, Brad Binder, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Miguel Oliveira e Enea Bastianini

Fábio Quartararo abre uma vantagem no campeonato de pilotos de 34 pontos sobre o 2º colocado, Aleix Espargaró. A MotoGP volta no próximo fim de semana com a tradicional prova de Assen, na Holanda.

Bagnaia & Bastianini duel to the flag at Misano

A preview of 2023? Just 0.034 splits Bagnaia and Bastianini after a true duel to remember on the Riviera di Rimini, with 'Pecco' coming out on top to become the first Ducati rider to win four in a row. The 2022 Gran Premio Gryfyn di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini will be remembered for an epic duel between Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) and Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing MotoGP™). The two Italians went head-to-head in the closing stages and were eventually split by just 0.034s on the line as Bagnaia becomes the first Ducati rider to win four races in a row, a phenomenal accolade and one that takes him to second in the Championship, 30 points back on Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) . Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) kept the Ducati duo honest for much of the race before losing touch in the latter stages, coming home third for another Aprilia podium. From pole, Jack Miller (Ducati Lenovo Team) got away fantastically well and so did teammate Francesco Bagnaia as the Italian pounced straight up to third from P5 on the grid. Behind there was drama, however, with Johann Zarco (Prima Pramac Racing), Pol Espargaro (Repsol Honda Team) and Michele Pirro (Aruba.it Racing) crashing out of contention at Turn 1, riders ok. It soon became an even more dramatic race of attrition, however, as a couple of early frontrunners then crashed on Lap 2 – including race leader Miller. The Australian slipped out at Turn 4 and a few corners later at Turn 10, Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) was on the floor. Both riders were unhurt, and both remounted. New race leader Bastianini then had a hairy moment at Turn 14 as the hottest weather of the weekend was seemingly making life tricky for the premier class.

On Lap 3, Bagnaia led for the first time and quickly following him through on Bastianini was Viñales. Further back, the top two in the World Championship at the time – Quartararo and Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) – were locked together in P5 and P6. They were 0.8s off the leading quartet that consisted of Bagnaia, Viñales, Bastianini and Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Racing Team). After passing Aleix Espargaro, Quartararo set the fastest lap of the race on Lap 7 of 27 and immediately started hunting down the leaders, however. The Frenchman gapped the Aprilia by 0.7s but it was then the Noale factory rider who set the fastest lap of the race on Lap 9, with the top six – down to the number 41 – split by 2.2s. However, a poor lap from Espargaro on Lap 12 saw the Spaniard slip to three seconds off the lead and 1.6s away from Quartararo. As we clocked through half-race distance, the top four remained locked together. Bagnaia led from Viñales, Bastianini and Marini, with Quartararo 0.7s away from the intense victory fight. Then, on Lap 16 of 27, Bastianini was wide at Turn 10 to allow Marini an easy pass up the inside. The Beast was straight back past though on the run into the rapid Turn 11 right-hander though, and in good time as Bagnaia and Viñales started to turn up the wick. Meanwhile, Quartararo was losing ground in P5 and Espargaro was now two seconds in arrears of the Yamaha rider. After that mistake, Bastianini bounced back with a 1:31.895 to reel in Bagnaia and Viñales. Was that famous late race pace starting to surface? With eight to go, after a couple of scruffy corners from Viñales, Bastianini carved his way up to P2 at Turn 1. The gap to Pecco was 0.6s. Then it was 0.4s. Then it was 0.2s. By six laps to go, Bagnaia had been caught by Bastianini but the latter had received a track limits warning, adding to one each for Viñales and Quartararo. Viñales, on his part, was also starting to lose touch and it looked like it was Ducati vs Ducati, Italy vs Italy, 2023 factory Ducati rider vs 2023 factory Ducati rider for the win.

With four to go, the tension was mounting. With three to go it was still advantage Bagnaia, but Bastianini was marginally faster. Two to go, it was as you were. Bastianini swarming, Bagnaia holding strong. And it all came down to the last lap. Searching for a passing manoeuvre, Bastianini was late on the brakes at Turn 4 and he was out of shape, narrowly avoiding contact and disaster between the two. Was that race over for the Beast? Not yet. He regrouped quickly and by the time Turn 10 came around, the gap was back to nothing. No pass came into Turn 14 and neither into the final corner as the crowd watched on tenterhooks, but Bastianini hooked his GP21 up on the exit and threatened to snatch victory at the chequered flag. As close as is almost visible, Bagnaia just held on to win by 0.034s – a stunningly close finish between two phenomenal riders. Viñales eventually finished 4.2s away from victory after looking incredibly strong for much of the race, with Marini holding into P4 to equal his best MotoGP™ result – that’s back-to-back P4s for the Italian. Quartararo was unable to challenge for the podium places as a P8 in qualifying proved costly, with fifth the best he could do in Misano. El Diablo’s gap is cut to 30 points in the overall standings, however it’s now Pecco acting as his closest challenger after Aleix Espargaro finished P6 in Misano – 4.4s away from Quartararo. Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) was a lonely finisher in P7 as Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) clawed his way up to P8, the South African leading Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) and Alex Marquez (LCR Honda Castrol) home in the top 10. Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) took P11 after a Long Lap for track limits, ahead of the retiring home hero, Andrea Dovizioso (WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP™ Team). The Italian bows out of MotoGP™ with a P12 finish after a wonderful career, as everyone comes together to say #GrazieDovi – he will be sorely missed in the paddock. Raul Fernandez (Tech3 KTM Factory Racing), Stefan Bradl (Repsol Honda Team) and Takaaki Nakagami (LCR Honda Idemitsu) rounded out the points, and Kazuki Watanabe (Team Suzuki Ecstar) qualified, finished and crossed the line third in order but a lap down, doing a solid job of getting out of the way of the leaders. A post-race time penalty for track limits - five offences accrued before he was lapped - saw him join Oliveria and Remy Gardner (Tech3 KTM Factory Racing) falling foul of the green. And so Misano paints another glorious finish. Four wins in a row; the first Ducati rider to ever do that in MotoGP™. Bagnaia has closed the gap to 30 points to Quartararo with six races to go, as the top three in the Championship are covered by 32 points heading to Aragon – a track Pecco won at last season. Do NOT miss the next showdown at MotorLand in two weeks... Ducati even have a first match point in the fight for the Constructors' crown.

Francesco Bagnaia se llevó la última victoria de la temporada en Moto GP al ganar el Gran Premio de la Comunidad Valenciana en el circuito "Ricardo Tormo" de Cheste (Valencia). Junto a él, completaron el último podio de la temporada con un triplete para Ducati gracias a la segunda posición de Jorge Martín, el 'roockie' del año, y la tercera de Jack Miller. Por su parte, Valentino Rossi finalizó décimo en el último Gran Premio de su carrera deportiva.

Valentino Rossi finalizó su carrera deportiva en la décima posición y se encontró con el gesto de casi todos sus rivales, que le esperaron en la curva dos para escoltarlo hasta la tribuna de sus seguidores y a partir de ahí abrazar uno por uno a todos ellos antes de regresar hasta a la calle de talleres.

Jorge Martín, autor del mejor tiempo de entrenamientos, tampoco falló en la salida, llevándose tras su estela al australiano Jack Miller (Ducati Desmosedici GP21) y al español Joan Mir y su Suzuki GSX RR, que fue el más rápido en los entrenamientos libres de la matinal dominical, con Francesco "Pecco" Bagnaia (Ducati Desmosedici GP21) cuarto y Valentino Rossi en la novena posición.

Mir aguantó una sola vuelta tras Miller, al que superó en la segunda vuelta para intentar cazar rápidamente a un Jorge Martín -aquejado durante la noche anterior de un proceso de gastroenteritis que apenas le dejó dormir un par de horas- que sabía no le podía dejar tomar distancia, y por detrás de Bagnaia y Miller llegaba el otro piloto de Suzuki, Alex Rins, también con ganas de conseguir destacar en la última carrera de la temporada, aunque la velocidad de las Ducati no se lo iba a poner nada fácil.

Rins encadenó un par de adelantamientos, primero a Miller y después a su propio compañero de equipo, Joan Mir, para intentar alcanzar al dúo que en el cuarto giro formaron en la punta de carrera Martín y Bagnaia, en tanto que Valentino Rossi perdía un lugar en favor del francés Johann Zarco (Ducati Desmosedici GP21) y el campeón del mundo en título, el francés Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha YZR M 1), en la sexta posición, por delante del español Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia RS-GP) y que instantes después adelantó a Jack Miller.

En la punta de la carrera se formó un cuarteto con Jorge Martín, Pecco Bagnaia, Alex Rins y Joan Mir al que no sin trabajo se fue acercando el campeón del mundo en título, Fabio Quartararo, que "tiró" del resto de integrantes del grupo, Jack Miller, Aleix Espargaró, el surafricano Brad Binder (KTM RC 16), Johann Zarco y Valentino Rossi.

El fuerte ritmo de los punteros de carrera hizo que Alex Rins cometiese un error en el undécimo giro, al entrar demasiado colado en la curva seis y perder por completo la adherencia en el tren delantero de su moto, lo que le dejó inédito en la Comunidad Valenciana y con ello hizo ganar una posición a todos sus perseguidores, incluido Valentino Rossi, ya noveno, aunque le duró poco el puesto al verse superado por su compatriota Enea Bastianini (Ducati Desmosedici GP20).

Tras un bajón inicial de Jack Miller, el australiano comenzó a recuperar terreno para engancharse al grupo de cabeza en la decimocuarta vuelta, mientras Fabio Quartararo arrojaba la toalla y se conformaba con la quinta posición en la que se encontraba por entonces.

Una vuelta más tarde y en la entrada a la recta de meta, Bagnaia superó nuevamente a Jorge Martín para liderar la carrera e intentar imprimir un ritmo -de vuelta rápida en el siguiente giro (1:31.042)- que le permitiese sumar su cuarta victoria de la temporada.

Joan Mir intentó aguantar el tirón de los pilotos de Ducati, pero en la decimonovena vuelta se vio superado por Jack Miller camino de un podio ciento por ciento para los representantes de Borgo Panigale, con él en la cuarta plaza, delante de los franceses Fabio Quartararo y Johann Zarco.

Aleix Espargaró finalizó en la novena posición, con Alex Márquez (Honda RC 213 V), decimotercero, delante de Iker Lecuona (KTM RC 16) y Maverick Viñales (Aprilia RS-GP).

MOTOGP: FÁBIO QUARTARARO VENCE NA CATALUNHA

Em uma corrida com incidente na primeira volta e cena confusa protagonizada por A. Espargaro, Quartararo aumenta sua vantagem no mundial vencendo pela segunda vez em 2022, conseguindo assumir a ponta na primeira volta da prova. Completaram o pódio os dois pilotos da Pramac Racing, Jorge Martín e Johann Zarco.

Começamos a corrida com confusão: Takaaki Nakagami escorrega e bate com o capacete na roda traseira de Pecco Bagnaia, batendo também em Alex Rins em seguida, os três abandonando ainda na primeira volta. O trio foi encaminhado ao centro médico e mais tarde ao hospital, para mais exames. Segundo um comunicado da MotoGP, Rins teve uma fratura no pulso esquerdo, enquanto Nakagami não parece ter sofrido nenhuma lesão, mas foi aconselhado a permanecer por mais 24 horas em observação por conta do forte contato com Bagnaia. Bastianini também foi ao chão, seguido por outra queda na volta seguinte, de Di Giannantonio, terminando a corrida para a equipe Gresini.

Quartararo dominou a prova e abriu muita vantagem. Aleix Espargaro estava com um ritmo bom em segundo lugar até que protagonizou uma cena curiosa na penúltima volta, onde o piloto diminuiu a velocidade e começou a acenar ao público, pensando que a corrida havia terminado. Mais tarde ele explicou o erro: sua placa de avisos era a primeira, muito em cima da curva, então ele não conseguia ver quantas voltas restantes ainda tinham. Ao tentar se localizar pelo painel do circuito, se confundiu com a marcação. O erro custou ao espanhol 3 posições, fazendo-o terminar o GP em 5º.

Com o pódio de Fábio Quartararo, Jorge Martín e Johann Zarco, completam os dez primeiros: Joan Mir, Aleix Espargaró, Luca Marini, Maverick Viñales, Brad Binder, Miguel Oliveira e Álex Márquez.

No Campeonato de Pilotos Quartararo segue na liderança com 147 pontos, com Aleix Espargaro em segundo com 125 pontos e Enea Bastianini fechando o top 3 com 94 pontos. Já no Campeonato de Equipes, Aprilia lidera com 171 pontos, seguida por Yamaha com 169 e Ducati com 146.

A MotoGP tira uma semana de folga e retoma as atividades entre 17 e 19 de junho com mais uma edição do GP da Alemanha, no Sachsenring, que marca a metade da temporada 2022.
